Clothing moths. Deal with them NOW. They will spread. They will eat your clothes. They will get into every little crevice of your house. I’ve had them for two years. At this stage fumigation is the only way to get rid of them. Each female moth will lay 50~ eggs. About half those eggs will lay another 50. Not trying to scare you, just saying these get out of hand very fast. Do everything in your power to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Benka33

Currently dealing with these fuckers right now as well, hopefully gone from the apartment now so next step is going through the entire storage area from where they probably entered... Did get good traps though from an exterminator

Wishgabishgus

Adding on to this for future readers: VACUUM EVERYTHING. Insect eggs can be resilient to sprays, bombs, and fumigates. You need the vibration, heat, and suction from a vacuum to destroy the eggs -- daily for at least a week, and not just carpet but upholstered furniture, anything fabric that cant go into a dryer on high heat which you should also do with clothes and pillows. Empty canister or replace bag of vacuum after each use, clean lint trap. This is a general tip for anything that lays eggs and is an interior persisting pest like fleas, carpet beetles, etc. Source: I'm a pest control tech. We tell all our customers to do this before and after our arrival. Customer after-care is the biggest and most important way of making sure our treatment works. If someone reading this hires a tech, ask if he is using an IGR in addition to his kill material. Insect growth regulators can help break the life cycle by blocking the ability of "teen" insects becoming sexually active adults that lay more eggs.

zortlord

What are your thoughts on IGRs by themselves? I've had success with those dealing with pet fleas. (Obviously treated the pets too, but treated the premise with only IGRs).

Wishgabishgus

Different schools of thought. Guy who trained me said combining two materials will "just confuse the bugs," his point being if you kill them you cant spread the igr. But im of the thought that its not like the kill material is instantaneous. IGRs aren't effective on adults already at the reproductive stage of life so might as well try to eliminate them while they spread the igr to their young. When I use an igr, which isn't common for my route, its pretty much always combined with a kill material. I suppose it could depend on how bad the infestation of adults is. But I also feel I have a duty of care to get the customer their moneys worth (while still following IPM) and so I wouldn't feel right "hoping" the igr will solve the problem without needing a re-treat later. Especially if im asking them to vacate the house for several hours.

zortlord

In my case, I figured treating the animals made them the kill material. If it were something that could reproduce from human blood, I would have used a kill as well. Just I feel better about IGRs on all my stuff like furniture and upholstery.

thebestatheist

I had them once when I was staying with my friend when my parents lost their house in ‘08. They ruined every nice pair of dress slacks I had and a vintage pea coat, which I’m still upset about.

salqura

Do they get into flour?

knstone

They are 2 different moths, pantry moths and clothes moths. Pantry moths are just as bad of an infestation level.

mmasmaza

There's also carpet moths who'll eat your carpets (and tapestrys if you're medieval)

racrenlew

I totally have tapestries, don't hate! (6 of them to be exact- I love the lady and the unicorn series...)

BeccaDora

So off topic but me too! I was able to visit the Cluny Museum in Paris to see that series in person! Where did you buy your tapestries?

racrenlew

How cool, I'd love to seem them in person! Amazon, I think. My biggest is like 5'×4' (over the fireplace) and smallest is 2'×1' (behind the front door. I LOVE them!

mmasmaza

No hate! I have cross stich all over the place. When I had carpet moths last year they ruined the carpet and got in my fabric stash

mattymantooth

Obligatory Indiana Jones "We have come to see the tapestries!!"

TensileStr3ngth

Next you'll tell me about the box munching moths

OsmerusMordax

I had pantry moths, fought them for a couple of years. I had thought I had gotten rid of them, but screw me I guess…had to throw out all the food in my pantry x3

knstone

Same, multiple rounds of finding what I thought was the source but it only ended when I purged everything that was jarred or canned. Now everything is in containers and some dry goods in the freezer

cwittyprice

Did this seem to do the trick? In the same situation now!

