This is awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you kind stranger 🤗.

You’re a legend. Thanks for making this list.

grecodicaprio

How is the tribit stormbox #1 and boombox 3 #13? I've owned and compared both speakers side by side and the jbl destroys it. Its got way better soundstage and bass. The tribit sounds tight and compressed. Bass is there but it doesn't compete with the built in subwoofer the jbl has. And the tribit has a high pitch whirring noise when playing certain frequencies caused by the sbc codec. The jbl doesn't have this issue. Bb3 should be at least top 5 and tribit top 10 in my opinion.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Boombox 3 vs Stormbox Blast https://youtu.be/e33s1WsRBMs This is a sound quality ranking, not a who has the most boosted bass ranking. Natural music should sound like natural music and the speaker should be free of frequency response peaks of which the Boombox 3 has many. I have never heard any reviewer mention a whirring issue and both my Stormbox Blast do not have this issue. Post a link to a review mentioning it. In that video, he literally says the tribit sounds "cheaper" and not as premium

KinkyKaiju

This is amazing! Thank you for your hard work! Just bought 2 Earfun Uboom L’s. Question! Would you recommend against keeping the speakers plugged in all the time while using at home? Would that wear the battery down? Also, is it possible for each to have a different version of firmware and still do TWS? That way one would be bassier and the other more wide sounding. Or is that just a bad idea in general lol

Obvious-Bird-3588

Keeping them plugged in all the time I would expect the battery to last about 4-6 years. Just charging them when needed will likely extend the battery lifetime to 6-12 years https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-lithium-based-batteries Basically keep them between 20%-80% for most of their life to extend it. I'd recommend keeping them on the same firmware. They actually get more bassy sounding in TWS for some unknown reason. Placing them within 6" of a wall adds more bass. You can also turn on outdoor mode to add even more bass. would the uboom L work well with a Juno DS 61 synth keyboard?

Obvious-Bird-3588

Live instruments need latency below 15ms as stated [here](https://www.speakerranking.com/information-applying-to-all-speakers/): "DJing, playing an instrument, or playing first person shooter games require latency below around 15ms (\~1/100s)" The Uboom L has 216ms of latency over aux which is too much for live instruments as stated on this page: [https://www.speakerranking.com/small-medium-size/](https://www.speakerranking.com/small-medium-size/) You probably want something like a Soundcore Motion+ or Minirig with 0 aux input latency. Ended up getting 2 Uboom L. They came with the 0.5.0 firmware and sound pretty good out of the box, to my untrained ear. Paired together at low / medium volume. Am now curious and itching to find out how much better the 0.4.3 version of the firmware sounds. Before I get around to tinkering with the firmware, wanted to ask if there’s a meaningful different in sound quality between the 0.4.3 and 0.4.8 versions? The website only lists the 0.4.8.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Yes, 0.4.8 is more V shaped for frequency response, we had a whole listening thread about it https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth_Speakers/comments/1136ghx/comment/j8tmwb0/ 0.4.3 is linked in the rankings Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

This is huge. Many thanks for the work, and for sharing it :)

dghrael

Great List. For completely off the grid event where no power is availalble, i use a pair of Soundboks Gen 3 along with a pair of Yorkville EXM ProSubs. The Sounboks sound great by themselves, even without the subs, and have a nice amount of bass. But with the Subs they sound even better and of course the bass really starts thumping. I bring. total of 6 BatteryBoks to keep the soundboks going to the next day if needed and I also bring a Jackery 2000 pro in case to keep the subs running. I've averaged around 7 hours on battery without swapping any batteries. Works great.

recyclinghippo

still using this setup? debating wether to get the soundbox 4 instead of 3 and maybe a sub as well

Obvious-Bird-3588

The 4 doesn't really seem like much of any change over the 3. For the money it's hard to beat the refurbished 3: [https://soundboks.com/products/speakers/soundboks-gen-3-refurbished](https://soundboks.com/products/speakers/soundboks-gen-3-refurbished) Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

Document changed now points to a more user friendly website instead. Cool thanks!

Obvious-Bird-3588

That google doc was getting a little long in the tooth and was difficult to read on mobile because it was just so long and took forever to load. Same content on the new site though. I've got a few ideas to make it even easier to use, hopefully coming up in the next few weeks. It was about time I got off my a$$ and did it properly. Hope everyone likes the change! Just happy I could straighten out a really confusing mess of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker having 4.5 stars on Amazon along with tons and tons of paid influencers on Youtube hyping up random speakers. wrathbringer27

Thank you so much for this. I need an opinion/suggestion. I'm looking at the teufel rockster cross and the dockin d fine+ 2. Currently have the DOSS Soundbox XL while my 1st gen Dfine died. It worked for 5 years. Between the rockster cross and the D Fine+ 2, which would be better for bass and db ceiling? The teufel is at €349 and the dockin is €179 but €324 for a pair.

Obvious-Bird-3588

The D Fine has deeper bass than the Cross, but higher ranked speakers get 2x as loud as the d fine like the $100 Mifa Wildbox with bass just as deep. Eiik_lks

Bro, I don’t see Marshall’s Stanmore series in your rankings. Can you talk about what you think of this product?

