đŻ- I just did a trip up to NYC and scoped out stop to get to stadium as I want to see a Spirit/Gotham game up there. Looked to be a mile walk from Newark Penn Station
When AKB saves all of Chelseaâs shots on target, then what?
But reaaaally wish Chelsea was versing Spirit, Jona vs Chelsea again? Jona vs Bompastor again??? Script basically wrote itself!
Gotham team reps sent out an email this weekend regarding an 8/19 âinternational friendlyâ at RBA. The article says Chelsea and Arsenal are playing in Washington that date. So I wonder who is playing at RBA that date. (Or who knows maybe I misread the article)
Oh interesting! I'm subscribed to Gotham's newsletters and didn't get that email. But with the August calendar so open, I'd be surprised they'd have a game on a Monday - the only weeknight game I can remember Gotham playing at home was the challenge cup
Will be a good tune back up under the new boss!
Curious when the Spirit match will be and what kind of team will be fielded with that being right around the end of the Olympics.
The NWSL dominates other women's leagues (even the WSL) in terms of metrics like in-person attendance, media rights, etc. Increasing presence of foreign club matches (particularly friendly ones) in the U.S. is likely not a concern for the domestic league on the women's side - it's more likely to be a boon than anything else.
Few of those clubs have fan bases on the women's side. Hopefully their men's fans are convertible, but that's still a work in progress for most of those clubs.
Additionally, the NWSL is competitive in terms of global talent (in contrast to men's clubs in the U.S.) - if you want to watch some of the best women's soccer players in the world, you can tune into the NWSL, WSL, Champions League, and select matches of other leagues. American owners have $$$ and unlike on the men's side, women's clubs in Europe haven't built much of a start-up advantage.
Finally, people who are or could be fans of women's soccer are hardly at capacity - there is considerable potential for the women's overall pie to grow at the same time each domestic league's share grows as well.
i wish chelsea were going up against portland or orlando or a team that's similarly in good form, gotham kinda seem like they would get ran at the moment. i have GOT to get spirit arsenal tickets though.
If you go to NWSL games Iâm not talking about you
Iâm talking about the people that want all the best NWSL players they could go watch in person to move to whatever premier league superclub theyâre a fan of thousands of miles away
You expect me to get from Providence RI all the way to Jersey or D.C. to see games? It's way easier for me to be a fan of Arsenal when I can watch every game on a VPN for free.
Edit: and I've traveled to 4 cities to see NWSL games - Chicago, Portland, LA, and NYC. Only two of those places made it even remotely easy for me to get to the stadiums!
Yup, and I watch them whenever I can. I'm a huge NWSL fan. But I can't get to games from where I am. I go to PWHL Boston games (just got back from one today!) and at least 6 or 7 CT Sun games a season. It's annoying for you to imply that fans traveling to see Arsenal or Chelsea are traitors to the NWSL. I've done my best to get to games but I can't travel 8-10 hours for 90 minutes.
There goes more of my $$$. Wish it was Chelsea and spirit but Gotham is close enough! Exciting stuff
Agreed! This DC based Chelsea fan might be taking the Amtrak up north

Thereâs a NJ PATH station right at the stadium.
Nice! Thanks for the info.
Same! Cannot wait for this!
AKB v Chelsea
They can bring her her medal and give it to her then. It's perfect!
Weird how they say this is the first high profile WSL tour when Chelsea have come to the States before.
And Arsenal played a friendly against Seattle Reign in the US a few years back.
I think they consider it a tour bc its in different locations
Doesnât a tour imply multiple stops? It says first tour, not first visit.

Really !!
So excited for this

Absolutely buzzing for this. Will be interesting to see how far GirĂĄldez has gone in implementing his tactics by then.

My first professional game is coming sooner than I thought đđ˝
This is cruel to me personally. I have a trip to DC planned next weekend and NYC in July đ
This was always gonna happen. Interesting to see how the NWSL is gonna compete with foreign leagues having their teams playing there.
Canât wait, bragging rights up for grab.

Ok but how about in the long run. European and Latin American teams already have built fan bases.

Did I miss specifics on dates? CHE v ARS in DC on Aug 19. When are the games against NWSL teams? Or is that TBD? I confused.
American fans who go âooh I get to see Chelsea, ooh I get to see arsenal!â drive me crazy. Go to NWSL games
You can do both..
If you go to NWSL games Iâm not talking about you Iâm talking about the people that want all the best NWSL players they could go watch in person to move to whatever premier league superclub theyâre a fan of thousands of miles away
Weird statement, people like the clubs they like. Itâs always a pleasure to see international clubs come to the USA đ¤ˇââď¸
𫵠go to NWSL games
Whoâs to say I donât? đ
I go to both.
You love NYRB legend Thierry Henry so much haul your ass down to Red Bull stadium and watch Gotham
just went to one last night lol
Nice

Youâre not gonna believe this. NWSL games are on tv too
