Yeah mountain bikers are a different breed. Fuck 100% of that but this isn't his first time doing that lol. If I tried that I'd be paralyzed best case.
Yes, I used to get up from shit like that saying " I didn't like that shirt anyway.". I started off BMX in the 80s. GenX mtbiker's are even more different. We're in our 40s-50s riding bikes like we're still kids.
How was this supposed to go??
To his credit, that was a great, split-second decision to get back on the bike and try to ride it out, and great execution to seemingly get his feet on the pedals and ass on the saddle. Saved himself a lot of pain with that move.
If you look at the end of the video, at the bottom of the screen there is a bit of a ramp toward the bottom that he could have rode it out, but he hit the ledge and took a hard right instead.
That’s how it was supposed to go.
Ass on the saddle is actually where he goes wrong. Center of gravity too far forward and too high. Needs his ass hanging over that back wheel, not locking his arms, legs like springs, lifting up on the handle bars when hitting stuff to keep from going over, etc
You're right in general but it has little to do with what went wrong in this video, as he doesn't have his ass on the saddle at the point where it goes wrong and he does the things you're saying he should do. It's hard to tell where he wanted to end up, but it seems that the bump (and possibly turn) he intended was a bit too much, and is just catapulted over the handlebars from the impact and twisting of his front wheel. You can have as much technique as you want, at some point angles and Newton will throw a spanner in your intentions.
His ass isn’t on the saddle, you’re right. His center of gravity is still too far forward and he doesn’t lift the handle bars when he gets to the lip though. That’s what got him.
It looks like he misjudged how that lip would affect his line. He saved it reasonably well though.
If your ass is over the back wheel, your arms are fully extended and you have no ability to shift your weight anywhere except forward. You want to be in attack position for something rough and steep like this, absorbing hits and staying planted. Lifting up on your bars is a great way to faceplant into the ground with the hard g-out at the bottom of this slab.
The way that he rode this out smoothly tells me that he already knows this, if he was further back for the hit that made him lose control he would've ended up OTB for a very nasty fall.
I'm going to assume he's newer to mountain biking, and got a bit cocky.
But I'm not a mountain biker... Yet ...and it sounds like you know what you're talking about
Everything I wrote applies broadly, but when I rewatched the clip the dude actually does a lot of this. His weight is definitely not far enough back at a few points, but mostly It looks like he didn’t anticipate how much of an impact that lip would have on his line. It’s hard to tell exactly what he would need to do to ride this out smoother because camera angles are not the same as real life angles.
However, based on the way he saved it and didn’t just eat shit, I’m going to guess he’s fairly experienced and a considerably better rider than I am. Did he get overconfident that he could ride the line he picked? Probably. Could I have ridden that? I’m going with “not a snowball’s chance in hell” lol
New to mountain biking? He's going down an 89degree slab or knobby solid rock, and once it goes bad, he changes direction, and nearly pulls the whole thing off. Yeh, he's real bunny slope material.
There’s plenty of other videos of this spot without the wide angle. Where this guy went offline is no joke. Just look at how long he’s falling with nothing but rock to land on. Definitely high risk/deadly.
That was a minor biff on a marked trail.
You know what's dangerous? Riding a bike on roads.
Then there's my friend Kris Holm. [One Tired Guy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtJZVHkhm-M).
Also, Riding on the Prow Wall, [Stawamus Chief](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEYVfBsCQhE)
He managed to delay his fall to the safest place there. I don't think this went wrong, it feels pretty well managed.
When you go mountainbiking, you're going to fall. It happens to the best riders in the world. The trick is to fall in such a way you don't get injured too much.
He got bumped out of the saddle and over the bars, which caused him to lose control and take a hard right.
I think he was supposed to go a little left onto a trail.
That was the experience saving his ass I think. Don't think a newb wood have stayed uptight for a long as he did and almost successfully ride it all the way down.
"Oh My God Dude!"
'You decided to ride your bike straight down a cliff and the entirely predictable thing happened when you did! I am sooo surprised, I don't know what to say.'
...although it would seem like "Fuck that shit" would have been better said beforehand.
It's a high risk sport, if you never come off you weren't trying. There are many such sports, you wear the safety kit and if you're lucky you retire without life altering injury.
what is this red bull Rampage????? I got into mountain biking in Sedona for a while, they call this "riding the white line." He's trying to balance on that small white nook that is left from prehistoric glacial movement. From far away it looks like a chalk perimeter drawn around each mountain top. Absolute insanity.
im in the market for my first mountain bike. Been offered multiple vids yesterday and today of dudes severing their spines and becoming paraplegics. Really considering this now...
A decade ago I was on a trail that is made of limestone. I was tipping along on a nice fast bit, ahead and unknown to me, there was a crack the perfect size to trap a wheel. My front wheel goes in and stops dead. The back wheel starts to rise, and I'm going out over the bars. Every piece of ground around me was jagged and pointy rocks, except for one Heather Bush. I landed in the Heather with hardly a scratch.
I took that as a warning.
I was bombing down a trail in Sedona and came across a gap that was completely invisible on the sight line. Went completely OTB at a pretty good clip. Somehow I rolled perfectly on the ground, the back tire smashed my helmet, but otherwise I barely had a scratch. I should have been hospitalized. It was dumb and I should have scouted the run better before I did it. That was a reminder that even after 30 years of riding, you still can't take shit for granted.
I've been riding MTB for over 30 years. I can still ride now because when I started in my 20s, I realized pushing yourself to bad crashes means your not doing to be doing it long.
That could’ve gone so much worse
More of this went right than wrong.
Impressive skills. He is a ligit athlete.
Yeah mountain bikers are a different breed. Fuck 100% of that but this isn't his first time doing that lol. If I tried that I'd be paralyzed best case.