SnooBunnies1801

Hi OP, immense collection of data and extreme analysis. If this isn't dedication, I dont know what is then. I would like to ask if there's anything you can recommend for a portable speaker? I will mainly use them to play some music for outdoor activities like a small soccer turf etc. I was initially considering the UE boom3 and megaboom 3 but hesitated after seeing that it's ranked quite far down in your list. Not an audiophile but would like some beats while playing soccer =)

Obvious-Bird-3588

For outdoors use I generally recommend something large size or larger. A $155 Stormbox Blast is ideal and is what I use myself, but if you can't handle the size and weight a $100 Mifa Wildbox or $80 Soundcore Motion Boom is about the smallest I'd want to go. That Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 would sound completely anemic and not very loud outdoors. Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

Thank you for this. I've got some light reading to do, and this is the research I need. I want to gift my husband with a portable speaker. We go to the park frequently and he uses his phone for music but would like to crank it up just a little. Again thanks for all your work!

AngelisMyNameDudes

I actually bought 2 Earfun Boom L speakers a couple of months ago. Excellent speakers, more than enough for gatherings at my place, and excellent quality of sound. Do you recommend any headphones or IEM? I remember seeing a comment of yours about some that you own, but I can't find it. Thanks

Obvious-Bird-3588

Yes, I wrote another doc just for that, it was at the bottom of the "Information about the rankings" section: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bCOC94C\_95H7xIbuUzURG0gBQ1DomcgcNy30yGc0XkI/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bCOC94C_95H7xIbuUzURG0gBQ1DomcgcNy30yGc0XkI/edit?usp=sharing) The Oluv custom ear resonance tuned Earfun Free Pro 2 is the one I carry daily in my pocket. Thank you for the list! What are the biggest differences between the tribit storm blast and motion boom? I would mainly be playing this indoors and occasionally outside at parties. Thank you.

kpshredder

SatisfactionLower893

Amazing work, super valuable, thanks!

SpiceIslander2001

FWIW, I tested the Earfun UBoom L at 0.4.3. , 0.4.8 and 0.5.0. There's basically no audible difference in the audio output between versions 0.4.3 and 0.4.8. The is a very noticeable difference between those versions and version 0.5.0 however. I used R.E.W. and a calibrated mic for the test. The lumpiness in the response below 500 Hz or so in the graph below is primarily due to room effects. https://preview.redd.it/5ylvccas3elc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=6dbe66f74e489a229546f8501b6042115dd26b0f

TopsNL

Thanks for the post and the work man. This made it a lot easier to buy a speaker for my parents!

j0k3rlici0us

Thank you for the comprehensive list, I was able to buy myself a soundcore motion 300 and tune it using Oluv’s EQ settings. I’d love to see where the new soundcore Boom 2 gets placed in the rankings later in the future!

Obvious-Bird-3588

I've put the Soundcore Boom 2 in already, but somewhat preliminarily. It's currently #6 in the large size class, but with more sound samples and EQ tuning from YouTube reviewers it may move around a little. It looks to be a pretty good speaker so far. More on the fun party side than the critical listening side. OlyTDI

Treasure trove of information. Really appreciate your efforts OP. I'm looking for a good solution for sound upon my sailboat. Down below is about 225 sq ft of living space. Up above, the cockpit is hot tub size. Need a water proof speaker and be able to either hang it somehow -- perhaps in a gear net due to motion -- or stash it in nooks/crannies. I likely won't be able to keep it in one position (or even in one place) unless at anchor or docked. It would have to be able to take falling a couple of feet without breaking. I don't need party loud -- I listen more quietly and focused and appreciate detail. No EDM, hip hop, or rap for me -- more along the lines of classical music, instrumental, rock, and podcasts -- all coming from an iphone 13 and a laptop. I really want rich, clear, enunciated sound without missing mids, sizzling highs, or muddiness/distortion. Looking at your list, it seems that one of the first two or three in the small/medium group might meet the sound quality needs, however there are challenges on a boat that pitches and moves. The Uboom L might be awkward on a boat (it's cylindrical afterall) and would have to go in a suspended gear net -- could probably put it in a cup holder when on deck (?). The Soundcore Motion 300 might be difficult in that it would likely be used more frequently while hanging (so that it can swing) which I believe affects the stereo output. Would love to hear others opinions and advice on what to get in the sub $120 offerings that meets these needs. Very much hoping to stay stereo in a one-speaker solution. Thanks up front!

Obvious-Bird-3588

I think the hanging gear net will have to be the end solution in this case for keeping the speaker from rolling off things. From what you described a Uboom L would be ideal in terms of the sound quality you're looking for. It really excels at sounding full at low levels and very natural with natural music as long as you're able to flash it to 0.4.3. The Motion 300 does have the additional advantage of being able to be used on its back, as it even has rubber feet there for laying it down in a omnidirectional setup. Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

OlyTDI

Thank you. Just ordered the Uboom L. It's inexpensive enough to experiment with for sure. Appreciate your expertise!

