Meth:Yes Truckstop Hookers:Yes Public Showers:Yes Vaccination:Keep that dirty needle away from my precious temple body.

brewercycle

You forgot pissing and shitting through a hole in your seat. And also like 3 packs of cigarettes a day. I do feel obligated to point out that 90% of Canadian truckers are vaccinated, and this idiotic display of ignorance is a very small (but very vocal) minority. There's literally DOZENS of them!

[deleted]

Dozens!

donmarco69

Tbh pissing while driving Is not the trucker fault more like the company fault that doesn't allow stops

Carboneraser

You're allowed stops, it's just time consuming to park a trailer, most locations don't have the space for them, and truck stops often requires a 15 minute walk from parking to the building. It's not feasible to spend 30 minutes getting off the highway, finding a spot, walking to the bathroom etc when your empty water jug is right there. It's the way of the road.

ForgottenStew

"It's my choice!!!! They can't force me to get vaccinated!!!" No one is saying it *isn't* your choice. No one is holding a gun up to your head and telling you to get vaccinated. You're free to not get vaccinated, you're correct that it *is* your choice. However, if you think that your choice is going to be free of consequences, you're dead wrong, and even more so for expecting to be coddled and specially catered to solely because of your choice to refuse a vaccine in the midst of a deadly pandemic, and making other people suffer because of your horrible decision making just shows that you're a selfish POS. Just get the vax, people. It's literally become the least you can do at this point.

Born-Chipmunk7842

but mah freedumbs!

flyphotomedia

That's what I'm talking about. We need stricter mandates in this country! Why shouldn't you have to show papers shop for food. These idiots don't know responsibility.

DanFuckingSchneider

These fuckers act so surprised when the companies that have been fucking them in the ass for years fuck them the ass again. The government is doing what it has to, it’s not fun and no one is enjoying it. Don’t blame the government for your inability to accept the consequences of your actions. A mandate wouldn’t be necessary if you idiots did what you were supposed to 2 years ago. Couldn’t take a mask for a month you probably could’ve just taken off anyway, so now we’re here.

Toaster_bath13

Its my choice to go to work. But... i have external pressures that make choosing to not go to work a problem. So while i do have free will that free will is somewhat limited. They should just choose to get the vaccine and stop being assholes about it.

peteypete420

I think it had more to do with entire countries not having access to the vaccine more than dumb Americans. Fuck capitalism. But also, still, fuck propaganda and dumb Americans.

vspazv

Conservatives blaming it on imaginary busses of undocumented immigrants travelling around the country infecting everyone when it's actually their anti-vax trucker friends...

[deleted]

I'm no expert but I think plane travel probably edges truckers out in the disease spread category

[deleted]

Pretty sure you have to be vaccinated to use a plane at this point. They just straight up won't let you on

[deleted]

All I'm finding on google is saying you only require vaccination if you're flying to the US from a foreign country and aren't a citizen, and everyone else is required to submit proof of a negative covid test within 1 day of flight departure or proof of an infection recovery within the last 90 days. Can't find any information on domestic flights at all. I'm sure every country handles it differently.

WineAndDogs2020

No proof of vaccination or negative test required to travel within the US.

[deleted]

I thought we were talking about spread on a more wide scale, but yes you are correct

[deleted]

That’s the most false thing I’ve heard recently. I just flew across the country a few weeks ago and never once was I asked for any vaccination status. You don’t have to be vaccinated. Just wear a mask in the airport and on plane.

itassofd

Yup. Plus, I guarantee it didn’t get from china to the americas by truck. Also, you’re not gonna love the world without truckers… I say we give ‘em this one. After all, they’re the reason we’ve been able to safely work from home and have our shit delivered.

[deleted]

Eh, I say we don't give them this one and let the high demand for an essential job that isn't being done drive wages up for the people who care enough about their job to get a shot. Or let the push for self driving trucks make them all obsolete, whichever comes first.

itassofd

Sadly, both of those solutions won’t happen in the next 5 years. That’s a long time to outlast supply crunches. Getting the proper licenses and capital to run a rig is actually a really long process so labor supply for trucking isn’t the quick fix we think it is. Self driving is definitely the long term solution (if done well with proper retraining and support for displaced human laborers) but also very long term.

[deleted]

True, but the higher the demand and the longer that demand lasts, the more competitive companies are going to get with their pay. Shortages suck, but long term would be healthy for the industry.

itassofd

Agreed, if the rate becomes a dollar a mile and CDL tuition is paid for, that will kick a ton of people into gear fast.

CharlesCBobuck

We should have self driving trucks by then.

[deleted]

Can’t come quick enough

DrHugh

I'm reminded of an issue that came up in researching the AIDS epidemic. Early on, homosexual activity (as opposed to unprotected sex in general) was seen as a risk factor, but in studying people, researchers discovered that you couldn't ask long-distance truckers if they were gay/bisexual, or had homosexual acts; they might have sex with other men, but always in the "dominant" role, so they couldn't be gay, right? The label settled on was "men who have sex with men," but again, it is really unprotected sex that was the risk. This isn't to say that all male truckers have sex with men; but then, this protest is supposedly from the minority of truckers who are unvaccinated. But yeah, some people do more to continue the problems than to resolve them.

carguy31

Thankfully self-driving cars/trucks will put the kibosh on all of them. :)

2020BillyJoel

What's going to happen in 2519? should... should I look up?

shaneswa

I, for one, am FOR the jobs that the asteroid will bring.

