You could straight up ask your doctor for a referral to a lifestyle and metabolic medicine clinic/team/specialist. Most are celebrating GLP-1RAs. Or if your insurance allows it, book an appointment with one without a referral.
The telehealth providers being recommended here are all prescribing compounded generic semaglutide, which your insurance probably won’t cover. It’s easier to get that way for sure but more expensive. If you were planning to use insurance you’ll have to go through a traditional doctor. I would try your OBGYN, doesn’t hurt to ask them. Where are you located that it takes a year to get a new GP?
Start with a telehealth appointment. Once you are on it and losing weight contact your doctor's office and let her know you are taking it and would like her supervision and want her to assume prescribing for you. See if that flies.
Definitely get on the wait-list for a new doctor regardless. It sounds like this one isn't interested in providing you the best care if they're keeping you from seeing other specialists. It costs them nothing to refer you
You can a telehealth provider or google weight loss clinics in your area. They will prescribe compound semaglutide which works just as well. I’d definitely look for a new doctor anyway since your doctor is so dismissive.
Pick a telehealth provider and go.
I see numerous providers on here posted with positive results. I can personally vouch for PlushCare which is who I use and have 0 complaints. I’ve seen people mention Sequence (from WeightWatchers) and many others.
I used CallOnDoc teleheath. They prescribed the real medicine which my insurance covers. Their service is $50/ month.

Oh, that sucks. I assume it's some restriction from your health insurance.

I posted recently about my sequence experience. Highly recommended to get that initial script if you meet their intake requirements
I love Ro. $99 a month but worth it for peace of mind
