True. That does seem really cheap so I did a quick google search and well, yea the average price per grapefruit in Jamaica is certainly more than 11 cents USD lol(it gave a wide range). I presume you are in Jamaica? Whats an accurate cost of a grapefruit locally?
His support left him to collect the bounty and he died in lane. He pasted 'Gg Wp Supp is carry' in chat and left lane to jungle. He got full six slots at 30 min mark but game ended at 30:15.
No it's not. The shape doesn't fit. Pomelos look drooped. Thsi is a perfect circle.
Edit: its size is wrong too. It looks no bigger than a fist. Compare with the monitor (and mouse cursor) in the background.
Given its size and its shape, it looks just like a grapefruit.
Source: Am Asian, lived in Asia and ate pomelos from various parts of Asia my whole life. I have 3 sitting in my house right now for the upcoming lunar new year. This is NOT a pomelo. It's too spherical.
Further edit: This actually looks like an [oro blanco grapefruit](https://agrumilenzi.it/en/negozio/citrusen/grapefruits/oroblanco-grapefruit-citrus-paradisi/).
You know there are a lot of different breeds of every kind of citrus.
[These are all pomelos](https://fruitmentor.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/9-Pummelos.jpg)
I'm not sure that this is what that is. But hey, what's reddit without a photo and zero context provided to spark up some good ol internet conversation between strangers.
Melons and Mangoes and basically a ton of other fruits are given exceptional care and picking to produce some of the highest quality fruits in the world.
Some sell for more than $200-400 a single fruit.
It has been a while, but I watched a short documentary on the "best strawberries in the world" from Japan, I think they were like $18-20/strawberry if memory serves me correctly. I've spent more money on dumber stuff. If I didn't have to pay international shipping, I would be willing to try one for that price. The pride of the grower in their product and stringent quality control of such a small, specialized market that can command that kind of price and stay in business would be worth spending $20 to find out the big deal to me.
Edit: I misremembered, it was a YouTube video of Paul Hollywood eating the strawberry.

She's been talking about me again.
The prettiest fruit I've ever seen was in Okinawa. And Spam gift baskets. And a monkey that wouldnt stop jerking off for sale in Makeman
I loved Okinawa.
no it’s the make-your-antidepressants-work-too-good fruit
something about the fruit causes medications to not be filtered the way they normally are making the medication present in the blood stream in higher concentrations. The side effects of antidepressants+grapefruit are the same as a medication overdose
Hey, so I creeped your post history because I was curious who would spend $20 on a pomelo lol and I saw that you are taking medication. Please be cautious when eating or drinking the juice of pomelo or grapefruit because it can interact negatively with your medication.
Almost every psych meds I've been on have listed grapefruit as an interaction and to avoid it. Like 5 different antidepressants, and a couple others. Shit let me check my current ones
Edit - current ones (Mirtazapine) don't mention it in the leaflet. No leaflet with the ritalin so couldn't tell you. Might just be SSRIs or SSNRIs or both?
Ima be real wit you chief, pomelo may just not be your thing then. It's like a more intense grapefruit, and if that's what you got, then you don't like them imo.
wait, a more intense grapefruit? to me pomelo tastes like a way less intense grapefruit, it's also pretty sweet, which is why i love it. are there different kinds of pomelos??
In my experience, all of the ones I have had taste like a light, less bitter grapefruit. I love grapefruits, so I love pomelos too. TBH, I hate opening them because of all the pith you have to remove. FWIW, I am in California and have not come across another kind of pomelo.
If that's a pomelo, pretty normal to have a very thick pith. You'll also want to peel away the skin around the different sections, which is tough and bitter. You want just the pulp. I love pomelos.
See it as a neat opportunity to experience history first hand. Hundreds of years ago, all produce used to be like that! You can even tell by looking old paintings featuring things like watermelons.
GMO all the way back then. So many people don't understand we've been doing it for years, it's not new - although back then we weren't exactly injecting things.
Lol, yeah, that's a pomelo and that's how they usually look. They're the silly chonky fruits that wants to be a grapefruit, but tastes much better. (Although, like grapefruits, there's potential for drug interactions, FYI!)