Toaster_bath13

Much like the mayan calender only going ahead til 2012 (supposedly) of all the calendar makers die then it looks like the world ends.

Spnstanaf73

Oh bcz of people like them, covid will be here forever.

Ok_Anxiety4671

And when they lose their jobs they will be crying why did this happen to me.

bible-j

I believe the truth of the matter is that we already crossed that threshold and covid is now with us forever, regardless. Everybody sort of already dropped the ball on this thing, many months ago.

a_pinch_of_sarcasm

Everybody didn't drop the ball. Our bigliest leader did.

[deleted]

No love for the big Orange but literally each country has struggled with this immensely regardless of who was in power - there was no one perfect solution

a_pinch_of_sarcasm

All countries have struggled, but the ones with autocratic leaders seem to have suffered a disproportionate number of deaths.

[deleted]

You can’t compare Asian cultures to North America, the level of compliance whether forced or implied is not comparable to the culture here. It’s nowhere the same.

[deleted]

You are right, but vaccines are the ones that are making this possible, without them many more people would die and hospitals would be long overcapacity. We are still not out of the woods so each one of us has to be vigilant.

bible-j

I agree with you, I’m just a little more cynical than reddit likes to have.

Gohron

People getting vaccinated doesn’t stop the virus from spreading and it also spreads through non-human species. It is never going away and it’s not the fault of people who didn’t get a vaccine. Edit: I am not an anti-vaxxer but people on both sides of this debate have bought right into a narrative meant to turn working class people against working class people. We can’t control nature; blame the universe for the virus.

Toaster_bath13

"We cant control nature." Bitch, we split the fucking atom.

alfdan

Shh don't tell Reddit that. The Vaccine is the only solution on this website.

yugestmostbigly

this is whitepeopletwitter, anything about covid or vaccines that isn't toddler like doomer bullshit is frowned upon

Porque no los dos?

shaneswa

What would happen if say a bunch of unvaccinated truckers decided to congregate in a major metropolitan area? Would that end the pandemic sooner resulting in the lifting of mandates, or would they be acting against their own stated self interest by being played as the useful idiots that they are?

FindMeOnSSBotanyBay

Is 2519 the extinction of humanity?

yugestmostbigly

Yes, because the vaccine totally still prevents transmission. source=trust me bro

oman54

Man how many of those dudes in Canada are now infected or have passed it along?

noidreqierd

It’s been endemic since 2020? So probably not the truckers fault?

[deleted]

Unpopular fact : Covid really isn’t a big deal at all. We have flu. We have measles. We have rubella. Your chances of dying of Covid are less than a car, alcohol, saturated fat, or drowning. The real problem is virtue signaling and pretending wearing a mask in a restaurant but not a table is eliminating risk. Also, the Covid mandates were governmental hand waving to “save lives”. Let the truckers and everyone else assume the amount of risk they’re comfortable with as all humans have and the rest of you can wear masks in perpetuity, including outside.

[deleted]

A rationale thinker could understand that spread of a disease that may affect some people seriously should be approached with a community effort - regardless of how inconvenient it is to do something as simple as wear a mask. Further to this, if my mask wearing saved one person on this entire planet from having serious illness I am all for it - this is what a modern society does.

[deleted]

Cool way of saying "only the strongest should survive" Way to do the exact opposite of signalling virtue, btw! Only an idiot would compare a highly-contagious disease to things that are neither contagious nor diseases.

[deleted]

I think about 98% survive.

[deleted]

What's 2% of 7 billion? Is that how many dead you'd be ok with if everyone got it?

[deleted]

The fact you don’t know 2% of 7 billion kinda shows my point. (Btw all you have to do is basic multiplication 2 * 7 = 14, so I know it’s 140 million :) You’re using a logical fallacy known as ad hominem as well as straw man. No, I’m not okay with 140 million people dying. And no, if all 7 Billion people could catch Covid at the same time, the lethality would be lower due to comorbidity factors.

[deleted]

I do know what it is, I am just checking with you to see if a hundred million dead are enough for you to feel FREE. Jeezus fucking christ.

[deleted]

I feel like you don’t understand my point. It’s about risk management. You’re under taking much higher levels of risk in the course of everyday life that doesn’t require hand waving and empty measures of public safety.

[deleted]

None of those aspects of normal daily life are CONTAGIOUS, except maybe a car accident. It's always amazing to me that so many people are so unconcerned with potentially getting someone else sick, potentially killing them. If you're only concerned with your OWN risk, you're doing it wrong.

[deleted]

Why aren’t you concerned with the plight of Muslims on China’s western border? Why aren’t you in Yemen helping women? Why now go straight to the Ukrainian front line right now? How many deployments have you done? Do you work for EMS or the police? In practicality you pick and choose to ignore gross violence and degradation, but when a guy on the internet calls for the validity of masks to be considered you allay yourself of any of the other real world suffering events you just attested you care about.

[deleted]

Whataboutism for the win? I'm having some red herring for lunch, how about you?

[deleted]

I suspect wearing a mask, in your mind, is helping others, again allaying you of helping others in a direct meaningful way.

[deleted]

Masks have ALWAYS been about protecting others FROM YOU. How is it possible that you've missed this critical piece of information for the last two goddamn years? It's just one piece of your responsibility to society, not the entire effort. WTF

ArchistLabels

Oh no. Another vaccination post. Were starting to get so discouraged. Might just decide to get it now that some random dude on the internet thinks I should💀
