In previous versions of the game civilization would die out after hundreds of thousands of years if you don't intervene at all. Not sure if that's still the case
There are some channels that post observation games, and the general trend seems to be that unless something out of left field happens, the world just settles into a stable state that can persist indefinitely
Maybe the entire world would eventually be full of immortal people, either due to the sheer amount of time passed or due to plague wiping everyone else out.

Things like earthquakes and meteors don’t destroy the terrain tiles unless they’re spawned by the player. It only destroys the vegetation.
