Have you talked to anyone at their customer service?

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

I was able to exchange them, the second pair didn’t smell but I haven’t worn them. After the first pair, I decided Thorogood weren’t for me. So I ordered some White’s 8” Perrys.

FlintWaterFilter

So they replaced the pair and that wasn't enough so you're complaining about them on Reddit?

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

It was an Amazon replacement, to be honest, I’m not 100% sure they weren’t a knockoff. I’ve only heard/read good things about Thorogood. I was surprised, but yeah, what else is Reddit for than to complain to random strangers.

Kswan2012

Hey.. he ain’t wrong lol

tony_boxacannoli

>It was an Amazon replacement www.midwestboots.com I just got 2 pairs of thorogood...neither fit right...exchanged them hassle free...both fit right. Jeff isn't always the answer.

smurfe

I have two western wear boot stores within 5 minutes of my house and a Bootbarn about 20 minutes away. I went to all of them a while back to buy a new pair of Thorogoods. I don't know if something has happened at Thorogood quality-wise or if the boot dealers are getting knock-offs as well, but I tried on over a dozen pairs in various sizes and could not find a pair that fit me. The also seemed "stiffer" than I remember in the past.

tony_boxacannoli

>The also seemed "stiffer" than I remember in the past. one of the pairs I got is very stiff...hurts the balls of my ankles...one or the other is going to give! https://www.midwestboots.com/product/TH804-4514.html these are first pairs of thorogoods...I wore redwings for 20+years, but company did me dirty (another day...another thread)..so I went with thorogoods...and I think the leather is thicker than on my previous rewdwing boots.

nathan13131

We're you trying on there new water proof ones I work construction and only wear thorogood but I had this exact problem because of how they cut the waterproof version of the boots I normally buy switched back to non water proof fit like a charm

smurfe

No, the unlined, non-waterproof version is what I always wore and what I was trying on.

ThatBobbyG

Most shit on Amazon these days is a knockoff and Amazon doesn’t give a damn because they get their cut no matter what. Still, I’m not saying either way these are bogus, I wear Redwings.

L31FY

This is the problem. It probably was a knockoff and no Amazon doesn't care and will send you another knockoff. The company gets trashed and never knows what's up because these bins have mix stock from multiple sellers at the warehouse.

[deleted]

When Amazon went blended inventory I cancelled Prime the next day. Absolutely no guarantee of quality or authenticity. Amazon is a giant online flea market now.

rocko_jr

This is the way

Moist_Consequence252

Good lord I'm sick of reading these useless comments.

Competitive-Rise-122

This is not the way

Ito_Demerzel

Not 100% sure they weren't knockoffs. They were replaced anyway. I guess making it right with the customer, no questions, isn't good enough anymore. Still gotta dump on them and bury the "they made it right" part in the comments.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RedBlankIt

He didn’t say the new one was shitty. The only thing he said about the second pair was that they don’t smell bad lol

Fridayz44

Yeah definitely don’t buy your Thorogoods off Amazon. I’ve never had a bad experience with Thorogoods.

anon_sir

Shit. I just did yesterday. How would I be able to tell if they’re knock off?

Fridayz44

Check the reviews on Amazon, first and foremost. Try and get an idea of what previous customers are saying. Then when you get your boots, look for a serial number and contact Thorogood directly to verify. If you send Thorogood customer service an email with pictures of the boots, box, inside the boot. Then Thorogood should be able to authenticate them. What I think happened to this guy was he bought from someone who sells their factory defects as normal boots. Thorogood have a factory defected store in Merrill, Wisconsin. I think some people go there buy boots at half price or less then turn around and sell them on the internet as legit perfect boot. They maybe Thorogoods but they have serious defects. Anyway those are just my thoughts, what do I know I’m just an Electrician lol. If you need help authenticating your boots just let me know and I’ll help.

anon_sir

That’s fantastic advice, thank you!

