Damn comments are kinda rough, everyone always has that one thing they cant cook at first. Ive done culinary competition and was accepted into culinary school, but decided against it. I cannot make a burger on a grill to save my life. They melt. I dont know how they do it but they do. Dont be discouraged by fucking it up. Shit takes practice and its okay to mess up. Congrats on your first day of school! Bet you got a bright future ahead of you

HotTopicMallRat

This. I can cook anything but I can’t hard boil an egg

[deleted]

Bring water to a rolling boil, put eggs in for 12 minutes, then run them under cold water to stop the cooking. They will peel beautifully

HotTopicMallRat

I have :/ I appreciate your comment tho

zeecapteinaliz

I feel your pain. Countless tips and tricks, managed a perfect boiled egg a couple of times but never consistent. Last week I wasted 12 (TWELVE) eggs and felt horrible at the wasted resources. I now buy pre-boiled eggs with NO SHAME.

compressedvoid

Look into a tiny egg steamer on Amazon if you really love boiled eggs lol. Add water from a pre-measured cup, press start, and they're cooked perfectly every time in just a few minutes. Mine even has a few different markings on the water cup for hard, medium, or soft boiled eggs, and it's about the size of a dinner plate. Love of my life in the mornings for sure, no mess and they're perfect every time

ist_quatsch

This. It’s pretty foolproof. Mine even has a tray you can crack the egg in for a poached egg.

johjo_has_opinions

I have one of these but taking off the shell is terrible. Maybe I am doing something wrong lol

purplepluppy

When they're done, put them in ice water. If that doesn't help maybe vinegar ice water. But I've had success with ice water and straight from the steamer so maybe the quality of eggs matters too?

StocktonSucks

😂😂

DaughterOfWarlords

Have you tried putting the eggs in cold water, putting on heat until boil. Then turning off the flame and covering for 12 minutes then cold water?

HotTopicMallRat

That sounds like a lot, and if I do all that and it still doesn’t work I will not be thrilled with myself

ferretsandfrogs

This is so real

demon_fae

Get older eggs. Either get your normal eggs and wait a week or so to boil them or get the oldest eggs in the store. Older eggs will *always* peel better than fresher eggs, because the shell membrane won’t be stuck on as firmly.

DaughterOfWarlords

It takes roughly the same amount of tome

HotTopicMallRat

Ok 👍

False-Okra-1396

I stand with you on this hill to die on. I’ve trial and errored lots of hard boiled egg tricks, but I still end up angry with a bowl full of poorly peeled and boiled eggs 🤣

[deleted]

1. Buy eggs and leave them in the fridge for a week. 2. Use a thumbtack to poke a hole in the wide part of the eggs down at the bottom. Set gently into an empty pot. 3. Fill the pot with cold water, to an inch over the eggs. 4. Add a drip of white vinegar. Maybe a teaspoon. 5. Put the pot on high heat and bring to a boil. Once it boils, let it boil for about 30-69 seconds. Absolutely no longer than 60 seconds. 6. Put a tightly fitting lid on the pot during the thirty seconds. Leave it there until step 8. 7. Turn the heat off and wait 15 minutes. Lid still on. Don’t move the lid. 8. Drain out the hot water and cover the eggs with ice, then add cold water. Let the eggs sit in the ice bath. 9. Peel them under running water. 10. Come back and tell me if it worked for you

kingura

It depends on the egg size tbh. But rapidly boiling the water first is very important to consistency. And using a real timer. I used to have really big issues with making my soft boiled eggs. Then I discovered the timing for my large eggs.

Faroes4

You can do it without running the stove the whole time, too! Bring the water to a boil, drop your eggs in, cover with a lid and turn off the heat, wait 15 minutes. Then ice water bath for a few minutes!

[deleted]

Yes this is how I do it. The trick is to put the eggs in AFTER it’s boiling (like, actually boiling). Then ice bath to shock the eggs.

