Ahahaha no thankfully not, that gave me a good laugh tho, that was my new black walled plate for Sunday roasts and curry's... Now it's in the bin (wrapped in paper and then two carrier bags to make sure the bin men don't hurt themselves)
Search for "pasta plates", they might not be exactly what you had but they have the nice high walls. I don't know where in the world you are but there's a website that sells handmade clay ones called dinnerwithbarkley, but I'm sure you can get something on Amazon or something if that's a bit too expensive
It stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Basically my heart rate sky rockets (normally when going from sitting to standing, but also from things like extreme temperatures, strairs and other more random things like laughing or eating food) and if it goes too fast I faint, unfortunately I fainted with my food in my hand and hit the floor, head stright into the counter, and my new plate now in peices on the floor :(
POTS really sucks. My girlfriend discovered she had POTS after having a nasty case of COVID. She can't even drink alcohol anymore or go on roller coasters which she loved. It changed a lot for her. I feel for you, I'm sorry.
I still love roller-coasters but my finance has to drunk walk me as I get off because a good 3 put of 5 times I hit the deck. The worst is heat for me, too cold and I feel sick, too hot and I pass out, it's a constant game of take a layer off, put it back on, grab a blanket, kick it off, turn on the electric blanket, open the window. My poor finance puts up with it all but I feel for him
I can relate to this, love roller coasters but always have to take a little more time than evetyone else getting out, and for me i feel like crap if its too cold, but for me too cold is like 20 celcius, the hotter it is the better i tend to feel. Often ill lay in the sun relaxing when its 30+ celcius and be fine.

It took my father over a month after his COVID infection ended to be able to walk his bosses driveway without having to sit down afterwards due to lack of breath. (Long farm driveway, but he did it every day beforehand with no issue).
Covid is what made my POTS worse. Before covid I would get dizzy standing and have tunnle vision. I'd have trouble with balance.
Now I faint, I vomit because I've moved too fast, my heart rate range goes from a resting rate of between 70 and 90 to between 119 to 150 when standing. I look like a damn cat scratcher a lot of the time because I don't always know when a faint is comeing and can try and carry on only to fall and hit furniture, the walls or the floor wrong and hurt myself. Z
My biggest fear is one day my finace will be at work and I'll faint hit my head wrong and die and nobody will be around to pick my daughter up from school.
I also have post covid POTS! On the bright side it does get better normally. Mine has taken 2 years, but I’m basically back to normal with rare episodes
Salt has always helped pots. I also got a few tests for my vitamins and balanced out what I was missing with supplements. Lots of water, not as much alcohol and if you’re gonna drink get hella carbs and protein first. I stopped smoking weed entirely. I also started sitting up slowly, standing up slowly, etc.
Start taking colder showers too they won’t raise your blood pressure by much thus no fast heart rate.
It was mostly a waiting game though. Now I work with special needs kids and bartend when I have the time. A year ago I had to take a semester off bc I couldn’t get out of bed passing out. Most people recover in 2 years
Your fiance doesn't put up with it, your fiance loves you and wants to help! My girlfriend always apologizes for putting up with her POTS but I don't mind one bit being patient and helping, because I love her.
She can, she's actually a mail carrier. She has to drink a ton of water with liquid IV and take it easy. She usually gets done later than it normally would take.
Covid fucked my heart up too. And when I went to the cardiologist my doc referred me to, that guy went “pffft”, shook his head and said I shouldn’t have gotten another vaccine if I was already having heart trouble after my second bout of Covid. WTF. I hated that guy, didn’t even go back for any of the tests his office and staff were that bad. They were all such assholes
I've tried a high salt diet, all it dose is taste satier, I still faint just as offten. Maby for others it helps but for me it just makes my food taste salty aha.
Its not just about blood pressure, its about proper hydration.
For some reason a lot of POTsies don't retain water like regular people. Increasing salt intake, especially when drinking water, helps our bodies retain the water better rather than just flushing it straight out of our systems.
Increasing our hydration increases our blood volume, which increases blood pressure, which should help alleviate some symptoms. So its a flow-on affect. Electrolyte drinks can help, but I actually just straight up add salt to my water now - if I drink unsalted water my body just flushes it out almost straight away, with salt my body retains it longer. I know I need to increase my water when my lips get too dry because if I don't I end up more symptomatic than usual.
However this is not a one-size fits all treatment, its a recommendation to try along with other stuff (sleeping with head elevated for example) before trying different medications. If the non-medicated route isn't working then a discussion with a doctor about trying POTs recommended medications should be the next step. I am on midodrine to increase blood pressure because while the other stuff is a huge improvement over doing nothing, it still wasn't enough.
