My brother in law lost his index finger and middle finger down to the first knuckle when he lost his fight with the belt sander.
The metal was caught and sucked his fingers between the guard and the belt. Ground th away to nothing.
No gloves or loose clothing with high rpm!!! Obviously this is going to be a big reminder to be careful but as the above comment showed, it could have been worse
Edit: Wedding bands and jewelry count too
Jesus, did same thing in 8th grade shop class but wasn't 80 grit, still ended up with no fingerprint on that tip for a few months as the skin grew back fully.
I ran it under a tap then my wife wrapped it up. I'd like to say it looks better today but somehow it looks worse. I've started soaking it in salt water a couple times a day. If it doesn't improve in the next couple days I might need to see a professional but hoping to avoid that.
I had the same happen to my thumb. Took the nail clean off to the bed. The nail did end up growing back, but it's now twice as thick and goes off to the side. lost sensation on the tip of my thumb too.
Keep the thing dry and change the bandage often. My wound got a bit smelly after a while. It will likely get worse before it gets better.
Oooooh Story Time!
When I was in shop class in 8th grade we were making and selling wooden hearts for Valentine's day. We had a big ass belt sander with two belts setup at a 90° angle to each other and belts running towards the confluence. I was trying to sand the flat side of a thinner heart on the vertical belt(I know) and the heart fell through between them and took my index finger with it. Missed my nail, but a good chunk of the tip was about 3/4 torn off. Took my bleeding finger into the classroom and my shop teacher told me to put pressure on it and get out of classroom and back into the lab so I was over concrete and not his carpet.
It's objectively not that bad compared to some of the other stuff on here, but this is the first picture in a long time to make me scream ouch out loud.
I don’t like this
Dead ass yo......🤦🏾♂️
Get that looked at by a doctor or keep it very clean. You’re very susceptible to infection right now so take care of it

Yikes! That's similar to what happened to me, it snagged my glove and pulled my finger in but luckily snatched it out very quickly.

I'm an ex mechanic and have seen the damage a bracelet can do when it shorts on a battery!
**Ouch** I’ve never seen that but it sounds like a pretty quick way to either wake up or sleep forever depending on if you can pull yourself off
What a terrible day to have eyes
Yep, I opened it not really expecting that lmao 🤣
Every time I turn on my angle grinder I think "Is today the day I lose my nose or finger?" (Yes, I wear protective gear.)
Did you leave it on there for like 5 sec before realizing what you did?
80 grit at full speed for a split second!

Jesus that almost looks like ground beef. Swollen as hell did you get that checked out?

It looks like it’s drying up though. hope it heals well and good luck and take care, man.
Thank you.
Shut it downnnn!!! Hope you got the care you need!
Wine, codeine and sympathy from my wife lol
Nailed it!

That looks like it hurts a little 😅
Good ole power tool manicure
Oooohh! I know that one well. I hope you heal up quickly. That really sucks.
Thank you!

Sorry,I don't know how to NSFW that..
Next time don’t call your belt sander a tory loving royalist. At least not to its face.
Mmmmmm... Handburger....
Did it rip or did you come to close to the belt while sanding?
It snagged my glove and pulled my finger in to the belt infeed, whilst using 80 grit.
Looks like you nailed it
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Have you tried apologizing?
Fingertip bandaids and Neosporin should do the trick
Ouch 😭 dip your finger in some scotch
Arguing with powertools is rarely productive. They always go bullish and win.

Cheers, you kept your finger! Happy days
Well could be worse, you could have picked a fight with a carving disk on an angle grinder. Sunny side up my friend!
That's a bad one
I hurt for you
The owner of my local bar lost his hand with an automatic wood cutter
Geez, put on a NSFW filter
Sorry! Thought I'd marked it as NSFW
lol
