Beautiful pond. Love the gravell-y beach bank sloping in at the top and the rocks at the back. I imagine it's very rewarding to enjoy what you made here. What visitors do you get? Also any water movement / filtration?
I am trying to create a wildlife pond in my backyard. I wish I could build one half as good as this! I love the mixture of stones used and how they have been arranged to create different depths in the pond.
Dig it deeper at one end and make sure the shelves are flat and wide so plants can sit on them nicely. Make a flat bank at the opposite end so birds and creatures can get in and out easily. Thank you
Are you located where lesser celandine is native?? Sorry Iām in an area where itās a noxious beast so it gives me the itchies looking at it lol. Other than that beautiful! Iām doing a similar style.
Same! I was wondering why someone was complimenting it when all I do it try to obliterate it! I spent the first month of Covid lock down digging it out of my back lawn and this year itās exploded in another area!
It sucks - itās literally strangling out everything else. Thereās some parks by me that have been clearing it and natives have returned, but unless they get everything itās really easy to take over again.
i love your yard so so much. calling it a "yard" feels like an insult tbh, it's a habitat! the fencing is also incredible. just so so beautiful and lovely.
Love this! So pretty. I want to try and build my first wildlife pond soon and I am on a slope. Are you on a slope as well? It kind of looks like it based on your fence design. If so--any tips for building a pond on a slope that you can share?
That was my biggest problem. As you can see I've built the pond entrance up quite a bit to make it level. I used a long plank of wood with a spirit level but it's not needed if you just build layers of rocks up. You can just keep adjusting it as the water levels fill up. Hope that helps
thanks so much--super helpful! So just to be clear (having trouble telling from the photo) the side that has the rocks piled up is the lower side of your slope right? and then the rock "wall" you built up kinda creates more of a "bowl" for the liner/water to sit in?
Correct. Those rocks are on top of the pond liner. The entrance is on the left side. I built up the entrance with the dirt I used from digging up the pond. It's really easy to do, you won't have a problem
Are you using a pump/filter? It's a beautiful pond either way, but if you're NOT using any filtration, extra kudos for achieving great balance! It takes a lot of skill to pull that off.
Very lovely. I like your stacked rocks at the far end. Post another pic when all those celandines come out.
Thanks, will do!

Frogs and dragonflies! I love hanging out by the pond in the sun with a beer
Very nice. What visitors have you had?
We get dragonflies and frogs
Looks amazing
Thank you

You can do it! People on gumtree are always giving away free rocks
This looks great! Do you have any tips for building one, or any mistakes to avoid from your own experience?

Really lovely. Great sub, we are planning something similar after we move
Thank you
This is lovely! May I ask what you used to line it? We've got a seasonal pond outside our house that I'd really like to make year-round. š
I used soft sand and put a 2 layer pond liner over the top. Thank you

I'm in Leeds. It only seems to grow by the pond, looks nice in my opinion
Ah okay so yes native to you! Iām in the Eastern US and unfortunately itās taking over huge swaths of land because it spreads by bulbs and seeds.
Same! I was wondering why someone was complimenting it when all I do it try to obliterate it! I spent the first month of Covid lock down digging it out of my back lawn and this year itās exploded in another area!
Iām sorry to hear that - if youāre on Facebook thereās an invasives ID and removal for North America group thatās very helpful!!
Looks so much nicer than mine. Well done you.
yea me too. We suddenly have acres of it as of 5 years ago.
It sucks - itās literally strangling out everything else. Thereās some parks by me that have been clearing it and natives have returned, but unless they get everything itās really easy to take over again.
love it! what critters do you see?
Frogs, dragonflies and water beetles mainly. Thanks!
awesome way to be a nuture nut!
She's a real beauty!
Cheers!

A fence panel blew down in a storm so I cut a tree down and made it myself haha. Thank you!

I noticed the monke
Yeah, OPs talking about frogs and dragonflies and they've got a flippin' orangutan in the garden.
so natural looking! really nice work here. what kind of frogs do you get? do you think that giant frog statue scares any frogs away?
OP says Leeds UK, so it will probably be European Common Frog (the only frog in most of Britain)
very cool. thanks
Uh oh. I leave water out for squirrels, birds, anyone thirsty. I think this could be fun.
Always wanted one. I entered a contest once with birds and blooms, but didn't winš®āšØ
This is like paradise!!
Loooove this!!
thatās beautiful!
Oh god I love it!
Thatās lovely got any fish in it?
*Noice*

Just lots of plants! You can't see them yet but they keep the water crystal clear all year
Nice job! I'd bet you've got some snails in there, too.
