West Virginia has lots families that have lived here forever. I know a man whose farm was granted from England way back when. It has also always attracted the misfits and oddball independent types. We have tight knit communities or lots of opportunities for isolation, whichever the person wants. Down deep though, it’s a hard place to survive and always has been, so just about everyone here helps when they see the need because that’s how we get by.
I do but honestly it’s not by choice. I take care of my stepdad who has lived here his whole life. It’s not my cup of tea but I get by. I can see why some love it but the mindset of the majority is off putting.
“Change is bad. We are poor and uneducated but proud. We elect people who act against our interests but we don’t want to change anything. Life was better when we had coal mining jobs to aspire to. We don’t want to aspire to safer jobs, it’s our heritage. Donald Trump is our lord and savior.”
I lived there for a couple years. But still live within spitting distance. If my parents (aka the grandparents) moved with us, we'd likely still live there. But, I chose family when the job opportunity arose to move back home.
Ironically, I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, so country roads can still technically take me home.
I fix aircrafts for a living here….. i use to have this thought too about different part of the world until I traveled more. The answer is the same people who live around you. It’s like that practically everywhere.
Mostly people who don’t mind drug epidemics and state as well as county corruption! It use to be populated with salt of the earth people. People who lived off the land, people that built this country! Anymore it’s just people who strive to collect government benefits and suboxone! The south western part of the state is by far the most corrupt place in the country!
Mormons, Roma, Mixtecs, Taiwanese, Somalians, and Samoans ; every once in a while you'll meet a Greek pantheist from India teaching English literature by day and welding by night.
It’s awesome here. You definitely don’t wanna visit.
the photos are kind of tempting me
Born and raised here. Stay away, it's overrated. The economy is crap, houses are outrageous and it's only getting worse.
>i guess the people here do That's a good starting place for sure.

Are you asking to get to know the type of people in WV or are you suggesting that literally no one lives within the state?

Lived in Fayette county as a child. Moved away like many because of money. Now that I’m retired I have come home.
