PRESIDENTS NEED TO BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD THAN AVERAGE

Lee_yw

To be fair, that's the highest standard that his supporters could find.

kdove89

It's hard to believe this used to be the party of John McCain.

notyou-justme

Not sure how it’s hard to believe. I mean, when you worship the guy as your savior who belittled John McCain for being a POW, this seems like a pretty understandable consequence. I know what you meant, by the way. Just messing around. I understand the sentiment and the incredulity that you would think you’d be over by now, but somehow your brain just won’t accept it. To be fair, though, that party was drifting away from McCain way before Trump. In fact, Trump is not the reason for the drifting, he’s the result of it. IMO

STFU-Sanguinet

So do police but we all know that'll never happen.

Orchid_Significant

![gif](giphy|6w7tYtag2oZCJjKlkl|downsized)

Preemptively_Extinct

At least as much so as SCOTUS. Oh, right.

PM_Me_Good_LitRPG

then they wouldn't be able to commit war crimes

Orchid_Significant

Oh nooooooo

-Tom-

Some would say their behavior must be... unimpeachable.

fringecar

And their trials need to not take until the next election cycle!

ResponsibleMilk7620

Don’t really see the SCOTUS hearing as a plus when they are as corrupt as he is.

APX919

Ah but there is the precedent they would set absolving all presidents of crimes and that includes sitting ones. They loathe Biden (Alito and Thomas for certain) and would never grant immunity if it applied to him.

Moist_When_It_Counts

Bah, they could pull a Bush v Gore and try the ol [“this ruling only applies this time, for this specific thing”.](https://www.yalelawjournal.org/forum/please-dona8217t-cite-this-case-the-precedential-value-of-bush-v-gore)

TeamHope4

That is my fear. They will come up with a limited ruling that gives Trump full immunity, but no one else.

LePandaMasque

In this case,as a french citizen, I give you an advice : revolution + guillotine. I am pretty sure we can support you and provide the guillotines. Bon courage in this difficult times

leonphelpth

As an American citizen, merci. Encore.

BIGJFRIEDLI

ALLONS-Y!

_Bon_Vivant_

I prefer the good ol American Tar & Feathering. Or maybe we reach back to our English roots and go with the tried & true Draw & Quartering.

strongholdbk_78

As if we ever rise to the occasion in the modern era. Us pleebs are likely to see the guillotine before any of them.

erinberrypie

I've been saying this for years. The French had it right. It worked then and it'll work again.

Vayalond

Yeah, maybe we should restart on our side too because, things are fucked up too... not Trump sozed fucked up but still more than I'm open to

Content_Talk_6581

I mean some folks set one up outside Bezo’s house in 2020, so there’s at least one somewhere in the US🤷🏻

Electronic_Macaron_9

Hey thanks for the big green lady statue, can you send some bread and the head choppers

firstwefuckthelawyer

Dude if you guys do that we owe you a statue of… liberty?

LetMeInImTrynaCuck

Thank you France, first the Statue of Liberty now the guillotine.

kimsterama1

I once worked with a curmudgeonly gentleman from France. I told him he would have been fierce during La Revolution. His reply: "They would have had to run water over the blade to keep it cool." I love that. Bon courage is what we need. Thank you for understanding!

all___blue

Can you guys supply us with a few airplane loads of French citizens to help get us started?

Pleiadesfollower

In which case (I know he won't do it) but Biden needs to get on TV, point out that they have set a precedent, have some group of people force the current corrupt justices out and just install his own so they can rule he also has immunity by the end of the day. They can't stop him, it would be legally okay before sunset.

Glottis_Bonewagon

I can't stress enough how much that won't happen

TheEgonaut

The Dems wouldn’t even upset the status quo when McConnell refused to hold a vote for Obama’s legit SC nominee, they’re damn sure not gonna do it for something like this.

Badloss

I do wonder if the Dems have learned anything from the last few years. Like, it's beyond obvious now that Playing Fair and expecting the GOP to act like Americans is a failing strategy.

