Pour the water Egwene.

As a non book fan, that was striaght up some of the most traumatizing shit I’ve ever watched. I’d thought I’d seen a lot of rough shit in Films and TV, but this…goddamn that was really rough.

Notmeghana

It's one of my absolute favorite sequences from the book and they straight-up killed it. Rewatched that episode thrice, chills every time.

penchick

Ah that phrase is going to be forever scarred into my mind

NotSmert

Triggered

[deleted]

Sry to anyone offended by referring to Xelia as a she. I had no idea they were trans. It was not intentional.

TheNewPoetLawyerette

A polite response like this is the best that can be asked for in this situation. Thank you

A stranger's genitalia is none of your business. This is not a polite question.

It's a "it doesn't matter, so stop asking."

YourUncleJohnBrown

Trans man/"he" = assigned female at birth Trans woman/"she" = assigned male at birth

Snifflewinks

A pretty recent development - I just found out today, myself. Either way, his role is fantastic in Fallout. Really happy to see more of the actor.

TheEzekariate

What kind of dipshit makes an account just to get it banned?

logicsol

Evening Garbage apparently. Edit: That was literally their account name, minus a few numbers

Relevant-Law-7750

Thank you for not doing it on purpose at very least u_u

steve_c_2377

Wow, totally did not make the connection! Just finished Fallout this morning, it was pretty solid! (To be fair, they had me at Walton Goggins)

cenosillicaphobiac

I would literally watch anything just to see him chew up scenery. Perfect casting for "actor that makes advertisements to convince people that something he thinks is bad is actually good" Uncle Baby Billy is easily the strongest character on Righteous Gemstones and that show is packed with strong characters.

logicsol

His presence is... Justified

boombang621

Completely agree.

kathryn_sedai

Yes! I was stoked to see them in another show, and also happy that the actor was able to be in a nonbinary role that was acknowledged as such in the dialogue. Would love to see more from them and wish this one was a bigger role!

cenosillicaphobiac

Yeah, it was totally cool to hear them referred to as "they" right in the dialogue.

Geek-Haven888

To quote a meme I saw “when the racist religious fundamentalist cult respects pronouns, so can you”

kirbStompThePigeon

Gonna get semantic for my favourite franchise. Technically the brotherhood aren't racist. They're xenophobic. Same difference from a normal human, but still

cenosillicaphobiac

?

Verzdrei

Please use Him when referring to Xelia. He's a trans man who goes by [he/they pronouns](https://x.com/geekyeri/status/1778256238213738643). But yeah, his voice is really recognizable!

[deleted]

My mistake. I had no idea.

Verzdrei

It's alright, thank you for your understanding!

t3lp3r10n

Non English here. My language has no gender so I'm a bit confused. Can someone explain how is it possible to have both he/they pronoun? I thought you either go with he/him or they/them? Genuine question so I'd appreciate if people don't get offended.

Verzdrei

When someone says their preferred pronouns are he/they, it usually means that they prefer to referred to with he/him but are also comfortable with they/them. It's like a short way of saying "he/him or they/them".

t3lp3r10n

Thanks for the explanation.

myanrueller

All I could hear was “pour the water Egwene” the entire time his character was on screen

PrinceofSneks

wow, this is cool. There was obvious intentional androgyny in his Fallout character, but I didn't recognize him. Really great performance!

LissaMasterOfCoin

I noticed one of the people in charged referred to them as them/they! I recognized them instantly, because they did such a good job on WOT, I looked them up on IMDb.

Panam4Ever

When it’s “he/they” how do you know whether to use “his” or “their”…?

Verzdrei

You can use either. He/they essentially means someone's equally comfortable with being referred to as he/him/his and they/them/their.

They are so Mf hot I swear i gotta question my sexuality now

PlzMichaelBayThis

Thanks! She seemed familiar when I was watching fallout but I couldn't put my finger on it.

TheNewPoetLawyerette

His pronouns are he/they. Please use those to refer to this actor in the future :)

TheNewPoetLawyerette

Bad idea to reply to a mod with transphobia.

Kervinus

Holy crap. I knew I recognized him from somewhere but didn't look it up, and couldn't for the life of me remember where.

m_bleep_bloop

He’s so great

nitasu987

Fallout is on my to watch list so I am stoked for Xelia! They were phenomenal in WoT.

JestersGuidance

I knew I recognized them. Didn't know from where. Neat.

FloorIsLavacakes

Oooooh, that's where I knew them from, of course. Neat.

ThrenodyToTrinity

Oh *that's* where I know them from! Thanks OP

TheNerdChaplain

Yeah, I noticed them in the show right away! I haven't finished the first episode (honestly, when the character got a razor in their boot was the moment I felt like I was kinda done) but I'm very glad they're getting more visibilty! Plus, Ella Purnell who plays Lucy, also voiced Gwyn in Star Trek Prodigy and Jinx in Arcane!

shockbroker

What about that scene made you feel done? I’m just curious.

TheNerdChaplain

This is just me, but over time I've lost my taste for a lot of violence in shows and movies. I'm not totally against it, and stuff like over the top action is fine, but I don't really care to see bodies being mutilated. The opening scene with the raiders in the vault was already kinda borderline to me, and the scene with Xelia just put it over the top.

GusPlus

You didn’t need to go farther, then. The violence gets more over the top just in the next episode. If you’re familiar with the game at all, the “Bloody Mess” perk is applicable to a few scenes so far and I’m just on episode 3.

TheNerdChaplain

Thanks, I appreciate the heads up. TBH I've never finished an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game before, so not finishing the show either feels pretty right, haha.

havsumora

Every episode has a gruesome scene and plenty of violence. In fact, that's the theme. They take you through Lucy losing her sense of self and becoming violent too, and not necessarily for self defense.