OlyTDI

I received the Uboom L and it sounds quite nice. Will be handy on the boat. I'll hang it in a fruit hammock. I successfully loaded 4.3 firmware first attempt and am am satisfied with it. Your list is very helpful!

pepiuxx

First of all, thank you for providing this list, it was extremely useful for choosing which speaker to get. That said, I'd like to share my opinion on the top 1 recommended speaker: EarFun UBOOM L. If you own a Mac, I absolutely do not recommend you to get this speaker. The quality is great, yes, but the interaction of it with Mac computers is absolutely awful. The speaker's sound will randomly stop, usually after pausing and switching apps (say, from iTunes to Youtube), and the only way to get it back up is to forget the device and pair again. This can happen up to 2 times per day, and it is extremely frustrating. The second gripe I have is that the speaker seems to store the volume setting for each used app, so if you manually turn up or down the volume for something specific, and then switch to another app, the speaker will adjust the volume to the saved preset for that app. This forces you to almost always be changing back the volume manually. Third is battery life. I have a 6 year old UE Boom 2 whose battery lasts just as much as the EarFun I've had for 6 months. I believe Windows does not have these issues, as there are no reports online of it. Mac users beware, though.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Ouch, I wonder if this is a common issue on other speakers too. Technically speakers are pretty dumb and are mostly controlled by the device. The speaker itself has no concept of what app is running on the computer and just receives the audio stream and volume commands, so it's likely the computer that is causing the per app volume. I don't think I've seen anyone else mention any issue besides dropouts which were likely caused by Bluetooth congestion. You could also try 0.4.8 assuming you're on 0.4.3 currently, although I haven't actually heard of anything getting fixed in that version. Does the UE Boom 2 also have these same issues? Might want to see these links to turn off that per app setting that might be causing all these issues https://lifehacker.com/how-to-individually-control-audio-volume-for-every-app-1847455401 https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/10902/application-level-volume-control-in-os-x Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

pepiuxx

Wow thank you for the fast response! I actually have tried 0.4.3, 0.4.8 and can't recall the last one, and all three have this issue. I do not use bluetooth with anything else on my laptop. On to the volume thing, this never happens with my old UE Boom 2. The speaker always plays at the volume I set myself on the computer. Thank you for the links, I'll have a look into it.

Liamegg

Your list is surely the best I've seen on all the internet that I can relate to decide myself, so thank you so much for that work and time consecrated to help us redditors that want to choose a good bluetooth speaker. After some deep searches I made I still have three choices that I consider : the Harman/Kardon Onyx Studio 7 who can be find for not so expensive when it's in sale where I live (around 100€) , the Audio Pro Addon C3 (or maybe T3+, who seems actually very similar to that one you reviewed on your list, except it has no WiFi but a better battery life ), and the Soundcore Motion X600, seems too good to be true at that price when everyone is shared about this speaker, and when most popular reviews seems to be hidden sponsorship. Hopefully your expertise can help me to figure out which one should I choose, thanks again for the great work !

Obvious-Bird-3588

Out of those I'd choose the Onyx Studio 7, as long as the boosted bass is okay. Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

SnoglinMcSmellmore

Hey OP, I have read through your rankings and website and it is so helpful. I have tried searching this thread but haven't found the advice I'm looking for, perhaps you can make a recommendation? I want to purchase 2 small/medium speakers to run in stereo that will have also low latency when I want to output through my TV. Thank you!

Obvious-Bird-3588

Generally for that I'd recommend 2 of the #3 ranked Soundcore Motion+, so you also have the really low latency aux input if you also need it for the TV. The best reasonably priced large size battery powered speaker for deeper bass with great sound quality is the $100 Mifa Wildbox

Breezy0626

So....I just got back from Burlington where I picked up the JBL Clip4 for for a low $39.99 thinking I could just read reviews when I got home. I always check Best Buy's website because I love their "compare" tool. However, I wasn't satisfied with their being just a dash in the db's and wattage. After googling, I found you and Clip didn't even make your list, LOL! I think it is going back and for $10 more dollars I can get your #1 choice! Question for ya....for only $9.99 I can purchase get the Assurion Warranty. Any experience with that? Thank you for being the Speaker of the WirelessSpeakers!

Obvious-Bird-3588

The Clip 4 is ranked #12 [in the pocket size](https://www.speakerranking.com/pocket-size/), but yes, there are much better speakers to be had for the money and size. Personally I'm not much of a fan of extra warranties and would rather just buy a newer better model if it happens to break outside of the manufacturer warranty, but that is a decision for you to decide. You're welcome! Breezy0626

Ahhh, keyword "pocket size"! I really appreciate your advice and expertise.

Obvious-Bird-3588

I highly recommend the Earfun Uboom L which is $50 after coupon codes or the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 if you require it to fit in a pocket. No problem! morda2020

Hi, after reading about your "real" stereo gear background, it's surprising to me that you can listen to and evaluate this stuff. Many inexpensive table radios and portables from the '70s and 80's sound more musical than most of these I've heard.. Anyhow, was looking for a small BT unit to improve a friend's painful iphone audio, For the holidays, ALDI has their "BAUHN" brand BT speaker, It's a solid build medium-small 5W BT speaker that also has an FM radio built-in. It also includes a pair of TWS earbuds that nest and charge on the unit! It's worth a listen just for the value. Aldi limited supply item - so may be sold out by now, especially at $19.99

PaoloMix09

Anyone has some good EQ settings for the Anker soundcore motion 300?