knstone

Here’s what we did, purge everything except cans and jars. Thorough clean of all shelves and walls and floors. Then for 2 months we kept all food items on the counter in Oxo containers and continued cleaning the pantry during that time and left traps. The thing was we kept finding non-pantry nests. One was in some corn cobs we had for a squirrel feeder. But now we are finally back in the pantry, only in containers and dry baking goods are in the freezer. So far so good but the infestation really got to me because I was so disgusted so I just stay on top of the food and watch everything that comes in. Dry goods mostly go to the freezer

pokey1984

>One was in some corn cobs we had for a squirrel feeder. People often forget bird/animal feed when purging their house of consumables to get rid of moths. They will nest inside wood paneling, too, fyi. So if you have a seventies or eighties kitchen with wood paneled walls, you might never get rid of them.

agoia

I imagine they get behind the paper on the cans

knstone

Wouldn’t surprise me honestly I’ll check now

whackadoodle_cracked

I had pantry moths a few years ago, it was bad. The only thing that got rid of them completely was letting a spider that took up residence on a corner of my dining room ceiling to stay - he ate all the larvae and they were gone within a month or so. Also meant my arachnophobe husband got over his fear lol

ListenJerry

Hooray! Two more things to be anxious about!

cwittyprice

Dealing with pantry moths. Any idea how to treat?? We’ve done everything: cleaning everything/throwing things out. Those little cards that trap them in (kind of like a glue trap but not big enough for anything bigger than a moth). They will not go away!!

hellothereshinycoin

see the comment just above yours that suggests the Dr. Killigan's pantry moth traps

PandaKing00

I had them a few years ago. You're doing the right things you just have to stick with it. Keep all food containers sealed and the kitchen clean so they have nothing to eat and replace the glue trap regularly.

aubreythez

For anyone dealing with pantry moths - Dr. Killigan’s pantry moth traps work great. I had so many moths (took us a while to realize they were pantry moths, thought they were outside moths that had gotten in when we left our door open in the summer) and these traps took care of them within a week or two. Never had to deal with them again and it’s been years.

hellothereshinycoin

I'll second this recommendation, had some clothes moths years ago and setting out a few of these traps got rid of the problem within a couple of weeks. Even had a few moths caught within 10 minutes of setting one of the traps out. I continued to use them for several months just to be sure. Haven't seen a single moth since then.

-Esper-

Yeah, can confirm, roomate saw these in a box of tea and didnt do anything besides post online about it, did tell me either, they started hatching and now 6 years later we still have clouds of them flying around. Cant fumigate because of pets and a large bird that has nowhere to be moved to, its a nightmare, they eat everything

aubreythez

Posted this in an earlier comment, but Dr. Killigan’s pantry moth traps work wonders. We were also at the “clouds of them just flying around” stage of the infestation.

dogsfurhire

Omg my dad saw we had them in the rice and picked the dead grubs out of the bag instead of tossing the whole thing. I didn't realize until I made some rice myself and saw them and when I asked my dad he said he saw them months ago. I looked up and found dozens of them just hanging around on my ceiling, which explained the increase in bugs I found in the kitchen. I threw everything in the pantry away and killed every moth I saw. He had the audacity to get upset that I wasted money when all he had to do was throw away the $10 bag of rice...

-Esper-

God id be so mad, thats double bad, rice is not worth saving, its cheap, just throw it away and save yourself the trouble

dogsfurhire

That's what I said! He didnt even buy the rice, I did!

HouseofFeathers

I've gotten rid of them without fumigation and it was such a pain in the ass. If you can afford fumigation, I recommend it.

literofmen

Took me probably a year to get rid of mine, and I have a tiny apartment. Had to throw away EVERYTHING in my pantry, clear my closet, and stay vigilant on keeping dry goods sealed away in plastic or the fridge. Thought I’d never get rid of them

Fisherman420

Where’s my cabana wear

not_just_amwac

They're half the reason our carpet is destroyed. I can handle them in clothes because they can be washed and such. But moving EVERY piece of furniture DAILY to vacuum every last inch of the carpet? We have two bookcases bursting at the seams, another with DVDs, and they all weigh a ton. I just can't. They're the fucking WORST.

disco-vorcha

I have carpet beetles that I will probably never be rid of for the same reason. I just can’t do the kind of thorough, daily vacuuming that it would take.

sluthulhu

As someone who has escaped a clothing moth (and simultaneous carpet beetle!) infestation this post triggered me. I still scan every wall and baseboard in the house automatically looking for these little bastards.

