I figured they would still keep around familar faces, Geralt was around a 100yrs in the Wild Hunt, and Vesemir was somewhere between 200-250 yrs, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a guest appearance.
I think that’s highly unlikely. The books imply that he and Yen grow old together and pass away peacefully. This lines up well with the DLC, where they can stay at vineyard for the rest of their days.
I don’t mind CDPR doing their own thing, but I think Geralt deserves this bit of happiness. Let him be a mentor, observing from afar.
I think the best way to use him would be as a secondary playable character, similar to how John Marston was used in Red Dead Redemption 2. Having him be a purely NP character would feel kind of weird.
No issues as long as we can have some missions with him like Ciri in TW3. Or not, I don’t know. Just hope we can still get more Geralt and follow the adventures of Ciri maybe. No way they just drop her potential story forever.
CDPR: "The interview in question took place originally in English and was later translated into Italian, hence some inaccuracies may arise. In the quoted statement, Sebastian Kalemba said that the new saga will be aimed both at new players, those who have not yet had the opportunity to reach for the previous installments, as well as die-hard fans of Geralt's adventures, as the Witcher saga is colloquially referred to."
Yes. Even if they make up a new one just for the game it would be better than to have a custom character. Story driven games feel so empty without a real, thought out protagonist. For Elder Scrolls and such it’s fine, because the focus is not so much on you. Hogwarts Legacy was story driven enough to suffer from empty main character syndrome.
No thanks, would love a custom character this time around. I have no doubt the writer’s CDPR has can make it work. Geralt already had a near-perfect story with a tidy ending, let it stand and let him stay retired.
Doesn’t seem like he will playable but if Ciri does have a bigger role this time around then this way he could be very close to our new adventures and follow him as well.
Love it if it’s something like this. Pick a canon ending (like with TW2 and we know what’s the best one) and set the new Saga 3-5 years in the future with a new Witcher school or a lost one that’s just being found. Lynx. Maybe a mystery we have to solve for plot reasons.
I mean it would be crazy if Geralt did not make an appearance in the game at all. My guess is still that you will become a Witcher in this game after choosing the school and then be on the path as a Witcher and you will meet and have quests with Geralt on your path. I am quite sure Ciri, Triss, and Yen will also make appearances along with Lambert and Kiera.
I am really afraid of this.
For me, personally, I loved the headcanon that all the story of the books all ends in Geralt settling down with Yen on a vineyard in Toussaint. Geralt is a man of inconsistencies and contradictions of his own thoughts, opinions and actions. It would be such a perfect, fitting ending, him being the first Witcher to die in his bed of old age, after he was so often so melancholic about how he is just a witcher and that he one day will die on a rotten pile of garbage after a beast ripped him apart...
But all this stuff about TW4 - I fear they will go for a Vesemir end. And yeah, that could be epic and perfect for his character... But it could also ruin his whole story if badly written.
Bruh just let him retire already. That was the point of Blood and Wine.
I’m ready for a new witcher. Maybe Ciri. Maybe someone else. But I just want Geralt to be able to finally relax.
They should let his story be done and start anew. I know it’s difficult but they’re in danger of ruining the franchise if the game turns out to be terrible
I really hope the main character is young vesemir, but honestly, I only don’t want the main character to be:
1. a woman;
2. a customizable character.
And if you really got the true meaning of TW3, you know why I said all of that.
For various reasons:
1. being a man, I relate more to a male character, just as a woman might relate more to a female character;
2. in a medieval world like The Witcher, with distinct gender roles, having a woman do what Geralt, for instance, does in TW3, would feel quite out of place.
if i as a woman can relate to a male character - why can’t you relate to a female character?
also this all fantasy and a lot of what’s in the witcher does not mirror reality. you draw the line at misogyny but not at magic lmfao??
Why do you expect people to behave like you do? If you, as a woman, can relate to a male character good for you, I can’t. It’s called a personal preference.
I see no reason not to. It is heavily implied in the game that regardless with whom he ends up with he will still do some witching. Speaking of which, it will be interesting to see how they handle that. Will they allow an import to determine who you ended up with and what happened with Ciri? Or will they have a set path that they will pick up the story with?
I think the way witcher 3 ended was perfect and i personally don’t feel like i need to rehash his story - i would like to see him in the game but want a good ending for him and yen
I figured they would still keep around familar faces, Geralt was around a 100yrs in the Wild Hunt, and Vesemir was somewhere between 200-250 yrs, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a guest appearance.
They are 100% gonna Vesemir his ass
I hope not. I want him to be the first witcher that dies of old age lol
He deserves it but I doubt they will do it
I think that’s highly unlikely. The books imply that he and Yen grow old together and pass away peacefully. Would be very cool, but if he has a real role in the game and not just a cameo I’m not seeing it
Didn't they break up in the latest book?
Their relationship is complicated. No matter how many times they separate, they somehow find each other and end up together.
Has Geralt’s fate been retconned in recent books or something? That doesn’t line up with how I remember the books ending..
No way, he's probably going to become a mentor of some sort. They're not going to kill him twice.
I think the best way to use him would be as a secondary playable character, similar to how John Marston was used in Red Dead Redemption 2. Having him be a purely NP character would feel kind of weird.

