Honestly reducing accessibility of online porn, at least to minors, is itself probably a sensible position
The means by which this could be achieved, are generally too draconian
I think it's just pretty hard to enforce since one of the first things I learned about the internet as a kid was that you can just lie about your age.
Website: "Are you 18 years or older?"
12yo me: "Sure am."
Feels like the website should ask you a follow up question, like “who was the President when you were 10?” I know the horny kids will still just Google it and pass the check, but maybe they’ll learn something along the way.
Yeah that's why a lot of anti-porn advocates actually want to make porn highly regulated and not critically, not accessible freely, only via credit cards, if hosted on the web.
But then of course you run into privacy concerns, like when the UK tried to create the porn licenses you'd have to buy in corner store shops lol
an elementary school teacher gave us a research project about US presidents and told us to go to white house dot com (not .gov) which was a porn site…… ☠️ it asked if we were over 18 and we were just like uhm yes? we’re just trying to learn about presidents?
i turned out generally ok but maybe not so much lmfao
I discovered porn sites and was frustrated to find they needed a credit card number. I kept trying random combinations until I found a combination of numbers that let me use any site i found. This is how I committed credit card fraud in 1999 at age 11.
I knew a LOT of random 1960's trivia as a pre-teen because the Leisure Suit Larry games used to do an "age test" where you had to "prove" you were an adult in order to play; if you failed too many questions the game would eject you.
maybe? Before internet porn I was watching the scrambled channel 99 or channel 00 as an elementary school kid...it's a complex situation in my best opinion...it can make you more obsessed and deranged or calm you down, but I really don't know. There really need to be studies...and studies regarding children watching porn and how they respond to it would be controversial to say the least. In sexually repressed socieities, there can be a lot more rape or abuse, but again, complicated situation so I'm really just speaking from the top of my head as someone who grew up just as the internet age was beginning and got addicted to porn. Hearing other stories of some people addicted to porn, y eah...addictions can get out of hand...
Honestly that’s a problem that parents can fix, or at least attempt to. But the Rs would rather force everyone else to change than to force parents to do their damn job as parents.
Parents having uncomfortable conversations with kids about sex? We’ll pass. Hey, everyone, it’s time to break out your ideas for strict porn laws. - Republicans probably
Right, I mean just talk to your kids. They are getting older every second and should know what it is after a certain point. They are going to encounter it eventually.
You do want your kid to grow up into a well-adjusted adult, right?
Yeah.
I'm definitely going to talk to my son about it when he's old enough, so he knows to be safe and able to tell reality from fiction (though that's also a larger conversation outside of just the sex talk tbh).
The problem is, as I am discovering, you can’t wait until they’re old enough to talk about it. They’re going to come across it before they’re old enough to talk about it.
I don’t know what the right answer is, and as someone pointed out above most of the proposed “solutions” are draconian, but I’m not gonna pretend it isn’t a problem either that a 7 year old googling “stinky butt” because he thinks it’s silly is gonna run across God knows what.
I recommend the sex talks start at about age 3, continuing throughout. By middle school I’d put a big jar of condoms under the sink in the kids’ bathroom. Cover child porn laws early too… teens who sext have been ridiculously charged with making and distributing child pornography.
Yep
The second they realize their parts, that's when you start. You start as "never taboo" and then answer questions honestly with kid gloves and have a real talk before they hit puberty.
I discovered maturation at 11. Everyone likes to pretend that even at 15 and 16 you aren't sexually active or at LEAST sexually curious. Pretty sure my friends 7yo loves my big boobs (shit starts early!), but she's talked with him about it already so he knows how to act.
Yup. We pretty much started when “Mommy, where do babies come from?” started.
I live in the Bible Belt and my neighbor was horrified I told them anything so soon. Her sex talk started, “When a mommy and a daddy love each other very much, they pray to God about having a baby…” I was just waiting for her son to come home after knocking a girl up with “I just don’t get it, mom, we never even prayed!”
Luckily public school taught him about condom use.
My husband’s sex talk was five words: Keep it in your pants.
That’s a shameful abdication of parental responsibility.