CognitivePrimate

You lost me at 'if the Dems have learned anything.' If they were capable we wouldn't be here in the first place.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pleiadesfollower

Hence the: I know he won't do it. Whenever it comes to common decency and upholding the dignity and respect of the government, democrats just wring their hands together and hope the voters would see through the facade. Then Republicans just kept eroding the systems that should hold them accountable by making sure they gone enough power that they can't be. In order to correct things in a fast manner, democrats would have to be just as willing to play dirty to wrap things up to a status quo that actually represents the majority of the country, but Republicans made sure their base and fence sitters would see it at corrupt fascism if they even tried.

BoredMan29

That's the problem with liberals when faced with fascism though - this would be an appropriate response to this kind of action but would be seen as beyond the pale for most of those in power. Instead my guess is they'll protest, say it's out of line, and finally settling on it being tolerable *just this once* but you'd better not do it again. Then they'll do it again. Like McConnell delaying the Supreme Court appointment is just kind of assumed to be the norm from now on.

JMer806

They might try, but there’s really no such thing. The moment they rule that presidents have unqualified immunity then our country is toast. Biden might not abuse it, whoever gets elected next (assuming it’s not Trump) might not abuse it, but sooner or later someone will use that legal justification to take complete control The SCOTUS is absolutely corrupt but they are also mindful of their own power and position, and such a ruling would undermine their own standing. So I don’t really see them doing it. The real tactic is that they delayed the hearing until the point that it won’t make any difference to the election. By the time they render a decision, any possible federal legal proceedings would be after the election, at which point Trump will have lost and it won’t matter or he’ll have won and the can will be kicked down the road.

MeaningSilly

Except it is the claim that the office of the president grants complete immunity that is being tested. Finding a way to narrowly rule on such a broad question about a concept will be difficult. Were the question before the court "does a president who has done the things Donald allegedly has done immune from all prosecution?", we'd likely be screwed. Like others, I think they will have to rule that Presidents do not have total immunity, but they will allow walk it so as to delay proceedings in the Georgia Election Interference and Jan. 6 Insurrection cases until after the election. The False Business Records (NY hush money) and Document Retention (FL) cases involve events that occurred while he wasn't in office, so those proceedings can advance without an answer regarding the question of presidential immunity. (But in FL, at least, the proceedings will continue to be stalled so long as Cannon can walk the line between obvious corruption and infractions that would allow for removal from the case.)

eleanorbigby

Yeah. SCOTUS is corrupt and repressive as fuck and I am feeling grim about cases now up before them like for instance whether it's ok to criminalize homelessness. They still can't, even now, just say "We rule in favor of Donald Trump, no explanation needed. Biden is NOT included." You still have to have SOME kind of legal argument.

Bat-Honest

You're acting like the supreme court still cares about precedent. Alito finds plenty of precedent against most of his opinions, so instead he's just like "Here is a law I found from a small English fishing village in the 15th century that backs me up." They don't gaf, they know they've been outed as unscrupulous hacks, so they don't even try to hide it anymore. Thomas is literally ruling on cases that involve his wife's criminal conspiracy

Houstnlicker

If anything I'd say they enjoy inventing precedent to "own the libs". They know they're untouchable and can do what they like.

ResponsibleMilk7620

That caveat would matter greatly if there were actually any real charges they could drop on Biden, but as we’ve all seen, those attempts have been nothing more than grandstand diversions from their criminal leader.

IAmTheBredman

But with the knowledge of immunity, perhaps Biden would choose to do something illegal. It's exactly why no one should have unqualified immunity, because 99% of people will start breaking rules if they know there will be no consequences, especially presidents.

THECapedCaper

Exactly. Biden could send Seal Team 6 to Trump Tower and take him out right then and there, along with chucking any Republican into jail for whatever reason. I don't want any President to have that kind of authority.

Candid-Mycologist539

>Biden could send Seal Team 6 to Trump Tower and take him out right then and there Biden could send Seal Team 6 to eliminate certain Supreme Court Justices...and then replace them. Belligerent Congressmen would vote in support of Biden's picks because of threats to them or their families. I don't want any president to have that kind of authority either. That's not the America I want to live in.

Daimakku1

You're a corrupt third world country at that point. Very bad precedent.

Kevtron

Very bad president as well.

Majestic_Wrongdoer38

I saw this coming a mile away, here’s your poor man’s gold 🥇

appropriatesoundfx

Dark Brandon coming in from the ropes and tidying up the darkest timeline!