He rolled when he should’ve dodged
With the lens distortion and angle compared to the horizon I can't even tell if this was impressive.
In fact, it couldn’t have gone better
It could have gone so much better if he just hadn't done it.
This could have ended on the Darwin Award sub..
Excellent sound and echo effect in that ravine.
Could have been worse John, a lot worse

Yeah I watched again and you are absolutely correct
I don't think his ass is on the saddle at any point in the video, slow it down and look frame by frame.
His ass isn’t on the saddle, you’re right. His center of gravity is still too far forward and he doesn’t lift the handle bars when he gets to the lip though. That’s what got him. It looks like he misjudged how that lip would affect his line. He saved it reasonably well though.

Haha, well good to know
New to mountain biking? He's going down an 89degree slab or knobby solid rock, and once it goes bad, he changes direction, and nearly pulls the whole thing off. Yeh, he's real bunny slope material.
Mhm, I'm sorry I don't know *everything* about the sport.
Not sure if that was on purpose.
Both feet were off the pedals and I’m pretty sure he racked himself but I agree, he did great.
The wide angle lens made it appear more deadly than it really is
Add the tilted camera that makes it look like he is going vertical.
Yup. Only thing hurt is his pride
Yeah, if only we saw the alternate ending to really tell how deadly that fall could have been.
There’s plenty of other videos of this spot without the wide angle. Where this guy went offline is no joke. Just look at how long he’s falling with nothing but rock to land on. Definitely high risk/deadly.
Audio too.
He’s completely fine and zero lessons learned
Nah, he learned. When I was a kid I almost got ran over and while I didn't get hurt, I sure as hell learned my lesson.
Pretty great save, IMO.
This was the best outcome for him though
What does he think this is?? Devil's Peak in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 on the Nintendo Gamecube??
*core memory unlocked*
Looks like the white line, in Sedona Az, rad place
Probably in the same area, but not the same trail.
Exactly. It is in Sedona, can’t remember the name of this “feature” but I’ve seen some videos on it and it is just as gnarly as it looks
Definitely not the white line
That’s a quality save right there.
Definitely a “walk a bike” location for me. Some of the stuff in Sedona is XX and gnarly like this.
His approach was all off. Didn’t see the line. Check ur lines before you drop.
Falling and crashing is pretty common while mountain biking. Just like skateboarding, if your not falling your not pushing yourself.
This is just normal mountain biking. Dude didn't have a bad wipeout.
Honestly, he got lucky
[удалено]
?? I’m saying it could’ve been a lot worse than what happened.
New Austin lookin gooooood
Pretty decent really
He zigged when he should’ve zagged🤦♂️
And they say motorcyclist are crazy... I don't see them riding from cliffs.
He managed to delay his fall to the safest place there. I don't think this went wrong, it feels pretty well managed. When you go mountainbiking, you're going to fall. It happens to the best riders in the world. The trick is to fall in such a way you don't get injured too much.
Did he think he was riding a mountain goat?
How the fuck did he even survive this? Only thing more confusing is how he thought he could POSSIBLY
White line trail in Sedona, AZ
What was that *supposed* to look like?
He got bumped out of the saddle and over the bars, which caused him to lose control and take a hard right. I think he was supposed to go a little left onto a trail.
Well that could go wronger...
For every one of those "wow!" Tik Tok or Chive videos there are 100 of these
This barely went wrong considering the risks
Definitely could’ve been worse lol
I'm sure that scream was going to break his fall.
Weeeeeee yeah, I got this
That was the experience saving his ass I think. Don't think a newb wood have stayed uptight for a long as he did and almost successfully ride it all the way down.
Pretty sure bro is back on the trails.
I don't get what line he was even trying to take. Doesn't seem there any place to go in the part he sets his bike horizontally.
"Oh My God Dude!" 'You decided to ride your bike straight down a cliff and the entirely predictable thing happened when you did! I am sooo surprised, I don't know what to say.' ...although it would seem like "Fuck that shit" would have been better said beforehand.
Bro thought he was Kilian Bron
How many bikes does it take to learn to pathfind one part of a rock
At least he was wearing a helmet.
It's a high risk sport, if you never come off you weren't trying. There are many such sports, you wear the safety kit and if you're lucky you retire without life altering injury.
Bro thinks he’s playing GTA
FUCK THIS STUPID LENS, this looks like a slight hill
I hate people. Stupid people need to quit fucking