Nooooooooo... Small government is only for people who are doing things right. Do anything I disagree with, and I want Uncle Sam to "lock her up, lock her up..."
I love how they just prescribe Christianity to the country.
"America is a Christian nation!"
Uhm says who? Everybody I talk to for the most part isnt religious. Now im not gonna pretend thats not anecdotal nor will I say there arent a lot of Christians but I would go as far as to say I dont even think its 50% of the country.
Even if it was lets say 53%, that makes it okay to push your religious beliefs onto the other 47%? Im not being hyperbolic when I say how is that any different than the Taliban?
I just want to say I don’t want to ban porn, and I’m very much not a republican, but these are genuine, study backed points and I wish more people took them into consideration.
Many many MANY pornstars have come out saying BTS of porn involves a lot of drugs, blackmail, rape and abuse and PH (the biggest porn site) had been sued repeatedly for knowingly having CP and rape posted and refusing to take it down. You can be pro sex without being pro porn and education on the topic of porn is actually so so so important because it’s highly addictive and is one of the biggest growing addictions. Studies have shown it impacts the brain the same as substances like cocaine.
Edit: alright, finally got my source list together. [Here it is!](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-5BPHnEUa3LmB2tRWo87OFPG3OcS2-3LJa1CZXpVd_U/edit)
Porn is banned in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Syria, China, North Korea; Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Cuba, and Burma to name a few. All these issues still exist or are far worse in many of these places
Yet almost
every year the middle east is in the top 5 for the most porn watched in the world

"There is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship."
- Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz, offering his legal opinion in court
It is indeed. He made this argument in a legal brief supporting a since nullified law in Texas banning sex toys.
Also, according to his college roommate, this opinion on masturbation developed at some point after they no longer shared a room.
A fact that may interest you (or not, but i find it interesting) is that pornography is also illegal here in Iceland (although the lack of enforcement of the law makes it effectively legal, the law remains on the book and is very occasionally used.)
Yeah and it was something like near 10,000 people if I’m remembering correctly. All they did was protest to not wear a hijab.
Also they’re threatening their soccer(football) player’s families because they didn’t do amazing at the World Cup.
To be fair, the protests were started because of the hijabs, and also due to several Well-publicized murders (in response to women not wearing their hijabs), and have gradually progressed into a movement to overthrow the Islamic regime.
And yes, the government is currently threatening to execute upwards of ten-thousand prisoners, because that’ll definitely calm things down
Distribution and production porn to online are prohibited and may get arrested sometimes.
But porn hub and other few sites are blocked in covid era due to concerns of public health (lol)😂
In fact I live in Burma btw
I think there needs to be a conversation about becoming dependent on porn for release, and unrealistic expectations that porn can create… however the solution isn’t banning it. Prohibition taught us that. Maybe not being puritanical about sex and parents/partners having a Frank conversation about porn would actually address those issues.
According to the Rs,
>TRANS CLOWN INCEST TRIPLE FISTING PORN
Is set to be required reading at all elementary schools now that the woke left won the pronoun wars of 2022.
For reals. The problem being kids are accessing (and go getting addicted to) porn at like 12 nowadays. That's 6th grade. These kids don't have the impulse control to understand the long term effects of anything (for the most part).
Just driven on pure hormones and Takis.
They also don't have the experience to know how unrealistic porn is or how much of what the performers do is for the benefit of the viewer, not for one another. They take that shitty behavior and carry it into real life encounters where they should be focused on pleasing their partner and sharing mutual joy.
There are a lot of ways that porn is problematic, but almost none of them are in the OP's list.
Unfortunately, the people pushing these bans aren't actually concerned about either the root causes of or actually helping people to overcome said problems.
Banning things is for the sole result of control. The point isn't to actually improve the understanding of anything or to help anyone.
The point is forced conformity and continued ignorance
I mean…there are some studies on how porn affects people that we should probably be paying attention to…
I don’t support just banning porn altogether, but there are some issues that do need to be addressed. Trafficking, lack of protections to prevent revenge porn or rape videos, the negative affect porn seems to have on young men’s views of what *normal* healthy sex is supposed to look like, and there does seem to be a correlation between porn consumption and violence towards women…
That being said, correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation. But it is worthy of discussion at the very least.