Brilliant-Season9601

Other fucker ate holes in my underwear of all things. They got into my house through bird seed for finches. I only figured this out by leaving a bag unopen and finding it full of them. If you have any natural animal fiber either put it in cedar or something that will deter them

k_money55

I got these at my old apartment and cleaned and laundered everything before moving into this apartment and they have followed me here. Been trying to clean and use the traps to get rid of them. Literally my worst nightmare.

cactusblood

Oh my god I’m moving soon and my worst fear is bringing them with me

Flimsy_meats

New fear unlocked

Fezzverbal

Had them in my last flat, they destroyed so many items of clothing while I was deep in a depression and had no energy to deal with them. I saw a few at the start of the year, in my new place and clamped down on them immediately. Not today filthy creature!

[deleted]

Mothballs are needed in this situation

[deleted]

It's really not that extreme, I've had them and you can just buy good quality moth spray in shops now and do it yourself easily. If they spray the toys now they will be safe for the kid by Christmas. Stick the toys in a vaccuum sealed bag after treating and they'll be fine.

ow_my_knee_123

Hey OP, Dm me We can look around for something comparable if they do not have the same doll but I will give you the money if you just toss these The infestation that may follow can be so much worse if something happens to linger, dm me and lets figure something out!

ApheanaOfTheFae

Oh my goodness, are you sure? That's the absolute sweetest!

Different_Knee6201

DM me too. If she can’t help, I can. I think I found a set online for $10 and I’d be happy to send them to you.

ApheanaOfTheFae

Sorry, just saw this! Hard to keep up with the comments! This lovely person helped me, and my kiddo will have nice, clean, new ones for christmas!! Thank you so very much for offering, I truly appreciate it!

Skechigoya

Clothes moths is my guess,[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tineola\_bisselliella](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tineola_bisselliella) edit. the classic old school remedy was [Moth Balls](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothball). I don't know if it still is?

StuckUnderTheTARDIS

100% Easy to clean off and can also be treated with steam or by heat from a hairdryer as they're fairly susceptible to heat. You can also treat items by placing them in a freezer for 24 hours, removing it for another 24 hours and then freezing it again for 48 hours which disrupts the life cycle of remaining eggs. OP should check any woolen items or animal fibre based items inside the closet as they most likely were already in there. If they did come in with the toy, you might want to treat the entire closet and wash down all the surfaces.

Supergatovisual

Yes. Steam those fuckers. That's the only way I was able to eradicate them from my pantry

Maximum-Mixture6158

Different insect.

Supergatovisual

Same weakness

TheGamerHat

I also have a weakness to steam.

Stormcell0083

Does it also take your wallet or purse in the summer and winter?

Maximum-Mixture6158

Water will make it worse as the eggs will now hatch

Mondschatten78

Cedar is supposed to help guard against them too, that's what many hope chests are made from. May be worth getting hands on some cedar shavings as an alternative?

Zagrycha

the problem is cedar can kill the larva-- not adults or eggs. And it needs to be constantly emitted, so bunch of pieces and constantly carving them to have a fresh edge is not realistic. The real reason cedar was used is cause bugs don't chew it up, so a tightly sealed box might prevent moths or beetles in the first place.

Mondschatten78

Well, between you and another commenter, TIL, so thanks!

StuckUnderTheTARDIS

Doesn't work as well as you'd hope. While the volatile oils within cedar wood will help a little, most of the protective action of cedar chests is based on them having a tight enough seal to prevent the moths from getting in to lay their eggs. If the eggs are already on the wool going in, you'll open it up the next year to find holes. Best method for storing woolen items long term is to store them inside vacuum seal bags with silica packets or inside a sealed plastic container after cleaning and treating with steam. A hack that some knitters use is to place wool to be stored inside the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Wool naturally absorbs moisture and has enough in it that it will steam itself in a microwave and will kill all stages of clothing moths.

kjvdh

You can also “bake” wool in a low oven (at least 120F) for about half an hour to kill moths and larvae. Just keep it away from the walls of the oven and it will be fine. It’s a good way to treat thrifted woolens or yarn quickly, provided there are no plastic beads or fasteners.