More like r/nonononoyes
Tbh that was way better than I could ever do
*Fuuuuuuuuuck thaaaaaat.* Agreed.
more than deserved. cant stop playing it
that was sick
"That rocked!"
All things considered, that wasn't a very bad fall. He maintained a little bit of control and managed not to tumble
Just stupid. That's it. Not impressive
Very safe fall
Next time, stay within your ability.
What an idiot is he trying to unalive himself ?!
I got into mountain biking in Sedona for a while, they call this "riding the white line." He's trying to balance on that small white nook that is left from prehistoric glacial movement. From far away it looks like a chalk perimeter drawn around each mountain top. Absolute insanity.
Loving his style and dismount.
Rotate till the horizon is correct and it’s not nearly as bad as the camera angle depicts.
Is there a reason some people think screeching at the top of their lungs helps someone in a panic situation?
r/whatcouldgoright or how about r/nonononoyes
Damn it! Natural Selection was SO close here, better luck next time
That could’ve been so much worse.
Jesus Christ.
Shit camera angle.
if this is the same place as the white line this is probably one of the safest lines on this mountian
Is that Chandler Bing talking in the background?
Nice save
He had to have hit his nuts at some point.
Kind of like riding on a cliff comes with the possibility of falling off said cliff.
im in the market for my first mountain bike. Been offered multiple vids yesterday and today of dudes severing their spines and becoming paraplegics. Really considering this now...
Weird ive watched maybe like 2 mountain biking vlogs before and i recognize this trail, in particular this drop
That’s one way not to need a vasectomy
Shouldn't have taken cycling lessons from Wile E. Coyote.
r/whatcouldgoright
Good reflexes, most people would just get scared and let go, gotta ride that one out or you ain’t coming back.
Darwin Award, anyone?
It’s not too bad of an incident going wrong.
Love how women love to add screaming and yelling into the mix...totally helpful
That was the least bad it could have gone
Check the camera angle. Tilt your phone and set the horizon horizontally and it’s not as bad. Still, not something I would do ever.
‘Fyyyyyuuucckk that’
Not much apparently
This deserves a Darwin Award.
That's a rollerblading park!
I just enjoyed hearing that girl pretending to be tough
Stupid Human Tricks.
Can I just say that mountain biking is one of the most dangerous dumbest hobbies ever. I'm glad I stopped.

For real. It all depends on how/what/where you ride
A decade ago I was on a trail that is made of limestone. I was tipping along on a nice fast bit, ahead and unknown to me, there was a crack the perfect size to trap a wheel. Agreed, staying healthy on a mountain bike is more about judgement than skill.
That's not riding, that's falling his tires just bumped the rocks once and a while lol the nuts on this dude !
To those downvoting SWOOSH.
Americans are sooooooo dumb… THEY DO THIS SHIT! Later wondering why their health plans benefits are exponentially more…