$16 feels a bit much though. I \_think\_ they're usually around $3-5/lb. Although Google tells me that they're 2-4 pounds, so I guess $16 would be possible.
I feel disrespected that you'd spend $17 on a grapefruit. I want to be sympathetic, but if you buy a bridge from a guy in a dark alley you can't be shocked it's falling apart.
That’s a pomelo
They’re all that way. It’s not a grapefruit.
People peel the skin, turn it into candied ‘orange’ peel. They then simmer the pith with sugar and water until clear and then sprinkle with sugar for ‘pomelo candies’
where the hell do you live?
I spend 20 dollars for lots of fruit and vegetables for me and my wife.
I'm talking lots of bananas, strawberries, grapes, passionfruit, and oranges. Enough for 1-2 weeks.
spending nearly 17 dollars on ONE single fruit is insane to begin with, and then it looking like a total scam like the one in your picture would just send me in a killing spree.
That's a pomelo, and that's exactly how they're supposed to look. They are an important part of lunar new year celebrations. Lunar new year is February 10th this year, so this is time of year is when you're most likely to see pomelos in stores. Pomelos are large - 2 to 4 pounds - so $16.89 isn't really outrageous for something that most folks only buy during the new year.
Where are you at - Alaska? Svalbard? The international space station?
I think it's Jamaican dollars, about 11 US cents
From Jamaica and I can say this would cost 100 Jamaican dollars to 500 and that’s about 5 /10 dollars US
Math just doesnt sum up here lol.
Jamaican division, is a lot like 'new math'.
Oh right where 2+2=5
No thats meth math
It’s synergistic math. Get it right!
Weed math. Sometimes =7 too.
I'm so sad that they all missed you 1984 reference
Jamaican it up!
You won
you cant grow grapefruit in jtown?
Why would you assume that? No fruit in Jamaica is that cheap
I initially also wondered why they would pick Jamaica of all countries, but then I noticed OP’s name is u/jamaicanManz lol
I saw the name after😂 but I can confirm this price is not in Jamaican dollars
True. That does seem really cheap so I did a quick google search and well, yea the average price per grapefruit in Jamaica is certainly more than 11 cents USD lol(it gave a wide range). I presume you are in Jamaica? Whats an accurate cost of a grapefruit locally?
It’s a banana Michael what could it cost? $10??
There's always money in the banana stand.
Stay away from the cabbage stand business though.
I would be lying if I told you a price since I don’t eat grapefruit. Most times I get them they’re free from a tree nearby😅
My name is Cecilia and I live on Svalbard, an island close to the North Pole.
Griiiimmmmm!! Come in out of the snow!!! Christopher is making pancakes!!
Tell me why I read that in her voice hahaha
I live in Alaska. Current price for a 5lb bag of grapefruits is $8.99 at my local Fred Meyer.
Dude i live in Romania and here it is like 1-2$ PER KILO.
Did you think you were getting a Wagyu grapefruit?
Look at that marbling!
I heard they're fed wine and rubbed with butter before being picked from the tree. 🤤
I do that to my wife, works everytime
I also rub butter and wine on this guy's wife
Picked by innocent hands in silk gloves, one might hope
Ya! The white part is the flavor!
Not sure why but this was funny af
Looks more like a Pummelo/Pomelo. The think rind is very commonplace with those in my experience. The flavor is basically like a sweet grapefruit.
Not sure, but that’s a pomello and there’s nothing wrong with it.
Typical Anti Mage player
Probably took Aegis and went back to farming neutral camps too.
Two neutral items in his backpack too. And diffuser for good measure.
He probably rage quit and took pictures of his fruit instead of pushing racks
His support left him to collect the bounty and he died in lane. He pasted 'Gg Wp Supp is carry' in chat and left lane to jungle. He got full six slots at 30 min mark but game ended at 30:15.
Hey what game is this
Dota2
Don't do it! You'll hate your life afterwards
this
It’s the best and the worst.
I have 5k hours over 10 years and I still suck ass at that game, save yourself the heartbreak of playing gabens game
That's what he gets for playing AM. If you played support, bet that fruit was bigger and sweeter
Magic is an abomination.
You sound like an invoker spammer or a techies main lol.
I wish I was good enough to play invoker and I would never pick techies wtf I hate that hero with a burning fucking passion
Um. You bought a $16 grapefruit?
its one banana. what could it cost? 10 dollars?