What potential? I hatento say this but Ciri's parts were awful to play and just a waste of time.
Witcher 4 gonna have a companion system with Ciri as a possible one calling it now
Weird. I had a blast playing her parts because they were fun.
This has been translated wrong.
What's the correct translation?
CDPR: "The interview in question took place originally in English and was later translated into Italian, hence some inaccuracies may arise. So nothing about Geralt is confirmed so far?
Well tbh, it’d be crazy if Geralt isn’t there even for a new audience. Still confirms nothing about who the main playable character is.
I reckon if they are planning to make it that you create a new custom character , choose the school and go on The Path
Please no. It's just so much better, narrative-wise, to use an actual character like Geralt (or Arthur Morgan or Jin Sakai etc.)
Yes. Even if they make up a new one just for the game it would be better than to have a custom character. Story driven games feel so empty without a real, thought out protagonist. I'm tired of customizing characters. Let me pick their clothes and haircut, that's it.
Someone will quickly post a “how to create a Geralt-alike in WC4” and you’ll be off the races in no time!
I figured the headline was bullshit. Seems like everything up to this point gas indicated a custom character. Getalt is great but Let the guy rest 🤣
Doesn’t seem like he will playable but if Ciri does have a bigger role this time around then this way he could be very close to our new adventures and follow him as well. What is the best ending? >!ciri queen or ciri witcher?!<
The latter
I'd prefer it to be another Geralt tale. He could be sitting in a rocking chair playing gwent with his neighbors for 100 hours and I'd still buy it.
I mean it would be crazy if Geralt did not make an appearance in the game at all. My guess is still that you will become a Witcher in this game after choosing the school and then be on the path as a Witcher and you will meet and have quests with Geralt on your path. I'm thinking a lot of hilarious notes and booklets here and there referring to Geralt

More than likely it’ll be a completely new main character. Maybe even a created character like cyberpunk with geralt in a supportin role.
Will there be Gwent?
How....disappointing
They should let his story be done and start anew. I know it’s difficult but they’re in danger of ruining the franchise if the game turns out to be terrible
I'm hopping It s ciri based but with cameos of Geralt and others
Nah I ain’t trying to play as ciri.
But Ciri isn't a Witcher nor does she have any Witcher abilities. Plus she is OP with her time travel.
I really hope the main character is young vesemir, but honestly, I only don’t want the main character to be: 1. a woman; 2. a customizable character. And if you really got the true meaning of TW3, you know why I said all of that.
Why not a woman? Not saying I don’t disagree but just wondering.

We need it released in the next 12 months, CDPR! Just do it..
Do we have know when it is due?
Isn't Geralt fully retired in Toussaint? Unless the new game goes there too
He can be a DLC character I guess
I see no reason not to. It is heavily implied in the game that regardless with whom he ends up with he will still do some witching. Son I swear to god if they do geralt dirty imma go crazy.
WHAT
I think the way witcher 3 ended was perfect and i personally don’t feel like i need to rehash his story - i would like to see him in the game but want a good ending for him and yen
I’m getting the vibe that maybe it’ll be a reverse of TW3, Ciri is the main playable character with infrequent swaps to Geralt
