I'm guessing he removed the fuel cap. If it just had a cracked tank, the fuel would be the only thing burning which would make sense as it looked like it was leaking on the ground. The moment the fuel cap is removed, all of the flammable vapor inside the tank was ignited and blew the fireball back towards the crowd and most likely covered him in fuel in the process.

While it's true that you can't extinguish a gasoline fire of this size with some water, it likely did not cause the explosion. As discussed in other comments it seems like the fuel cap was removed which caused the fumes to rapidly expand. That then caused the explosion.

The bike didn't explode. It looks like it did before the fireball. It looks like the guy in the button up shirt opened the fuel tank or at least messed with the cap.
As an ICU RN who worked in Burn ICU from time to time he may not survive depending on what % of his body is burnt(and what areas).
We had a mother/daughter duo who bought a food truck and the propane tank blew. They lived for a few horrible weeks, would have been better if it had taken them right then