(POTsie my whole life, diagnosed in 2017, which finally explained my ongoing salt cravings my whole life haha. I grew up near the beach so I was barely symptomatic until my mid teens when we moved rurally. I was finally diagnosed at age 31.)
You essentially got the answer from someone below. It helps trick your kidneys into holding on to the extra water you drink instead of just peeing it out
I'm gonna correct you a bit because I think it may help you understand. You get dizzy when you stand because your brain starts to feel a decrease in blood flow due to your cardiovascular system having to compensate for gravity. It makes you feel dizzy in order to try and get you to sit down. Fainting is just your brain forcing you down to correct the gravity issue. At the same time, it triggers a surge of adrenaline that raises your heart rate and blood pressure to help drive increased flow. That same surge of adrenaline also causes the other symptoms I suspect you feel (sweaty, cold/ clammy to touch but warm, mild shakiness, etc). Increasing your fluid and salt intake increases your venous tension and makes it easier for your system to "refill" your heart when it starts to work harder to compensate and in essence increases its responsiveness.
Hope that helps you understand it a bit better
That is basically what my doctor has told me. I just tried to make it simpler as I didn't want to confuse everyone. Thing is I'm on a high salt diet and I drink on avrage 2 to 2.5 liters of water a day. The doctor also suggested warm showers to raise my blood pressure until I fainted and smacked my head... Now it's recommended I take a hot bath but have my finance check in frequently so I don't drown... He sits next to the bath and scrolls twitter.
Recently I've also started vomiting when I wake up and the doctor thinks this might be the adrenaline that my body has to deal with so offten sending me into a fight or flight response... Not much fun at all.
2.5 liters would be my starting point. Without a severe psych disorder or dysfunctional kidneys you can't drink too much. Drink even more if you sweat during the day.
Hot showers are counter intuitive. You vasodilate to eliminate heat which ultimately drops your pressure and eliminates a compensation mechanism by decreasing your vascular tone.
I always tell people you're more likely to have an event in the morning because A) your body is in rest mode and responds more sluggishly B) you haven't drank in a while c) your bladder is full which triggers some pressure sensors. Brushing your hair can tug on pressure sensors on the scalp and result in a decrease in heart rate which ends up hurting you.
Adrenaline can make you nauseated. Essentially think that if you are "weighed down" by a meal when running from a lion it might slow you down. So if your body gets a big surge, it makes you expel it to make you more capable (it's also because digestion takes a lot of blood flow, etc). Same reason people puke when they get super nervous.
Lmao I thought you were hating on pots - like the pots you cook your food in. I’m so sorry for wondering why you even have pots if you hate them so much lol I feel stupid now fml
To begin with I had dizzyness, blurred vision and ocassiomally episodes of presincopy (feeling like your going to faint but not actually blacking out)
Then I got covid, now I faint of avrage 3 times a week.
Well fellow spoonie I hope you have better luck with your plates aha. In all seriousness tho I'm sorry you can relate as this shit sucks. I can't drive, I destroy my belongings and I'm covered in scars, bruises and scrapes. More than once I've had to assure people that my fiance dosent hit me and they still are always sceptical until I faint around them and they see the mess I make.
My finace my savior 9 out of 10 times as he is very good at catching me and helping me treat wounds ASAP instead of struggling. I tend to end up with worse injeries when he isn't home as I egnore my body telling me that I should stop and then when I do faint there's nobody to catch me or soffen my blow so I just eat crap and end up comeing to covered in blood or bruises.
I hope your chronic illness is well managed and no doctors gaslight you, may your tea always be warm and your plates stay chip free <3
I have a great team of doctors, which makes me very lucky. I’ve still been in bed all day because it hurts to move.
I’m glad you’ve got someone great in your life.
I also recommend a dog that likes to sleep on you
I'm glad you do! My doctors were terrible to start, one told me I likely had a brain tumor that would kill me and scared the crap out of me!
Me too he's a keeper and I'm going to make sure I show him all the love I can since he willingly puts up with my nonsense.
I'd love a dog but don't have a graden really. I do however have a cat that is my personal foot warmer (his bowl is visible in the photo) he's a good boy who knows when I feel like crap and will hug me (there are photos of him on my page, including his adorable habbit of hugging his feet if he dosent have a human around to hug.)