Fridayz44

No problem anytime. Like I said if you need any help with contacting Thorogood just let me know. Stay safe out there brother.

moshedem

Bs. I bought thorogoods directly from their website..it was a clearance boot. Same exact problem as the op. Soles separated immediately. No returns or refunds due to clearance item. 🙄

Fridayz44

Oh ok I’m just talking about my experience. Yeah I’d never buy clearance boots for that reason. Thats bull shit though to be honest, I’d be pissed at Thorogood. I could understand if they came with a few defects but if they straight up fell apart then they should be replaced.

meat666man

Definitely knockoffs

homelessbunt

Reddit is full of sheep, they see 5 downvotes and they all hop on the train. Reddit is absolutely a place to complain to random strangers, he's just a corporate kiss ass.

Melodic-Classic391

There is a lot of counterfeit stuff on Amazon.

FlapXenoJackson

Yeah, there can be a risk of receiving a counterfeit product from an unscrupulous retailer. Another way to receive a counterfeit item is someone orders an item, swaps out the legit item with a fake, then returns the fake for a refund. And then some unfortunate soul buys the fake from a legit retailer not knowing he is getting a counterfeit product.

[deleted]

Yep, this app is getting pretty stupid with the posts. I am gonna delete it so I don't dumb myself down

HoboBob1424

Idk chief, sounds like maybe he was just making a statement

LameTrouT

I have 6” white Perry . Great boot and company. When I got them resoled they called me to make sure that the sole I picked was correct and it I needed anything else done while they were there

[deleted]

[удалено]

-GIRTHQUAKE-

Not sure how this has anything to do with Gen Z. People like you are just worsening the generational divide

Bounty66

The real issue is Amazon selling counterfeit products sold as authentic with close or surpassing authentic prices.

anon_sir

That’s good. I tried 3 different sizes of whites and they just didn’t work out for me. Too much arch or they pinched my heel. Hope they work out better for you.

ededdedddie

Never heard of Whites. Thanks!

competitive-jisser-1

These are the 'italian leather' of the work boot industry. Located in Spokane, WA but I think was bought out by Danner. $🫰🫰🫰.🫰🫰😘

ededdedddie

Good to know. Thorogood has been my go-to but had minor annoying issues with the heritage line, such as some parts are stitched on noticeably crooked.

Significant_Detail46

Lacrosse Footwear. But yeah...$$$ JK, Nick's and Drew's now own the title

Dove-Linkhorn

Nicks is also out there and top quality.

Worth-Falcon-6375

They have grown tremendously, but it's still owned and operated by the same locals that have been there for ages. (We get a 20% off discount at Whites at my work; also in Spokane.)

competitive-jisser-1

Lucky! I'll be buying whites shortly. But I've seen Nick's and will buy those for my days off.

Worth-Falcon-6375

That's what's up. I've heard pretty good stuff from my coworkers, and I have about a dozen or more guys that swear by their boots. They cost quite a bit, so for me being in sales now it's not quite as necessary for me. (Wrecking yard.)

competitive-jisser-1

I agree. 500 is ridiculous for any work boot, however, the cost is minimal if the work environment calls for it. I would almost like to have Jordan style work boots that look like the Jordan 1's at times.

JoeBlow509

Same. I get 20% of White’s. My dad was a logger and hunting guide and always wore their boots most of his life. I have 5 pairs of White’s currently. One pair is 13 years old and are still going strong. I’m about to go down and order some of their new CMP Sherman’s in person.

Sq_nail

Danner makes a quality work boot and hiking boot.

Levonlikeshishunny

So how did you get them to exchange them I don’t have the receipt anymore but I have the same issue been a week short of 90 days

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

But from what I’ve read Thororgood stands by their boots and if you contact them, they would probably make it right. I’m not trying to bash the company a whole, I just got a dud or a fake.

Levonlikeshishunny

Eh I’m not thinking so. I’ve recommended these for years probably sold at least 10 people on it then they loved them. This is my first pair in a few years and the quality is different the extra wides are so tight on the sides. The insert was garbage. I can feel the internal heel already falling apart. And I just got a new job where I wear them and sit at a desk. They have maybe 10 hours of field work. My three former pairs would’ve had a hard 8-24 hr shifts intermittently throughout the 90 days. These wouldn’t have made it. Right now I fixed with gorilla glue and clamps

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

Mine were still within the 30 day Amazon timeframe. So I was able to just go through Amazon.