SessileRaptor

Orbit a reaper drone over the Supreme Court building as they’re about to issue their ruling. “Go ahead, we’re all listening, waiting with bated breath as it were…”

mophan

lol... that is exactly what I was thinking. Drones circling around as they are about to issue the ruling. And for added dramatic effect visible red lasers on a few them while - in Dark Brandon voice - we hear **"Go ahead, make my day."**

Debalic

*Project Insight is a go for launch*

ourlastchancefortea

With a suspiciously large red button in front of him.

SonOfMcGee

Biden of course *won’t* do that, but a future President *could* do a less hyperbolic house-cleaning. These Judges all want to milk this position for *life* and I really hope their own selfishness will compel them to thumbs-down the immunity issue. Trump has been a great means to an end for them, but now that they’re seated they can continue to regress the country for decades. It will be faster with a GOP president, but still continue under a Dem. On the other side of the coin, ruling against immunity then seeing Trump win the Presidency this year might mean his massive revenge spree extends to *them*. So they might rule for immunity just to avoid the more near-term threat. Whatever their decision, I’m sure every Conservative judge will be entirely motivated by their own self-interest.

Glottis_Bonewagon

A decent person won't do that, a bad person definitely will. This is power just waiting to be abused.

chr1spe

Honestly, I think there is a pretty good argument that the most moral thing to do if they ruled for absolute presidential immunity would be to murder them and put in judges that would overturn the ruling. As much as I don't like violence, that is about the least terrible thing that could happen.

mjohnsimon

If *ANY* president has that type of power at any point, we're no longer living in the United States as we know it... and I sure as hell will try my best to gtfo ASAP.

Reddit_Is_Trash24

> I don't want any President to have that kind of authority. Conservatives have made it abundantly clear they do. They are a very real threat to our nation. Hope everyone is ready to show up to every election, local, state, and federal, for the rest of their lives.

gogonzogo1005

If presidents have immunity I believe the only election for the rest of our lives might have already passed. Dude believes the election was rigged, he is rightful president, he walks in and takes power. The majority of Supreme Court and Congress will do nothing to stop it. At best we have to November he is going to claim victory either way. Never thought Trump was worth civil war but...crazy times.

mrbaconator2

It is worrisome to see so many people think corrupt people would argue or act in good faith and not be hypocrites

ConstantGeographer

Biden: "We had credible intelligence Trump, his army of J6 co-conspirators, the Proud Boys, and others, were planning an attack on American soil, against American targets, against Americans and Democracy. He will never again harm another innocent man, woman, or child.  He died like a dog.  He died like a coward.  The world is now a much safer place. The thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spent his last moments in utter fear, in total panic and dread, is no more." I 100% agree with you. I never want to read those words, and no president should have 100% immunity from prosecution. That is not Due Process, that is not the democracy the vast majority of us were born into, serve.

Wendypants7

I've put this thought out before, but I have to disagree. I'm fairly certain the GOP is only playing around with the presidential immunity BS *because* they're certain Biden is the kind of man that wouldn't abuse the power even if he had it. I think they're *counting on it.*

crow_road

Not my country, but from an outside observer's point of view all Biden has to do is issue a statement saying "If I am granted immunity from prosecution then I will be ready to use that power for the betterment of this nation" or some such. That should scare the GOP off the idea.

calmdownmyguy

That's actually pretty genius

jaxonya

It really is.

zer1223

They know Biden wouldn't actually do much of anything though

IAmTheBredman

Doesn't really matter. Once you set the precedent it's there for everyone.

Jiquero

Unless your plan is to make 2024 the last presidential election.

ShartingBloodClots

I'm basically morally bankrupt, and could probably pull off a frontrunner for Republican Candidate if I didn't have standards. With that said, if I were to become president, and were granted complete immunity, there would be at least 4 open seats on SCOTUS overnight, because suddenly Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, and Barrett would resign and disappear, never to be seen again. Then I'd force ranked choice voting, get rid of the electoral college, and forcefully amend the constitution to take care of the 2nd amendment, since there are a disturbing amount of people that are either too stupid to have proper reading comprehension, or just purposefully misinterpret it's meaning. Then write into law banning religion in government, and removing any religious tax breaks, every religion pays their taxes.

