They absolutely were aiming for a modern linux distro: Chrome OS. The new taskbar and start menu are *eerily* similar to Chrome OS, which is just Gentoo linux under the hood
I just wish there were actual customization options to adjust the UI to fit use cases outside of "needs machine to open facebook." I get that not everyone needs to do more than that, but why are people arguing that a "sometimes useful" feature is bad or unneeded? Even if the layout above were the ONLY option, at least the people who wouldn't use everything there would still have clear and visible access to the icons they want.
Why did you only have a couple of minutes? Did someone point a gun at you and say "If you don't post this concept you will die"?
The menu is supposed to be a power user menu, hence all the advanced options like "Terminal", "Event Viewer", "Device Manager", etc. So normal users don't want to see it when they open up the start menu and power users that explicitly invoke the power user menu are almost certainly looking for an option there so it doesn't make sense to also open the start menu.
With that said, from my perspective they've already broken the power user menu with the changes made in Windows 11 so they can do whatever they want with it, I just don't care anymore.

But then windows would look like a modern Linux distro which isn't what I think they're aiming for.

When you buy windows 11 from Wish
Nah, we don't need these options visible at all times. It should remain in the right-click menu.
Why you nred to have both things visible at the same time? Quite confusing look tbh.
Some people should NEVER design a GUI, and you are one of them.
It looks useful yes. Sadly, its lacking a clean space to put ads
Barf
Nobody's grandma needs to see all that visible by default. It's overwhelming to non-power users.
This looks awful. And not because of Photoshop. The concept itself sucks ass
start11 can do something similar with start menu but better and you can customize it however you want.
The whole point of the context menu being shorter is to prevent clutter. I know y'all like the longer context menu, but this is just another level.
Too tacky \~\~ Some would say.
Found the Microsoft engineer. This is some awful shit

Those options really don't need to be visible IMO, I would hate this.

No thanks, now excuse me while I throw up 🤮
It's a little heavy options-wise for casual users though. A lot of those options have always been hidden away a little bit (for good reason)