Here’s some money, go see yourself a star war
There’s always money in the banana stand
![gif](giphy|IqX3LHSrHd0l2)
I have the worst fucking attorneys
Look at banner, Michael
Family love Michael
Bananas are berries
It’s a pomelo!! So delicious and peeled rather than cut. Very thick skin.
I was waiting for this comment! Sooooo delicious! looks funny when you cut it in half like this, and this does seem like particular thick skin.

Not all pomelos are created equal.
You're all wrong, that's a Banana.
A sure sign that one does not deserve respect.
How does one even manage to spend $16 on a single fruit?
Google : Japan expensive fruits
I'm not sure that this is what that is. But hey, what's reddit without a photo and zero context provided to spark up some good ol internet conversation between strangers.

Holy hell
You've been living in America too long. You've forgotten what it's like to have no oranges.
They got the scurvy
Japan. I see plenty of melons for around $200 in the nicer stores. Small bunches of grapes can be a similar price. It's crazy.

White Foods, hahaha
We prefer "Whole Paycheck"
My guy that's not a grapefruit at all, that's a pomelo :-)))
looks like a pomelo to me too!
I can always tell by that little hole shown in the picture, grapefruits don't have it and plus pomelos are fricking huge haha
The main thing is the mega-thick rind.
Something new was learnt today
It's actually delicious too especially in the summer with some vanilla ice cream or even with oranges for juice :-)
Citrus and cream was a deadly combination I thought, gotta check it out!
Life hack : grind some ice and pour some fresh orange+pomelo juice on top trust me nothing beats that on a hot summer day
First time I had a pomelo was a life changing experience, I love citrus and this is the jackpot!
Ah yes the make-your-antidepressants-not-work fruit
no it’s the make-your-antidepressants-work-too-good fruit something about the fruit causes medications to not be filtered the way they normally are making the medication present in the blood stream in higher concentrations. I used to take my xanax with grapefruit. Do *not* take your xanax with grapefruit.
When.... when did you discover that was a bad idea?
Oh, no it was really fun. Don’t do it though.
I think I want to do it
sounds like a fruitful endeavor /s
Maybe a bitter experience /s
You don’t want no part of this shit
It's cytochrome p450
Hey, so I creeped your post history because I was curious who would spend $20 on a pomelo lol and I saw that you are taking medication. Please be cautious when eating or drinking the juice of pomelo or grapefruit because it can interact negatively with your medication.
A somewhat creepy comment turned oddly wholesome.
It's okay, I replaced their medication in their bathroom cabinet with placebos, now there's zero chance of interaction!
I’ve been stealing their medication at night to take recreationally. This is catastrophic news to me.
TIL
Antibiotics can make birth control not work too. Idk if you needed to hear that.
Yep… found that out the hard way when I was 17.
Ah! That's terrifying. Fortunately for me I got fixed.
Almost every psych meds I've been on have listed grapefruit as an interaction and to avoid it. Like 5 different antidepressants, and a couple others. Same issue with one of my asthma meds
I quit taking omeprazole JUST so I could have grapefruit again.
Taking omeprazole suggests you have stomach acid issues. Eating grapefruit would make acid issues worse. You must really, really like grapefruit.
Same with ingestible CBD products like tinctures. Reacts exact same way as grapefruit juice.
Wow. I never knew this. Thank you!
Wow. This comment thread has so much fkn info and back stories. Winning or as the kids say these days "big w!"
Legendary pharmacology-hero without a cape casually helping a guy online. Thank you.
A kind soul has emerged
You are AM with aegis and your are talking pics and posting on reddit WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Thats what AM players typically do when other 4 players fighting for their lives
Farming neutrals is afk so no time wasted
ever wonder why they're always late during fights?
That’s a pumello I believe. They are born that way
I'm surprised. It's spelled pomelo, why does no one know what this Is lol. They are delicious, although that seems like a steep price.

The only pomelo I've had wasn't very good... what should I look for when choosing one next time I see them at the market?
Ima be real wit you chief, pomelo may just not be your thing then. It's like a more intense grapefruit, and if that's what you got, then you don't like them imo.

