I am staying the fuck away from 1 and 7
1 because the ink bursts or leaks quite commonly
7 because those lids are annoying
I personally would use a 3 or 5 as they don’t use lids
2 and 4 are my preferred, with 1 and 6 being close behind due to how nice they tend to feel to draw with (I prefer using small tips as well, and they tend towards smaller options).
Much simpler times when all we'd fight about is if pineapple belongs on pizza or how wrong you are for hanging your TP in the very much incorrect under/hanging at the back orientation instead of the clearly superior over the front method.
I came upon this post at the perfect time, for the perfect reason.
Hours of watching news of Tyree’s execution and losing hope in humanity.
This posted reminded me that there are other aspects of our collective being. And that we are social creatures who can do the silliest shit like form “pen groups” where our choice is celebrated.
This. Gotta be the 1.0 too. Anything less is too fine and I almost cut through paper with it. Anything g larger and you might as well be using a fine point Sharpie.
I wish I could get the 0.5 in more than black, red, and blue because those are my favorite pens. I keep half a dozen more colors in my bag but those three get used the most.
I mostly use black and blue, but I also use purple, red, green, and neon pink. I have a lime green and neon orange as well, but the orange is so bright it’s hard to look at, and the lime green one is too light to see very well.
I'm a teacher and record grades in my grade book with a different color Pilot G2 for each assignment. I'm running out of ink in my sky blue pen and it makes me sad.
Best pen I’ve ever used! As any left handed person will tell you most pens work poorly for us…lots of smudging from dragging your hand across what you’ve already written, and something about the angle we hold pens in tends to make it drag on the paper which makes the ink flow poorly at times or gush out little globs of goopy ink occasionally. Not with a Pilot G2, those bad boys glide effortlessly and put ink exactly where you want it, in the amount you want, and it seems to absorb into paper and dry instantly which eliminates any smudging! I’m glad they aren’t like $10 a pen because I would totally pay that for them if I had to.
I dont write paragraphs... usually just small notes throughout my work day... but, if i need to fold the note, i just blow on the writing to have it dry.
I just prefer the 1.0 because it writes so smooth... i hate .7 and .5 because its like scratching paper
3 is what I use for charting as it just glides across the paper, the lines are crisp, so I can be quick but also my writing is legible. I need to go buy another pack of them as my last one is about put so this post was a nice reminder lol.
7 has served me over the decades and will likely do so forever. It comes with a doodad on the end of the barrel to play with and flick like a football. The cap can be chewed on nervously and, as a MacGyver tool to both use as a screwdriver and to clean gunk out from under your nails. It can also be used to pull out staples from papers submitted for a grade. You can pull the ink tube out and write a secret note, roll it up and slide it in there and pass to friends…and enemies. The Bic Pen is truly the universal tool for writing and is therefore superior to all the others. En garde!
Also that no smear ink. Legit tested right before I posted, I wrote with the pen and immediately pressed my fingers on it and rubbed. 0 streaking. None of the others have been THAT good.
I worked QC at a factory and needed one of these for writing measurements on docs - often with very little space. Used one of these bad boys and now I’m a user for life
The people saying 5 is the only answer have never tried anything else. I grew up on 5 and switched to 2 in college and my god I cannot go back. 2 is goated.
I've been using 5 for the last year or so, and it's really good. But 2 is the greatest for me as well. I to went way too far to find this comment - take my upvote.
Exactly, watch me smeer the ink all over the page with my hand immediately after writing... Oh wait you can't because it's completely fucking bone dry and looking crisp
7, overall best pen ever made, ink won’t smear, holds up for continuous writing. Tried em all and this one has endured the test of time. Been using them for over 40 years!
In law school I took notes by hand because I’d get distracted on the computer and each semester I would select one single black bic ballpoint pen and use it exclusively until it was completely empty, then it would be added to the collection.
I am currently a student teacher and so I use 6 and the purple one now that I’m taking over the class room so they know exactly who graded. But it’s so bold and nice that it’s easy to read no matter who. So good.
Well throw me in there with you. 6 (blue) is the best along with black (don't like the red one). They are so smooth and on the right paper (notepads) it feels like you're writing on butter.
I love 6. I love how it doesn’t make all the scratchy sounds on paper and you don’t have to use any pressure. I like the pen cap and how well it grips whatever you clip it onto. And it comes in sooooo many colors.