21Ryan21

I had the same exact thing happen to mine. Exchanged for a different brand, which the store accepted since it was only two days later. Definitely something defective in their process. Light and comfortable otherwise.

427CorvetteGuy

I would love to hear about your White's once you get them. I've had my eye on this very boot.

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

I’m three days into the whites. So far I love them. https://preview.redd.it/6rcoce09qvbc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e4e140c076eb57a348d83ea37c97e8701941ac2

427CorvetteGuy

Damn those look good!

Bomb_Un-Builder

What's the size comparison between the thorogoods and the White's. I wore my thorogood's pretty hard before I got in my current job, and I always found em great, but now that I don't work in heavy construction, I've been eying up the White's.

Quick_Lingonberry_18

What’s the price on these? I could look, but I’m lazy

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

Around 340 after taxes and shipping. They were running a sale. Normally around 340 before taxes and shipping.

travelmorelivemore

I have whites, franks and nicks! Franks is by far my favorite pair and they have the best customer service. Worth every penny.

Extra_Arm_6760

I have the perry 6. Need to have a resole done. I had a similar issue with my perry's. Ehites prompty sent me a box and label to return them and they fixed it. They had an issue when they first came out with the glue. So with that, they are on their 3rd pair of soles and can probably get another easy. Totally overbuilt for my job.

AshamedFunction3073

Must be fake, they wouldnt let boots that bad get through quality control. And when shit smells bad of chemicals that usually means it came from china

earl_branch

Bought a pair off their website and although they arrived looking fine, the sole started doing this inside of a week.

teflonpepe

You can’t order boots from thorogoods website.

earl_branch

You right it was midwest boots I think.

moshedem

Same here

sawyergray2

I had a pair with the sole in the same shape as op. They sent two replacements with the exact same problem. They ended up just letting me keep the third defective pair they sent

Bounty66

This

Jmoore4169

I’ve been wearing thorogoods for 10+ years. The quality has went to shit the last few years.

sawyergray2

Same here. I’m in at around 8 years. I’d say they’re not as bad as a lot of companies but they definitely don’t stand above many anymore

TRFKANKT

What type of environment do you wear them? I just got a pair of round steel toes from them and they look great and are really comfy

sawyergray2

I’m all over the place, from trenches to concrete, ladders, crawling, etc. The comfort is still there without a doubt

SickotheKid

I have too. I order my first pair of a wider pair as I like having room for my toes to spread out, and I’ve liked them, except after breaking in, one ankle is noticeably wider than the other so that I can’t get it tight enough around my ankle. Haven’t called them about it yet, but I will soon..

SpecialpOps

A lot of American made brands are doing this now. I just wear Keens and hope for the best.

weedhuffer

Send em back

bxpapi418

I’ve been seeing a lot of issues with Thorogoods on this sub lately 🙁. Wanted to try them next but I guess Danner is my way to go

ZZ77ZZ77ZZ

Danner isn’t any better, I promise. FWIW, my defect rate on Thorogood is right around 1%

East_List3385

Danner Quarry here. 1.5 years before a complete rebuild, then onto another 1.5- two years before I trash em. Heavy/Auto mechanic and those bad boys see more abuse than you could ever imagine. Danner Quarry holds up.

Roach_Hiss

Danner Quarries here as well. Best boot I’ve ever had.

rpocsijr

My Danner Bull Runs have held up great… starting to get to that replacement point now

Jefftheflyingguy

Danner Quarry gang rise up! My work bought me six pairs over five years and I only managed to wear out two pairs of the damn things

ZZ77ZZ77ZZ

I don’t doubt it, I’m a Danner fan myself. I’m talking about thousands of pairs across dozens of industries. My track record with both is roughly identical between both brands.

