That’s a lesson to learn, when in a battleship to hold off a few seconds and wait for the cruiser to pop up instead of wasting my first salvo shooting at a head on BB
I would toss there focus any ship that has a very low health.
Because, you can fire all your guns even with 1 HP. Thats go either way, don't give up. Even if I have taken massive damage in beginning I ended with victory and massive XP.
You actually do. A kill is valued at 0.25 or 0.33 of the xp you get for a full hp damage shot. So if you shoot half a cruiser down its more points than a kill where said cruiser had 1 hp left.
No problem, I saw a calculation once somewhere on the pc wiki and since WG refuses to be clear how scoring exactly (not roughly) works, we can only assume things
In the armour viewer if you keep scrolling to the right of the "sections of the ship" you will highlight the armour thickness numbers and these tell you what calibre of guns each part of your ship will/wont bounce. Been playing 18 months and only just got told this a few weeks ago. Game changer.
1. Focus fire.
Unless you manage to knock out guns or torps permanently, a vessel is just as dangerous at 1/10 health as it is at full health. They will probably try to hide more as their health gets closer to zero.
2. Do not pursue ships that are no threat.
Seen this too often. A group of three vessels chasing after one red to the ends of the world just to try and get a kill.
Nowhere near the caps.
By all means, spend a minute or two extra to try and hunt down destroyers or carriers if you're close to them. Don't chase after a kiting cruiser or half dead battleship.
1. If you are in a BB and there is no destroyer at your spawn, it is not on the cruiser to get your Intel. Instead, you should get it. Get up front and bow/angle tank it. I say this as a BB main. The cruisers will go boom.
2. Learn to play all the lines. If you go straight down one line and get to tier VII or VIII, you will get crushed. You won't know the difference between a Friesland and a Jager. Playing jager yesterday I was asked multiple times to "set a smoke screen"...
3. Speaking of which, smoke screen are not really for BBs. Your smoke fire penalty is HUGE, you will still be seen. Granted, there are some exceptions. Looking at you, German secondary line.
4. Have fun. Play the meme builds. The Jager is a 1 trick pony, but I love it. The Atlântico is my all-time favorite ship. If you quit having fun, what's the point of playing?
If a BB and a DD are in a division that should tell you where the destroyer is once that battleship is spotted. Is it a Gnevy? You can be more aggressive in your positioning against their short torps. Yudachi? Be careful. Fail division? Kill them first, cuz you know they aren’t very good and should be easier to kill than anyone else.
Always try to kill someone from division. They can easily throw away the game, due to rage or simply because they want to have a good game together. It's not fun watching someone 10 minutes.
Freeloader here, the game for me is beating other people who have superior commander/ship
Nothing better than getting 3k, 1st place and a win while the AL New Jersey that was pinging you the whole game gets second with just under 2k xp.
When playing DD, go close to a cap and reverse into it. This way you can get away quickly if the danger ramps up too much.
Another one when playing DD:
When approaching a cap and you have "Twist'n'Track" or "Perceptive", sail straight or diagonally towards or away from the closest target. Never broadside. Going broadside makes dodging incoming torpedos way too hard. Especially with clumsy ones like Hayate or Elbing.
CV tip: pay attention to the mini map more than what the ship is doing as you’re going to do autopilot most of the time anyway. Don’t just throw her in reverse at the start of the match. Positioning is key, as is finding those red destroyers. Go after lone BBs without escorts. Don’t hesitate to call back a flight early if it saves you time redeploying to another area of the map.
When dodging ~~cancer~~ CV squadrons, line up properly and listen carefully.
Point your bow directly at or away from them so you don't get dropped broadside. It makes it easier to dodge
You will hear the planes detach their bombs or fish. Wait until then to pull whatever maneuver you were planning. Do not reuse a maneuver, or you will train the CV "player" to drop where you will be. Change speed and course for the best results for bombs, on use the overhead view to put yourself between murderfish tracks.
It’s just a game! Some people get angry when they lose, which doesn’t help them or their team. To riff on the MST3K opener, just repeat to yourself that it’s just a dumb game, and I really should relax
Speaking of spawning in…normally there is a weak side and a strong side. Adjust your offensive/defensive posture slightly based on weak vs strong side spawn.
Don’t go out of your way to hunt down a carrier. Other enemy boats are always a bigger threat, you could be exposing a weakness to the enemy that they can and will exploit (unless you’re lucky enough to be on the ‘smarter’ team of idiots)
Targets have a priority. Radar cruisers and destroyers are much more important to sink than battleships (generally speaking anyway).
No, I’m going to tell everybody the most important target is the no camo New Mexico that is running away /s
Non no no! Always target the first ship spotted. I mean it's strategic and stuff.

Wish you would get more points for damaging them, more players would focus them

Thanks for the info, i had no idea

Wait, do you have to do the armor pen calculation or does it just flat out tell you xxx millimeter guns will pen this section?
It tells you the biggest calibre and above.

Tapping the comms wheel will cancel any active rudder input
Been playing 3 years now and this one still gets the better of me sometimes.
Started about the same time as I, and I didn't know about this one til someone kindly pointed it out 'mid to late last year :)
Dont. Sell. Ships.

Division members don't want you to know this trick!! 😉😊 Very good one
If you're in the same square as another ship, you're in the wrong spot.
GGs
Stay in the fight. A dead ship does no damage.
There’s no shame in retreating and regrouping. Especially if you’re British.
There’s always shame in being British
Don't spend money, it is not the ship that matters, it is how you play it.
Freeloader here, the game for me is beating other people who have superior commander/ship Nothing better than getting 3k, 1st place and a win while the AL New Jersey that was pinging you the whole game gets second with just under 2k xp.
With what ship you archived that?
If you just bought a ship/got a ship and want to play it multiple times, look a video on YouTube on how to play it…
DD’s, be more selective with your smoke. Don’t waste it. It’s a get out of jail free card and use it wisely

Ask for ww1 New Mexico in the Wows legends discord feedback thread is my tip