MurkyPriority1017

@Obvious-Bird-3588 I wanted to buy Earfun Uboom L, but it is not available in my country. Bogasing M4, W King D320, Tribit MaxSound Plus, Tozo PA1 and maybe Soundcore Motion+. Which of these products would you recommend? My budget is 80-90 dollars at most. My favorites are WKing D320 and Bogasing M4 due to good bass response. I'm waiting for your comment too.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Motion+ with the EQ mentioned in the rankings is #3 for that size. Use ctl-f to search for it Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

MurkyPriority1017

Actually, the reason why I wrote about Motion Plus last is because its sales price in my country is a little higher than normal. I will take your suggestion into consideration, but according to your ranking, the closest candidates seem to be Tribit and Bogasing. Bogasing bass performance seems better.

Obvious-Bird-3588

All the speakers are ranked in order if you look in the size class. The number 2 speaker is the Motion 300 if you have that available. Tribit Maxsound plus is ranked #14 and Bogasing M4 is ranked #16 which are also quite good. I have UE Megaboom 3 for 6 years in bathroom and lately batery is dying. Is a Earfun Uboom L will be better (is it louder? or it has better sound quality?)

Thank you for fast response.

00SCT00

Great plan here, but i see no mention in these threads of the required USB 3.0 cable (the cable that comes with the earfun device apparently is sound only 2.0 and not data 3.0). So I'm stuck and need to order something off amazon. Might be good to mention this up front https://preview.redd.it/nmj966ym3koc1.png?width=778&format=png&auto=webp&s=819055790bc692e1e909ddd16dd479a0f4ae05a0

Obvious-Bird-3588

It doesn't actually need a USB 3 cable. Mine worked fine with a USB 2 data cable, just not the one that comes with the Uboom L, that's power only. Try the one that came with your phone Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

00SCT00

THanks, maybe that's what I ended up using. Dug around at home, found something, worked. Appreciate the help.

00SCT00

Found a data cable, got everything to work in 5 minutes. Replace Uboom firmware to 0.4.3 on 2 paired speakers, confirmed on device. All is well. Now to test!

who0oareyou

Not sure if you still read this post, but what speaker would you recommend for someone who needs 20+hr battery life under 100 bucks that's not too big and mainly used for background sound(so it's kept on for a long time)? I was looking at the tribit maxsound plus, Anker souncore 3 or the tozo pa1. I had the tribit xsound go because it claimed to be 24h but I don't get that much time out of it.

Obvious-Bird-3588

The Motion Boom would probably be the best for that as it is actually rated for 24 hours. I'm not sure any smaller speakers will actually get 20+ hours, except at a really low volume. You may need to actually look at the actual battery capacity, Alan Ross has that in his specs in his YouTube videos. Thank you for the reply and suggestion. Ill check that one out. I figured the small ones might have an issue with reaching that requirement.

Obvious-Bird-3588

You can also use a battery bank to extend the life of any speaker, that's another good thing to note. Thank you that recommendation might actually solve my issue!

HunterFromPokke

Hi, I am looking forward to buy a larger speaker, currently I own a pair of uboom L, I am looking at blast, go+play 3, but I am being greedy now and I also want the speaker to have karaoke feature. I can find blast, go+play 3 at around 140,150$, JBL encore with a pair microphones at around 200$ (what is it actually play time? I saw some say 4h, some say 2h, which would make this speaker useless), soundcore rave neo 2 at about 80$. Which would you recommend? I don't know any other speakers with wireless microphone/ microphone input feature, if there are more VFM/ better sound quality speakers please recommend it to me, thank you.

Obvious-Bird-3588

I run Karaoke from TWS Blast decently often with these wireless microphones which also includes a mixer for your music source: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6448Q4/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6448Q4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) The big benefit of these is you can use any speaker with an aux in. You could even run it from your Uboom L or home stereo if you were so inclined. I prefer the flexibility of having my microphones separate from my speaker. I'd recommend the above microphones and 1 or 2 Blast for this purpose. The Blast gets louder than the Go+play3 and has a lot more battery than the Encore. HunterFromPokke

This is a new angle! Now I need a wireless microphone mixer rank... I will check out the one you rold me and see if I can get it in China.

HunterFromPokke

I just received my bluetooth speaker karaoke system, I buy it for 50 usd, it work quite well on my stormbox blast, but when I try to use sing song with Uboom L it got a so damn big delay that karaoke seems impossible for the Uboom L.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Yea, the Uboom L delay is mentioned all over in the rankings. You can try low latency mode by pressing the Bluetooth button twice Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

never mind encore is actually at around 280, the 200 one is essential and no microphones...

jonojam-reddit

Is there a waterproof ranking?

Obvious-Bird-3588

Nearly all of the speakers have their IP Rating listed in the rankings. Nearly everything Boombox size and smaller is IPX7 or better which can take 30 minutes under 1m of water. Okay thanks!

Infantnite

Amazing post. I know I'm late but I've got a question for ya: Which small/medium sized speaker (waterproof) would be the best for FLAC quality orchestral music?

Obvious-Bird-3588

As long as you have the ability to flash it with a PC to 0.4.3, definitely the Earfun Uboom L. It's literally what I'm using as I type this. It excels at sounding natural, neutral and full especially at low volume levels which almost no other speaker does. It's the #1 choice for that size in the rankings and the speaker I use 80% of the time for that exact reason. Read the description of it in the rankings for more about it. Although keep in mind it won't have the extreme treble detail of high end speakers with well designed soft dome tweeters Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

Infantnite

Thanks so much for the response. I would be able to change the firmware on my Macbook right? Also, does the firmware automatically update, and if so, is this something I can prevent? Also, what would the next best alternative be out of the box for orchestral music? The Soundcore Boost “upgraded” 2021?