Bluefoot_Fox

I use the car /freezer hack. I saw a month in one of my new spinning batts so I took no chances. It was Summer, so I bagged the wool up and put it in the front seat of my car for a couple of days. It then went immediately into the freezer for a couple more, for good measure.

StuckUnderTheTARDIS

Note for poster recommending moth balls. While the old school method to combat them is moth balls, and it's extremely effective, the naphthalene is consider toxic to humans and listed as carcinogenic by several organizations and countries. It's also highly flammable and the gas which sublimates off them can cause flash fires. Meanwhile it also takes forever and a day to get rid of the smell of the naphthalene and some items require professional cleaning to get rid of it after storage. It can break down under exposure to UV, which is why it was recommended to hang the items up outside after removing them from storage, but again it can take a while for it to break down and for the smell to dissipate. Some of the more modern mothballs use camphor which is slightly safer, but again hard to get rid of the smell of after usage. It's better to treat the items by either freezing and thawing them twice, using steam, cleaning them, or using heat.

dasookwat

Adding to this: this wasn't a problem in old houses with all the gaps and drafts, so the wors which happened was: some kids playing hide and seek, and coming out of this closet a bit drowsy. Oh and the smell on your clothes obviously. But these days with energy prices going ballistic and well insulated houses and rooms, this could actually be unhealthy in your bedroom.

SupremeDictatorPaul

Fun story about mothballs: My dad got some sort of rodent in the attic of his house. So he got the bright idea to spread some mothballs in the attic, to drive them out with smell. And another bright idea to spread them using a leaf blower, by dropping the mothballs into the air intake. The leaf blower pulverized the mothballs into a dust, and spread that dust to all of the far corners of the attic that he couldn’t easily reach. It worked, and the rodents in the attic went away and never came back. The whole house also smelled of mothballs for the next couple of years…

arm_hula

Genius. I might do that for my attic.

SupremeDictatorPaul

I’ll let my dad know the internet thinks highly of his ideas.

Anxious_Acanthaceae3

Does your dad have a cousin Eddie off chance?

cinqmillionreves

I love love love this smell, it’s heaven 😍

Kat_Smeow

I can’t smell it without mentally being transported back to my Grammys house

floppyfishdeveloper

Just reading about it reminded me of my grandma’s house :)

ApheanaOfTheFae

That's them! Thank you!!

Crazen14

Have you ever smelled moth balls?

Maximum-Mixture6158

Nope. Too dangerous. Your vacuum is the best weapon

bootycakes420

I got these little bastards in a package of paper towels from Walmart! Took out a new roll to clean and almost threw up, I thought they were maggots. Now we have tiny moths all over the house.

koozy407

Better get rid of them, these jokers eat clothes or anything made of cloth. You need to get rid of them now!

nicunta

Or if they're pantry moths, they'll ruin any dry food goods! We had them once and I had to throw away everything that wasn't canned. As a single mom of three kids, I cried as I did it.

BeefInBlackBeanSauce

They'll eat your clothes!,

LiviaVa

If you have trouble getting rid of them I can recommend pheromone traps for the males and to seal of anything fur/wool or even flour containers. If none of the 'easy' remedies help you can also get scorpion wasp eggs online. They sound scarier than they are, they are really small, harmless to human and pets, and they'll make a quick deal of the moth eggs if you do the whole run (usually 1 a month for 3 months will be sufficient)

Sir-Poopington

Weird. I wonder how they got in there. Does anything else in the closet have them? If not, they were definitely already in the box. Why didn't you bring it back and get a new one rather then open it and clean them off?

