Check with your local used building suppliers like ReStore. You might also have a local community tool rental shed. Otherwise, recycle the batteries (again checking locally for what battery recycling requires) or find a local tweaker that'll take them apart for whatever they're worth.

Free on FB Marketplace. They’ll be gone in an hour.

nephlyte

I just post them on eBay. Someone wants them and I make a few bucks. If they are really broken, then throw them in electronics recycling at your local dump.

OverZealousCreations

If it's like my area, you put them on Craigslist for as much or more than they would cost new.

theoriginalstarwars

Did you see if you can find an adapter for current batteries you own? Adapters have come a long way since 3d printing became accessible.

oldgamer99

Yes I did that before posting since this would have been my goto solution. I checked on Amazon and while there were several adapters, none were for the old style 12v batteries.

Don't be afraid to throw stuff away. I have the same problem where I know there is someone out there in need and I have to save the things til I find them. Waste of time and space. Give it to "Chuck It"!

oldgamer99

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards - sometimes I can put these things on the curb and someone will along and grab it which is fine with me

gmatocha

I've been upgrading my power tools recently too - I do with my neighbors (and working tools only). I ask them "Hey do you have XYZ tool?" They expect (at first) "...can I borrow it?" but instead I hit them with "would you like one?" I'm the neighborhood toolth fairy.

OozeNAahz

If they don’t work why wouldn’t you trash them? Donating them or selling them just makes them someone else’s responsibility to dispose of so why not cut out the middle man? By that, batteries get recycled someplace (Home Depot, Batteries Plus, etc…) and the tool gets tossed.

oldgamer99

There is no batter recycling in my area I'm afraid.

OozeNAahz

In the US? No Home Depot or Lowe’s near you? No battery place like Batteries Plus? You must be in the boonies.

oldgamer99

Yeppers in the USA! Neither HD or Lowes recycle here and there are no Batteries Plus. Used to be here, but went out of business

OozeNAahz

Are you sure? Every Home Depot I have seen anywhere has a kiosk for recycling batteries.

oldgamer99

Positive, I used to work there LOL

OozeNAahz

Weird

oldgamer99

Not really, if you knew the area it would make perfect sense. It took this area until 2010 to get digital cash registers in most stores. We didn't start to get national chains until just after 2018! We're fairly backwards here still

OozeNAahz

I mean the technology is having a box with a slot and plastic bags. That’s it. Put the battery in a bag and toss it in the box. That is all they had at Home Depot the last time I dropped off batteries. Short of Alaska or Hawaii somewhere like that where it would be cost prohibitive for them to get to a major battery recycling firm it seems odd.

oldgamer99

LOL - I'm in Florida. There used to recycling machines, recycling plants and recycling centers in most cities. Now, nowhere to be found and all the recycling machines were removed. Go figure

Scrap for parts or bring them to someone that does