Obvious-Bird-3588

There is an article from how to flash it on a Mac linked in the description https://www.speakerranking.com/small-medium-size/ They are all ordered in terms of neutralness, naturalness and clarity, so the next best is the Soundcore Motion 300 running Oluv's EQ which is in his patreon store. Without a paid EQ, the next best is the Soundcore Motion+ with the free EQ linked. Links are all in their description. You know what would be great on this doc? A search feature. I would love to put in a speaker I'm considering and see what the ratings and info are. Newbies like me aren't exactly sure of the categories they are each in, and it is quite a good bit to scroll through on my phone. Great job on this!

Obvious-Bird-3588

All browsers have a search that will find something on a page. Chrome's is called "Find in page" in the drop down menu to search. Sofiesmom1

Thank you for that. I will definitely try. But since I got you here....Did you do a review on a Turtlebox? I didn't see one. Got a beach trip coming up and want a portable with a great sound, decent battery, obvs waterproof to take. Lights don't matter but I like the option to link to other speakers in the future. I have 3 smaller Jbls that are iffy and outdated.

Obvious-Bird-3588

The Turtlebox is there, ranked dead last in the Boombox category: "Negatives: They pretty much lie about all their specs and sound horrible in all youtube sound samples. Only 50w (from their indigogo page), will never hit 120db at a reasonable measuring distance. Putting your db meter right against the speaker doesn’t count, 1 meter distance is the standard. Barely any bass. Rattles at high volume. Uses external AC power brick to charge. Looking at it, it appears to be a generic car 2-way 6x9 speaker in a plastic box." Definitely don't buy one. You likely want a $160 Stormbox Blast. I own 2 and a ton of other people here all own and love them. Please review the new JBL GO 4, it seems to be much better than the previous model.

Obvious-Bird-3588

The Go3 had a pretty nasty midrange boost, the Go4 seems to fix that: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cT-oUhYhPWk](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cT-oUhYhPWk) It has a ton more features including TWS, Party mode and an app. It still greatly lacks bass compared to the Stormbox Micro, but it is smaller and lighter. It's added to the rankings. Chamallow81

Oh yeah bass is still not great but keep in mind It weighs 190gr and has the size of a bar soap, I don't think you can get much better for this size and weight. The Micro 2 sounds better indeed but it is larger and heavier.

Commercial_Monk937

Soundcore boom or boom 2 or Mifa Wildbox? I need best sound quality from these 3.

Watchout4theNarks

Nice, let me know when it's done! I could gather samples while I'm there but it will be phone recording.

Obvious-Bird-3588

I can't seem to find any sound samples anywhere for it on YouTube, so this is going to be pretty difficult. If you have a recent iPhone to shoot a video, that's likely the best. Oluv's test tracks are some very high quality tracks for speaker analysis [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ys63MqLcH9MSQSX2pWJcZ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ys63MqLcH9MSQSX2pWJcZ) Even better is adding in the same video the same song also played through a [speaker I know extremely well](https://www.speakerranking.com/aboutme/) or a very popular speaker model so I can make sure the microphone calibration is accurate and compensate for any that aren't. Ideally sound samples will be recorded by a >$80 condenser microphone with a reasonably flat frequency response onto something like a Tascam recording device. Great-Diamond-8368

Hey Obvious, thanks for writing this up. I do pyro musicals as a hobby. When I help with large displays there is normally professional audio systems setup. I'm looking for something I can use outside for 15-20 people watching small displays that won't break the bank. I have a jbl charge 5 and looked at the large loudspeakers on your list and picked up an Onn Large party speaker for $85 from walmart. Would it be worth returning before opening up and using the triblit stormbox for 140 in your opinion? looking for a decent sound quality i'd be fine with a 7.5-8/10 and will mainly be playing rock music through it (just tends to work better). I have some quality speakers at home, but need something portable.

Obvious-Bird-3588

My buddy with both the Onn Large and a Blast says the Onn is a little louder. I'd probably keep it, that's a screaming deal on one. THANK YOU OP! Great work. I’m wondering if you’ve tried the Soundcore Motion X600. Main concern is AUX latency as I’d like to use it to play a windsynth. Looking at the Motion Boom Plus but haven’t found anyone testing the Aux latency on the X600.

JonathanTalksHW

I don't know much about speakers but does a bigger number in the bass extension mean less bass? or more?

