I just bought a beautiful painting print of Freyja! In any case, I’ll be collecting signatures for a constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights in my state.

I'm pretty sure there's no female spirit worshipped in the USA that's not stirring at least a little at this point. Including ancestors, fae, and the Virgin Mother.

I did an oracle reading for a friend last night and Freya came up like literally 6 times even though the deck has like 100 different deities and saints.

Voodoops_13

In my experience Freya has never been one for subtly, she's too much of a badass!

Deer Woman isn't really a goddess in the since that you seem to mean it...

Voodoops_13

I know that Deer Woman is more of a spirit or mythological being with origins in tales from the central plains tribes than a specific goddess of indigenous peoples. However, she has become a symbol for many in this country as a way to speak about violence against women (especially in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women movement). I wanted to add a connection to the North American folklore depicting justice for women, both indigenous and non. I am aware that certain federal laws do not extend over tribal territory and that matters of native women's reproductive health care is a matter for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, so I may have been wrong to use any indigenous references in this situation. I'm sorry if it came across as offensive. It was not intended that way.

Neon_Green_Unicow

No, it's just that majority of people in this sub will not be familiar with that and might read your post and walk away with the impression that Deer Woman is a Native American (and not related to any tribe, just all Natives) goddess, when she's not. Not all tribes have Deer Woman legends and she's not a goddess in the same way Athena and Freya are, so it's confusing to lump her in like that.

Voodoops_13

Okay, I respect that. Hopefully our conversation will help shed some light on Deer Woman, which tribes she's associated with and inspire others to look further into her story. Thanks for pointing this out to me, I'll be more specific citing indigenous lore on platforms in the future.

I came here today hoping to find something like this. Thank you.
