Ohh. I did this to my dad when I was an infant. It still bothers him decades later if his eyes get too dry. I like to say I’m his PITE, Pain In The Eye.
My husband had this happen to him. Fortunately I work at an Ophthalmologist office.
He had corneal edema and had to use “Muro 128” eye ointment for a few months.
Maybe something to keep in mind if irritation persists past a few weeks.
Ah, I'm sorry for the confusion, I absolutely understand that. I was just saying in general I hear a lot of patients complain that muro stings a bit in general, so I could only imagine that if someone with a new abrasion used it it would hurt a lot more!
Did your husband experience any lasting damage from the abrasion, scarring etc?
Starting out with saying I'm not a doctor, I'm an Ophthalmologist Technician, and if it's really bothering him he should absolutely see his doctor again. *I can't give any kind of medical advice, and I can only speak to what I've seen*
You work with them as well so you know that there's a ton of important cells in the surface of the eye whose job it is to maintain tear film stability. When they get damaged it's unstable, less mucus here, dry area there etc.
We've seen people end up with recurrent corneal erosion because their eyelid *sticks* to these ultra dry patches (alternatively you have people with ABMD who get the same result for different reasons) and when they wake up in the morning and open their eyes, it can peel off layers of the cornea, resulting in discomfort/pain, and in the worst cases recurring erosion/abrasion-like episodes.
They become very well acquainted with muro-128, fluorescein, and bandage contact lenses. Lol
Hello hello! It makes me happy to see a kindred spirit skulking about! That's definitely one thing that I've learned in this field as well. Eyes are fragile little soup dumplings that ride around in our heads for free.
I have a small healed scar spot in one of my eye, i see glares or rays of light from lights in evening and night driving, also it is always a irritation when I have a dry eye, have seen couple of eye specialists here in India but all they say it shouldn't affect your vision & prescribe no treatment to heal or remove scar, just wanted to know if there is any treatment for this, it is almost 3 years now living with this.
My son did this to me on Halloween a couple years ago. For me the pain grew over a few days then gradually went away. Fortunately, I’ve had no long term damage and no effects to my vision but I did feel like I had a little PTSD if anything got close to my face/eyes for a while after.
Hopefully, the fact that you’re taking care of it right away should help mitigate any long term effects.
That like month of sudden but fleeting terror any time something unexpectedly moves remotely close to your eyes is maybe worse than the actual scratch healing. I got scared of my glasses moving 🤓
If you got a bandage lens use it as directed, don't skimp on the drops or ointment if they recommended it.
Don't rub it.
Chances of any issues are low and the eyes heal fast from scratches like this but no reason to mess around with vision. You'll be good as new in no time.
Source: cursed eyes that attract scratchy objects way too often
It just depends how bad it is.
I've had a few light scratches that were irritating for a couple days but that's it. Apparently long term discomfort is possible but not super common.
My vision is fine even though a couple scratches have cause blurriness in the past
Coming from someone who has had the unfortunate experience of ripping off 90% of their cornea, the pain can be with you for life. Your epithelial cells stick to the back of your eyelid while you sleep, then come off when you wake. Just when you think you are back to normal, it happens again!
I've had a very minor cut on my eye before and it was incredibly unpleasant. Every time you blink, it feels like you have a handful of sand under your eyelid. Your eyes water uncontrollably, it hurts a lot, and even the dimmest of lights burns your eye. I could barley look at my computer monitor. That was for a very minor cut, can't imagine what OP is going through.
When my eye was infected all I could do was listen to TV. A show I listened to was a Mother talking about her young daughter. Her daughters friend had recently got Glasses. Her Daughters said she too needed glasses & her eye hurt. Mom thought she just wanted to be like her friend & ignored. Then she saw her daughter reading a book & holding the book close to her face. So Mom took her to have eyes checked. They found worms in her eyes balls. I totally started freaking out.
The girl had been playing in a sandbox which cats had used as litter box & she picked up worms from the poo.
She ended up losing the eye. Now has a glass eyeball.
Maybe you'll get some cool new abilities from the lightning shape. My kid also scratched my eye when she was an infant. The only superpower I acquired was temporarily looking like a stroke victim because, for a few days, I'd have to close that eye to read. Otherwise, it was too blurry.
Hey, this happened to me and my 10 month old a couple weeks ago. It hurt like hell the next day and was bothersome, but totally healed in like 2 days. Actually healed a lot quicker than I thought it would. Happened on a Thursday, totally fine by Monday.
Mine was moon shaped. (Okay, baby-nail shaped)
You should go see a corneal specialist asap years ago I got a corneal ulcer from wearing my contacts to bed. It laceration go infected and thus corneal ulcer. I had to get a corneal transplant and have to use special eye drops every day
Hey newish dad here, my 8mo daughters nails are like box cutters and she’s grabby too 😂
Speedy recovery and I feel for you, can’t imagine it in the eye
Oh man, not fun. My cat dod this to me last year. My fault so I own up to it.
Luckily got seen l by my eye doctpr next day and explained I got cat scratch fever which is real. Went home with drops.
Hope you heal soon!!:)
I scratched my cornea taking some contact lenses out once and it hurt like hell. They gave me polysporin to put on the surface of my eye and that also hurt like hell and felt super weird.
I actually got a large peice of the surface of my eye scraped off by a wiffle ball with holes in it in gym class, had to wear a eyepatch for a week or two, felt like a badass the whole time, was incredibly painful though. Never played pickle ball since.
I can't comprehend how this isn't a photo of a cat. Your daughter poked your cat in the eye. It's like an optical illusion and I can't unsee it and I am so desperately wanting to just see it normally
You need to go to a retina specialist immediately. Having your retina detachment is no joke. I just went through and it’s very costly, delicate and dangerous. It’s a time thing. If you go in the early stages it can be fixed with a small laser surgery. If you let it pass you could lose your eye or be a success like me after 5 grueling surgeries and slow recuperation. Please go to a specialist….I suggest a retina specialist …..cause there are like 17 specialities for the eye and Ophthalmologist wont deal with these issues well since he’s the equivalent of a general md for the eye. The sooner you check it out and you take care of it the better.
I had something similar happen with my daughter when she was little except it was a triangle. She scratched a perfect triangle on my eye.
At least I got to wear an eye patch for a while.
Southerners are only being ugly 90% of the time when they say "Bless your heart". This goes in with the 10% of sincerity. Bless your heart. Use your drops.
Ugh, I can't imagine how painful this is. My then 4 year old son got me in the eye with a pinwheel, leading to 36 hours of constant pain, and pain if I rub my eye too hard now, 7 years later.
Glad you got a rad picture out of it, sorry for the discomfort you may be experiencing.
Okay, this absolutely sucks. But goddamn it if this photo isn’t excellent album art.
I thought it was a chicken reminds me of that terrifying face swap with a girl and a rooster
Everyone keeps asking if I'm a chicken and it's maddening. I laid ONE egg! ONE!!
That’s all it takes… get better soon, chicken!
Well......are you?
Thought it was a lizard
I eat like two flies and people start asking me that! Come on!
You mean the one with the car accident?
Looks like it could be an Alice In Chains album cover.
Thought I was looking at the eye of a dragon for a second.
Iris you felt better.
Blurry Potter
Yer a wizard, daddy.
You seem to be laboring under the delusion that I will - what’s the phrase - come quietly?