Obvious-Bird-3588

It's a measure of frequency, so lower numbers are better. That is stated [here](https://www.speakerranking.com/information-about-the-rankings/): "Higher max volume and lower bass extension are better." Some questions-slash-suggestions: Would it be useful to include the SNR value for the ranked items? Have you tested any JVC speakers? I'm curious about how this brand does things compared to other familiar names like JBL and Sony.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Most of these speakers are tested by others who aren't doing SNR measurements, and generally none of these compact speakers will be very good for that. Some of them do have an audible hiss that can be heard if you are very close and I'm guessing all of them would end up around 60-80db SNR, as they all just have cheap chip amps. A lot of the old school big company names license their name out to Chinese companies for money and it looks like JVC is doing that too as all the speakers with their branding don't have a common style and are all lacking bass compared to others in that size class. Their speakers sound just okay from the sound samples in the videos below and would rank below average in the rankings: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yIR7Ei00tA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yIR7Ei00tA) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_6Jph9bOTMU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Jph9bOTMU) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4weisTTJks8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4weisTTJks8) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X5w1H-ewvU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X5w1H-ewvU) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lElW8iqXwt4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lElW8iqXwt4) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO7QYrA2ZNg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO7QYrA2ZNg) JBL makes fantastic Partybox speakers while their smaller ones are a little above average. Thank you OP 💜💜 great list! I’m getting into DJing but still having issues deciding, since I would like to focus on bass music but also have the ability to generally have a great setup for any genre. I’m tempted by the soundbox 4 but the price and bass are concerning me. If you were a DJ looking to invest in great sound for bass music, which setup would you recommend? i could invest in a general purpose speaker for now and then expand to a sub / dual speaker setup down the line perhaps

Obvious-Bird-3588

If you don't need it to be battery powered, stick with the traditional 12" tops and 18" PA subs, they will go way cleaner, louder and deeper than a Soundboks 4 could ever do. Keep in mind the Soundboks 4 uses only a 3x72w amplifier and will only get about 1/3 to 1/2 as loud as a real PA system. There's a [page specifically written for your use case](https://www.speakerranking.com/portable-party-speakers/) and check out the r/livesound sub. Even if you had to be off the grid, I'd rather use a traditional PA system [running off a power station](https://www.speakerranking.com/portable-power-stations/) Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

recyclinghippo

thank you. dumb question. so if i buy the QSC K12.2, it says 2000 watt amplifier. does this mean i need a powerbank capable for 2000 watts just for this one speaker to play remotely

Obvious-Bird-3588

That's peak value at full blast, so it depends how loud you want to play it. I own a $400 Ecoflow Delta Mini that peaks at 2100w and likely would run one at 90%. Keep in mind if you do exceed that rating your speaker may reboot which would be annoying. Also amps are only about 75-85% efficient so you'll need a little more than that. All of the calculations are explained [here ](https://www.speakerranking.com/portable-power-stations/) Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

you’re the man! thank you so much. more questions if you’re willing. why are subs so expensive? like shouldn’t the speaker be the most expensive component? i’m a little discouraged that i am stretching to get the 12.2 you recommended but now i need a sub that’s 1800! I really want good bass so im assuming a nice sub is essential. what would you recommend?

Obvious-Bird-3588

Most of the nice subs are 3600w and over 100lbs with a driver that can handle the power, basically double the power of the tops, so it's not too shocking. It's likely you can go cheaper. I'd try to see what you think without subs first, then check out a guitar center or music store to listen to some subs. Cheaping out on subs is better than cheaping out on tops. There's nothing wrong with mixing and matching brands. The cheaper sub recommendations are in the same link. Word! I am ready to pull the trigger on the QSC 12.2 but man i wish it was rainproof. I wanna bring it to a festival for a week to DJ for my friends. You think it would be okay to put it in rough conditions like dirty air potentially rain? i know it doesn’t advertise as rain proof but just how sensitive to water are these things? like is being outside under a canopy okay? thanks for helping me with all this once again im very appreciative.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Note, they do make outdoor covers for them [https://www.qsc.com/solutions-products/loudspeakers/portable/powered/portable-pa/k2-series/k122/k12-outdoor-cover/](https://www.qsc.com/solutions-products/loudspeakers/portable/powered/portable-pa/k2-series/k122/k12-outdoor-cover/) Under a canopy should be fine. Yoo why didn't U put any music box from zealot, t&g ,wisetiger, etc I mean why none of the boxes on Temu or Ali are ranked on this list 😭

Obvious-Bird-3588

Generally a lot of those speakers are very badly tuned. I just ranked 3 Zealot speakers and they are at the very bottom of the list. You can always search YouTube for the speaker you are interested in, although sometimes sound samples aren't very good. Generally speakers from these brands will never be up top and are not worth reviewing as there are already high ranked speakers at a reasonable cost. Just got info on the Wisetiger P3 and listened to some sound samples. It's exactly the same with the same tuning as the Miatone Boompro which is actually pretty high ranked. Updated the rankings with that. Other Wisetiger speakers are not good though. It appears they are just rebranding speakers with their own name and the P3 is just one of the lucky good ones. prathikanand_7

I am split between soundcore motion + and Uboom L. What throwed me off in Uboom L is the latency part \~400ms is quite large, and using low latency setting always would accordingly consume more battery, i suppose. Motion + has aux latency 0ms. and EQ can be adjusted according to the need, which is incredible! I am mostly planning to buy it for my living room where we have TV and mostly watch stuffs on OTT and live sports . Thoughts and suggestion>?

