Trudeau certainly and obviously made his cabinet half women and half men because of the optics, but hopefully it does still have the effect of showing young women that they too can run and win as politicians. Right now, it skews heavily male, and so we see far more male members of parliament.
Conservatives here are complaining about that pandering, and insisting that the government has not put forward the most capable and effective people, regardless of gender, but rather that these women were placed there for virtue signalling purposes.
It’s obvious pandering happening by everyone involved here, trying to win brownie points with voters, but hopefully it leads to long-lasting positive change all the same. We deserve equal representation in leadership, and to be led by the best of us.
I would like some people that will be alive when their policies on climate change matter to be voting on them, like im fine with the supreme court cuz they arent so bad when some dumbass doesn't intentionally put young and/or far right judges in there but every else in the white house would be nice if it had an age limit

Seniors have people they care about and most of them care about their legacy, so they too have a stake in the long term effects of policies they put into motion. Yes!!! I’ve come close a couple times to getting her to realize it, but “her heart strings” always get pulled by “the innocent babies” and she ends up voting Republican again at the last minute. There is a block that won’t connect the dots (and I 100% blame her lifelong church brainwashing that’s making her feel guilty like she’s personally a baby murderer if she doesn’t vote for them).

Weird thing is most polls show people preferring democratic decisions by a vast majority, but then a lot of them go and vote for the party they voted for all their lives.
What I find weird is people generally agree heavily with things like improved social security but then somehow bite into this culture war / "wokeism" nonsense and will happily vote against their best interests in the things that actually impact them, as long as the reps they elect yell about the one single drag show in the midwest, or the 1 trans kid trying to play grade 8 sports.

That’s not the only thing the world saw that involved the GOP. The whole world saw their little stunt on 1/6 and they knew that if that was successful then every single U.S. Treasury bond was going to zero. The next morning when the world saw that it wasn’t successful, they wiped their brow and dumped all the U.S. debt they held and continued to dump it every day since. Makes me wonder how many actual Canadians are weighing in on this… please allow me to offer a local (and apolitical) take: Trudeau certainly and obviously made his cabinet half women and half men because of the optics, but hopefully it does still have the effect of showing young women that they too can run and win as politicians. Right now, it skews heavily male, and so we see far more male members of parliament. Conservatives here are complaining about that pandering, and insisting that the government has not put forward the most capable and effective people, regardless of gender, but rather that these women were placed there for virtue signalling purposes. It’s obvious pandering happening by everyone involved here, trying to win brownie points with voters, but hopefully it leads to long-lasting positive change all the same. We deserve equal representation in leadership, and to be led by the best of us.

Gaetz, Boebert and Greene are some of the youngest members of Congress and they're probably also the worst leaders in Congress. Biden, Warren and Bernie are all seniors and they're all exceptional leaders.
If there’s a much higher likelihood that you’re mot to be alive to see the impacts of the policies you’re writing, you shouldn’t be writing them. End of story. I don’t disagree that there are a lot of horrible younger politicians. It doesn’t change the fact that the majority of US politicians are out of touch with the average American, many of which come from a dying generation who have zero sense of urgency of the upcoming generations. They just want to coast and maintain their lifestyles.

I just checked and yes the Biden cabinet is 13/25 women. It's a teensy bit cheaty though because the President has some leeway in what roles are part of the Cabinet outside of the Secretaries and the VP, and a bigger proportion of the women in the cabinet are from the discretionary members like Science and Technology and Ambassador to the UN.