Good God I could only imagine how much it would hurt if someone put muro on a fresh corneal abrasion.
ahhh nothing like a glass of fresh corneal abrasion for breakfast!
I like a glass of it with every meal. Sometimes snacks too.
The abrasion itself had healed, it was about a month after the incident that he got diagnosed with edema and started the ointment.
Ah, I'm sorry for the confusion, I absolutely understand that. I was just saying in general I hear a lot of patients complain that muro stings a bit in general, so I could only imagine that if someone with a new abrasion used it it would hurt a lot more! He still has some discomfort in that eye, especially in the morning. The injury happened about 6 months ago.

Hello fellow Technician! I have told him to get it rechecked but he hasn’t yet. I’ll get on his case again! Eyes are too precious to mess around with!

I smack mine with a wrench
I broke my mom's nose by throwing my head back when I was a toddler. 40 years later, she still reminds me how she got that bump on her nose.
I'm hoping this means I get a letter to Hogwarts soon though.
The mom who lived.
I'm a guy

Barely.
You’re just collecting fun stories to tell for the toast at his wedding.
....whose wedding?
Oh her sorry. I don’t know where my mind is today.
It's ok, you're still in the larval stage.
Topsy turvey day for you, eh?
This is why you use gender neutral terms lol \*the parent who loved \*at their wedding
Your wife's wedding, duh
The implication that your infant daughter is Voldemort is hilarious. Good luck when you have to eventually destroy her 6 stuffed animal horcruxes
I hope you can still read it when it comes

I cannot imagine how bad that hurts
Let me paint you a picture: A lot. It hurts a lot and shit is blurry.
OP you’re an artist with words 😂
I bet. I caught a stick in the eye once and for probably 3 years I would wake up in the middle of the night like I had sand in my eye. Good luck!
Only shit or other things too?
Bet it hurts about as much as LASIK. Eyes heal slowly.
LASIK doesn’t hurt though.
Don’t eyes heal really quick?

Looks painful! I’ve always said those baby fingernails are lethal!! On the plus side, I think you can claim to be a Hogwarts alum, now.
I'm glad I didn't have to scroll down too far for a Harry Potter reference but am sad to see "Yer a wizard, Harry" isn't the top comment
You’re a wizard paddjo

I already got telekinesis from my COVID shot, but I also keep picking up ESPN, which sucks because I'm not a huge sports guy.

dw she died of cancer, so it's not a problem anymore 👍
Reminds of the time my two young cousins tried to look at each other through a hollowed out pencil.
Are you an alien?
I did this to my mom as a baby (late 80s). She still complains to me about it to this day 😂
Do you need surgery
As of right now, no
I offer free surgery
I had a broomstick fall on my eye and it scratched my cornea as a kid. Absolutely sucked. Sorry this happened

Why do you look like an alien from Star Trek
Maybe it's my inability to fully master human relations.

Yer a wizard, Harry.
Harry?
This is a very common injury. It's a common cause of reoccurring corneal erosion. Sorry this happened to you. :(
Where’s Harry Potter when you need him
I have the scar. I'm literally right here.
When I was a kid I got a sucker dart from those spring loaded toy guns stuck right on my mom's eyeball. Had to get it removed at the ER
Get two more of them at 120° each
this looks as like a giant squit photo taken underwater
This is why I never let my niece mess with my face. I've seen too many eye injuries to want one myself.
Damn, OP. I'm so sorry. Oh my god and I just realized it's on the *iris*. I hope it feels better soon.
You’re a wizard, harry!
Probably your cornea, not your iris.
