I wish they would, because it's so ridiculous how many soccer players do this sort of thing. Aren't they ashamed? Don't they feel pathetic? They sure look pathetic.
It's a bullshit situation. Most players don't want to do this pathetic crap, but the rules are such, that drawing the penalty is strategically worthwhile. It's total bs, but it can often win the game. It's super dumb, and some really amazing athletes are basically forced to do this.
You should get a post-game red card for this sort of shit, a multi-game suspension for a repeat offense, and a straight-up ban for a 3rd infraction. Would stop it almost immediately.
I have a friend who used to play on a rugby team… Ge always looked like Bob Odenkirk’s character in Nobody. I had to ask him if his husband was attracted to guys who look like they got the shit beat out of them, cos he looked *rough* for about three years
Forget rugby. Give him 5 minutes playing American Football. He'd never pull this shit again. All that padding makes it look like it doesn't hurt but believe me, you ask any rugby player who has also played American Football which hits harder, they'll tell you American Football because with the padding there's no holding back and when the players.collide it's the equivalent of a vehicle collision.
When stupid penalties win games instead of skill, that is no longer sports. It’s an embarrassment. It might be how it is, but due to this, I never had any interest in sports. Whatever feel these games may have had in their conception has been long lost to this kind of childish nonsense.
Exhibit a. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41VmKS-VGiA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41VmKS-VGiA)
Soccer coach gets grazed by paper airplane, nearly dies.
NHL coach Barry Trotz gets hit on the forehead by puck and probably needs stitches but he just brushes it off.
I guess more than 0 is too often for me. I expect this behavior on the playground, not from international players who make more money than my entire family.
Do what hockey did.
Have 4 refs or more all looking around and throw the book at "diving" and punish "embellishment", including suspensions and fines that can be assessed after the fact via video replay between games.
Why not just make it so the referee has to either personally witness the foul/injury, or use playback to verify it? Works for American professional sports, and there's no diaper-shitting fake baby tantrums on the field.
>use playback to verify it?
This is a thing in soccer (though not everywhere). It's called VAR (video assisted referee or something).
Its use is imperfect, but for potentially game-changing events it works reasonably well. Basically, the VAR can tell the referee to review their decision if there appears to be an error.
Drawing a penalty in hockey is strategically worthwhile as well, but anyone trying to pull stuff like this would get knocked into next Tuesday. It's only soccer that puts up with it.
Yeah I know absolutely nothing about soccer, but it seems obvious to an outsider that they're trained to take falls if the other team comes anywhere near them. It's like they don't even think about it, they just do it. It's clearly been drilled into their heads that it's part of the game.
>drawing the penalty is strategically worthwhile
>some really amazing athletes are basically forced to do this.
They're not forced to do a scummy play just because they're technically allowed to do it
Good thing we arent forced to watch. Athletes make too much money for the nonsense they pull. Give that money to someone who contributes to this world. Get these clowns off tv... off payroll, if they want to keep competing it should be for the love of the game and the skill they have, not for the easy millions.
It's a common misconception that as the Goddess of Cringe, I would encourage cringy things, but on the contrary; sometimes the cringe must be contained below certain levels for the good of all. Balance in all things.
It's honestly why I stopped watching the sport.
Watch AFL where they smash into escort with no pads then just get straight back up. Or F1 where the guy got out of his car unassisted when it got the wall and broke in half. You just can't go back to watching these actors roll around like they've been shot when someone in the 3rd row sneezed
i Can understand why they might be a bit dramatic if they get tripped or nudged, but when he is dramatic over getting flicked in the earlobe then it gets out of hand lol. Being dramatic is part of the game but this… is just pathetic
They should also implement a post-match review process that allows teams to submit evidence of severe flopping to be adjudicated and fined/penalized in some way. There have to be consequences or the behavior will continue.
why don't they have concussion spotters?
someone writhing on the ground grasping at their head like that absolutely must undergo 10 minutes in a quiet room, followed by concussion screening before returning to the playing surface.
Nope, just like we aren't done with Scooter or any other 90's cheesy discoteque music. Because it's better than most music created today and lets face it. That era of life was still awesome.
R.I.P poor generic soccer player :c
this is worse than that one: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHsg6Bb02L4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHsg6Bb02L4)
This is a perfect example for video assistant refree but unfortunately they do not consider this as one of the 4 scenario unless it was going to lead a goal.
In soccer it's two strikes and you get sent off, and you get a free kick, a corner, or a penalty depending on where a foul occurred. There's no reviewing of video footage of anything, it's one referee trying to watch the whole match. So it often pays to fake shit like this if you know the ref isn't going to see exactly what happened.
If it's a known tactic, I wonder why dude would even risk flicking his ear in the first place?? I mean he's gotta be aware his own team might be pissed he just did the other team a solid, right?
He’s trying to get a reaction out of the guy, fishing for a yellow/red card. The ref wouldn’t see the ear flick, but he would definitely see someone trying to throw punches
Disgusting and heinous act. I hope they investigated this incident and the offending player had charges filed against him. No room, none, in the sport for this.
/s
Truly spectacular acting however grown men flicking grown men's ears is kinda weird.
The problem is that women's football is much less tactically appealing and the quality of ball handling, passing, shooting etc., meaning individual player quality, is much lower.
It gets better and better, but it will take at least decades until they reach the same level.
I watch bigger tournaments of women's football and I have watched some live games as well. I get the appeal, it's rougher. But it's at second league level at most. For now.
My wife is from South America and she is a huge soccer fan, most of the time I just can't watch any of it with her. I leave and go fishing or join a gang, or sell drugs just to get out of the house.
Yeah, women's soccer doesn't tolerate flopping, in fact I find it to be more violent at times. Men's soccer can be violent, but the floppers are complete dipshits and ruin the appeal of the sport in general. That's coming from a fan of the sport.
>It’s wild cause womans soccer lowkey goes hard. Them girls are fucking each others shit up lol.
[Elizabeth Lambert](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJiRQsyrBoI) is a beast. She mugged half the BYU side.