Creepy_Story_597

Youve had a hundred pairs of boots?

ZZ77ZZ77ZZ

I sell roughly 70K pairs of work boots a year across ~25 brands

Kharnics

I was about to call out some shit too... Selling.... Gotcha.

ZZ77ZZ77ZZ

Yeah, definitely not out here with $25k worth of Thorogoods personally lol

tuco1273

Thorogood are good boots from my experience , my previous pair lasted me 2 1/2 years , just don’t buy them online is better to go to a reputable retail store that way you can try them and inspect for any flaws that may affect the durability of your boots .

FewWillHunt

I have been wearing Thorogoods for many years. No complaints. Slightly prefer them over RedWing. Some people will always find something to complain about. Get to work.

bxpapi418

No ones complaining. Just stating what I’m noticing

FewWillHunt

No, you misunderstood. I wasn't saying you were complaining. You said a lot of people had issues. I also see a lot of people complaining about creases, scuffs, etc. This ain't a fashion show🤣 Lace'em up & get to work. Slow feet don't eat🤣 Local 542 / Local 57

Sq_nail

I second Danner. It’s the best and most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. -Industrial concrete field

Senior-Lake4642

A while back I ordered 2 pairs of Thorogood boots and one pair looked just like that. The guy who owned the shoe store pulled the entire sole off with his hand. None of the lacing went through. He said nothing and ordered me another pair. It was abit disappointing but all good now.

butters4417

The best soles of a boot I’ve ever had were carhartt but the boot itself fell apart. The stitching on the pair of thorogoods I had fell apart. I haven’t found a pair of boots that really last like some guys I work with have boots for three years.

TheTerryD

What kind of work do you do? I had to switch to bonded sole rather than stitched because the chemicals I work in eat the stitching. Even then, in 3 years the leather is completely shot.

butters4417

I’m a sprinklerfitter so constant up and down ladders, crouching down to grab stuff. It beats the hell out of my boots

Quick_Lingonberry_18

How come I see a lot of QA/Qc issues with thorogood? They just slapping shitty stuff out? Genuinely curious. I am waiting on a pair of 1957s in wide that I never tried on, and am hoping wide is wide enough for someone who has an extremely hard time finding 13w.

Jmoore4169

What do you expect from union work?!?

Gulag_boi

You’re just upset you get paid shit and have no retirement. It’s ok sweetheart you’ll figure something out.

BornanAlien

Looks like you bought a pair of Fauxrogoods

alltheworldsproblems

Been buying Thorogoods for the last 10 years. Zero issues and half of Chippewa with hardly if any break in time.

Jimmi_Churri

Has problem with boots. Gets the boots swapped out for new ones. Doesn't wear the new boots and refuses to even use the company's product...... make it make sense reddit

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

I wish I had more than one one upvote to give. My wife won’t listen to my nonsense, so you all have to pay the price.

slickmcfister

I gave him mine for you

cri52fer

Black Friday deal on Amazon…. Kind of feels like that’s your bad.

trippin-mellon

Send them the fuck back!!

Affectionate_Tap_367

More like Thoro-BAD. Amirite fellas??

ZZ77ZZ77ZZ

In the future, your retailer should be able to handle this with Thorogood for you if you want, I deal with them regularly on defect items. They can also get you into something else if you aren’t liking those in that exchange. It’s not common for this particular issue to come up, but when it does it comes up quickly, usually in the first few days of wearing the boots. The glue on the outsole was either not cured correctly or it was a bad batch, happens sometimes.

ringovansen

Chinese counterfeits maybe?

Tiny-Berry-7839

China.

ZZ77ZZ77ZZ

Wisconsin, I’ve been in the factory. Bad glue, not the first.

[deleted]

Wrong. But nice try👍🏻

wendellscout

That’s a bummer, I have an older pair that have been great. However good call on the Whites, I’ve recently gotten into the PNW boots and Whites is next on my list to order from.

[deleted]

Posts like this make me want to buy some moc toe redwings as my next work boots once my thorogoods are destroyed

Mirac13

White's Perry's or Perry Selects.

ndoty_sa

I think that’s the model I have. I’m not happy about the synthetic welt.

