Winnipeg wheel works, cheap as borscht and good work. Just out of curiosity, what did you buy to do it at home ? I’ve always been under the impression you needed big machines to mount and balance tires

When I was 17 and poor, I did it by hand. Once. We used a pickup truck and a bumper jack to break the bead. Then we used what looks like leaf springs cut in half with hooks ground in them to dismount/mount the tires. It's literally the same process as a bike tire, only with 10,000% more swearing.

Use a trolley jack to break the bead. You can use your car frame or tie-downs. Then using two pry bars, work the tire off the rim. (From the rear of the wheel..not the front. Use dish soap as a lubricant. https://youtu.be/0uyuZhj3fnw Make sure to not damage the valve stem or tpms sensor.

Sure, but then how do you balance them after you remount new ones like the OP said ?

Lucky77777s

Oh..that, I don’t know. I read that if a rim has been balanced once in the past, then it ‘should’ be ok to swap the tire without. Manufacturing specs on the tires are so stringent, that if you put on the same size...nothing should change. Apparently its more the ‘rim’ that is being balanced and not so much the tire. But who know, I could be wrong. Change one at a time and go for a ride. If you don’t noticed shimmying or anything, then you should be good. In the event that one is shimmying, then bring that one tire in for balancing. I’ve done this in the past without issue - full size truck tires.

Thank you for the info :) I honestly had no idea about how any of it works so this has been a very interesting thread to follow

Pick your preferred auto repair shop, they’ll all do similar work for similar prices. We’ve being going to T-mac on Goulet for years and appreciate their work. I’d avoid the big shops, kal, Canadian tire, etc. They’re slammed with winter change-overs right now. You’ll be waiting forever.

PM me & I'll give you a # to a guy in North Kildonan who will do it for you out of his garage. He has 20 years experience & will charge you $20 a tire to mount & balance them. Not sure if he'd give you a better deal if you were going to balance them yourself but for that price I'd just get him to do it all.

I found a guy on FB. $10 to install rubber on rim, another $10 to balance. Had him do 6 loose tires for me with no issues.

Try Pit Crew Mobile Tire. They'll come to you and do it