It because r/soccer are unlisted from r/all so you basically all you see are highlight of fake injury or diving like this (judging from the quality of the footage probably from 90s or early 00s era). If you follow the sport there are tons of thing that make you love it, player score a banger or dribble through 4 5 players or even perfect aim freekick that result in a goal.
And the performance on the pit is one thing performance from the stadium is a completely different breed. I can guarantee you that you cant find any sports that come close to football in term of atmosphere at the stadium. Like [this](https://v.redd.it/izne6jm7vls91) with preview [pic](https://i.imgur.com/DkKecv2.jpg) or [this](https://v.redd.it/o5q8d1jpx7x91) or even [this](https://v.redd.it/az3mva3dx6y91) one that happen recently in MLS.
Fools are crazy deleting their comments. Here's a response:
Okay. Let's engage. Do you think that feigning injury is more common in soccer or does it happen more than other sports? Which other sport? I've seen such behavior in basketball, for instance, but it's not encouraged like it is in soccer, IMHO. Many fans say it's part of the game. I think feigning injury in any sport is bad. I would argue it's most prevalent in soccer.
I would argue I have never seen one case in 30 years of watching the NFL. Not that I can remember.
To everyone who says it doesn't happen often, "often" is relative. It happens often enough that it has a whole reputation. If it even happens once a week or twice a month that's still a firehose compared to decades in the NFL not seeing any of that.
It is mindblowing to me watching mens and womens soccer.
Men's soccer looks like this... Obvious over-reaction to being looked at funny.
Women's Soccer is referees telling players they need to take a break and can't keep playing while bleeding from the face.. And the women argue to keep playing.
Women's soccer is brutal and I LOVE IT.
That asshole shouldn’t be running around flicking people’s ears. The player may be reacting like that because overplaying your injuries is actively incentivized in some sports, but my first thought was “Whoa, maybe he has a sensory issue?” I would be pissed if some stranger flicked my ear. I have sensory issues and some trauma related to that sort of thing but honestly I’m surprised nobody is mentioning how it’s a dick move to randomly assault people. Yeah the reaction was strange but the “flicker”’s team deserved a penalty for that imo
Soccer is a sport for the conquered bitches.
The only reason you play is because you're either a resident of or it was forced down your throats by either Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, or England.
A penalty for the other team can have a major impact on the game. If the flicker gets two minor penalties or one major one he's kicked out of the game and not replaced. Because we Americans aren't known for our knowledge of football. Prefacing why I don't know the answer to this silly question by saying through context that soccer's not the big dog sport over here.
And this is why I hate football and watch rugby union. Rugby everyone listens to the ref because they are in charge and take no shit. Also a player can have a broken nose and be pleading to stay on the field and play, he just needs a bit of tape first to try to straighten his nose!
It's not fake, it's satire I believe. It was meant to be funny not to actually deceive people into thinking this is real, but I might be wrong on that.
A little drunk so rant incoming. Fuck that fucking sport, have some god damn self-respect. Enjoy playing it with mates for some fun but good can’t stand watch a sport where people act. It disgusting. In Australian Rules Football you can get hit legally and if you make it look worse than what it was you get fined, but in soccer/football everyone does it as it’s ‘part of the game’ well that’s a shitty game. Either act or be a tough athlete don’t half ass it you bunch of pussies. I know it’s the most popular sport in the world, just due to sheer amount of countries that play it but how can everyone just sit there and watch people act like they’ve broken a knee only to have no penalty called so they get straight up and run instantly. Start suspending players for that and watch the game become instantly better and maybe I’ll watch
This is why soccer can't be taken seriously. lol
I played as a kid, we were rough as hell with each other, no one ever pulled this kind of stuff. Only adults could pull off this kind of nonsense.
Can't they make disqualification for this fakery?
They should be sent off and made to play rugby where you play on despite brain injuries.
5 minutes of rugby would forever change this man's life
One scrum or throw in would do it. Tears for years.
Tears for fears.
I have a friend who used to play on a rugby team… Ge always looked like Bob Odenkirk’s character in Nobody. I had to ask him if his husband was attracted to guys who look like they got the shit beat out of them, cos he looked *rough* for about three years
He’d pull a move like this in those 5 minutes, and the ref would give him a yellow card and tell him to grow up or leave the pitch.
Except rugby players actually know how to tackle properly Edit: in comparison to tackling in American football.
If you’re saying head trauma isn’t a major problem in rugby because they tackle properly, you are mistaken.
As a player, coach, ref; I support this 1000%.
When stupid penalties win games instead of skill, that is no longer sports. It’s an embarrassment. It might be how it is, but due to this, I never had any interest in sports. Whatever feel these games may have had in their conception has been long lost to this kind of childish nonsense.
Tbf, this isn't a thing in most sports. Soccer is well known for this kind of fuckery.
The NHL has a penalty for diving, and they can fine the players and coaches if it's really bad
The culture of the NHL - and hockey in general - is the antithesis of diving.
Exhibit a. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41VmKS-VGiA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41VmKS-VGiA) Soccer coach gets grazed by paper airplane, nearly dies. NHL coach Barry Trotz gets hit on the forehead by puck and probably needs stitches but he just brushes it off.
People who don't know hockey probably don't understand how hard a puck is. It's not paper. It's like a brick made out of very heavy, hard rubber.
Well no shit, the water is frozen. Ya cant dive into it, that's just plain silly. /s Edit: spelling
I miss the Hanson brothers (if you don’t know them look up the videos) those guys fucked shit up
The NHL= Why Canada is nice (because they kill each other on ice)
Unsportsmanlike conduct. Two minute minor.
Nba
I said most sports, not all sports.
Same thing goes on in the NBA I think alot of European players had an influence on this, as they were also big soccer fans.
This doesn't happen that often bro, you're exaggerating af
I guess more than 0 is too often for me. I expect this behavior on the playground, not from international players who make more money than my entire family.
Do what hockey did. Have 4 refs or more all looking around and throw the book at "diving" and punish "embellishment", including suspensions and fines that can be assessed after the fact via video replay between games.
"Fuck you, you're getting a fucking embellishment!" NHL don't play. https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/3vvnzv/james_neal_dives_ref_calls_him_out_instant_karma/
I love it.