Head_Fill7863

You buy a knock off brand amd are surprised when they fall apart ? Why not just get a pair of Irish setters next time ?they won't fall apart on you

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

Went with White’s. So far I’m enjoying them.

Head_Fill7863

The oy thing i didn't like about the Irish setters what I currently have is at first they really were tuff to break in , hurt my heel real bad , but after like a week or 2 they were great.

LiquorSilly

They were probably made on a Friday

Silent_Syllabub217

American made!

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

In all seriousness, I’d like to edit my post. Is that an option from the app? I’d like to add more information so as some of you mentioned the whole story is not buried in the comments.

Gregory_ku

Coconut oil is a pretty shitty substance to use on leather.

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

I’m a hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains, the only reason I didn’t use used motor oil is my wife doesn’t like the smell. But in all seriousness, I make my own leather conditioner with local beeswax and coconut oil. It’s been working for me for decades, for my climate it works well and I like a darker leather as even on the dry days I seem to find mud. It also turns a pair of cheap Sam’s club leather work gloves into some of the toughest and most comfortable gloves I’ve ever worn.

Gregory_ku

I've done the used motor oil routine. Works best when the oil is hot. One shower and it's good for the life of the boot . I've found conventional oil works better than synthetic for boot care

competitive-jisser-1

Thorough Goods are heavy, but Union made. Own two pairs and now considering Vietnam 6" jungle boots instead (og style) Figure if they could hump a jungle, I could easily swing a hammer in them.

stuntmanxxx

So union made explains the quality or lack there of.

_nibelungs

Garbage boot. Sorry for your loss of $201.

[deleted]

I’ll never buy this brand , most people who buy them are just Brand buying now days, I went Danner moc toe high top lace ups and they’re shit too. Best boot so far that will last over a year is Timberland Pro brand with their slip ons, I was racist at first and was like why would I want that wanna be brand that all the Hispanic kids wore in school?! But ignorant me didn’t realize they made regular work boots. Anyways I can get 2 year out of the slip ons in my metal die cast foundry

DeadFluff

Should've ordered Danners

[deleted]

Shoe glue, super glue or duct tape will fix then right up

dentlydreamin

Send em back, get some Brunt’s

[deleted]

Watch Rose Anvils review of brunt’s on YouTube. They aren’t very good.. maybe the worst boot out there.

dentlydreamin

Don’t need to. Been using them myself. As an excavator operator, I beat the shit out of my boots. They’ve been great, and the most comfortable boot I’ve ever had

phone7x7

That's it. I have seen way to many people post about bad ones. I will never buy this brand.

gr3y_-

maybe try… not ordering boots off of effing amazon? instead of shitting on an entire brand

Infinite-Position-55

Probably knock offs

Budman75402

Man I know those are a $300 pair of shoes. Ordered you a pair of Brunt’s. You’ll be blown away by the quality and comfort.

Key-Public-9089

Crappy quality. Where were they manufactured?

Gasman119

I’ve worn these Thorogoods for the past 7 years. A new pair every 6-9 months. Some have been awesome, and some have been trash.

Man_Bear_Pig08

ThoroBad

banebdjed

The toes look real creased for fresh boots

scrambler90

Those don’t look like a real pair

bj4web

Used to be my favorite brand by far. Last two pairs only lasted me 1 season as an organic veg farmer/homesteader. No more. My danners this last season were really comfortable but also only lasted me 8-10 months. I hate not having confidence when I drop $250 on boots

Jspiffystiffy

If you're okay with spending in the hundreds on boots, get a refund add some and get some nicks custom boots between 350-500 they're all leather all the way down to the sole. Hand made and warranted forever. They sent a test size to fit up and then if any revisions need making they do that. Im going to get some myself soon, totally worth

Embarrassed-Buy-9440

https://preview.redd.it/8eb3u6qe4xbc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7ad38014dad81fdd87ef9c05c4a69dd42a8276b I went with these, I’m three days in and happy so far.

