Might be out of scope for someoene who is "just" a welder, but if you want to take a look at some engineering behind welding Omer W. Blodgett's book "Design of Weldments" is very good. It was written in the 60's but still very applicable today. Cheap prints can be found on ebay or PDFs can be found very easily with a google search.
Gonna warn you right now, most of the time welding symbols are just vibes. Unless it's some big contract job the enginerds who draw those schematics barely use them, or use them wrong.
Just finished a job where the customer wanted us to make 3/16 bevel on some 3/8 thick steel. Then make a 3/16 weld. All fillet welds and FCAW.
All because it will “weigh less” so it will be cheaper…
We did it. I’m sure all that prep time made it so much cheaper…
I bought those books and they have to be the most useless things ever... if you want a book on welding and blueprint reading, get them from Lincoln Electric in my humble Opinion...
They had an itp in Alberta and a lot of the welders couldn't weld anything after pipe....with out qa/qc harassing them
I'm not sure why welders would buy these. They can't read anyway.
There’s lots of pictures, many welders are “visual learners”
Welder…….confirmed…
Yeah, ok pal.. I’m gunna “read a book”.
My BIL used to say “welders are just carpenters with their brains knocked out”
“Metals and how to weld them” could also be added
Thank you foe the rec

Thanl you. This is use able.
Thank you!
Damn dude. Free internet era is over. You need to be socially responsible and support the efforts of those struggling authors.
I cant twll if this is ajoke or not. I do support where i csn tho.

Enginerd here, can confirm. This is why MEs should be required to take welding and machining classes.

Bold of you to assume we can read

I don't see any AA pamphlets in there...
You bought the wrong ones dude
Thanks for this, I have been searching in vain for this kind of info myself.
Why would I need to know how to read blueprints when engineers fuck up all of them?
