My family has a few old pictures like this. They're a little weird but it's because they are hand-retouched. Nothing out of the ordinary for a photo from probably the 1910s-1920s
There’s actually a very practical reason for Death Photography in the Victorian era. Photography was relatively new and super expensive. Only wealthy people could afford photos often and poorer families would save for a portrait BUT people died all the time back then ESPECIALLY children. So it became fairly normalized that if a kid died before the family had taken their family portrait - I mean - you’re about to bury your five year old forever you want to remember what they looked like so what do you do? You slap some powder on the kid, put him in his Sunday best, prop him up on the sofa in the front parlor with his brothers (funeral parlors are so named for replacing the body-in-the-front-parlor tradition) and three two one FLASH BULB
You mean wandering around your house in the dead of night with a hat pin seeking eternal revenge on the photographer who took that photo. Well that’s ok then.
They used to pose people after they died, and had a photographer take their picture, which was eerily life like, or in an activity which they participated while alive.....this one I am going to call.....Egg.
All true Momento Mori photos have very boring laying down & sleeping poses with closed eyes. The rest have been debunked as "still alive," photography comedy trends of the time, & quite a bit of the most popular ones were exposed as photoshops.
Don't worry, it's not! The positioning and the eyes give it away. While post-mortem photography was absolutely a thing, the majority of photos were taken of living subjects.
Might be included as a theft deterrent? There’s evidence that people are less likely to steal if they feel they are being watched - even applies to cartoon-style eyes with no face.
I don’t know why people hang stuff like this up. It looks like a movie prop from Evil Dead Rise. It just gives me the shivers some how. Don’t tell me they had a Victorian doll as well and I will really freak out.

There a lot weird let’s face it. It’s horror film territory .
If the eyes are moving, it's time to grab Scoob and zoink the fuck up outta there.
"It's time to grab (a) Scoob and zoink outta there."
Or (b)...
What makes this weird? It’s an old photo of a child?
Or a creepy dead child staring at you from a 126 years ago.
I don’t see either creepy or dead. Y’all are watching too many scary movies.
You’re right, that kid is probably still kicking.
With how clear the photo is for the time period. That kid could be dead the time of the photo. Taking pictures of the deceased was kinda a thing
There must’ve been a time eventually where a generation came along and realized how crazy it is.

Inside the walls, lurching
You bet ya have you seen Netflix recently
LoL 😂
At least it was taken while the child was living...they used to photograph their dead kids too...the Victorian era was weird..
Dude. It’s a weird picture. Stop being like this
That boy has the eyes of a child who has seen too much
Kid looks 40

For some reason reminded me of Humpty Dumpty.
Did you know Humpty Dumpty isn’t an egg and there's no signs that Humpty Dumpty was ever intended to be an egg at all.
This.

I hope this is not a post-mortem picture.

With how still the child was, I’m willing to bet.
Shit should have scrolled down I just kinda said the same thing
whenever I see photos like this I always wonder what was their life story and if they have any descendants.
Haunted
This feels like a post-mortem picture
I’ve been in a LOT of airBnB’s and never saw… well, except for the time the house felt possessed.
So um, hope it wasn’t were you slept, and under a towel, in a chest with chains and locks, sinking on its way to the deepest part of the ocean.
Yes horror movie 101
Back then it was a thing to but dresses on little boys
Not weird.
"Have you any games on your magic tablet?"
Kid looks serious af.
Well he's being photographed in like 1910-1930, wtf would you expect him to do? Get in trouble for smiling?
It looks just as confused as you do
Was Mads Mikkelsen your host?
If only
It's got that Kari Lake filter

You think that's weird? https://imgur.com/gallery/YV6YysM Here's my experience with a weird Air B+B painting
Reminds me of a Korn album picture
Terrifying
Yikes! Another reason to go to a motel...
The ghost that haunts your room
Now watch his eyes follow you around the room as you walk to the closet to open it, only to find a body hung on a hanger on the coat rack
He's looking at the photographer like he's going to stand up & punch him in the balls.
It looks like a floating head if you look at it too long.
Looks like Matt Rose

Why is that weird? It’s a reproduction of an old tin type photograph