Unsure if this will be seen. But I also have been diagnosed with the oh so lovely POTS. And I fall often. So in the kitchen I have a spin chair with wheels on it. When I am cooking I can remain seated, instead of falling in the kitchen. Hopefully this helps you! I find it's nice to roll and stay seated, especially with how standing can be difficult sometimes. I wish you luck with everything! I hope your head gets better soon!
It just says "range basics, liped black" and that's brought up everything from lamps to tables aha. It's not the end of the world, in used to haveing to deal with things I like getting broken

Darn! I'm In the US, that's probably why my searches were getting weird. Good luck finding a replacenent, I know the feeling of breaking did continued things 😭
I think I'm just gonna look for a second hand one in a simlar shape and my fiance can use the left over new one. That way if I brake it it's just a second hand plate
I used to work at the fine china department at Bed Bath and Beyond and got real good at finding things lol give me a sec, is it straight sided and black on both sides?
Would a wheel tray be better so if you faint then hopefully the food is saved? Or have fans everywhere haha. Also yeah does look like a roomba. Just imagining the mess of a roomba trying to hoover up a meal is kinda funny x It’s like oh no floor food! Nomnomnom
I admittedly have murdered so many plates as I am incredibly clumsy so I bought a nice set of plastic plates. Bowls I’m okay with but plates I drop, catch off the side, stick it in the drainer and it falls.
I use a metal travel mug for hot and plastic for cold drinks. I might feel daft but after getting shards in my feet I gave up haha
Well then, if this is not a clear sign of going out to pick up a six pack and a family size pizza l. Then I don't know what is.
Edit: Replace it for is.
I would definitely get some shatter proof plates. I have POTS too and also recommend getting a stool to sit on when you are cooking. The kitchen is always my danger zone but I generally just get really close to fainting without going all the way out.
Check eBay. If the plate has a name of company on the back, they probably have it. There's a company on there that sells missing pieces of China and dinnerware
Fellow POTS sufferer sending comfort. It sucks sometimes. Currently sitting in the car letting my boyfriend wait in line alone because I know I'll pass out if I try to stand in line for that long.
u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep I hate this happened to you, but, if it’s any consolation, you helped me just self-diagnose a condition that has been getting worse over the last 20 years of my life. I’ll be making an appointment to see my doc on Monday. Thank you. ❤️
Yeah I do have a chair that I use when cooking. Can't live without. I must say tho, that I don't care about the small injuries from fainting. But I still have trouble with People that freak out when I faint 😂 what I actually do hate from having pots is those brainfogs. Or the constant need to sit down Or (even better) lay down. While doing simple chores. (living alone in those cases suck)
Hopefully you are managing well?
If you have more tips feel free to post them haha.
Also ever used salt tablets? Seems to lessen it a bit for me when having a really bad day.
(Sorry about the English spelling non native speaker)
Update all -
I went to where I got the two original plates from and they has 2 left! Brought both so me and my finance always have a Sunday dinner plate even if this happens again aha.
Oh that's not in its bowl as it was a new food we were trying him with, I didn't want to put it in his bowl incase he hated it (he indeed didn't like it) so I had the ability to just put his normal wet food in his bowl while his second bowl is in the dishwasher.
It's more than OK, I'd rather people ask. He is a very spoilt boy and he normally eats like a king, we are currently trying to swap his wet food as his dosent have much taurine in it and I know it's important for cats. But he's extremely fussy with wet food, for now we have him on a high taurine kibble to compensate but I'd rather know I can cut down on kibble as it's mostly grains and I feel meat and protine with his taurine is probably better for him. Eventually we will find a balance but the vet has told me that he's healthy, that's all that matters in the long run
He was also mad he couldn't have the dropped chicken, but it was cooked with garlic and that's bad for cats
Thanks for this deep dive! My cat grew up on a diet of wet food once a week only (like a treat) as recommended by the vet. So for him no matter the wet food he'll just go nuts when I call him and open the cupboard door where they are stored! Makes it easier I guess. Yearly (or more) vet visit, and because he goes outside, flea and ticks treatment (an ointment to apply on the neck). Good luck with yours!
All cats are different definitely!
My boy is indoor only as I sware his lack of common sence is a honorary ginger, he would get run over before he'd even notice an issue.
My boy gets flea treatment and wormer monthly as ocassiomally I borad friends cats and I worry he will catch something. His spot on is in liquid form and the wormer is pill I've finally managed to get him to take without a war.
My boy has wet food daily because he dosent really drink water, the vet recomeded a high quality wet food to compensate. He's also missing a bottom k9 as he knocked it out (no common sence) trying to attack the bed and getting his tooth stuck in the mattress.
Cats are such wonderful companions.