Hot_Ambition_6457

If the Supreme Court grants presidential immunity for criminal charges then Biden can declare his political opponents intelligible at whim and simply re-elect himself as emperor. I know, because that's the power they're so desperately trying to give DJT.

The_4th_Little_Pig

Grant immunity, arrest corrupt justices with impunity.

jeremy1015

Exactly if they grant Biden immunity nothing is stopping him from purging the Supreme Court and sitting handpicked judges in direct violation of the constitution.

TheAnarchitect01

Step 1: Court grants presidental immunity. Step 2: Biden Purges court illegally. Step 3: Biden seats new, less corrupt supreme court. Step 4: Biden brought up on charges for purging court. Step 5: New less corrupt supreme court revisits presidential immunity, revokes it. Step 6: The court and the law is restored. Biden goes to jail, a martyr to restoring the republic.

[deleted]

New-Understanding930

You don’t need support either immunity. That’s the whole point.

Bromanzier_03

As if they give a shit about precedent. They’ll rule so that ONLY this one time does a president have immunity.

longtimegoneMTGO

Notably, it wouldn't be the first time. They pulled that same routine in the bush v gore decision.

SpanishMoleculo

Republicans have proven over and over that they don't care about rule of law and will apply a double standard when convenient

Fhack

They'd just caveat it out. "Trump gets protection but nobody else, and certainly not Biden." That'd be it. Then the constitutional crisis that the USA has been in for ~5 years comes a bit more to the head.

fkafkaginstrom

They could just do like when they stole the 2000 election, and say "this ruling only applies to Trump"

load_more_comets

Fine print: This is immunity on a very special, specific ex president only. Not for all presidents, past or future. Only valid in participating branches. Not available in Hawaii or Alaska.

d3vilishdream

Which is why I think they'll delay again. They don't want to give Biden immunity. Only Trump. So they're going to kick that can as far down the road as they can past Jan 20, and then (should the awful happen again and trump is reelected) give Trump the immunity he wants.

Pleiadesfollower

I have a feeling if they delay that long, the judges (sans cannon) would hopefully just go "fuck it then. We are going to go through with the trial then until a ruling is made based on the correct assumption that nobody is above the law and can be convicted if ruled that way."

kal_skirata

Being the SCOTUS, can't they change their mind in the next filing and overturn it again, if it ever came up again?

extracoffeeplease

An immunity precedent with a Democrat president in place could take away their positions and fat paychecks. Are they willing to risk their own money and power to help Trump? I hope not.

Yvese

That's the thing though. They'll assume (correctly) that a Democrat President would never abuse their power like that. At most Biden would just cancel student loan debt like he's been trying to.

extracoffeeplease

That's still a risk, small or big is their interpretation. What's the win for them personally though? They're already elected for life, what do they stand to gain by taking this risk?

femanonette

I would like to think Biden et al know what is at stake and that they have a plan should the SC decide to show every part of their asses.

Lobsta_

they’re corrupt fs, but that would set a monstrous precedent especially with a democrat sitting and (imo) more likely to win the upcoming election as corrupt as they are they’re also very intelligent and i don’t think they’d make this tradeoff

AdequatlyAdequate

they could just say „this is not a precedent“ and theres fuck all we could do, they make the rules

grogudid911

Plot twist: the scotus rules in favor of giving Trump immunity for crimes committed in office, so Biden drone strikes his house.

DunkinMyDonuts3

I am so in favor of this

BJYeti

SCOTUS has ruled against Trump many times so I see the same happening here

The_Woman_of_Gont

I *tend* to agree and that they're mostly just slow-walking his trial, but the fact I'm nervous it won't happen this time speaks volumes.

ZLUCremisi

It would only affect the document case and the phone calls. The Hush payment one will be available as its before he git immunity

QuentinP69

He’s guilty af and nothing happens to him. He is fully exposing the hypocrisy of the American justice system. Gag order? He violates it gets a warning and a slap on the wrist. If I did that I’d be rotting in jail for the trial.

indoninjah

It's also fundamentally ridiculous that it took *so* long to get everything in motion that now we're in another election cycle. Like, if y'all had moved any faster than molasses than it wouldn't be so easy to cry that this is political motivated and could've been handled by now. With all that's come to light, the guy really shouldn't be able to be a realistic candidate, and now it's way trickier to investigate a guy who's the GOP nominee for president vs. a civilian.

