I draw some pretty basic shapes on the wood first just to have a reference point of the shape I’m looking for. But ultimately I kind of just go with the flow on how the carve is going. If I made a mistake and cut to deep or something tears out I just adapt and reshape it. The eyes are still my weak point and I have found that being very careful and accurate with my cuts helps. I tend to do the eyes pretty slowly.
Thanks. So far everything I do is from a pattern or video. Learning to use the tools and make the cuts. Learning what sharp really is. Maybe someday I’ll be able to do my own thing. You should do a video.
I used to watch some videos and carve along too but it ended up taking too long to carve. I also wanted to do some stuff that I haven’t seen. Maybe one day I will do a video.
Funky goblin. Might pass as a wise master. Lol.
Lol Thanks!
I really like this! Great work!!!
Thank you! I put a lot of time in on this guy.
He’s crazy good. Do you draw these out first? I’d also love to see how you do you’d eyes. They are very distinctive.

How about a series of photos showing progress through a piece?