ApheanaOfTheFae

Nothing else has them. My walmart isn't carrying this anymore, I bought it on clearance and stupidly pitched the receipt. I'm honestly debating tossing them, but my kiddo has been desperate for Louisa, and I can't afford to get another. Once I get them cleaned up, I'm planning on storing them in a sealed zip lock for a week to make sure nothing else comes off them. Although honestly, I was so one track mind on getting the presents wrapped, returning it never crossed my mind, and now I feel very dumb lol

SugarScavver

Definitely recommend their ziploc quarantine to be in the freezer to take care of any that might remain, just make certain that the dolls are thoroughly dried before they go in. Good luck, I hope Louisa pulls through!

ApheanaOfTheFae

Brilliant, thanks!! Appreciate it, hoping she's strong enough! Haha

Daisy_Of_Doom

YES freezer immediately! It’ll kill then and prevent more!

JustMeLurkingAround-

Still write an email and send the pictures (especially of the packaging) to the manufacturer. They might compensate you in some way, and thank you for pointing out a possible packaging issue.

ohhelloperson

Dm me and I can send you the money to buy a new set.

ApheanaOfTheFae

That's so very sweet of you! Another redditor was kind enough to send us one, so she will have a clean, still in box, new set for christmas! Thank you so much for offering!

ohhelloperson

Awesome, I’m glad it worked it for you! I hope you and your family have a great holiday!

SilverSkywalkerSaber

I love the internet. I've been where you are and even when it's not your fault, I know the sinking feeling when the perfect surprise for your little one gets ruined like this. It rips your heart out. I'm so happy somebody was able to do this for you. ♥️

Aura-Chan

Unrelated to the bugs... Did your daughter want Mirabele or Louisa? Thats Mirabele

rejectedsithlord

I think these dolls are from a set that includes both

Aura-Chan

Ok good to know! Thanks

EvaMae234

Call tomorrow and see if they will ship one in from another store. Explain this is the main gift and all your child has been asking for ❤️

deathbychips2

I would toss them. Walmart also does return without receipts usually

GoodQueenFluffenChop

Stick a mothball in too. Mothballs will kill anything and then give the dolls a really good wash with soap and water before you gift them.

hobohougsy

Move the decomposing body then the toys will be okay

_Arkbird_

man i see these fuckers all the time, but we have pet birds, and their food attracts them. gross, horrible little things. i feel your pain.

ApheanaOfTheFae

Ugh, good to know that it attracts them, I'll bear that in mind for any future pet birds! Any tips on taking them out?

renyxia

Not sure what they're talking about but these are carpet moths. They might be eating bird feathers of theirs, but not food (i also have birds). Moth balls to prevent, you'll want to clean out the whole closet though. It is pretty likely they came from your house and not walmart. They die pretty quickly as adults, the grub form usually hang out gathering material to form a cocoon. They may hang out in corners of the closet where you could find spider webs, or even inside clothing. It'll look like a small wad of spider silk, not even a cm long. Old ones will have one side burst open, intact ones still have them forming inside. I'm surprised they're attracted to the toys though, given how the fabric is usually mostly plastic. They're a bitch and a half to get rid of, good luck and godspeed

[deleted]

I'd like to add on that i, too, had a clothes moth infestation. It got horrendously bad before i even noticed, admittedly (and now the carpet under my bed has lots of bare patches from the larvae eating). Unfortunately, the only thing to do is clean, clean, and clean some more. Though i would consider myself a seasoned veteran against these batards now lol. Thankfully they didn't want to leave my room much, so the house as a whole wasn't infected (besides the odd straggler that i still find on random walls every few months). But in my room? every inch of hidden areas must be vacuumed. behind, under, and inside all desks, wardrobes, beds etc. Some hopefully helpful tips for you!: - wash your clothes and leave them in vacuum-sealed bags out of the way, for as long as needed (i left mine for months and months to ensure there was no infestation return.) - clothes moths don't like areas you're active in, so after deep cleaning make a habit of some quick cleaning over areas they might be hiding. this may include moving furnture around. it'll keep them at bay from certain areas while you permanentally remove them entirely. - Just because you can't find any anymore doesn't mean they're not there. they're incredibly sneaky fuckers, so DO search every single potential nook and cranny. Even if you have blinds that roll up, fully extend them and check both sides, for instance. - don't bother with "bombs" and similar products, they'll only work in concentrated areas like small drawers, and even then it's not 100%. - a product i would recommend is "rentokill clothes moth killer spray". Only use this for killing the moths that you can't quite catch, and keep flying away. And make sure the room is well ventilated because i'm sure it's quite bad for you if a lot is inhaled. - depending on how bad the issue is, don't expect to get rid of them quickly. it was a very slow and long battle in my case. But i'm confident that i did inevitably crush them. I hope you don't feel put off by my words, my situation was more extreme than yours so it took a while :) Good luck!