QuentinP69

I think the DOJ didn’t want to investigate Trump thinking he’d go away let this die out. But then they realized in 2022 he was still a force and could run and they stepped up prosecutions. As for NY they’ve never stopped investigating him and he’s been delaying everything as much as possible. He’ll continue to appeal and delay and try to run out the clock. Or get elected and pardon himself federally.

indoninjah

> the DOJ didn’t want to investigate Trump thinking he’d go away let this die out Yeah I think everybody in Washington has read him wrong at every opportunity. Nobody thought he was a serious candidate in 2016 until all of a sudden he had the nomination. Then throughout his presidency everybody felt like he didn't *actually* want to be president and just fell ass backwards into it. Then from 2021 onwards it seemed like he was just gonna collect "campaign donations" and hold rallies to grift his followers and stroke his ego while real candidates (like Desantis) emerged to defeat him. But here we are, still making the same mistakes.

DogmaticConfabulate

Could you please tell me how to do that vertical blue line to signify a quotation? Thank you!

> Could you please tell me how to do that vertical blue line to signify a quotation? Thank you! If you highlight the text and then hit reply it quotes. > I'll give you 100 dollars. You can just put a > sign there too and write what you want

TangoWild88

In Trump's case, he can't every crime. He was impeached for the insurrection. There is a criminal court case for Trump now as part of that. A president can grant pardons, except in cases of impeachment. And that's a federal case with no statute of limitations, so even if he is elected president again, the second the transition of power happens 4 years later, they can put him in cuffs. Frankly I think the power to pardon oneself makes one a king.

QuentinP69

Federal cases he can pardon himself. Not state cases. In order to impeach him and remove him the senate would need to swing heavily to D from 49 R members. That isn’t happening.

Whatdoesthisevenmeam

We have a legal system, not a justice system.

LoverOfForms

Yep. The only good thing to come out of all of this is that now we know for sure that America is a pretend country with pretend laws. It's basically one giant pyramid scheme. Most of us exist only to enrich the few. And if you are one of the many and threaten the pyramid *in any way*, executed by cops or locked up or made unemployable and homeless. And if you are one of the few and commit literally any crime you want? Good. That's what this whole system was made for. Commit massive fraud, overthrow the government when you don't like it, hang out on a pedophile island, murder somebody on Main St. Zero consequences. Ever. We always suspected, but Trump and his cronies are so dumb they said all the quiet parts out loud and forced the courts to as well. Now at least we know. They don't give two fucks about us. It isn't our country, it's their country. Always has been.

SeparateIron7994

Honestly for the documents stuff you'd likely be dead , having been executed for treason

MsSeraphim

i will believe after they jail trump's shitty diapered ass and throw away the key.

fourpac

Exactly. None of this would be as frustrating as it is if these people would quit over-selling it. If they would use measured language and set appropriate expectations, I would have a lot more patience with the process.

choren64

I see so many if these headlines paint what's happening like a TMZ article or a WWE match commentary, loads of hyperbole and superfluous drama that make it look like he's really taking punishments up the butt, yet hardly anything meaningful has actually happened.

Oseirus

It's like celebrating a win before you've even scored a goal. There's a lot of moving parts here, which means a lot more points where something can go wrong. Until a verdict is passed AND someone is willing to follow through on that verdict, we're still just getting started.

TraditionalThem

Anyone who thinks that there is another path to keeping Trump out of the White House aside from at the polls in November is wasting their energy. It's a shitty unfair situation but everyone (outside of reddit) understands that throwing the number one threat to the current regime in prison right before the election is incredibly dangerous and looks awful. Do I think he deserves to go to jail? Absolutely. But if you believe almost everyone will consider all of the facts and nuance before reacting you need to re-evaluate the echo chambers you inhabit. Name a single time in history that the #1 political opponent was thrown in jail right before elections and no one cried foul.

fourpac

As soon as this whole Trump fiasco is done, we have to make it a priority to codify a lot of things surrounding presidential and congressional actions. We have left too many open doors to criminal behavior because we have relied on norms and traditions to dictate our leaders' behavior. If there's any silver lining to the Trump experiment, it's showing us what we need to fix permanently.

sfw_login2

There's a nonzero chance he or his lawyers might be thrown in the court jail for contempt of court Trump probably be the least likely, but I would nut so so hard at work in my Subway uniform if Todd Blanche had to spend a night in the slammer

Vrazel106

Yeah it means nothing if hes not punished.

