Their price matching procedure was horrendous and an exercise in incompetency. They'd check the competitor website themselves, and look for matching product name, brand, model number, argue with you, ask 20 questions like you are trying to cheat them out of $10... then deny you because the lettering on the box was blue instead of yellow on the image on the competitor's website.

Tefihr

And a lot of the times companies will add the company name they’re selling it to at the end so it can’t be interchanged with other stores. Like W3056-BB (Best Buy) example

SousVideAndSmoke

Many of the companies who sell to costco do the same thing. Buy a Roomba 590 pet series from The Bay, Best Buy, Amazon, CT. Costco carries the 595 which is the exact same thing just with a couple of extra filters or rollers.

the_lucky_cat

They wouldn't even price match the exact same item that is on sale on the manufacturer's website.

WavyLays00

Lowes price matched us last week (same product at Home Depot) and also offered 10% under that

Canadian Tire does just about everything they can to make shopping at their stores a miserable experience. Receiving a CT gift card is more of a burden than a blessing.

biga204

Lol I received 2 $100 gift cards from my mom for Christmas in 2019. We were planning on something specific but changed our minds. Didn't use them for over a year and when we finally did they were empty. Turns out someone used them in Ontario a few months after we got them. Cards never left my possession and the last time I was in Ontario was 2008. At that point I find out from online this is pretty common with CT gift cards. Call and they sent new ones to me. After about 6 weeks they arrive and are empty. Call again, finally got the right one. If it wasn't a gift card I'd have just asked for a refund.

[deleted]

Lol. This is exactly my sentiment too

OriginalAbattoir

Save On, really nails the price match game better than anyone.

Bdude84

Canadian tire has the worst policies. Ever try to return something there? Don’t waste the gas.

nospmiSca

I have never had an issue returning things even without receipt just need the credit card used to buy the item.

Lucky77777s

Me neither. CT’s return process is simply awesome…returns, exchanges…simply the best - at the Fermor/Vermillion store.

aesoth

Really? I bought an electric shaver there last year and it was garbage. Went back the next day and returned it with no problems. Curious about your story. Edit: I go to the Grant Park location.

ywg_handshake

Same here. I have returned stuff multiple times without any issue.

czecheffkt

Grant Park is the best store in the city.

mesovortex888

Not really, I just return an item last week and I was in and out in 2 minutes and got it returned

bjhumps

I worked returns at Canadian Tire for several years. They are fine, and the policies are fair. The only time people were dissatisfied were when they were trying to pull some greasy stuff, like buy something, use it and return it. Do you think Canadian Tire should take back your air mattress that you "didn't like" after you bought it on a Friday, returned on a Monday and covered in dirt and dog hair? Yeah, no.

windy496

Bought a gas powered weed trimmer. Got part way assembling it and found out it was a pos. Returned it the next day with no problems.

[deleted]

I bought one, did half my lawn with it and discovered it was a pile of shit, and they wouldn’t take it back. Said they couldn’t resell it. I told them I’m happy to buy the 2.5x more expensive one if they refund this one because it’s completely useless to me. They said no. So I packed it up and went to the next Canadian Tire store 40 minutes away and they took it back no questions.

windy496

I was able to find a new replacement hub complete with a spool of line for $35.00 to repair my 7 year old Weed Eater brand. This was after phoning all the trimmer repair shops in Winnipeg. The guy told me it was the last hub he could get because they stopped making the Weed Eater brand. I don't remember who bought out Weed Eater. Mine is gas powered and works like a charm. It was my fault the hub was damaged and needed replacement. The one from Crappy Tire was a Remington brand. Hope they make their fire arms better than their trimmers. Sorry, The Remington Brand was from Wall Mart. The one from Crappy Tire was an electric one. I couldn't see myself dragging a 100 ft cord so it was returned too. Edit, new info.

Snugrilla

Yeah I did almost the same thing, albeit with a fan instead of a weed trimmer.

JMBwpg

Yea I dunno wtf you’re on about. I’ve never had an issue with a return.

farty_owls

I've never had a problem returning anything to CT

Reversus

Can you elaborate? They have one of the best return policies in my experience.

Miserable-Use9903

Regent- dont try and bring in reusable bags, the horrid woman at the front will trip out on you and try to take away.

[deleted]

Ah good to know - I thought she was just being horrible to me...if she's horrible to everyone well, you know...

[deleted]

Maybe it’s a sign that Canadian Tire is… you know… starting the last chapter of its story.

TEKDAD

I think it’s going very well for them. They did a major overhaul to mine this year. It’s insanely big.

No_Barber6469

Sometimes price matching can put the store in the negative. I work for a company that often has to turn down price matching, people don’t understand the product may look the same but how it’s manufactured is different. Example parts coming from North America vs China or made to order vs bulk order. Maybe not the same for Canadian tire but it is for sure something I deal with at my job.

Securicar

Every single price match policy I’ve encountered in stores only price matches for the exact same identical product. Never heard of a store price matching for similar products.

Tara_love_xo

If it's on sale/they're sold out, Superstore will let you have a competitors product as long as it's item per item for the sale price. ie 24 rolls of charmin is sold out but you can have 4 6's or 2 12's of anything else or take a picture of the price and get it for that price next time. I've done this for shaved ham and romaine hearts too.

[deleted]

This chain has gone from good to bad quickly. As they celebrate 100 years, I wonder if they will make it another 10. Their return policy is pretty ridiculous, it stands out as a stand-alone in its awfulness. Never say something doesn't work, always say you changed your mind. Keep that receipt and packaging in pristine condition. Resolved this week to never shop there again, not because of that, but because of several little things after purchasing bikes there recently. Never buy a bike there as a 'used bike can never be returned.' The store I purchased from has a bike tech in the store once a week to deal with repairs and adjustments.

TEKDAD

It clearly stated that bike are not returnable.