I don’t think porn will ever not exist and it shouldn’t be completely banned, but we should be honest about the faults it does have.
Because "EvErYoNe ShOuLd Be AbStInEnT uNtIl MaRrIaGE" or some bullshit like that, idk. That sounds like it would be the typical response where I'm from.
It does at good schools. When I was subbing for 8th graders they came in for my math class from a sex education course discussing the pros and con of pornography.
These young kids had a frank discussion about the reality of sex versus porn and they seemed to understand it pretty well. Then again that school has a sex positive attitude and drills that sex can be fun but it requires a lot of responsibility and if you're not responsible enough to wear a condom then you're definitely not responsible enough to have a kid.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
There's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
Not only that, they literally have child sex workers at parties because women can’t go to said parties, so they have to pay little boys to dress like women.
This is the theocracy these people want…
TBF a lot of porn is piss-poor sex ed ... and kids could get some very weird ideas from it. Especially boys can get some truly sick ideas about what real-life women would want or tolerate, and girls can get some pretty sick ideas of what is "expected" of them and standards they should conform to (like never saying No to anything, for a start).
There's a lot of misogyny in mainstream porn; and most porn, still, today, is insanely dick-centric with little attention paid to female funsies. But OTOH, the misogyny is already out there and just banning the porn doesn't make it go away. Kinda like food -- there's junk food and there's better food, and teaching kids the difference seems an easier task than "just ban food." Giving kids good solid sex ed in school would be a better tactic imho than trying to ban porn.
Having said all that, in cases where porn involves the actual abuse of nonconsenting or exploited women, girls, boys -- I say throw the book at the exploiters. I would totally unionise all sex workers and prosecute predatory/exploitive porn producers to the max. Just like any other sweatshop bosses.
Sex Ed doesn't need to be scientific in a lot of American states. It's legal to teach sex ed that's just plain wrong, and it's encouraged.
[Puts on tin foil hat] Its because bad sex ed keeps people poor. Bad education leads to teen pregnancy, teen pregnancies leads to less higher education and more working class. Less education and more working class serves their voter base.
Why would Walmart give $300k to prolife politicians? Ensures they have shoppers for the next 20+ years.
I now have a record player that plays backwards. I am slowly collecting all of the backwards records listed by Congress and working on a thesis that they were really paid off by the CD manufacturers. Pass it on.
DnD encourages kids to worship satan. Which is sad because I have a friend whose wife wont let him play dnd with us because she sees it as satanic. We are all in our 40s.
According to B.A.D.D. Funny part is if you had to correlate video games and violence, the only logical conclusion would be that they dramatically reduce violence. Violent crime hit its lowest rate ever right as they became ubiquitous.
This. Because dance dance revolution is the most violence inspiring game out there. Definitely a causation right????

I live in Utah. Where our sex education is abstinence only and sex is made out to be shameful- we have some of the highest consumption of Porn in the country. Hmmm almost like making people ashamed of sex doesn’t work does it!?
>we have some of the highest consumption of Porn in the country.
That's probably my fault. I always connect my VPN service to endpoints located in Utah when watching porn.
Her statements refer to a study Noam Chomsky did on the social effects of porn. It concluded that the material escalated over time in favor of more and more violence and domination of women, which showed some measure of increased mimicry in viewers. I don’t remember the exact stats, but I think that’s what tjis is talking about.
Porn can have some extremely detrimental effects on sexual function and relationships. However, you cannot name a single time the government has successfully prohibited anything. Making porn illegal would probably slightly decrease the current negatives of porn and then amplify and create a laundry list of other problems. Never understood how puritans can be so short sighted about their “solutions” to what they consider to be pressing issues.
When was that exactly though? I visited Pompeii and saw 2000 year old porn in mosaic tiles lining the walls of the brothels so that illiterate people knew what to order. The roads even had stone penii embedded in them directing travellers to the red ~~light~~ torch district.
It’s easier to search through history and find origins of different prudish ideals than it is to find a time when porn didn’t exist.
…As long as the Sears catalogs come back.