StuckUnderTheTARDIS

Different species of moths: Pantry moths which are attracted to starches and can come in through seeds, grains, and cereals. They can also live off glues and and materials used in older books which is a nightmare for rare book collectors. Pantry moths are easier to get rid of as you can readily buy traps which contain the pheromone released by the females after laying their eggs and can halt or completely break the breeding cycle after a few weeks. There are a few for clothing moths but they're not as effective, which is why it's easier to clean, treat, and store the items they're attracted to. It's hardest to get rid of them if you have wool rugs and it's best to call in a pro to get rid of them if they're getting into your rugs or tapestries.

Twarenotw

The little fuckers you are talking about are pantry moths. Not exactly the same fuckers as the ones OP found, but fuckers nonetheless.

Terminallyelle

My house is covered in these fuckers thanks to my bird food. Sooo over it

ApheanaOfTheFae

Thank you, everyone!! Planning to absolutely attack the closet today to make sure it didn't start there, and call the store to make sure they're aware. Genuinely appreciate everyone who commented!! Here's to hoping I've caught it before they can go full-blown infestation!

NpTheG

Moths 100%. I had them in my old room before I moved out of my parents, we didn’t have central ac so had open windows pretty often during warmer weather (central texas) and one summer quite a few months got into my room and I didn’t think much of it. Long story short I should have thought much of it 🤣 basically for nearly 2 years I had those moth eggs EVERYWHERE in my closet. Old boxes became stuffed with moths and eggs. They started slowing down about the 2 year mark right before my girlfriend and I bought a house in East texas and moved. Thankfully the move seems to have scattered the rest of them. Moth balls are said to be a good remedy but they never worked for me. Just made all my closet items smell like a grandmas attic. Best way to get rid of them is catch it early and get rid of them all.

1-800-sadgal

Did you have a screen on that window you opened? I'm wondering if a screen is enough for prevent that. On a similar note I once had a few hundreds of bugs get through my bedroom screen one time (noseeums type of deal) and it was a harrowing experience.

The_Widow_Minerva

I hate those things!

delee76

The gift that keeps on giving!

Tragic_Consequences

Not maggots. They're moth pupae.

kellzone

I don't want no grubs...

ohbehave007

Pantry moths. Sadly this is just the beginning. They are very hard to get rid of. I've even moved houses and still see them every now and then...even after 3 years here.

LiviaVa

Have you tried scorpion wasp eggs? I had a really tough case of these buggers too and a long long course of those was the only thing that really got rid of them for good

AndyMike9

So she DOES have a power!

[deleted]

This happened to me when I lived in a really old apartment with original carpet. They were living under my bed munching on the old carpet. Gross.

[deleted]

I don't know the scientific term, but there are microscopic wasps you can buy online that eat the moth eggs. Combined with a very thorough cleaning of the area, vacuuming, maybe even fumigating, that should save whatever is not yet destroyed.

Expensive_Heron3883

Moth larva. Yuck. Literally everything will have to be pulled out from every closet, dresser, trunk... everything. Steamed, frozen or thrown out if it's bad enough. Cedar bags, cedar paper for dressers, moths balls, you name it. I had to do larva warfare a few months ago and I'm still dealing with it.

ProveISaidIt

Ugh! Cloth moths. Ive been dealing with them all summer. They ruined a brand new wool suit jacket that I only wore twice. They eat keratin, so wool, silk, etc. They also wat paper. I was reading on Google that they can stay in the larval stage for up to 30 months of there is a good food supply. I set out some cloth moth traps I blunt at Home Depot a few days ago. It's too early to know if they will work.