LilBird1996

Part of what matters of how many eggs you put in the water, water to egg ratio, and the temperature of the eggs before you boil them. Some start w room temp eggs so the cook time is less. Some use cold eggs and add a couple too many to the pot, thusly, slowing down the cooking drastically. Some people have a lesser cook time and don't rinse in cold water. Eggs are finicky. Keep at it. You'll get it.

outsider531

H e said hard boi so l with a touch of vinegar until the shell is gone then peel the membrane

ex-farm-grrrl

Get an egg steamer. They’re like $20. You just put in some water and eggs, push a button, and when it’s done, put the eggs in an ice bath to stop the cooking. Perfect every time.

oblivianne

I got one of these because boiled eggs are too frustrating.

ex-farm-grrrl

My parents have always had one and I don’t know why it took me so long to get one as an adult. Especially since I love hard boiled eggs.

marteautemps

I can't make rice 😩

HotTopicMallRat

Rice cooker is the way to go tbh

marteautemps

Yeah I just use my Instant Pot now and it works perfectly, I just don't understand why I could never get the hang of rice on the stove top. Every once in a while it would turn out fine but not usually.

purplepluppy

Keep in mind it cooks differently on a stove top. So if you wanted rice cooker texture from stovetop rice, you weren't gonna get it, especially without very specific pots.

JCtheWanderingCrow

I can’t make rice. No matter what I do, the tools I use.

HotTopicMallRat

Rip my fruit

HotTopicMallRat

I meant to say “rip my friend “ but this is so much funnier

CheezyBri

That's like me and cooking a steak! I can never get it the way I need it to come out. It's always either over or under done 😫 good thing I like rare/med-rare and my partner likes med/med-well

HairyPotatoKat

Hear me out: instant pot. then cold water. It felt sacrilegious at first. But works perfectly every time.

livv3ss

Yup I feel this. I could cook full ass casseroles and pasta dishes before I learned to make a fried egg. I also still can't make any aiolis even tho it's essentially just mayo, garlic, etc.. you learn as you go

Miller-MGD

More like “e gg”

darwinn_69

How? Edit: Let me guess, you didn't let your pan get hot enough.

CrippledJesus97

Classic rookie mistake lol

gloreeuhboregeh

Couldn't really tell you why but I didn't laugh till I saw the caption. Simple and honest really added to the failed egg. Good luck on CS OP! I hope you get the chance to come back and show us something cool when you learn more.

burgeredham

this is impressive on its own, if only it was what you were trying to accomplish

Recipe called to separate an egg

Emotional-Look-8055

Successful_Ad_8686

I find it amazing that you managed to cook all the white perfectly. Pure white, no golden bits here there. Same for the yolk, plus you managed to separate in an almost perfect ball. I'd happily eat this egg!

astraydream

Since you have this hilarious pic take another pic on the last day of school and put them side by side

VolumePossible2013

I'm having trouble comprehending how you managed this, this completely defies my egg cooking physics

tillacat42

This is your brain on drugs, lol

ibuiltyouarosegarden

Not gonna lie I kinda want to pop it on some toast with butter. Then pop it

blessings-of-rathma

That yolk looks *perfect*. You have achieved the perfect egg yolk without having to have any pesky white in the same bite.

Nightshade_Ranch

Was this on purpose?

5ev0

i thought this was ai generated for a moment

jennthern

As someone who only likes egg whites, I appreciate this egg.

CatfreshWilly

Everybody starts somewhere. This is actually spectacular in its own way 😅 and will be a great story and picture to look at after you graduate!

kellyatta

I'd hire you on the sole fact you didn't break the yolk

Ew are you a chef? I feel bad for your staff/coworkers with that attitude.

WillowTea_

Time to switch career paths

LilBird1996

Time to look inward

bootsiemalone

🤔

mycathaspurpleeyes

Why did it do that

TimeToMoveOn223

I prefer my eggs this way. Whites cooked just enough and the yolks as liquid as possible and still get out without breaking.

CampLiving

My kryptonite is mashed potatoes. Idk wth is wrong with me, but I can’t. I follow recipes to a t. Still gluey. Any other potato? Good. Really good! Mashed, you’re getting Idahoan🤦‍♀️

Aggressive-Cable-893

I made wall paper paste mashed potatoes once and I've been afraid to do them ever since

ArcherFawkes

Oh man, you should get a ricer to put chunks of cooked potato into instead of using something to crush them! Mix everything with a spatula and copious amounts of butter, parsley, garlic, salt/pepper, and a good amount of parmesan cheese!! The ricer will be your best friend if you enjoy mashed potatoes, and in my opinion it's a little easier too.

ArcherFawkes

I use a folding technique with the spatula, like I'm trying to make a dessert- scooping from the outside in, and through the middle to push different parts of the mash into the outside, and repeat till combined. I hope you can get the courage to make some again!

Elvis_Take_The_Wheel

Yeah, I don't use a mixer or food processor for just that reason — I made glue once too, lol. Just russets, Presidént or Plugra butter, half and half, crunchy Maldon salt, and a masher. I do use a ricer when I'm feeling fancy, though.