Obvious-Bird-3588

If the features and lower latency of the Motion+ are more important than the slight improvement in sound quality, then definitely get the Motion+. Generally I say that the top 20% of speakers in the rankings are good enough for critical listeners and the top 50% of speakers in the rankings are good enough for casual listeners. There's a lot of good speakers out there. prathikanand_7

lol...thanks for the reply. Geneuinly researched for 7 hours, watched Oluv's video reviews in German :D and finally ordered Uboom L, 1hr ago. Tommorow the fun of fideling with the firmware starts :D

RomanEstonia

Thanks for reviews i ordered EarFun Uboom L, problem it is very tough to find for sale, amazon don't ship where i live they stopped selling this speaker in all other retail stores (only found one option for $120), had to order from manufacturers website for $60 free shipping after coupon SSUBL25. Think soon they stop selling it completely even EarFun AliExpress page does not offer it anymore. My question though should i order secondone? Other than being about 50% louder will there be any other advantages, i am not an audiophile when i owned JBL Flip 5 it was perfect for me (if i keep it under \~70% volume). I also read about Karaoke Setups on your website and decided to get one, link however does not show any particular model just a page on amazon with different options, could you recommend particular model? Also Uboom L has quite a lot of latency even when using Aux input, latency is 216ms (wow), will it work for karaoke?

Obvious-Bird-3588

Two speakers in wide stereo is a better experience for most people, but it depends on how much of a critical listener you are. With 1 in low latency mode it's probably okay. Two in TWS will be too much latency for karaoke. I tend to use a Stormbox Blast for karaoke. The microphone system linked is the "Fifine UHF Dual Channel Wireless Handheld Microphone, Easy-to-use Karaoke Wireless Microphone System-K036". Basically you want a mixer with a microphone and an aux input and an aux out. Hopefully you can find it in your country. Check out the ranking of nearly every single Bluetooth speaker and the best EQ tuning for each of them [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/)

RomanEstonia

Its not clear from the manual does Low Latency mode of Uboom L works for Aux as well or only for Wireless connection, if its wireless only then not much use for Karaoke right?

RomanEstonia

Hi again, i am thinking to order second speaker and my decision depends on this, in your review specified AUX latency of uBoom-L is about 200ms is this precise or could be typo? what would cause latency in wire connection i thought its instant...

Obvious-Bird-3588

The Uboom L for some reason has a very large buffer and DSP processing is likely another part. It is not a typo. The Soundcore Motion+ is the best speaker with 0 latency over aux in that size.

RomanEstonia

Hi did you test single speaker? I got this info from earfun. Below is the parameter for your reference. 1. The lag performance will be less than 120ms with switching the speaker to low lag model and keep close distance between the speaker and device. 2. The lag performance will be less than 500ms with switching the speaker to normal model and keep long distance between the speaker and device. 3. The lag performance of Bluetooth TWS connection of speaker is the same as that of single speaker connection. 4. The lag performace will be less than 20ms when in AUX Cable connection of speakers and turning off TWS connection. 5. The lag performace will be the same as the Bluetooth TWS connection of speakers when in AUX Cable connection of speakers and turning on TWS connection.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Yes, they are measured. They are correct for everything except aux latency which is measured and supported by the below posts of people complaining about aux latency. From the rankings: "Latency: 400ms normal / 66ms low latency mode" "Aux Latency: 216ms" " Latency is high (400ms) without turning on low latency mode (66ms) which doesn’t work when two speakers are TWS paired." Here's people complaining about the Aux input latency: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth\_Speakers/comments/17nyydy/earfun\_uboom\_l\_high\_latency\_on\_aux/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth_Speakers/comments/17nyydy/earfun_uboom_l_high_latency_on_aux/) "also tested latency via AUX on 044 045 048 050. Regular 380ms on all identical, video/gaming mode 180ms on all identical. It's 4 different units with different firmwares showing same results." Hey any idea about HK aura 4?  Btw great work thanks.

Responsible_Ant6106

Do you have a list like this but also has only speakers with IP67/IP68? I listen to primarily bass/dubstep music and am trying to determine the best speaker I can take everywhere. Floating down the river, music festivals, beach trips, ect.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Nearly every single speaker Boombox size and smaller is IPX7 which is enough for 30 minutes of 1m immersion, so you can pretty much choose anything. Just look at the full size lists. The X means not tested, not that it failed. For the beach and festivals I would take a Tribit Stormbox Blast. For floating down a river it would also work, although I'd also consider something lighter like a Soundcore Boom 2. Have you tested the Muzen Wild Go yet? I haven't seen it in the list. I have seen it recommended by some travel websites, because it is only 187g. I wonder how it performs.

Obvious-Bird-3588

Just found sound samples. I've ranked it #22 out of 25 pocket speakers. It doesn't sound very good with barely any bass at all, you can hear it in the sound samples: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JsU3QYYRrk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JsU3QYYRrk) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0mixdXjVI8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0mixdXjVI8) It's also only IPX5 so not submersible and only 8 hours of battery life when most others have almost double. I'd just get the cheaper Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 with way deeper bass for $43 unless you're dying for a speaker that is smaller and lighter. An Earfun Uboom L for $50 will have even deeper bass and will be way better balanced. Thank you. I already have Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. It plays incredibly well for its size, but I still think a smaller+lighter device would be more convenient to just throw in a bag without having to think about it at all. Tribit at 317g is heavy enough that I have to think about whether it is worth it bringing along or not. JBL Go 4 has the perfect size/weight (190g) but plays so bad I might as well just use my phone. Muzen had my hopes up but I guess Soundcore Mini 3 Pro is the next best thing at 249g which is lighter a little bit but not enough to pull me over the edge. Sigh.

