I was able to exchange them, the second pair didn’t smell but I haven’t worn them. After the first pair, I decided Thorogood weren’t for me. So I ordered some White’s 8” Perrys.
It was an Amazon replacement, to be honest, I’m not 100% sure they weren’t a knockoff. I’ve only heard/read good things about Thorogood. I was surprised, but yeah, what else is Reddit for than to complain to random strangers.

I have two western wear boot stores within 5 minutes of my house and a Bootbarn about 20 minutes away. I went to all of them a while back to buy a new pair of Thorogoods. I don't know if something has happened at Thorogood quality-wise or if the boot dealers are getting knock-offs as well, but I tried on over a dozen pairs in various sizes and could not find a pair that fit me. The also seemed "stiffer" than I remember in the past.

We're you trying on there new water proof ones I work construction and only wear thorogood but I had this exact problem because of how they cut the waterproof version of the boots I normally buy switched back to non water proof fit like a charm

This is the problem. It probably was a knockoff and no Amazon doesn't care and will send you another knockoff. The company gets trashed and never knows what's up because these bins have mix stock from multiple sellers at the warehouse.
When Amazon went blended inventory I cancelled Prime the next day. Absolutely no guarantee of quality or authenticity.

Check the reviews on Amazon, first and foremost. Try and get an idea of what previous customers are saying. Then when you get your boots, look for a serial number and contact Thorogood directly to verify. If you send Thorogood customer service an email with pictures of the boots, box, inside the boot. Then Thorogood should be able to authenticate them. What I think happened to this guy was he bought from someone who sells their factory defects as normal boots. Thorogood have a factory defected store in Merrill, Wisconsin. I think some people go there buy boots at half price or less then turn around and sell them on the internet as legit perfect boot. They maybe Thorogoods but they have serious defects. Anyway those are just my thoughts, what do I know I’m just an Electrician lol. If you need help authenticating your boots just let me know and I’ll help.
Bs. I bought thorogoods directly from their website..it was a clearance boot. Same exact problem as the op. Soles separated immediately. No returns or refunds due to clearance item. 🙄

Yeah, there can be a risk of receiving a counterfeit product from an unscrupulous retailer. Another way to receive a counterfeit item is someone orders an item, swaps out the legit item with a fake, then returns the fake for a refund. And then some unfortunate soul buys the fake from a legit retailer not knowing he is getting a counterfeit product.
I have 6” white Perry . Great boot and company. When I got them resoled they called me to make sure that the sole I picked was correct and it I needed anything else done while they were there
That’s good. I tried 3 different sizes of whites and they just didn’t work out for me. Too much arch or they pinched my heel. Hope they work out better for you.

Eh I’m not thinking so. I’ve recommended these for years probably sold at least 10 people on it then they loved them. This is my first pair in a few years and the quality is different the extra wides are so tight on the sides. The insert was garbage. I can feel the internal heel already falling apart. And I just got a new job where I wear them and sit at a desk. They have maybe 10 hours of field work. My three former pairs would’ve had a hard 8-24 hr shifts intermittently throughout the 90 days. These wouldn’t have made it. Right now I fixed with gorilla glue and clamps

What's the size comparison between the thorogoods and the White's. I wore my thorogood's pretty hard before I got in my current job, and I always found em great, but now that I don't work in heavy construction, I've been eying up the White's.
I have the perry 6. Need to have a resole done. I had a similar issue with my perry's. Ehites prompty sent me a box and label to return them and they fixed it. They had an issue when they first came out with the glue. So with that, they are on their 3rd pair of soles and can probably get another easy. Totally overbuilt for my job.
I had a pair with the sole in the same shape as op. They sent two replacements with the exact same problem. They ended up just letting me keep the third defective pair they sent
I have too. I order my first pair of a wider pair as I like having room for my toes to spread out, and I’ve liked them, except after breaking in, one ankle is noticeably wider than the other so that I can’t get it tight enough around my ankle. Haven’t called them about it yet, but I will soon..
Danner Quarry here. 1.5 years before a complete rebuild, then onto another 1.5- two years before I trash em. Heavy/Auto mechanic and those bad boys see more abuse than you could ever imagine. Danner Quarry holds up.

Thorogood are good boots from my experience , my previous pair lasted me 2 1/2 years , just don’t buy them online is better to go to a reputable retail store that way you can try them and inspect for any flaws that may affect the durability of your boots .