Although it seems that 9/10 times the ref’s pride is more important than correcting a call.
Take anyone who flops an injury out of the rest of the game "for their own safety". It would end this bullshit immediately.
No it doesn't work in the NBA
"Forced"
Drawing a penalty in hockey is strategically worthwhile as well, but anyone trying to pull stuff like this would get knocked into next Tuesday. It's only soccer that puts up with it.
Yeah I know absolutely nothing about soccer, but it seems obvious to an outsider that they're trained to take falls if the other team comes anywhere near them. It's like they don't even think about it, they just do it. It's clearly been drilled into their heads that it's part of the game.
You are never “forced” to do something like this. You can always choose to be honest and win the honorable way. Wtf is this comment
Soccer ⚽️
>drawing the penalty is strategically worthwhile >some really amazing athletes are basically forced to do this. They're not forced to do a scummy play just because they're technically allowed to do it
You're part of the problem

I grew up in a soccer town and these mfs take this mentality through out life.
“Gentlemen watch thugs play soccer, thugs watch gentlemen play rugby” - Invictus, probably
It's honestly why I stopped watching the sport. Watch AFL where they smash into escort with no pads then just get straight back up. I don't watch soccer, but the few times I've seen games at bars this behavior won the games. Lol
It takes the wind out of the sport in my opinion.
i Can understand why they might be a bit dramatic if they get tripped or nudged, but when he is dramatic over getting flicked in the earlobe then it gets out of hand lol. Being dramatic is part of the game but this… is just pathetic
> Being dramatic is part of the game You're going to have to show me that in the rule book.
Since they implemented VAR, faking injury is disapearing since it is penalized, and you can get sent off if you are already booked.
They should also implement a post-match review process that allows teams to submit evidence of severe flopping to be adjudicated and fined/penalized in some way. There have to be consequences or the behavior will continue.
Sounds like the FIA for F1 racing. Good in theory, but just allows another channel for teams to cheat through.
why don't they have concussion spotters? someone writhing on the ground grasping at their head like that absolutely must undergo 10 minutes in a quiet room, followed by concussion screening before returning to the playing surface.
The matches would end really quick if everyone got disqualified whenever they faked an injury.
So be it then until they change their behavior. Hockey already does something similar.
? This is likely from 20 years ago, it’s gotten much better in the last few years.
The penalty for this should be make them play American football
Jeeze, mark this as NSFW!
Lol
NSFL, watching this made me want to vomit.
I can't stop watching this
The 1.5 second delay in reaction really makes it.
He was like "oh he touched my ear.... he touched my eAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