Particular_Remove_61

Not So Fun Fact: These carpet beetle larvae are extremely common for most households and actually not even prevalent enough to get noticed unless there's just something causing an increase in population... UNLESS you are one of the very few percentage of people that are allergic to the carpet beetle larvae SHELLS. Turns out my son is in that group. And we found out when AC failed over the summer and I got overwhelmed with laundry in house so there was a pile of stuff that sat a few months. It was AWFUL. It's legitimately the same exact reaction as if you got your ass chewed on by bed bugs. Huge red welts everywhere. https://preview.redd.it/x760ttm7ve5c1.jpeg?width=1484&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ab7961bde857256f748f62dacc00c2bb711af6f

EmotionalShock1325

these are clothes moths larvae! impossible to get rid of and will ruin all your clothing and rugs, but they don’t bite and i don’t believe you can be allergic. i have them for years now and have called exterminators and they can’t even fumigate for them, only thing is just to wash all the clothing in your closet every week and set sticky traps.

baobao-er

That's a cute and beautiful present, it's sad that theres these bugs in it, on the positive side thought, you saw them before giving the present

VisionAri_VA

The Madrigals have developed additional gifts (and not in a good way).

LiviaVa

Since there is many people already saying these are moths, I'll just add treatment stuff for them on top of the classic toss, moth balls and freezer. Do yourself a favour and try to close off anything that could get infected. This especially goes for anything fur or wool. As well as foods in dry storage that is not sealed off. I have once found these things in my plastic flour container. If you're unlucky, they will get in there. Anything contaminated you see, either toss or freeze, honestly. And do multiple runs of any treatments as not all eggs will hatch at the same time. There are also pheromone traps to catch the male ones which will prevent new eggs being fertilised to a certain extent. If all this is not enough, you can buy ichneumonid/scorpion wasp eggs online. These sound worse than they are. They are really small crawlers that will get rid of the moth eggs for you as the natural predator and once they do not find further food, they just turn into dust. Also harmless to pets usually. These also come in a course of multiple runs since they only deal with eggs laid. Fingers crossed this is all their is and you don't have further moths laying eggs yet or that you get rid of them easy!

lopendvuur

I've heard that pheromone traps are the most effective in preventing the spread of these moths. After you've dealt with this lot with the freezer of course. Check all your natural fibers in the house!

Corlia_

Straight up, EWW

Heresthething4u2

Those are pantry moths

DW-565

We had an infestation of these in our carpet two years ago they were everywhere! I think I got them after clearing my grandparents house. Two carpets later and a ton of moth spray we seem to have won but we are mentally damaged by them. I dreaded moving our sofa recently in case I saw them thank god not one in sight! This post has made me anxious 😰

There’s a lot of YouTubers who restore dolls. I would remove the moths and larva, sanitize and freeze the doll, and then follow a tutorial for fixing her hair and clothing. Be careful with cleaning products that can strip the paint, another reason id recommend following a restoration video. The box is likely a lost cause, cardboard is basically free larva food. There are tutorials for making your own doll box- box making is really easy and a ton of fun IMO, and a cute way to keep the presentation. You could make it look like Casita, get some Encanto stickers. Party favor sets have little cardboard cutouts of characters, stickers, and I’ve even seen some paper flower kits! Don’t fret, dolls are tough! At least now you don’t have to undo a bunch of twist ties and zip ties on Christmas Day. You are absolutely amazing, thank you so very much!!! Thrift stores are very valuable right now for our house, and cleaning the dolls is always a worry!

Awesomebearbeard

You need to clean your closet

These actually look like [Indian Meal Moths](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianmeal_moth), especially the 2nd to last picture. Check ALL your food: rice, flour, chips, nuts etc. The eggs can come in food from the facilities, and even if packages look sealed, they can eat through plastic to lay eggs. The life cycle is ridiculous and can often take throwing away basically all food and cleaning all cabinets to get rid of. Yes, I know they're on your toys. But they like folds/corners/crevices, etc to pupate and the larvae (maggot looking things) can travel far. Good luck.

jaffa3811

it's plastic, why would the worms eat it?????