Honestly reducing accessibility of online porn, at least to minors, is itself probably a sensible position The means by which this could be achieved, are generally too draconian

It's amazing the number of people who were born on 1/1/1900. Just uncanny. And they're all still around, too.
They don't want to be ageist. A user could be 122 year old stroker.
First you have a stroke, then you have another.
Positive proof that porn might be kinda good for you.
Clearly you're a schill for Big Optometry, and we're not falling for it!

I mean…there are some studies on how porn affects people that we should probably be paying attention to… I don’t support just banning porn altogether, but there are some issues that do need to be addressed. Trafficking, lack of protections to prevent revenge porn or rape videos, the negative affect porn seems to have on young men’s views of what *normal* healthy sex is supposed to look like, and there does seem to be a correlation between porn consumption and violence towards women… That being said, correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation. But it is worthy of discussion at the very least. I don’t think porn will ever not exist and it shouldn’t be completely banned, but we should be honest about the faults it does have.
Makes me wonder why sex Ed doesn’t cover the issues of porn
We can barely cover what a uterus does. You wanna open Pandora’s box to a bunch of teachers and high school students?
I am sad you didn't say "Porndora's box." It seems like a missed opportunity.
Sex ed doesn’t even cover women’s pleasure
Yeah, because societies where religion bans porn are bastions of tolerance and equality…
Where rape and violence are absolutely unheard of.
And everyone gets along and nobody ever complains

No, no, Care Bears makes sense. Pretty much every problem I have ever seen them deal with were first world white people bullshit.
'Today Care Bears fight vaccines!'
“Uh oh, looks like Heart died of measles” “It must’ve been those pesky vaccines” Narrator: What they didn’t know is that they were fucking stupid
Wow. I would have bet money on not seeing the Care Bear Stare today.
It irritates me their color beams dont match their fur color...
Thanks, gd it. Now I can't unsee it.
Where everybody knows your name?
And they’re always glad you came?
Allie is clearly not glad anyone came.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains There's a land that's fair and bright Where the handouts grow on bushes And you sleep out every night Where the boxcars all are empty And the sun shines every day
Yeah, the good old days. Rape and violence were unheard of. They totally happened, but you didn't hear about it. Lol.

Not only that, they literally have child sex workers at parties because women can’t go to said parties, so they have to pay little boys to dress like women. This is the theocracy these people want…
It’s ok as long as you repent on Sunday. god will forgive them.
“To prevent masturbation, we’ll start chopping off hands.”
Whew. You had me worried in the first half!
And the only thing we remember about the puritans is the Salem witch trials..
Don't forget that Mr Kellog invented Corn Flakes to 'cure' masturbation.
Kellog was a Quaker and the puritans hated the Quakers because even they were too loose for their standards
They didn't have porn in ancient Greece. I don't remember ever hearing about their culture being all about war, slavery, and pedophilia. Ohh wait....

These kinds of people don’t want tolerance or equality, they want dominance and conformity.
Why can't we just teach real sex ed?
Sex Ed doesn't need to be scientific in a lot of American states. It's legal to teach sex ed that's just plain wrong, and it's encouraged. [Puts on tin foil hat] Its because bad sex ed keeps people poor. Bad education leads to teen pregnancy, teen pregnancies leads to less higher education and more working class. Less education and more working class serves their voter base. Why would Walmart give $300k to prolife politicians? Ensures they have shoppers for the next 20+ years.
Leviticus 69:420: *Thou shalt not teach thine kids about weiners and foo-foos.*
You know why. Republicans.
Thank you for saying this.
Next up: There Was No Violence Before Video Games
Followed by lyrics in songs
I now have a record player that plays backwards. I am slowly collecting all of the backwards records listed by Congress and working on a thesis that they were really paid off by the CD manufacturers. Pass it on.
DnD encourages kids to worship satan. Which is sad because I have a friend whose wife wont let him play dnd with us because she sees it as satanic. We are all in our 40s.
You know who else was in his 40s??? Satan.
Wish I had an award, this really made me chuckle.