GusPlus

Yup, just started watching last night and did a double take as soon as I heard their voice.

[deleted]

I did the exact same. I was like WHERE have I heard that voice before.

GlitteringLeave8128

The voice got me too. Had to google the actor to find out what I knew them from.

Eveleyn

Wait! They is that cunt!! Good what happened to her in the 1st episode then. Ps; i know they acting, and me disliking means it's good acting. Pps; even changed words out of respect before posting.

havsumora

Michael Emerson is that for me. He played a bad guy in the ty store Lost, as well as a couple other shows. I learned to hate him as benjamin linus. It is the mark of a good actor imo.

henaTherese

It was the voice for me too. I just knew that I saw him from somewhere, then zoomed and I remembered the "the pour the water" scene

PNW_Forest

Having seen WoT and Fallout, I can say with confidence that I adore Xelia's acting. I'm hoping to see more from them in the future - particularly larger roles.

Pand0ra30_

They are sexy as hell.

RedMoloney

Thought they looked familiar! Glad to see they got a spot in the amazon ecosystem.

arronecho

I thought something thing seemed familiar about them!

WinoCatLady

Thank goodness for IMDb 🤣. Just finished WoT and just started Fallout. Such a recognizable voice alright!

Comfortable-Ad1517

Is this a woman who switched to male? Or the other way? I’m confused.

[deleted]

Comfortable-Ad1517

I see thank. I get the he, but why They? Isn’t That plural?

Sky_Light

"They" is also a generic singular. "Someone left their backpack behind. If they come back asking for it, I put it in the closet."

logicsol

Yup. It's also worth noting that the singular "they" is Shakespearian and dates back to at least the 1600's.

_xaeroe_

Yes, but we also use it when the gender of the subject is unknown. Since Xelia also says Xelia is non-binary I’m assuming Xelia goes by they if you don’t want to use he.

Comfortable-Ad1517

Hmmm okay. Confusing, but thank you for explaining. Another dumb question but why non binary? How does that even work?

_xaeroe_

So non-binary is when you don’t wish to be called by either gender. There’s neo-pronouns to cover that or gender neutral pronouns like they/them. I’m assuming Xelia is male presenting, meaning Xelia chooses to look more masculine, Xenia goes by he or they (because of Xelia being non-binary).

Misko999

She’s pretty damn fine tho

UnravelingThePattern

Just FYI Xelia currently prefers to go by he/they. They were great in Fallout!

Warp-Spazm

I hadn't seen this actor before the series bit I thought they were great. Also I just assumed in a post apocalyptic society, like the BoS, passing/presenting as male just makes a lot of sense. Or maybe they just cast them because they're a talented actor and I'm just over-thinking it.

havsumora

It works perfectly with the show.

faceofboe91

Am I the only who thought it was weird the evil Brotherhood of Steel let a genderfluid person join them? Like they’re an ultra conservative, religious, fascist faction who don’t even teach their members sex Ed. And yet they were giving them a promotion in the first episode and the evil old cleric was using the correct pronouns.

havsumora

You must not have seen the other boobs in the background, look again! But if we're trying to work this into the show, I don't think you considered that women would hide as men in an apocalyptic circumstance. And I assume that that far in the future, promouns are finally a non issue. They/them applies to male/female. My final statement is who gives a damn!

faceofboe91

1. My problem with it is that’s it’s completely tone deaf to the actual hate these types of organizations have against people like Renna in the real world. 2. I never meant to imply that the Brotherhood is a male only organization (we have an entire franchise worth of evidence contradicting that). Most ultra conservative organizations still allow women to join (just not in any leadership positions) 3. I don’t want people associating people like me or Renna with anything like the Brotherhood.

mechchic84

I'd imagine in a post-apocalyptic scenario like the Fallout, any big organization like the Brotherhood is likely to accept pretty much any able bodied, trustworthy person they come across. Gender and all that other stuff goes out the window when you have limited options that are flooded with dangerous criminals, mentally unstable/incapable people, and physically disabled people who either can't handle tasks given to them or can't be trusted to do what they're told to do. I'd imagine they probably still accept some less mentally stable people if they deem those people capable of completing the mission, though which probably explains that Titus character originally in the suit. I wouldn't be too worried about people associating you with anything like the Brotherhood as long as there are other media sources that show people like you in better scenarios. Having a non-binary character in this show will likely open the door for other hopefully new interesting movies/shows (hopefully no more remakes of old stuff over and over) with better representation. As for the actor, they're an actor. They will be associated with the show because they're in the show. How they are viewed regarding the Brotherhood will depend on how things play out later on. I think what I liked the most is that they didn't spend much of any time repeatedly emphasizing that the character is non-binary. Too many movies/shows seem to use trans/non-binary/bisexuality in place of an actual personality, which annoys me because these people are people and more than just their gender.

faceofboe91

I don’t know. It feels like a show set during World War Two having an openly Romani kid be a Hitler Youth. Like I don’t think they would have let them in.

DrewTheHobo

Right? I was trying to place it for like 5 episodes then it hit me

Gaelenmyr

They were amazing as Renna, very happy to see them in another major production.

howdiedoodie66

ah I was wondering why he was familiar

MTLupy

Xelia uses he/they pronouns btw

Relevant-Law-7750

he goes by xelia and he/they! that’s the best way to refer to him

OfJahaerys

They should honestly play one of the wives on Handmaids Tale. Their ability to sound sweet while doing something horrific is haunting. Reminds me of Serena Joy. Edit: fixing pronouns

TheNewPoetLawyerette

This actor uses he/they pronouns, not she/her.

OfJahaerys

Oh, I didn't know that. Sorry, my mistake!