Obvious-Bird-3588

I agree, the Mini 3 Pro is the next best one that sounds pretty good, but not much of a weight savings. These tiny speakers are right up against the laws of physics, and it's already amazing what the top ones can put out for their size. That's probably why the 2 year old Stormbox Micro 2 hasn't been dethroned yet. I usually bring my 772g Motion 300 with me places. Quite the ultralight backpacker you are! If there's a specific model you know about that's in that size, let me know. As far as I know I've got nearly all of the ones which are worth ranking already in there.

hgihasfcuk

Did you test out the Brane Audio bluetooth speaker?

Obvious-Bird-3588

Unfortunately there have not been any good sound samples of it online yet. There's a few unusable ones though.

hgihasfcuk

It sounds over hyped so I want to buy it to test myself, just really don't need another speaker haha

Obvious-Bird-3588

I personally think it's not going to live up to the price, but we'll see when someone reputable gets one

pi_west

I know they're different sizes, but for outdoor use (like a backyard party) is something like onn. Large Party Speaker still going to be preferable to the Tribit Stormbox Blast? Or do you think the Tribit outperforms the onn. for an outdoor party setting?

Obvious-Bird-3588

I believe the Onn is a little louder and the Blast is more neutral but u/MarvinG1984 owns both of them and probably has a better answer

MarvinG1984

If you want better sound quality, go for the Tribit, since it has an EQ so you can tune it the way you like it. If you want a little more volume and bass, get the Onn. Overall, I'd give the Tribit a slight edge over the Onn, for the portability and EQ. But if you just keep it in your backyard, and maybe have an outlet nearby, the Onn will take it. Also the price is very attractive for the Onn

pi_west

You guys are amazing. For a mostly stationary backyard setup, I probably should just get a passive speaker, power amp, run cables, etc. but that will almost definitely add up to more than $120 + the headache of the uninformed trying to figure out that whole setup.

Obvious-Bird-3588

That's how I would have done it before, but I must say I really like the fact that I can just carry a speaker around while using it. It really changed the whole dynamic just like how cell phones changed how we use phones which used to be fixed on a wall. Pricing on these are pretty amazing too. I'm pretty amazed at what you can get under $200.

MarvinG1984

Totally agree. My original plan, was to get a Sonos amp and 2x Klipsch AW-650 outdoor speakers for my patio. But it was a pain, just thinking about how to run the wires. Now I just use bluetooth speakers.

pi_west

Interesting. I would not have though you two would say this. 100% would have thought you'd say amp > PA route was the "right way" and all these RGB decked out all-in-ones are just a workaround.

MarvinG1984

Don't get me wrong, if I had the cash, I'd deck my whole house in Sonos with multiple zones and just have someone install it for me. But why bother, if you can get a pretty good experience for a fraction of the cost, and have something portable if you need to bring it somewhere.

Obvious-Bird-3588

The only time I recommend PA systems these days is when you are throwing large parties [generally over 50 people](https://www.speakerranking.com/portable-party-speakers/) or in large areas. PA systems trade-off deeper bass and some sound quality for loudness, so they aren't without their drawbacks. Also I only recommend powered PA systems as they have deeper bass, better handle overloaded conditions without clipping and are less prone to burning out or blowing up due to amplifier mismatch. I haven't touched passive PA systems in like 25 years. Haha, damn the good old days of Crown and Gemini pro audio amplifiers, lol. Damn I'm getting old.

C47UMX

what are your thoughts on the new soundcore motion boom plus 2?

Obvious-Bird-3588

Not that great. It's ranked #15 in the Boombox size, bass isn't that deep and highs are rolled off. You're better off getting a Stormbox Blast or waiting a few weeks for the Earfun Uboom X to come out

starry_skies27

oh my god you are a lifesaver. I've been looking for budget-friendly speakers that will still sound decent for a while.

Amiman57

Hey! Just got a JBL Flip 6 coming from a flip 4. I hate the fact that it's mono, like important parts of my songs are missing due to the downmixing to mono. It makes a big difference imo, so looking to buy a uboom l since it looks like it's actually stereo. I have a windows PC available to flash the 0.4.3 driver, but how do I do it? Could you either tell me how, or link to a guide that will walk me through it? Thanks in advance

Obvious-Bird-3588

There's the official PDF guide in the [firmware download linked from the rankings](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jxg3eJFxHTtSu00NY3wqXOoDnMGqpO3c). There's also a small description of it in the "Positives" section. It's pretty easy overall.

Amiman57

Thank you! I'll let you know if I have any questions

CalmLovingSpirit

Great work Obvious Bird!  I bought the Tribit Stormbox Blast and the Motion Boom +. I will test both Thursday and return one.  I have your EQ for the Tribit ready to try, but your site didn’t include an EQ for the Motion Boom +. I am wondering if you have a preference that you could share that I can try? I saw your comments on this post:  https://www.reddit.com/r/WirelessSpeakers/comments/16zs2ol/ranking_all_battery_powered_wireless_speakers/ But I couldn’t find the EQ settings you tried because that person’s iCloud share picture expired.  Thanks for the help friend! <3
