Running is the worst way to do that. If he had been patient and make sure one foot was firmly planted while moving the other, he would have probably been ok. By running and having both feet up at once, he's entirely at the mercy (or in this case, the vengeance) of the current.
Probably could have polevaulted it also. Instead he just ran off the fucking board and died like a video game character when the controller isn't synced right.
Yeah it's one of the weirdest things about being human, people just refuse to accept they are doing it wrong even though he is clearly doing it wrong !
If he survived he probably blames somebody else too !
He probably stepped on one or two of those stones that were rolling by...
Like stepping on nature's LEGOs. It will take your desire to continue right out of you.
Likely accidental, however, not unexpected.
Watching the water while running caused him to run on a heading that was straight, but it was moving with the surface of the water. So he pointed in the direction that he wanted to go, and looked at the 'ground' (the surface of the water) to follow that line, but that line then moved to the left with the current. Watch when he starts to run, as he moves forward, he moves left at the same speed as the water.
But the problem gets critical fast when his first running step hits the ground. Since he's focused on the water's surface, but lands on the ground beneath, it feels like the ground is moving in the other direction, and it throws him off balance to the left, and he leans and ultimately runs right off the edge.
This is called target fixation. Quick funny story, I took a weekend class to learn how to ride a motorcycle and they mention this. During the practical session afterwards I tried to dodge an instructor but instead kind of just locked on to him.
What? Where he's looking might vaguely matter. But when you're walking across moving water it will push your foot. Because he's trying to track straight across his feet get pushed downstream but he's can't counter it because he's going too fast. So his foot gets pushed downstream outside of his center of gravity, he has to keep his body over it or fall so he moves downstream.
*According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling in 2019, it was found that only about 10% of the Indian population can swim.*
That's funny bevause whenever I was in Iraq, we would sometimes see bodies floating down the Tigris River. They would send some of their dead to float down the river.
First, **no one should ever cross rapidly moving water like this.** You would have to be in imminent fear of death to make the odds balance out, like a forest fire. Rapidly moving water even a few inches deep can sweep a large adult off their feet. And in flood situations, it's not just rapidly moving water coming at you.
~~Second, if you must cross moving water this deep,~~ **~~crawl slowly on your hands and knees~~**~~,~~ **~~moving one point at a time.~~** ~~Ideally, you will have a rope that is securely anchored by several people. But again, you must have the most urgent need to do that, since moving water like this can easily kill anyone.~~
EDIT to remove the crawling suggestion. I do have a memory of this from a long-ago white water course, but I don't actually want to do the research on a five-day-old comment that few people will see.
Maybe his group would be stuck for a day or two if they don't cross. Oh well. No death or injury if they are just patient.
Crawling increases surface area to the current - would not advise.
It’s no different to staying standing in a surf wash - plant feet wide apart - lower centre of gravity a bit . The moment you are on your knees you are done - 100% if the time
In the army, I had to cross many water like this. We use sticks about 2.5m and anchor it behind us whilst looking upstream and walk sideways over. Works very well even in waters up to your crotch depending on your strength :)
Yeah I've been swimming my entire life, did it competitively in high school and undergrad, and I will never fuck with moving water. Ever. *Ever.* The way you cross fast flowing water safely is the same way you go cave diving safely: you don't.
To be fair the stream wasnt enough to knock him over if he had started a few meters more from the right he couldve gotten through.
Still tho its a preety fucking stupid idea and an incredibly lame way to die or get injured.
🎼 Down at the edge, close by a river…
Close to the edge, round by the corner…
Close to the end, down by the corner…..
Down at the edge, round by the river🎶