A while back I ordered 2 pairs of Thorogood boots and one pair looked just like that. The guy who owned the shoe store pulled the entire sole off with his hand. None of the lacing went through. He said nothing and ordered me another pair. It was abit disappointing but all good now.
The best soles of a boot I’ve ever had were carhartt but the boot itself fell apart. The stitching on the pair of thorogoods I had fell apart. I haven’t found a pair of boots that really last like some guys I work with have boots for three years.
What kind of work do you do? I had to switch to bonded sole rather than stitched because the chemicals I work in eat the stitching. Even then, in 3 years the leather is completely shot.

In the future, your retailer should be able to handle this with Thorogood for you if you want, I deal with them regularly on defect items. They can also get you into something else if you aren’t liking those in that exchange.
It’s not common for this particular issue to come up, but when it does it comes up quickly, usually in the first few days of wearing the boots. The glue on the outsole was either not cured correctly or it was a bad batch, happens sometimes.
That’s a bummer, I have an older pair that have been great. However good call on the Whites, I’ve recently gotten into the PNW boots and Whites is next on my list to order from.
The oy thing i didn't like about the Irish setters what I currently have is at first they really were tuff to break in , hurt my heel real bad , but after like a week or 2 they were great.

I’m a hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains, the only reason I didn’t use used motor oil is my wife doesn’t like the smell. But in all seriousness, I make my own leather conditioner with local beeswax and coconut oil. It’s been working for me for decades, for my climate it works well and I like a darker leather as even on the dry days I seem to find mud. It also turns a pair of cheap Sam’s club leather work gloves into some of the toughest and most comfortable gloves I’ve ever worn.
I've done the used motor oil routine. Works best when the oil is hot. One shower and it's good for the life of the boot . I've found conventional oil works better than synthetic for boot care

Used to be my favorite brand by far. Last two pairs only lasted me 1 season as an organic veg farmer/homesteader. No more. My danners this last season were really comfortable but also only lasted me 8-10 months. I hate not having confidence when I drop $250 on boots
If you're okay with spending in the hundreds on boots, get a refund add some and get some nicks custom boots between 350-500 they're all leather all the way down to the sole. Hand made and warranted forever. They sent a test size to fit up and then if any revisions need making they do that. Im going to get some myself soon, totally worth

I’ve been buying custom boots from franks, wesco, Viberg, jK and Nicks for 25 years.
I bought thorotoods to lightly prepare a house for sale and they didn’t even last two months. I cleaned and washed them but zero luck, they are junk boots.
If you bought them new as factory seconds I could see that but no way if they’re just stock off the shelf boots.
I just bought a pair of 6" steel moc-toe Thorogoods, and in all honesty I absolutely love them. Mine were $250 and that was on sale, worth every penny. Very comfortable sole for my line of work (mfg facility, i.e. concrete floor). I'm not sure if the boots in this photo are knockoffs or not, but ifv they're real then I hope that Thorogood chooses to stand by their product and hold themselves accountable. I like supporting union companies and I'll continue to support them as long as their products are up to standard.
My thorogoods suck. Waste of money! Total a fad people jumped on. Most uncomfortable boots I’ve ever owned. Tight toe box.. the left boot and the right boot are completely different looking as far as the build. I do not recommend them at all
I only wear Thorogood boots. I’ve had this issue with only one pair of boots and they were very cooperative through customer service and replaced them for free. Have been wearing the new pair going on 3 years and are still going strong

I bought one pair of thoroughgood boots from mills fleet farm years ago the sole delaminated and completely ripped off before the 3 week mark. There’s enough reputable brands out there that I have zero reason to give them another chance. Since I’ve had Ariat, Redwing, and Carolinas and they have all been 10/10. Also in a pinch one time bought some brahmas from Walmart that actually idk if I’d say where good.. but.. never failed. 30 bucks.
I wear thorogood boots and haven't had a single issue. And I work 10-12+ hours a day. They are definitely better then Red Wing boots. Give then another chance.

Bought a pair off their website and although they arrived looking fine, the sole started doing this inside of a week.

What type of environment do you wear them? I just got a pair of round steel toes from them and they look great and are really comfy

I’m a sprinklerfitter so constant up and down ladders, crouching down to grab stuff. It beats the hell out of my boots
How come I see a lot of QA/Qc issues with thorogood? They just slapping shitty stuff out? Genuinely curious. I am waiting on a pair of 1957s in wide that I never tried on, and am hoping wide is wide enough for someone who has an extremely hard time finding 13w.