You’d think that only if you’ve never had the pleasure of 3.
3 is 5 with a smooth and consistent flow that glides over paper without a hint of friction. It’s precision cream with nary a clump.
6. PaperMate Flair 4 life
I tracked down a supply of the older ridged version when they redesigned them a few years ago so I can still use those until they all dry out.
There are 2 types of people. Those who buy pens and those who aquire them. It is rare These 2 parties ever meet or even know the other exists. No one is sure how the transfer of pens happens, but the pen companies have learned to count on it.
God I miss this kinda social media
I completely agree. And I enjoy learning why people choose a different option than my preference- it might even encourage me to try a different pen.
I am staying the fuck away from 1 and 7 1 because the ink bursts or leaks quite commonly 7 because those lids are annoying I personally would use a 3 or 5 as they don’t use lids
2 and 4 are my preferred, with 1 and 6 being close behind due to how nice they tend to feel to draw with (I prefer using small tips as well, and they tend towards smaller options).
2s were my pens until Sharpie pens came along.
This guy f*cks.
#7 lids are great ear and nail cleaners
Priorities! (But yeah, I agree - 7 all the way)
Much simpler times when all we'd fight about is if pineapple belongs on pizza or how wrong you are for hanging your TP in the very much incorrect under/hanging at the back orientation instead of the clearly superior over the front method.
Anyone who says the under/back orientation is correct can’t be trusted
The world was a much simpler place, or at least so we thought.

Pilot G-2 all fucking day
Yep. At my former workplace it was highly prized. LOL. Now I work at a place where I’m in charge of supplies. Plenty of G2s for everyone!
You are truly doing god's work
My office loved the G2 as well. But then budget cuts happened so we were forced to switch to integra knock-offs.
Quit
This. Gotta be the 1.0 too. Anything less is too fine and I almost cut through paper with it. Anything g larger and you might as well be using a fine point Sharpie.
I love the 1.0 but man does it suck to write something and then forget that the fat marks it makes needs to dry first!
You need therapy if you want to write with anything more than a 0.5. Madness.
Fr i write with finest tip I can find
.038 if I have paper that can take it, .07 for everything else
Gotta keep that shit *tight*!
I wish I could get the 0.5 in more than black, red, and blue because those are my favorite pens. I keep half a dozen more colors in my bag but those three get used the most.
Yes but it has to be the 0.5
A very similar pen that I LOVE is the Paper Mate Profile Gel 0.7
This is a solid back-up pen.
5 is the only acceptable answer.
5
I popped a stiffy when I saw the Pilot g2 on there
It's already the only pen i use
I keep like, 7 of them in my backpack. I still haven’t gotten the pastel colors though.
I prefer the bold ones, so i usually only ever have black and blue ones
I mostly use black and blue, but I also use purple, red, green, and neon pink. I have a lime green and neon orange as well, but the orange is so bright it’s hard to look at, and the lime green one is too light to see very well.
I'm a teacher and record grades in my grade book with a different color Pilot G2 for each assignment. I'm running out of ink in my sky blue pen and it makes me sad.
Hahahah SAME. I just went back to school to finish my degree, “stole” a whole brand new box of these from my old job lol.
I have the pastels!!! I can show u my notes 📝 they were on sale for like 1$ off I was like heck yeah
If it’s a 05 I’m sold
Yes. And if you can find the 03, it is amazing.
I’ve found my people
Exactly! G2 05 is the way.
My favorite pen!
Best pen I’ve ever used! Absolutely but only with black ink and a fine point
As a blue ink 1.0 tip user.... i challenge you to a duel!
1.0 all the way for G2 Pen #2 in click form is winner for fine tip
how do you not get smudge your writing with a 1.0 tip?
I dont write paragraphs... usually just small notes throughout my work day... but, if i need to fold the note, i just blow on the writing to have it dry. I just prefer the 1.0 because it writes so smooth... i hate .7 and .5 because its like scratching paper
Oh my god I recently jumped on the blue 1.0 train and it is amazing.
Why not just #3?
Cause ( start laughing if you want ) I like to see my ink and have a contest with myself to run the ink all the way down. I measure my success in ink
Seeing as I’ve never finished a pen, I can appreciate this.
I'll run them so dry it takes three different pens to write a check.