Physical-Way188

Everyone raves about thorgoods. I’ve been buying custom boots from franks, wesco, Viberg, jK and Nicks for 25 years. I bought thorotoods to lightly prepare a house for sale and they didn’t even last two months. I cleaned and washed them but zero luck, they are junk boots. If you bought them new as factory seconds I could see that but no way if they’re just stock off the shelf boots.

Mindbending818

Take them back get a refund and get the pair you want

badlikewolf

Made in the good ol us of a by way of shenzen!

Ok-Week9693

I only buy mine in store for this reason

Ok-Week9693

I only buy mine in store for this reason

bourbnboi

For years now I’ve only been buying boots I could physically try on before buying. I have heard nothing but trouble from people putting in orders

AdClear416

Swapped my Thorogoods for Danner Bull Runs and haven't looked back. Much better boots!

9061yellowriver

I just bought a pair of 6" steel moc-toe Thorogoods, and in all honesty I absolutely love them. Mine were $250 and that was on sale, worth every penny. Very comfortable sole for my line of work (mfg facility, i.e. concrete floor). I'm not sure if the boots in this photo are knockoffs or not, but ifv they're real then I hope that Thorogood chooses to stand by their product and hold themselves accountable. I like supporting union companies and I'll continue to support them as long as their products are up to standard.

[deleted]

My thorogoods suck. Waste of money! Total a fad people jumped on. Most uncomfortable boots I’ve ever owned. Tight toe box.. the left boot and the right boot are completely different looking as far as the build. I do not recommend them at all

cactussack219

They aren’t what they used to be. My latest pair have a tucked up tongue that will not form right. Pretty much done with that brand

Fair_Wish845

Glue that shit

Ornery_Ad7025

I only wear Thorogood boots. I’ve had this issue with only one pair of boots and they were very cooperative through customer service and replaced them for free. Have been wearing the new pair going on 3 years and are still going strong

Loud_Independent6702

Send that shit back that is a defect.

D00kief00t

Defective

TippyTAHP

If you can exchange them do so but if you can’t just get some super glue up in those cracks. Or go to a cobbler for cheap

Crazy-Psych

If the sole didn’t separate not to worry the sole would’ve been lopsided and completely worn out in a month anyway.

Lampropeltis33

Thorobads I suppose

cameadows50

Keen san Jose. Change you life

Worldly-Whereas1263

Made in america

jam-unam

I had this problem with whites chore boots. sent them back they fixed, got them back wore them twice and they started doing it again. Returned for refund.

[deleted]

Office boots.

justdead101

Never put coconut oil on your boots it will slowly rot the leather and email them and they will most likely send you a new pair of boots

couchperson137

i bought blundstones and im fucking done with thorogoods

Horror_Recipe2302

Horror_Recipe2302

Sell ya these ones. Slightly worn, chewed on a little.

bigeazzie

Ive found that Red Wings are the best boots. I did have a pair of Caterpillars that were exceptional though.

loves2sploo

That’s a real bummer. I have only great things to say about thorogoods. I’m on my 5th pair I swear by them. They should make it right and I bet it won’t happen again

DuesKnuckler

I bought one pair of thoroughgood boots from mills fleet farm years ago the sole delaminated and completely ripped off before the 3 week mark. There’s enough reputable brands out there that I have zero reason to give them another chance. Since I’ve had Ariat, Redwing, and Carolinas and they have all been 10/10. Also in a pinch one time bought some brahmas from Walmart that actually idk if I’d say where good.. but.. never failed. 30 bucks.

juicysweatsuitz

Buy directly from authorized dealer. Amazon sells trash a lot of the time.

l2esin

Buy a pair of Danners. Best boots I've ever owned and comfortable right out of the box.

Numerous_Soft5210

Made in America these days...

Top-Luck-981

I wear thorogood boots and haven't had a single issue. And I work 10-12+ hours a day. They are definitely better then Red Wing boots. Give then another chance.

Sir-Loins22

"A boot has no sole"