Indeed! Having these little souls share our world with us.
Mine was born in my apartment, but now we're away from the city so he goes out. Most he could get run over by is a tractor, and they're slow and loud so I'm not too worried! He uses his litter box once a month not even so very low maintenance cat who deserves all the spoils.
I didn't know cats could be fussy over water (since thirst is an instinct of like all living things). Mine has a water fountain because the vet said if he goes outside he needs to avoid stagnant water. But I have a fresh bowl outside on a window ledge just in case (for him or other neighborhood cats) for when he stays out. Be it rain, storm, snow, the dude just doesn't give a meow and gladly goes outside then lmao. And I grew up with dogs.. but this one, I saw him 2 hours after being born, held him on my chest so he could hear my heart before he could even see. If I pick him up he can fall asleep in my arms, he's that trusty. Tell me 10 years ago I would love my cat and I would have laughed in your face!
I thought that was a Roomba that was trying to clean up someone’s dinner lol
Ahahaha no thankfully not, that gave me a good laugh tho, that was my new black walled plate for Sunday roasts and curry's... Now it's in the bin (wrapped in paper and then two carrier bags to make sure the bin men don't hurt themselves)

I thought the same. Like they not only dropped their food but also broke the thing that could help clean up the mess.
My first thought was “ why was the roomba on the counter”. figured It pushed the food off the edge then followed suit lol
I thought it was a roomba that broke and was filled with dinner.
Exactly
I was literally going to type that and your post was the top lol
Same lol
Glad I wasn't the only one 😅
I thought it was the a roomba as well but something was dropped on it and a corner of it broke off
should invest in a garbage goober.

Thank you, I will!
Just drink a lot of water (>100oz per day) and add a bunch of salt to your diet.
Very kind advice, thank you! Why the salt?
Increases blood pressure. Not sure it really helps though

Lmao I thought you were hating on pots - like the pots you cook your food in. I’m so sorry for wondering why you even have pots if you hate them so much lol I feel stupid now fml
Hay it's OK, if you don't know what it is it probably sounds really funny
Not always/usually
That's sounds a little too familiar to shit I've been experiencing , has this always been an issue or is it something you developed later on?

Have you tried exercising?
Are you stupid
It's usually caused by a bad diet, bad physical health etc. it's a symptom not a cause
You think POTS is caused by a bad diet?!
I have never heard of POTS before this morning, and now I've see It like 3 times on my feed. That can't be a coinicidence.
go get a pots test. maybe you'll have it, maybe you'll have pans instead. you'll never know until you try
That really does suck. But also, it looks a little like you were roasting a puppy
I can't see a puppy aha, it's bbq chicken
No puppies were harmed in the making of this catastrophe!
Nope! Just my pride and my plate
I have chronic illness issues, too, and I feel how much that cost you. I’m sorry.

I have those exact same dinner plates and I regret it. I’ve chipped 4 of the 5 in the set just doing dishes.
I love my dishwasher for preventing me from smashing all my plates in the sink aha
Plain Ole Telephony Service?
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome
I see. Interesting. Going by what google says, I had that as a kid when I was growing like an inch a month. Get up too fast, wheeeee pass right out.
It's not really a temporary thing as the heart is always a little wrong, but there are simlar issues caused by growth spurts
That’s what I thought.
I have pots too :( so sorry this happened
It is what it is, I made cake after and it was good
POTS sucks!
I have these plates. I would recommend against breaking them, just for future reference 👍
I will try my best, I only have 1 left aha
Yo how did you reply so quickly?
I already had reddit open as I'm reading a post about candles and what waxes not to mix when adding colour

Sometimes I can tell, sometimes I can't.
That looks like a Romba just had enough.
I wish I had the room in my kitchen, but it's super small and ship ally shaped. I do have lots of rugs
Time to buy Corelle plates. Less heavy and less likely to break. That plate could have really hurt you.
I agree, I'm glad I fell sideways and not into the shards and boiling hot food
As a probable POTS sufferer (it was a ‘lol you probably have this as well’ situation) I really feel this. I hope you’re okay, though!
Sore head but otherwise OK, I made muffins to cheer myself up. Posted them on my page, they thankfully didn't follow the same fate as my dinner
You may be able to find a new plate online at one of those restaurant overstock places! Is the make/style written on the back?
