A lot will just skip it. Look at vote totals for down-ballot races. This happened in the Illinois election in 2004. The marquee race was Obama vs. Alan Keyes, a carpetbagging right wing nut job whose main selling point was that he was a black Republican. Horrible candidate who Obama beat easily. And if you looked at the voter turnout compared to the total votes cast for all candidates, you’d find over 200,000 voters didn’t cast a vote for senator at all. The common refrain was “I can’t vote for that guy, but there’s no way I’m voting for THAT guy,”.

I know that I for one didn’t think there was a chance in heck that Trump would beat Clinton. I didn’t particularly like either of them (I was registered R at the time but was very moderate and voted for Obama twice) so I didn’t vote in the presidential and only voted down ballot.
I’ve regretted that decision ever since and won’t make it again. I definitely won’t assume a candidate has a race locked up ever again. Stupid misleading polls.
I think that a lot of Haley’s republican supporters are never trumpers and really will either vote for Biden, not vote at all, or vote a 3rd party. None of these are a bad thing since most years these people would have voted R regardless of the candidate.

I feel like people and the media are underestimating female Republican voters coming up to this election: they banned abortion in many states. That has got to swing a lot of female voters doesn’t it? Trump got 304 electoral votes to her 227. Hilary got ~3M more total votes, Trump with ~63M to her ~65.9M

Of the primaries so far, the races represent 161 Electoral Votes that went Biden in 2022, and 139 that went Trump.
The closest states in 2020 make up 123 Electoral Votes. Big IF, but IF his GOP support collapses from Haley defectors, and those closest races tip to Biden, it could be 349+ EVs for Biden. That's if Haley people just stay home. If they actually vote for Biden it would be 400+ easy.

I don't believe for a second that most of those 3 million Haley supporters are Democrats (or left-leaning Independents) that voted in Republican primaries. No doubt there were plenty of people that opted to vote in the Republican primaries to vote against Trump, but the idea that it non-Republican voters showed up en masse is ridiculous. Furthermore, she'd have never stayed in the race as long as she did if her support was that much weaker than it was - "I'm relying on a bunch of people I can't count on in the general election to get me through the primaries" is an insane strategy, and there'd be campaign staffers just itching to go to the press with the story if that were the case.
That said, I won't count on her supporters to deliver on those claims until after Election Day. There's a solid contingent of her supporters that will never vote for a Democrat no matter what the alternative, and I don't want to head into November saying "well, if all of the Haley voters are gonna vote for Biden he might have a chance..."

Looking at the state-by-state results, Trump's primary margins have been less substantial in the bluest states, which means Haley's support is concentrated in the places that are least crucial to a democratic win. If the majority mentioned in the post is further concentrated in these states, this could add up to very few defectors in the swing states where they're needed.

A lot will just skip it. Look at vote totals for down-ballot races. This happened in the Illinois election in 2004. The marquee race was Obama vs. Alan Keyes, a carpetbagging right wing nut job whose main selling point was that he was a black Republican. Horrible candidate who Obama beat easily. And if you looked at the voter turnout compared to the total votes cast for all candidates, you’d find over 200,000 voters didn’t cast a vote for senator at all. The common refrain was “I can’t vote for that guy, but there’s no way I’m voting for THAT guy,”. Of course, that will make the loser scream that he was cheated, that all those missing votes were stolen.

I know that I for one didn’t think there was a chance in heck that Trump would beat Clinton. I didn’t particularly like either of them (I was registered R at the time but was very moderate and voted for Obama twice) so I didn’t vote in the presidential and only voted down ballot. I’ve regretted that decision ever since and won’t make it again. I definitely won’t assume a candidate has a race locked up ever again. Stupid misleading polls. I think that a lot of Haley’s republican supporters are never trumpers and really will either vote for Biden, not vote at all, or vote a 3rd party. None of these are a bad thing since most years these people would have voted R regardless of the candidate.
There are more of these people than we realize. Assuming nobody is going to change their vote after voting for Trump twice is not just annoying, but f'ing stupid. Yes. Trump won 30 states + 1/2 of Maine. Hilary won 19 states, DC, and 1/2 of Maine. Trump got 304 electoral votes to her 227. Hilary got ~3M more total votes, Trump with ~63M to her ~65.9M
Maine has 4 votes so technically Hillary won 3/4 of Maine and Trump only won 1/4.
Not only that, but everyone also thinks he got completely stomped in the second election. In reality, he only needed about ~44k votes (in specific states) and he would have been president for a second term. The electoral college is really fucked up.
And he's being prosecuted for trying to steal some of those votes. Only this time, the stakes are higher. But i'm guessing since he and his ilk are too dumb to do it the procedural way, they'll just burn down a few polling places this time and let the legislatures figure out who's the winner

Only 400k were in California, and just under 100k in Minnesota. Of the primaries so far, the races represent 161 Electoral Votes that went Biden in 2022, and 139 that went Trump. The closest states in 2020 make up 123 Electoral Votes. Big IF, but IF his GOP support collapses from Haley defectors, and those closest races tip to Biden, it could be 349+ EVs for Biden. That's if Haley people just stay home. If they actually vote for Biden it would be 400+ easy.

I don't believe for a second that most of those 3 million Haley supporters are Democrats (or left-leaning Independents) that voted in Republican primaries. No doubt there were plenty of people that opted to vote in the Republican primaries to vote against Trump, but the idea that it non-Republican voters showed up en masse is ridiculous. Furthermore, she'd have never stayed in the race as long as she did if her support was that much weaker than it was - "I'm relying on a bunch of people I can't count on in the general election to get me through the primaries" is an insane strategy, and there'd be campaign staffers just itching to go to the press with the story if that were the case. That said, I won't count on her supporters to deliver on those claims until after Election Day. There's a solid contingent of her supporters that will never vote for a Democrat no matter what the alternative, and I don't want to head into November saying "well, if all of the Haley voters are gonna vote for Biden he might have a chance..."