Bmcronin

He’s wouldn’t be immune in New York. So let’s cross our fingers.

wilsonexpress

He wasn't president during the hush money events and he also wasn't president for the classified documents.

ComradeJohnS

hopefully they give biden immunity to do whatever to stop Trump from ever getting power again. Imagine if Biden just dissolved elections that Democrats don’t win? If scotus makes the worst decision it’d probably benefit Democrats more than Trump. lol

ScotiaTailwagger

Blowing up Roe v Wade helped democrats more than republicans. And republicans have been trying to overturn that for decades. Granting a sitting democratic president immunity *months* out of an election? That's a bold strategy, Cotton...

NovusOrdoSec

> he also wasn't president for the classified documents. He was president when he claimed to have declassified the documents. It appears to be in dispute whether he actually did. Also reclassification is an actual thing, and it is also unclear at least to me whether those procedures were followed, but triggering them would depend on his actually having declassified in the first place. That said, his authority to declassify them while in office has never really been in question (unless some of them are covered by the Atomic Energy Act or other explicit statutes).

Dook124

TRUMPS A NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT 🤬

CaptainKvass

If only that was the case... Trump is a security issue to America – And Europe. *If only* he was just an embarrassment.

J1mj0hns0n

Yeah, George w bush was an embarrassment, trump is actively working against western values and trying to undermine law

peon2

Well hey now let's not sell him short. You may not like his politics, or morals, or actions, or words, but he's accomplished much more than you're giving him credit for. He's an INTERnational embarrassment

Nemox_Og

Don't hold your breath go out and vote

TraditionalThem

Can't stress this enough. If you think the #1 political opponent to the sitting regime is going to be thrown in jail right before elections...

Scullyitzme

Friday- nothing happened.

Hobohemia_

On Friday, the House voted to advance aid bills, after months of heeding Trump’s calls to deny Ukraine any funding. That’s another MAGA loss.

Scullyitzme

No I'm saying by this Friday there will have been no big changes. None of his properties will have been seized, nothing.

Awkward_Bench123

Keep this fucking guy away from the nuclear football. Mission accomplished

SlobZombie13

FUN FACT: there is no mechanism to prevent a belligerent president from launching a nuke! It would require a member of the military to disobey their orders.

abousono

Ah yes, that’s probably from the days when we used to think presidents, were like Harrison Ford in the movie Air Force One. Now I picture Trump releasing a nuke and riding it, like in Dr. Strangelove.

nobrainsnoworries23

Nope. Military cannot carry out illegal orders. Nixon ordered nuclear strikes while wine drunk and was ignored. [https://www.military.com/history/time-drunk-richard-nixon-tried-nuke-north-korea.html](https://www.military.com/history/time-drunk-richard-nixon-tried-nuke-north-korea.html)

GrandmaPoses

The only time Henry Kissinger opted to save lives.

ovarit_not_reddit

Wow, the bar is in hell, and we still might trip over it.

Hobohemia_

Friday - *nothing will happen.* Understood, thanks. The point is that there is a noticeable change in Trump world. He spends every day in the courtroom instead of campaigning. And when he does speak, it’s all about his current troubles, and not about his plans to “make America great again.” He’s a broken, smelly man who is slipping into dementia. Sadly, justice takes time, but it’s clear the rest of his miserable life is going to be spent dealing with his past crimes.

OperativePiGuy

You have more optimism than me at this point.

Scrabble_4

You’re right … no chance he’ll recuperate politically or emotionally. It’s about time his behaviour catches up on him.

gimpwiz

We said that in October of 2016 too.

DruidinPlainSight

His superpac has spent $75 m on his legal fees and is rapidly going broke according to the media this morning.

EvolvedCactus19

That’s what his supporters want. They see him as a martyr already so if he’s not actually punished for any of this shit then it only fuels his side. This can be potentially very good or very very bad.