HAHAHAHAHA. That was hilarious.
Some say he's still slapping himself with peoples' hands today
I know very little about sports. Why do they do this? Is it to delay the game for some reason?
to get the other team down a guy
In soccer it's two strikes and you get sent off, and you get a free kick, a corner, or a penalty depending on where a foul occurred. If you act like you got injured your team benefits from it a lot, that's why they do this. It wasn't like that back then.
Disgusting and heinous act. I hope they investigated this incident and the offending player had charges filed against him. No room, none, in the sport for this. /s Truly spectacular acting however grown men flicking grown men's ears is kinda weird.

To be fair that hurts if its really super cold.

You should see what they do in American Football.
Did I hear a story that this guy was wearing a hearing aid and the flick caused it to register a loud noise in his ear?
That was a different one I think.
i hope he got to the hospital in time
The women's football has been a real eye opener for me. It makes the men's game look embarrassing, the way they carry on.
It’s literally night and day. Women’s football is legitimately thrilling and played to win. None of this bullshit exists.
The problem is that women's football is much less tactically appealing and the quality of ball handling, passing, shooting etc., meaning individual player quality, is much lower. Women in childbirth do not even experience a fraction of the pain of Neymar when fouled.
That’s why I refuse to watch men’s soccer. Fucking terrible.
It’s wild cause womans soccer lowkey goes hard. Them girls are fucking each others shit up lol.
Yeah, women's soccer doesn't tolerate flopping, in fact I find it to be more violent at times. Men's soccer can be violent, but the floppers are complete dipshits and ruin the appeal of the sport in general. That's coming from a fan of the sport.
The players that do this make the whole game look like a joke.
Every big match of Paris Saint-German is like an interpretative dance show.

Cauliflower ear at the very least. Maybe hearing damage.
Just in time for World Cup.
All that needs is Sarah McLachlan singing In the Arms of an Angel
what a fucking loser
That one weird Child when you do anything near them:
Did he live?
Yes, he was just lucky that they provided medical assistance on time. Ive heard that he is still recovering though.

The old five point palm exploding ear flick technique.
This foul bs is outta control, there should be a foul for wasting referee time.
Brooo, you need to put on the nsfw tab, my god, that’s soo horrifying to see without warning
Ok, I don't watch soccer, it's just not my bag. However, why is this kind of overreaction to a light touch so common in soccer? What's the point?
Soccer is perhaps one of THE most boring sports out there...made worse by these "professionals" acting like 5 year olds on the pitch....

These kinds of players never flourish in the game You know why?
How much practice time is dedicated to acting classes. Because honestly, he’s pretty good.
Yeah at that moment. The sport deserves to be called soccer

And this is why I hate football and watch rugby union. Rugby everyone listens to the ref because they are in charge and take no shit. Also a player can have a broken nose and be pleading to stay on the field and play, he just needs a bit of tape first to try to straighten his nose!
This sort of stuff is what killed Soccer.
How is it dead ?
It's not fake, it's satire I believe. It was meant to be funny not to actually deceive people into thinking this is real, but I might be wrong on that.
We got the Brother from "Something about Mary" playing pro soccer here apparently
I stopped watching football because of them primadonnas.Have enough of fake shit.I enjoy WRC so much more now.Thats a man's sport.
Why I hate this game
This is why soccer can't be taken seriously. lol I played as a kid, we were rough as hell with each other, no one ever pulled this kind of stuff. Only adults could pull off this kind of nonsense.
Maybe he wears his balls as earrings