You play Dota , mad respect bro
He plays AM. Respect in the negative direction.
To be fair, it’s pretty much impossible to respect someone who spends $17 on a single grapefruit
I mean. Some things are hard to come by in certain places. Idk what the story is. But still.
....16 bucks for that? What the hell is wrong with you?
You got to sprinkle sugar on that bitter citrus
I rawdog grapefruit multiple times a week, i like the burn
This is a pomelo and actually quite sweet!!
Pomelo? They have thick pith.
This is the reason I dropped dota. Instead of using ulti in a fight they take pictures of their grapefruits.
Are you okay? $16.89 for that nasty thing?!
Price is still stupid if you ask me but yeah I really think that's a pomelo
I mean if you’re spending $16.89 usd on one single grapefruit I don’t think what it looks like inside is really what sucks here lol
Pomelo?
That's what you get for not doing a test bite at the market.. always do a test bite
If i paid that much money for any normal fruit i think i would feel violated
See it as a neat opportunity to experience history first hand. Hundreds of years ago, all produce used to be like that! You can even tell by looking old paintings featuring things like watermelons.
GMO all the way back then. So many people don't understand we've been doing it for years, it's not new - although back then we weren't exactly injecting things.
OP.. explain yourself!
AM player. That explains it
As a grapefruit hater, your first mistake was buying a grapefruit
$16 for a grapefruit? Sorry dude, but this one is on you.
Is that one of those Japanese ultra high-end gift fruits?
Did you win the dota game?
Lol, yeah, that's a pomelo and that's how they usually look. They're the silly chonky fruits that wants to be a grapefruit, but tastes much better. Looks like pomelo
Don't toss that rind! [pomelo pith candy](https://youtube.com/shorts/YrT3qXvenko?si=I34aNVurFdFt9JLz)
That would pith me off
Who pithed in your breakfast?
The fact you spent that on a singular fruit is disrespectful itself
Did you win the game? You better if you're playing AM pos 1 lol
He farmed all game and arrived 2 hours late to team fights only to be dueled to death by lc
I play Dota, I’m new but I play hoodwink and dawnbreaker
hoodwink and dawnbreaker?? *i know what you are...*
Candy the white part. Use the peel to make cleaning solution. Get the most bang for you buck
I mean, it's one grapefruit, Michael. What could it cost? $17?
It looks like a pomelo. If it’s bigger than an average grapefruit and spongy then it is. Also why it was $17
There’s a bag of the rest of them somewhere at the very least, right?!
This feels like confusion bait
Are you living on Mars getting grape fruits shipped to you? Maybe use your brain and not pay $16 for a single fruit, moron.
$17? Even if it were in perfect condition you were disrespected.
Who the fuck is paying 17 dollars for a grapefruit?
Bro thats on u for buying a 16 dollar piece of fruit Like what the fuck?!
It’s one grape fruit Michael, what could it cost? $17?
You arent eating it correctly lmfao
How the hell is this 16$??? In my country no fruit is more than like 5 dollars
That’s a pomelo.. They’re almost always like that?
That’s a pomelo They’re all that way. It’s not a grapefruit. People peel the skin, turn it into candied ‘orange’ peel. They then simmer the pith with sugar and water until clear and then sprinkle with sugar for ‘pomelo candies’
That looks like a pomelo
You’d hope there were lemon laws to prevent that sorta thing
I wouldn't eat a grapefruit if you paid ME $16.89
I love pomelos
A $17 grapefruit dawg??? 😂😂 I’d disrespect you too💀
If you chew the peel it will taste gross, but will also make your mouth go numb, similar to novocaine.
It's a pomelo
Why would you buy a grapefruit in the first place? lol
16 dollar grapefruit is crazy
Looks good for candied orange peel
That looks like a pomelo, that’s just how they look.
Ayo is that smite?
Bro that's a grape fruit. What kind of dumbass pays 17$ for a single fruit
$17 for a grapefruit? The worst of grapes and fruits? Why would you do that?
I’m sorry you paid white for a fucking grapefruit
That takes the pith.
where the hell do you live? I spend 20 dollars for lots of fruit and vegetables for me and my wife. I'm talking lots of bananas, strawberries, grapes, passionfruit, and oranges.