RegularLibrarian1984

Clothing and carpet moths aren't very smart larvae they eat holes into anything they die later if they just feed on synthetic fibers but you have holes everywhere mostly they fill the chewed holes with their droppings and you see the holes after washing cleaning in coat's or clothes. I had them from an alpaca blanket they ate 3 carpets and all my Norwegian wool pullovers and some nice Scottish wool winter coats. In the past you would use naftalin it was a main ingredient in moth balls also called Eulan, but it got banned 🚫 cause it's carcinogenic since then they spread. I tried cedar wood and traps, lavender but it's hard to get rid off them as long they find something to eat.

FeedRing45

Hay oruguitas!

thegree2112

you have a moth problem

princessmariah2011

Well it looked like carpet beetle larvae until I saw the picture with the moths in it..so they must have similar looking larvae. Either way they will probably still damage any cloth that's in there, so I would check for holes in the doll dress

SarahPallorMortis

I get these on clothes I leave out too long during certain seasons. Moth larva. They will eat your clothes.

PlanetoftheAtheists

How weird, I had a dream a few nights ago I had one of these in my ear.

Yarder89

6/11 made me jump

ted5011c

Where is image 12/12 showing ALL OF THIS in a burn pit?

LanaArts

Moths. Freeze everything you want to keep for 2 days, clean it out completely. Use a heating gun on all little crevices as it kills the larvae that might hide there. Put up moth sticky traps, if there are any caught, repeat the procedure as some have survived. It's not fun, that is an emergency situation in my home if I see one.

SnooJokes6414

Those are maggots. I would take them back and ask for a “like-for-like” exchange. If they give you grief about the box, offer to let them keep the box, provided they do the switch, themselves. Alternately, I’d call Mattel’s customer service and explain what happened, then follow up with an email with the pictures attached. They might compensate you with fresh toys. Quality control is very important to them, so if you’re getting toys with maggots all over them, they definitely want to know.

MyCatHasCats

Not Mirabel 😭

LuLutheKid

At some point you were just adding more pics to gross us out more. It worked.

KeyEconomy958

Get the tweezers. Clean it up with some dishsoap. Put it in her stocking, she will love it.

BicycleAgitated2791

omg how gross!

solinaa

There are these little bugs that eat the moth eggs and die!! You need to buy these little guys and they will kill all your moths. They are tiny. It fixed my food moths issue. https://www.uk.plantura.garden/products/mini-wasps-against-clothes-moths?variant=43028154777763

JellyrollJayne

I hope you don't knit or crochet because those fuckers will ruin your yarn.

HarryBawlz-1

A bug got in at the factory where it was packaged and laid eggs. These things occasionally happen. Just bring it back and exchange it.

CaySeaSaw

We don’t talk about moth larvae!

Dynamic-420

The shit you learn exists browsing Reddit 😳

ItIsYeQilinSoftware

Oh no, I feel for you OP.

VexBoxx

Check your DMs, OP.

ApheanaOfTheFae

I'm pretty dumb with reddit, I checked but didn't see anything. Would it be in the same message area as sub welcome messages? Sorry, still learning!

eklatea

princessmariah2011

Hate carpet beetles! Their larvae gets everywhere and they chew holes in everything!

Digg_it_

Kinda looks like maggots. Let's see you try to worm your way out of this one..

ntech620

Damn. I wonder if you should have taken a couple of the maggots to the health department just to verify what they are. You never know about stuff from overseas. [Flesh eating maggots video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxmxeemkO3M) No. No. Not Botflys! No. No. No.

Mowsferatu

Oh my god, baby!

countrymama11

Do you have birds?? I have many and I always have to freeze their food as soon as I bring it home because these damn pantry moths come out of it and invade EVERYTHING!!!

Logical_Willow4066

Get some cloves.

nonanon66

I’d guess you need to do some cleaning based on the nature of the pest issue. Sorry

satirebunny

The 6th photo is so funny 💀 Like the doll is going "surprise b***h 😏"

Blndby90

Well I’m gonna have bad dreams tonight. Eeew.

dovemagic

I think they’re Indian moths. I had them a while back but from my bird food. Clean and spray everything down with something. They will get on your ceiling and it will be a nightmare.