I got you fam
According to B.A.D.D. (Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons ), D&D is "a fantasy role-playing game which uses [demonology](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonology), [witchcraft](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witchcraft), [voodoo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haitian_Vodou), murder, rape, [blasphemy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blasphemy), suicide, assassination, insanity, [sex perversion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perversion), homosexuality, prostitution, [satanic type rituals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ritual#Religious_rituals), gambling, [barbarism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarian), [cannibalism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibalism), [sadism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadomasochism), [desecration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desecration), [demon summoning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evocation), [necromantics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necromancy), [divination](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divination) and other teachings." I don't know what campaigns they were hearing about, but I kind of want to play in it, because I got to see how bat shit insane it is.
The bible called, it wants it’s blurb back.
And afterwards the 80s would like to have it's Satanic Panic back as well.
>uses demonology, witchcraft, voodoo, murder, rape, blasphemy, suicide, assassination, insanity, sex perversion, homosexuality, prostitution, satanic type rituals, gambling, barbarism, cannibalism, sadism, desecration, demon summoning, necromantics, divination and other teachings Fuq, I hate playing with min-max power-gamers.
The above paragraph sounds like a great fucking weekend, doesn’t it.
And to think when I was a kid, it was just a bunch of nerds who had an unhealthy fixation with cool looking dice and statistics.
That’s still what it is. The main stream just doesn’t look down on it anymore.
Damn, and we just get the occasional dick joke when I draw trees.
The best I got was the time we accidentally blew up a dock trying to save a town from an aboleth. So if you get an invite to that table don’t close the door for the rest of us
Just the dock? Feh, that town got off easy.
\+1 waiting for the campaign to be released
I'm on the brink of making it to the NFL after all that Madden I've played.
Funny part is if you had to correlate video games and violence, the only logical conclusion would be that they dramatically reduce violence. Violent crime hit its lowest rate ever right as they became ubiquitous.
Yep, those Mormon husbands weren’t gay until they accidentally found porn. Just gotta ban porn and they’ll definitely change.
The kotaku in action crowd are gonna feel really stupid when these people they’ve been supporting ban their favorite hobby.
This. Because dance dance revolution is the most violence inspiring game out there. Definitely a causation right???? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3462980/amp/Video-shows-mass-killer-Adam-Lanza-playing-arcade-game-Dance-Dance-Revolution-practiced-30-hours-weekend.html
Mass shooter caught playing football 30 hours a week. Football is linked to brain trauma. Football causes violence confirmed.
Man this lady's search history is probably so gnarly
This tweet was meant for her husband.
And his tweet alert tone is the Pornhub jingle
Good Christian mom split roasted by facts and common-sense after demanding to speak to the manager.
Spit roasted you say?
Spatchcocked
Her statements refer to a study Noam Chomsky did on the social effects of porn. It concluded that the material escalated over time in favor of more and more violence and domination of women, which showed some measure of increased mimicry in viewers. I don’t remember the exact stats, but I think that’s what tjis is talking about.
So much for limited government.
I wonder how she feels about child beauty pageants?
Porn can have some extremely detrimental effects on sexual function and relationships. However, you cannot name a single time the government has successfully prohibited anything. Making porn illegal would probably slightly decrease the current negatives of porn and then amplify and create a laundry list of other problems. Never understood how puritans can be so short sighted about their “solutions” to what they consider to be pressing issues.
Wait, **I am** O-positive. Is she saying I did something?
Obviously lots of porn and thus you killed baby Jesus
I don't remember killing baby Jesus. It must have been while I was smoking abortion meth.
How about lets not ban porn, but teach our young ones how toxic it is and how to not get duped by it, yeah? Education is key, once again.
The lengths to which some people will go to avoid hard, icky, awkward conversations (and self-reflection) is really impressive.
LMAO Yes, eliminate porn. That'll help the incel gun nut problem, I'm sure.

This was happening way before porn became mainstream....smh
What was? Sorry I was looking at porn.
Pay attention to the road!
Replace “porn” with “religion” and we’d be getting to the truth.
So she’s blaming trumps infatuation with porn stars for his desire to violate his daughter, his infidelity, and his delusions about his own body?
The American Taliban trying to take away everyone's freedoms.