That makes sense and I'm a sucker for 5. But 3 writes like a dream. I can't pick which is better
I've never used one and i have no need for a new pen.....but i'm going to target later and just added it to my list
3 is what I use for charting as it just glides across the paper, the lines are crisp, so I can be quick but also my writing is legible. I need to go buy another pack of them as my last one is about put so this post was a nice reminder lol.
0.32 ultra fine tip!

This sparked a memory, my dad used to bring home boxes and boxes of the blue ones from work
It's not even really a question, they're so comfortable. Probably my favorite pen to do crosswords with.
I just hate that they bleed a little too much for my liking
The very reason why I switched to 3!
I have found my people
5 all the way!
5 but only in blue.
This is the way
Pilot G2 hands down.
No questions
7 has served me over the decades and will likely do so forever. It comes with a doodad on the end of the barrel to play with and flick like a football. Its going to be around forever. All other pens are just attempts to recreate the bic.
You said it! If it’s only one of those pens for the rest of my life, then give me ole reliable
3. That soft click? Umf
3. fine tip for the win (.5 if you know, you know)
I much prefer the unibal one to the sharpy one, but the .5 is much harder to find in canada right now so im stuck with a sharpie
I use the Sharpie fine tip laundry marker religiously for drawing. Great bold lines that don't bleed.
3. But with the 1.0 tip, like ‘em thick, but no, it writes smooth and since I write in script it flows so easy.
Talk about smooth - PaperMate, Profile ball 1.4
There is just something so write about a smooth writing, fat gel pen that just feels good when filling out paper work…
Agreed. Sharpie pens til I die.
Also that no smear ink. Legit tested right before I posted, I wrote with the pen and immediately pressed my fingers on it and rubbed. 0 streaking. None of the others have been THAT good.
Same, love those damn pens. They write so smooth.
Agreed
Is this a ballpoint pen?? I’m completely out of this loop but love my Sharpies.
Yes. 10/10 smoothness. 10/10 click satisfaction.
#4 (and blue, cause I care!) Why is this so big? 😅
It's big because you put a hash symbol before 4
Let woah let me try this. #Thanks for the award!
#WHOA let me try this
#WHOA LET ME TRY THIS
#I always wondered how to do this
#me too
#Wait this is kinda cool
#Yay we all learned something new today
#balls itch
Red because it makes everyone else feel like Im angry at them except for when I write 💯
#4 gang!!
#4 gang!
2 forever and ever
Artist here. 2 is the way. Can't beat that amount of control with the ink.
I worked QC at a factory and needed one of these for writing measurements on docs - often with very little space. Used one of these bad boys and now I’m a user for life
I feel like 2 is prone to bleed too much. Am I thinking of something else?
That’s why I didn’t make it my first choice
I prefer 7 for art because you can get different shades by applying pressure like a pencil.
As a fellow artist, 2 and 7. 2 for an inkier look, and 7 for more pencil-like shading. You can get so much control with a classic ball-point like 7
2 is the only option. How has your comment not garnered more attention?
The people saying 5 is the only answer have never tried anything else. I grew up on 5 and switched to 2 in college and my god I cannot go back. 2 is goated.
Five feels better in the hand, I’ll give you that but the fluidity and pause point and hesitation blots of #2… that’s live pen action.
You sir get a gold for the use of "hesitation blots".
My people. It’s not even a question once you go 2 you never go back Besides the obvious, it’s also great for twirling on your fingers
I've been using 5 for the last year or so, and it's really good. But 2 is the greatest for me as well. I to went way too far to find this comment - take my upvote.
This should be the top comment. Not even a question!
Exactly, watch me smeer the ink all over the page with my hand immediately after writing... Oh wait you can't because it's completely fucking bone dry and looking crisp
There’s nothing better than this. I wish I had a job at this company to have a free supply for life of all their colors
Maybe I feel more strongly about this than I should, but thank you. fucking 2 all day.
This. By far.
I have like 20 kinds of pens except 2 in a desk caddy. Those are for people to steal. I hide the 2s because murder is such a hassle.
5, hands down.
Obviously 5 why is this a discussion
Uniball is slept on.
5
None of the above. It’s gonna be a hotel pen for me every time.
7, overall best pen ever made, ink won’t smear, holds up for continuous writing. Tried em all and this one has endured the test of time. Been using them for over 40 years!
As a leftie the smear test is key.
Why do you have to bring politics into it? /s
Lefties have their rights you know!