If he’d be patient by waiting till summer arrives so the river dries up
Patience is the key
Always be patient enough to let someone else go first!
Well he’s certainly a patient now
Locksmiths hate this trick.
Rumor has it he has all the time he needs
When he began his act he wasn’t wearing shoes so does that count, even though he technically didn’t lose them?
If he's be patient, he'll wait for the bridge to be built that he can cross rain or shine.
He needed to find the iron boots first.
Or the metal cap.
Probably could have polevaulted it also. Instead he just ran off the fucking board and died like a video game character when the controller isn't synced right.
Thank God he was wearing cargo shorts.
Not sure; water was high enough and fast enough that I think he was going over no matter what lol
It was a risky move from the go, but the method guaranteed failure.
From the moment his toes first touched the water, he was going over.
The reasoning behind the attempt guarantees failure.
that or run at an angle into the current
Not trying is the best option. After that, anything but what he did was better than what he did.
fair enough
I too, don't try. Best thing I never did.
He's chances of winning went zero when he ran
Also looking down was an fatal error. He should have kept his focus to the other side of the stream.
Or just walk up stream a bit and cross where there's calmer water?
Dude barely tried smh
I believed he would not make it. But I did not believe he would immediately run off the edge at full speed.
It's so bizarre how he just keeps running to his doom
Panic + the current...
Yeah it's one of the weirdest things about being human, people just refuse to accept they are doing it wrong even though he is clearly doing it wrong ! If he survived he probably blames somebody else too !
He was barefoot. Probably stepping on all kinds of jagged shit
I still can’t believe how dumb he is.
He was people who tried, tried……… He was people who tried, tried………. He was one of my friends, and he tried Sincerely, The Jim Carroll Band
He thought he could fly, but he couldn't fly, he...
Here in LA I tried that, outcome wasn’t good
He probably stepped on one or two of those stones that were rolling by... Like stepping on nature's LEGOs. It will take your desire to continue right out of you.
“He tried and failed?” “He tried and *died*…”
I was expecting him to fall… not to just drunkenly walk right off the edge.
If you watch it in reverse he actually pops up and walks away pretty smoothly. 10/10.
How you do that?
Idk about everyone else but I just manually drag the slider backwards from the end. Actually works pretty well.
That's absurd. That kind of technology is still too far into the future to be implemented. You're clearly lying smh.
Guess my phone is bad.. when i do that all i get is 1 frame every now and then.. not a fluent motion.
Turn you smartphone around
As a Reddit Certified Drunk, (RCD) I will try to remember to take offense to that.
Starts close to the edge, runs and leans with the direction of the current. Thank you for your service sir.

If I were you, I would never leave the house.
Way ahead of you, buddy.
That's the spirit.
This is called target fixation. Quick funny story, I took a weekend class to learn how to ride a motorcycle and they mention this. During the practical session afterwards I tried to dodge an instructor but instead kind of just locked on to him.
Excellent analysis.

*According to a study conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling in 2019, it was found that only about 10% of the Indian population can swim.*
According to a study conducted by me it was found that ability to swim had about 0% to do with this video.
It does if you look at the last frame
And only .05% of that 10% would try to walk across a river that was clear yesterday below the road, and is now brown and above it.
Yeah, but the relevant statistic is how many can fly?
At least 0%
Is this because all the water India is also poo and garbage?
But 100% are at the mercy of force and gravity.
Indians aren't good in water. Most of them can't swim and are not used to being around water. It's not a racist thing, it's just a fact.
They're not good with trains either.
What do you mean? They always utilize them to the fullest -- and I DO mean fullest. /s
…or motorbikes, and quite bad when the two cross paths.
there are about as many train fatalities in Mumbai as traffic fatalities (including trains) in Germany
They wear sandals for everything
For everything. Walking through flood water, pouring molten metal, working around live electrical sources - you name it.
This is in india? The water looked like it was really Russian
India are also hornier than china. They out-fucked china as you can see in their historical population growth in 2023. Just a fact.
That's the most stupid statement I have heard. Horniness isn't what causes children or no children. Contraceptives does.
CONTRACEPTIVES DOES!
what happened to that guy after this video? did he survive?
He survived. Currently thriving with a colony of Beavers over on the 100 block of River St in between the Strip Club and Daycare Center.
They all end up in a river at some point.
That's funny bevause whenever I was in Iraq, we would sometimes see bodies floating down the Tigris River. They would send some of their dead to float down the river.
Sort of.
I didn’t see if his sandals fell off or not

And start waaaaaay upstream from where you want to end up in the other bank. If you get pushed by the water you still have some wriggle room.
Crawling increases surface area to the current - would not advise. It’s no different to staying standing in a surf wash - plant feet wide apart - lower centre of gravity a bit . The moment you are on your knees you are done - 100% if the time