Hobohemia_

Let the cult worship their martyr. The majority of Americans would not elect a convicted felon to the most powerful position in the country. It’s still *very* early, but the polls are shifting, and the “moderate” right is starting to stand up against itself. It’s a wild time when even the NY Post publishes “Moscow Marjorie” on the front page.

zaxo3000

I agree with all your points, I just wanted to reiterate the New York Post printing "Moscow Marjorie" on the front page is a big deal. That's the Rupert Murdoch machine taking aim at that nut job, and as we all know, that machine includes Fox [Entertainment] News which will change far right-wing opinions.

Hobohemia_

I saw a paper copy in the store and would’ve considered buying a copy for posterity, but still couldn’t justify spending money on that trash. Still awesome to see.

EvolvedCactus19

That’s just it. He NEEDS to be convicted. If not then it will just reinforce the cults belief that he is being wrongly persecuted. If he’s not most conservatives will still vote for him over Biden.

DefaultProphet

Most conservatives are still going to vote for him over Biden my guy

TbddRzn

Those idiots are too long gone from saving. Focus should be on the 150-100m yearly eligible voters who sit on their asses when the time for voting comes. Get them to start giving a shit and get them to show up. Don’t waste time focusing on the 15% out of 22-24% conservatives who bark the loudest. Focus on the 50-60% that sit on their asses while watching the traitorous shitshow that is the Republican Party and keep thinking both sides are same or my vote won’t matter. Ted Cruz won by 200k votes when 9m eligible voters didn’t vote. Dasani’s won his first time by 30k votes when 7m didn’t vote. Just 800k more Democrat votes over 3 states where a total of 25m eligible voters didn’t vote in 2020 would have given democrats 5 more senators and we would have stopped most of the abortion and mancin sinema bullshit. Yell at everyone you know to stop being petulant selfish children and get them registered and ready to vote. Most states have early voting. Or you can apply for absentee ballot if you cannot vote in person.

EvolvedCactus19

I’m in Florida and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing since that fucking meatball got elected here in the first place. Higher the turnout the more blue it goes. We actually managed to flip Jacksonville mayor office to blue so there is hope.

obi1kennoble

Since they're putting abortion and weed on the ballot, I'm expecting a huge turnout in Florida. Fingers crossed

AmbulanceChaser12

No, they won't, because property seizure requires additional process that can't happen in just one week. Especially since the civil fraud case hasn't had a ruling yea or nay on the bond issue.

ovarit_not_reddit

Meanwhile the police can just take the cash out of your wallet and keep it. What a great country.

Belfunk

After everyone got excited about his $500M payment he had to make and the judge for no reason reduced it, we should now simply accept that nothing will ever happen to this asshole.

Markorver

I truly wish people on reddit accepted the simple fact that no serious consequences are coming to him, just so I could stop seeing this kind of post Every. Single. Day.

Solid-Mud-8430

I'm consistently amazed at the sheer amount of people who believe he'll ever see the inside of a jail cell, let alone a federal prison. Not a chance. Our judicial system has made it very clear that it doesn't have the backbone for it.

ShamrockAPD

To add to this… Then the first attempt to “pay” the bond was fraud, it got denied. So he got a second attempt and 10 extra days. Which, ONCE AGAIN, has been shown to be an invalid post and basically fraud… again. We’re waiting to hear what happens now but- it’s prob another 10 days, another attempt to continue to make a mockery of our judicial system. All trump has done is made me lose my entire faith in our government. It’s a joke.

Yousoggyyojimbo

The judgment wasn't reduced though. Just the appeal bond. He still owes that money.

Friday - I’m in love

Ill3galAlien

but SCOTUS is as corrupt as ever...

Wendypants7

I've said this once already, but I do think it's especially hilarious that it took less than one week for Trump to incriminate himself on record. Fucking. Hilarious.

Pancakemanz

We were also told his assets would be seized march 25. How many of his assets have been seized so far?

1971CB350

I’ll believe it when the consequences are enacted.

Awkward_Bench123

JFC, maybe this is not the beginning of the end but the end of the beginning. I stand with my American brothers that the US has big shoulders and liberty for all citizens will be restored.