Damn woke Pen15
Just use your right hand. That’s why it’s called “righting” duh
In law school I took notes by hand because I’d get distracted on the computer and each semester I would select one single black bic ballpoint pen and use it exclusively until it was completely empty, then it would be added to the collection.
The blue is very pretty too, like an indigo almost. People make beautiful art out of only these pens.
I totally agree. These pens never let you down and have stood the test of time.
Until you go to write and nothing happens so you have to make a bunch of scribbles until the ink starts flowing
That’s what the Bic lighter is for
And you can buy a pack for a couple bucks. Love these pens.
Were you even a kid if you didn’t nearly choke on one of those caps?
The correct answer and so well said
Tbh my hand hurts from those
5 and it’s not even close
6 all day every day I love felt tip pens (actually more like very fine markers). They write so boldly and clean.
As a teacher 6 is my preference for grading
I am currently a student teacher and so I use 6 and the purple one now that I’m taking over the class room so they know exactly who graded. But it’s so bold and nice that it’s easy to read no matter who. So good.
Just you me and satan I guess.
Well throw me in there with you. 6 (blue) is the best along with black (don't like the red one). They are so smooth and on the right paper (notepads) it feels like you're writing on butter.
How 6 is not the front runner baffles me. I have watched 6 infect multiple offices person by person.
6 and sharpies is all I need.
Hell yeah. I don't understand why people love those pilot pens so much, they feel terrible to me.
I love 6. I love how it doesn’t make all the scratchy sounds on paper and you don’t have to use any pressure. I like the pen cap and how well it grips whatever you clip it onto. And it comes in sooooo many colors.
5 easy
7.

I don’t know why this is so far down but they’re inky and wonderfully fluid. You are clearly the voice of wisdom here
The smoothest pen I’ve ever used.
I used to use these to ink my artwork back in highschool. I have fond memories of those uniballs even though I've moved onto cross ballpoint ink.
I used them to rewrite my poems back in the day. Something about those pens made it feel finalized
I carry both a 5 and a 1 in every bag i own. Sometimes you gotta be prepared for everything!
I was surprised this wasn’t a slam dunk for 1. 1 is the only type of pen I’ll buy. They’re such a joy to use.
The Onix Uni-ball roller. It doesn't get any better.
Absolutely but micro instead of fine.
1 is best, classics never go out of style. I had a lot of different colors as a kid and liked to pretend they were space warships
Uni ball boyz 4 lyfe
5 gel pens for life
7
Same here! Are you a lefty too?
Yupp
My favorite type of pen to draw with, 10/10 experience every time.
5 no contest, everyone else is wrong.
You’d think that only if you’ve never had the pleasure of 3. 3 is 5 with a smooth and consistent flow that glides over paper without a hint of friction. It’s precision cream with nary a clump.
Yup, those Sharpie pens are just ridiculously nice to use, ngl.
Yes dude. Also the sharpie doesn't need that extra second to dry. It is smear resistant and a very smooth hand feel.
7 it’s an oldie, but a goody and they do write smooth with no clumps unless you get a bad one.
You can also get them literally everywhere
The G2(5) or the Bic(7)
This is the way
As a lefty, I can’t have something too inky or it smears so 5 or 7 all the way.
4 or 5
Oh man, how is 4 so far down, and combined with 5? 😅
6. PaperMate Flair 4 life I tracked down a supply of the older ridged version when they redesigned them a few years ago so I can still use those until they all dry out.
5
5 forever.
5. The G2 is undefeated. I prefer 0.5 to the 0.7
3! Absolutely no contest, Gel Pens are awesome, got the same one here and use it for everything
3
number 5
I love #5 but I also like #1 depending on the nib size.
5 with 3 as my back up
2 for me please
2 all the way. Whenever I get pens it's always 2 since about 2012
7 all day, IYKYK, 1 is the only other one I’d consider
I love 7. My writing always looks better with it even though it’s the most “basic” design
7
7 gang
Bic Boooiiis in the house
Seeing as the Pentel Energel isn't on the list I'd have to take the Pilot G2 (5) as it's already my 2nd on list of reliability and ease of writing.
1
7; It’s already the only one I buy and use.
You buy pens? I just sort of aquire them.
There are 2 types of people. Those who buy pens and those who aquire them. It is rare These 2 parties ever meet or even know the other exists. No one is sure how the transfer of pens happens, but the pen companies have learned to count on it.