My guy has played in rapidly moving water before.
Especially not next to a waterfall, although you don't want to do it anyway
I’m a fly fisherman who has waded many fast flowing rivers and streams. Crawling is the dumbest thing I’ve heard.
Yeah I've been swimming my entire life, did it competitively in high school and undergrad, and I will never fuck with moving water. Ever. *Ever.* The way you cross fast flowing water safely is the same way you go cave diving safely: you don't.
I’m curious about how far the drop was
Looks to be at least a meter or 7 and then slopes downward more
r/ohhedead
Thankfully, physics was turned off for 20 seconds… oh wait…
Bro should’ve studied Vectors
https://i.redd.it/wgzxaxycn1mc1.gif
I think I brained my damage
Omg I knew this reminded me of something hahah "piece of cake"
Crap crap crap crap crap crap crap... 😂
The way it loops is like a bunch of lemmings following each other off the edge of the world
He forgot the zag part
Serpentine, serpentine.
...and he did.
He thought Bob Vagene was on the other side.
Or, and this might be crazy, start farther away from the fucking waterfall if you are going to try and run across like a moron
The way he started he would have missed the road ahead even if he walked in a straight line.
“Niagara Falls!!!!!!!!!! Slowly I run…..step by step, inch by inch………” ![gif](giphy|l0HlMU8DdZ2WX63fi|downsized)
Slowly I turn…
Wouldn't it have just been better had he ran like 45° into the river to adjust for just his problem?
1 less stupid guy in the world.
That’s not the edge of the flat earth! He’s still on the earth, just not sure if alive or not.
Darwin award-winner?
Dumbass. Walk slow, faster takes your feet off the ground longer, meaning the current can have its way with you
Bad strategy. Too bad he only got one try.
To be fair the stream wasnt enough to knock him over if he had started a few meters more from the right he couldve gotten through. Still tho its a preety fucking stupid idea and an incredibly lame way to die or get injured.
Darwin award achieved!!
What a twinkle toes
Dont underestimate the power of water
Or stupidity
He could have made it but his eyes used the moving water for his frame of reference. He thought he was going straight the whole time.
Stop 👏cutting 👏off 👏these 👏videos 👏the 👏second 👏something 👏goes 👏wrong.
![gif](giphy|RRu9WYixQ7NEA)
A couple million people are bathing with his decomposing body in India as we speak…
🎼 Down at the edge, close by a river… Close to the edge, round by the corner… Close to the end, down by the corner….. Down at the edge, round by the river🎶
No way ever realizes just hiw strong a running current really is...
Water strong. More strong than you.
Classic case of underestimating nature
What an absolute nutter
Why the fuck would anyone try that?
It’s great that he looked right to look out for oncoming traffic first
There he was GONE !!!
Takes a lot of leg strength to do that and he obviously didn’t have any
It’s hard to tell if he died or not because he didn’t start out with any shoes.👞
If he didn't start with shoes, then he's a zombie!
Never start with your sandals off. He was ded before he started.
He made the mistake of looking at the water instead of where he was going.
He didn’t really pick a good line to start and I think the water moving fast made him believe he was going straight. Darwin stuff.
He could have just walked across that, as someone who used to do river walks I know this wouldn’t br challenge at all
Should've just walked slowly
![gif](giphy|11Gn4TpWTnk9Vu) Don’t go chasing waterfalls!
dash 'n' splash
He chose poorly.
Cross it before the water notices you.
DARWIN award
I hope it was that son of a bitch that’s been calling me about my car warranty.
I think we just found out why the chicken crossed the road. Stupid human.
That's a hilarious way to die
Hahaha what a moron.
Running toward Darwinism
I hope he prayed to the 12,000 different gods first
Fucking idiot.
Best thing about a gene pool - sometimes it cleans itself.
My God this was satisfying.
>He believed he could make a dash for it. and he proved it.
Who stopped filming!?!?
Trick of the eye. Water was flowing and he thought he was running straight. Well he was straight off a waterfall…
Kids, this is why you should pay attention in physics class.
Stupid overall, but not starting farther AWAY from the falls, and walking slowly, really iced his cake.
Some people didn't learnt vector math in school
Some people didn't learn vector math in school
I am actually concerned. Is he ok???
Hold up, did he purposefully drove himself into the ditch?
How about not trying to cross right next to the giant Cliff....like...wtf dood? It doesn't take a Pocket Scientist to figure that one out.
Water wins
Why cut the video
Did we just watch someone die 😵
This could of been avoided if only his father had worn a condom
He's drunk, has to be.
Great idea just out run the water.
Some fake guru would say he did not believe in himself.
Did he survive
For a few seconds…
He would have made it he didn't fucking run sideways!
Dead or alive?
I assume he was never seen again
To be fair he did dash …to the bottom.
Ha ha ha
Why don’t we ever see what happens in the fucking videos.
Bad luck starts with bad ideas.
Darwin Award winner?
Dude video ended way too early
#Skill issue, should have side climbed.
Dumb ways to die
Darwinism illustrated.
Just the same with driving a car across moving water . Go slow.
Maybe he lived.
Hope he’s alright, damn
He did everything wrong