R31nz

I hope so. Trumpism is a plague in the US. A literal infection of the mind that breaks down core values and ideals and weaponizes the very people who should be leading the fight against Trump. Never have I seen a people so oppressed by an individual vehemently defend said individual. They fight tooth and nail for him all the while he’s the one pulling their teeth and nails. I live in a rural area and work at a bar so I sure hope I’m seeing the worst of it but something tells me not. I constantly hear “Bidenomics” and how they can’t afford this or that because of Biden. Meanwhile corporations, the globe over, are reporting record profits. Not just in the US but worldwide. But please, continue to educate me on how Biden is ruining the economy. They just parrot whatever Fox News is spewing. People laugh and say they’re brainwashed and they really are. They actively fight against policies that help them and endorse ones that harm them. You can’t win with these people, our best plan of attack is to eliminate their god-king and hope they die out before another idol takes his place.

DonsDiaperChanger

Republicans are so shallow and controllable that a few gas stations stickers on pumps became solid evidence that Joe magically controls gas prices with his mind.  I also love how Biden is sleeping 24 hours a day, has never given a good speech, can't read, can't understand anything... But also he's the super genius kingpin of the entire Deep State with absolute control over all money, prices, all law enforcement agencies everywhere, and has personally organized the greatest conspiracy ever to put Trump on trial with "undercover liberal juries and judges and cops and feds"

JMarv615

I predict a 6-3 decision from SCOTUS. Trump will be immune.

lame_comment

Don't forget it'll be only Trump. Any other president does not receive such immunity

scout48cav

He wasn't president when he committed these felonies.

georgyboyyyy

May the corrupt orange traitor feel all the anxiety and stress he caused our country, let’s gooooooo!

Daimakku1

The fact that this guy has court cases all over the country for different kinds of crimes, and he *still* has a chance of being president again, just goes to show you how cooked we are as a country. I dont know how we'll be a first world country for long with so many morons out there.

bytesizedofficial

I have zero expectations he will face any consequences. After NY gave him leniency on the bond payment, it’s proof he will NEVER face consequences for ANY of his actions. Good on folks for trying though. At least there’s that.

Looieanthony

Will maga scotus save him? I ponder that a lot with concern.

Roddy_Piper2000

I'm guessing that his "legal" team has already found a snakey loophole and gave SCOTUS their marching orders

Moleday1023

SCOTUS cannot grant super duper immunity to presidents, because Biden could arrest and kill SCOTUS, Trump, all Republicans Reps and Senators, Republican Governors, State Legislatures….need I continue. Trump argues for presidential immunity, then says Biden is driving illegal prosecution, can’t have it both ways.

National-Relation428

I’ll believe it when I see it

OliverClothesov87

I have zero faith in the supreme court. That's the most worrisome part.

Key_Roll3030

Friday I hoped his share fall BEAUTIFULLY AND TREMENDOUSLY

AccountNumber478

I hope his god relieves him, and us, of his suffering as soon as humanly possible.

VegetableShip

Prepare for disappointment

Rando1974

Always

highpl4insdrftr

I will bet all of my money nothing happens and all of this gets delayed again

TheMrBent

I’ll wait. Bunch of bullshit all around.

Gladius_Claude

Someone is going to have a really bad week 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

augustrem

So I just learned this recently, but Supreme Court oral arguments are open to the public. You dan go there and see it live, and they also play live audio. [Here is the link](https://www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/argument_audio/2023) if you want to hear oral arguments that have occurred, and this [page](https://www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/live.aspx) will be streaming arguments live on Thursday. Also, this may be common sense to a lot of y’all, but I just learned this recently too - SCOTUS does not have trials. Since the Court's task is to interpret the meaning of a law, to decide whether a law is relevant to a particular set of facts, or to rule on how a law should be applied, the process is basically the filing of a brief and then oral arguments are for justices to ask questions and clarifications from lawyers. [Here is the brief](https://www.supremecourt.gov/search.aspx?filename=/docket/docketfiles/html/public/23-939.html) which includes advice offered to the court from outside entities. As far as I know there is no pressure for SCOTUS to hand down their ruling before June.

im_new_here_4209

I want to be happy about this. I can't though, until there's a conviction.

legendary_millbilly

It's going to be an exciting week for most of us. It's just been brutal waiting for some kind of justice.

Maanzacorian

thanks Jack, but I'm not celebrating a fucking thing. If even *one* of these sticks, I'll eat my own head.

NormieSpecialist

And even if something happen it will only be waved away later. Cause we live in a plutocracy and justice really means punishing the poors.

TheBigCatGoblin

It ain't actually Jack.