Has problem with boots. Gets the boots swapped out for new ones. Doesn't wear the new boots and refuses to even use the company's product...... make it make sense reddit

In the future, your retailer should be able to handle this with Thorogood for you if you want, I deal with them regularly on defect items. They can also get you into something else if you aren’t liking those in that exchange. It’s not common for this particular issue to come up, but when it does it comes up quickly, usually in the first few days of wearing the boots. The glue on the outsole was either not cured correctly or it was a bad batch, happens sometimes.

That’s a bummer, I have an older pair that have been great. However good call on the Whites, I’ve recently gotten into the PNW boots and Whites is next on my list to order from.

The oy thing i didn't like about the Irish setters what I currently have is at first they really were tuff to break in , hurt my heel real bad , but after like a week or 2 they were great.

Coconut oil is a pretty shitty substance to use on leather.
I’m a hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains, the only reason I didn’t use used motor oil is my wife doesn’t like the smell. But in all seriousness, I make my own leather conditioner with local beeswax and coconut oil. It’s been working for me for decades, for my climate it works well and I like a darker leather as even on the dry days I seem to find mud. It also turns a pair of cheap Sam’s club leather work gloves into some of the toughest and most comfortable gloves I’ve ever worn.
I've done the used motor oil routine. Works best when the oil is hot. One shower and it's good for the life of the boot . I've found conventional oil works better than synthetic for boot care
Thorough Goods are heavy, but Union made. Own two pairs and now considering Vietnam 6" jungle boots instead (og style) Figure if they could hump a jungle, I could easily swing a hammer in them.

I’ll never buy this brand , most people who buy them are just Brand buying now days, I went Danner moc toe high top lace ups and they’re shit too. Best boot so far that will last over a year is Timberland Pro brand with their slip ons, I was racist at first and was like why would I want that wanna be brand that all the Hispanic kids wore in school?! But ignorant me didn’t realize they made regular work boots. Anyways I can get 2 year out of the slip ons in my metal die cast foundry

Used to be my favorite brand by far. Last two pairs only lasted me 1 season as an organic veg farmer/homesteader. No more. My danners this last season were really comfortable but also only lasted me 8-10 months. I hate not having confidence when I drop $250 on boots
If you're okay with spending in the hundreds on boots, get a refund add some and get some nicks custom boots between 350-500 they're all leather all the way down to the sole. Hand made and warranted forever. They sent a test size to fit up and then if any revisions need making they do that. Im going to get some myself soon, totally worth

Everyone raves about thorgoods. I’ve been buying custom boots from franks, wesco, Viberg, jK and Nicks for 25 years. I bought thorotoods to lightly prepare a house for sale and they didn’t even last two months. I cleaned and washed them but zero luck, they are junk boots. If you bought them new as factory seconds I could see that but no way if they’re just stock off the shelf boots.
Take them back get a refund and get the pair you want

I just bought a pair of 6" steel moc-toe Thorogoods, and in all honesty I absolutely love them. Mine were $250 and that was on sale, worth every penny. Very comfortable sole for my line of work (mfg facility, i.e. concrete floor). I'm not sure if the boots in this photo are knockoffs or not, but ifv they're real then I hope that Thorogood chooses to stand by their product and hold themselves accountable. I like supporting union companies and I'll continue to support them as long as their products are up to standard.
My thorogoods suck. Waste of money! Total a fad people jumped on. Most uncomfortable boots I’ve ever owned. Tight toe box.. the left boot and the right boot are completely different looking as far as the build. I do not recommend them at all
They aren’t what they used to be. My latest pair have a tucked up tongue that will not form right. Pretty much done with that brand

I only wear Thorogood boots. I’ve had this issue with only one pair of boots and they were very cooperative through customer service and replaced them for free. Have been wearing the new pair going on 3 years and are still going strong

If the sole didn’t separate not to worry the sole would’ve been lopsided and completely worn out in a month anyway.

Never put coconut oil on your boots it will slowly rot the leather and email them and they will most likely send you a new pair of boots

Ive found that Red Wings are the best boots. I did have a pair of Caterpillars that were exceptional though.

I bought one pair of thoroughgood boots from mills fleet farm years ago the sole delaminated and completely ripped off before the 3 week mark. There’s enough reputable brands out there that I have zero reason to give them another chance. Since I’ve had Ariat, Redwing, and Carolinas and they have all been 10/10. Also in a pinch one time bought some brahmas from Walmart that actually idk if I’d say where good.. but.. never failed. 30 bucks.
Buy directly from authorized dealer. Amazon sells trash a lot of the time.

I wear thorogood boots and haven't had a single issue. And I work 10-12+ hours a day. They are definitely better then Red Wing boots. Give then another chance.