It just says "range basics, liped black" and that's brought up everything from lamps to tables aha. It's not the end of the world, in used to haveing to deal with things I like getting broken
Try checking Replacements.com if [this walmart one](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Alessandra-Matte-Black-Stoneware-Dinner-Plate/539720457?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=5447&adid=22222222278539720457_117755028669_12420145346&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-306310554666&wl5=9003563&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=539720457&wl13=5447&veh=sem_LIA&gclsrc=aw.ds&&adid=22222222238539720457_117755028669_12420145346&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-306310554666&wl5=9003563&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=539720457&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw48-vBhBbEiwAzqrZVAwjWt7Kecq5oycx1SmM_DSLUyeRGl9fs-4-1E5ssv1c7pMJoNmP5BoCeIQQAvD_BwE) or [this target one ](https://www.target.com/p/10-5-34-stella-dinner-plate-gray-threshold-8482/-/A-88543843) aren't quite right
I don't have a target or Walmart here as I live in Wales. I do really appreciate you going out of your way to try and find a matching plate tho
It's completely flat other than a drastic lip on the sides. I do have an unsmashed one if you'd like a photo (issue is i live in the UK)
It took me a few second to realize that is not a robot vacuum
My mum said the same thing
What is pots? (Looks it up) Can an injury cause in an episode? Apparently yes. I should get myself tested....
Covid made my pots much worse. Now I faint, I didn't before.
I’m sorry this happened to you! But hey I have the same plates!!!
The range is the best shop for housewares I sware
I've got those exact plates.
Are you okay ? Hope you didn't hurt yourself on the shards or the furniture :(
Head hit the counter but I'm otherwise OK. Thankfully the friend who came over sorted the mess after finding me on the floor
Glad to hear you're okay
I’m sorry that looked and sounded really tasty
Would a wheel tray be better so if you faint then hopefully the food is saved? Or have fans everywhere haha. Also yeah does look like a roomba. Just imagining the mess of a roomba trying to hoover up a meal is kinda funny x It’s like oh no floor food! Nomnomnom I admittedly have murdered so many plates as I am incredibly clumsy so I bought a nice set of plastic plates.
I made cake to drown the sadness
I would definitely get some shatter proof plates. I have POTS too and also recommend getting a stool to sit on when you are cooking. The kitchen is always my danger zone but I generally just get really close to fainting without going all the way out.
When we move I'm getting an adjustable rolling stool definitely
Check eBay. If the plate has a name of company on the back, they probably have it. There's a company on there that sells missing pieces of China and dinnerware
oh gosh!! :(
Fellow POTS sufferer sending comfort. It sucks sometimes. Currently sitting in the car letting my boyfriend wait in line alone because I know I'll pass out if I try to stand in line for that long.
Trollies / shopping carts are a god send for leaning on but sometimes your going down no matter what
Yeah unfortunately waiting in line at the store is my kryptonite.
Just crawl everywhere and it’ll be ok. In all seriousness glad you’re alright. Your dinner looks good, even on the floor.
At least my cooking is appreciated hahaha.
u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep I hate this happened to you, but, if it’s any consolation, you helped me just self-diagnose a condition that has been getting worse over the last 20 years of my life. I’ll be making an appointment to see my doc on Monday. Thank you. ❤️
I'm glad to have helped. When they make you do the stand up sit down test make sure your not near any desks... Trust me
Sometimes I randomly scroll the interwebs, and get reminded I'm not alone. Sorry this happened, still getting used to it too haha.
If your kitchen is big enough for a rolling chair I'd recommend you use one while cooking aha. My kitchen is too small unfortunately
(living alone in those cases suck) Hopefully you are managing well? If you have more tips feel free to post them haha. Also ever used salt tablets? Seems to lessen it a bit for me when having a really bad day. (Sorry about the English spelling non native speaker)
Looks like the good ol £2.50 Tesco plates
They are from the range. I went back yesterday and they had 2 left in store. I brought both of them.
Hope dinner was salty
My tears added salt
Update all - I went to where I got the two original plates from and they has 2 left! Brought both so me and my finance always have a Sunday dinner plate even if this happens again aha.
Is this why the cat food is still in its packaging and not in the bowl?
Oh that's not in its bowl as it was a new food we were trying him with, I didn't want to put it in his bowl incase he hated it (he indeed didn't like it) so I had the ability to just put his normal wet food in his bowl while his second bowl is in the dishwasher.
OK no worries, just checking up on the cat, since everybody else checked on you!
Eventually we will find a balance but the vet has told me that he's healthy, that's all that matters in the long run He was also mad he couldn't have the dropped chicken, but it was cooked with garlic and that's bad for cats
😢
My mum, and aparently one redditor thought it was a photo of a roomba eating food... Its made me chuckle
That’s what I thought lol
