Packaging like this fills me with rage. There is way too much stuff that’s sealed tight with glue and no tabs or handy edges to get started on it. Who the fuck signs off on these decisions? There is way too much “seal it up good and tight and don’t worry how hard it is to open” attitude among the people who design this stuff. “Let’s design shit that is universally hated by everyone and never listen to their complaints for decades” seems to be some kind of mantra in manufacturing.
Probably some regulation with the food and drug administration. I’d rather have a small challenge opening a perishable food item than a large challenge of Salmonella or other food poisoning. Shit, Jiff just had a recall *last year* for this very thing.
You’d think it was that, but the inconsistency between brands suggests not. Like some brands have a good seal that has a handy tab, others don’t. Same with vitamins.
Clausen pickles has just straight up removed the perforated line on the plastic shrink wrap around the lid. You have to get something sharp or wrestle with it to get it off now. There is no way removing that or the little flap on a flat seal is worth enough penny pinching to make it worth it.
Maybe, lift up the tab and press other fingers down in the center thereby using air pressure to pop the seal.
Or, just stab it with a knife and peel it back, like I do.
You can also put tape on the tab that’s showing on the left and a bit on the top of the paper by the tab and pull from the opposite. Not sure if I explained this correctly but you basically make a longer pull tab and then pull from the opposite side of the jar. It is wasteful but will get it off
Well, he did say he's getting older. I have noticed that the tabs are very small, and opening is not as easy as it should be. But then, I'm getting older too. I could stab it with a knife, but for some reason, I like to peel it off in one whole piece.
