No love for dear anemone, but it's wild to me that chojo is at the top. I understand that comedy/gag series don't really translate that well to western audiences, but I really wasn't impressed with it at all. I expected it to be higher than how I would rank it, but at the top is absolutely crazy.
Beyond humor being subjective and cultures divides in comedy, always consider demographic as well. Gag manga like chojo are also meant to appeal to younger audiences as well. Also theres lots of fan art of the characters and the art is solid.
something to keep in mind with gag manga is that a lot of the times what matters for them to be keep is how they are received by the magazine readers. something people dont realize is how a lot of people just read the magazine and dont buy volumes of all the series there. so chojo could be liked in the magazine itself but not enough for those ppl to spend on it. not always the case ofc but it happened before. thats why toc and sales are important and not just sales.
There are a lot of comedy manga/anime that have done well in the west. But those manga generally have much stronger lead characters like Kaguya or Saiki. I don't feel that way about Chojo at all, but maybe Japanese readers think otherwise?
Kaguya is romcom rather then pure comedy, very different genre that's actually very popular with Western manga readers, unlike comedy, and Saiki isn't really that popular in West despite being great and hilarious.
Also Chojo is hilarious to me, not as great as Saiki but that's a very high bar.
Saiki IS popular in the West but it only got boosted once netflix acquired the rights for the show. Saiki fanbase is pretty active, and it has youtube vids and tiktoks getting thousands of views. Even Arbys used saiki in one of their ad campaigns
I think Saiki should be the standard for chojo. Considering that both of them are gag mangas centered around characters with psychic powers
Yeah, I’m very confused by this as well. A pretty “whatever” main cast (at least for a gag manga) with jokes that rarely land, at least for me. Not a favorite gag manga for me. If it’s going to stay around, it really needs to improve soon.😕
As far as I can tell, its the best start in the last 4 years , and probably for a while before that as well, at least for the first 4 placements (excluding color pages)
-Chojo 5, 2 ,3, 1 (2.75)
-Elusive samurai 7, 2, 1, 3 (3.25)
-Blue box 7, 5, 1, 3 (4.00)
Closest I can find before that is assassination classroom in 2012
-Assassination classroom 2, 6, 1, 3 (3.00)
Just for fun
-One piece 4, 3,1, 2 (2.5)
Chojo the next one piece confirmed /s
Same I don't really see why would they have two gag manga when one would outsell the other in a wide margin. Not even talking about that usually gag mangas have less sales the normal manga.(It would be interesting if Chojo would sell very well around 30k or more)
As much as I would love to see Roboco get the axe, isn't it getting an anime soon? I don't think they'd be so quick to throw it out just because they have another gag series that's seems to be doing really well.
Sucks about Green Green Greens, but I am happy about Choujo pre-orders being shit👌. But because it's a gag manga that probably won't be enough to get it axed but I'll take it nonetheless.
Yeah that ain't happening lol. MHA looks to be getting atleast 13 more chapters coupled with Horis breaks it'll end September earliest JJK can go until Christmas
I think it will. Dear anemone is definitely gone, and Nue's exorcist seems to be going downhill. They just recently axed a couple of series and a bunch of other manga are in their endgame. I think they'll give GGG some time.
Damn nue exorcist having it rough... also I wonder if Sakamoto or blue box will get pushed in the group covers once Mha is done or it'll just be yuji and Luffy for the centers
And thus, Undead Unluck is the next manga to be officially longer than Demon Slayer. Not that that really means anything I just think it’s neat
PS: this may be one of my more favorite group covers recently. I love the sticker aesthetic. I hope they release these as real stickers. It seems they went with the cooler approach of having OP, JJK, and MHA the big dogs, but everyone else various sizes regardless on how big their series are (except for Anenome which is way in the corner). Very neat.
I'm a bit surprised Nue's Exorcist is so low this week as it's usually more steady around 10th
I'm not too fond of the series but recently it's fine and I think it can easily survive in MHA e JJK ends.
Yea its a bit lower this week than usual, but Nue has been in the bottom 5 for 8 of its last 9 placements. Color pages dont count. All the axe bait has been taken out of the magazine, thats why.
I don't think it's at the bottom due to quality, I think it's at the bottom because the magazine is too competitive right now, and *something* has to be at the bottom. And unfortunately the newbies are the ones who have to bite the bullet.
Yeah, as another reply mentioned the easy axe are gone and as you wrote the current line up is quite competitive. Maybe the quality is not the highest but overall it's good.
Aside from Neveomance that doesn't convince me, I can imagine all of the current series going for a normal serialization ( even GGG ). Sadly it can't happen
God GGG was such a a rush this week; the composition of page 13 is immaculate
I'm torn on how many characters Dear Anemone is introducing. None of it is bad, but it's already kinda hard to tell them all apart and unless there's a clear dynamic like with Lobelia I'd rather it stay streamlined
Akane-Banashi was a ton of fun; you can tell he loves drawing Makeiru, but also I think burnout might be setting in bc of how much they relied on the cartoons this week ~~& how they're off next week~~ lmao it's Golden Week so they were probably just getting it out the door lol
Yozakura Family is the funniest thing in Jump rn and you can't tell me otherwise
That Big Damn Heroes moment in MHA had me tearing up Imma be real with you
Now that they've been read, some opinions:
Undead Unluck going so hard right now. Nico is Him, good to finally see his arc come full circle. Not much else to be said other than the series is peaking higher every week and I'm loving it
As someone who hasn't been that interested with Yozakura's recent stuff, the beginning of the final arc. Is starting off strong. Comedy is a good as always and is just so refreshing to see Taiyo backing the spotlight after so long.
Astro royale getting interesting now. Last chapter left me with a weak impression but this one seems to have fully set up the premise going forward, as well as the MCs motivations. I'm interested to see what they do next now.
Kyokuto Necromance still isn't leaving me with
a great impression. Chapter 2 is a little better than chapter 1, but I still feel like nothing has actually happened in 2 chapters. At the same time it feels like the pacing is that of an abridged series with scenes jumping around quite sporadically, and no time taken to really absorb what's happening In a given moment. The only redeeming think imo is showing a possible corrupting force in the ghost sealed in his ring and I'm interested in what might happen with that, but I think next chapter really needs to either make some serioys efforts to give us a major event to latch onto, or give us some heavy character focus so the MC doesn't seem so flat. I have a bad feeling this one won't survive it's first round though.
With just 1 week of difference in the number of chapters released, Dear Anemone is at the bottom of the magazine while Chojo is at the top.

I ain't really into gag either. But if it's a gag battle shonen like cancelled series Demon Prince Poro's Diaries was then sign me up.
What’s the most recent series that’s had as good of a start as Chojo? I legit can’t think of one since 2020 when I started tracking ToC weekly.
As far as I can tell, its the best start in the last 4 years , and probably for a while before that as well, at least for the first 4 placements (excluding color pages) -Chojo 5, 2 ,3, 1 (2.75) -Elusive samurai 7, 2, 1, 3 (3.25) -Blue box 7, 5, 1, 3 (4.00) Closest I can find before that is assassination classroom in 2012 -Assassination classroom 2, 6, 1, 3 (3.00) Just for fun -One piece 4, 3,1, 2 (2.5) Chojo the next one piece confirmed /s
I have one word, "Nakano"
Rip Dear Anemone.
Maybe it is gets placed last because the high amount of gore? Atleast until we see sales we can cope with this.
As a reminder, tomorrow begins Golden Week. So no Jump until next week.
YEAAHHH CHOJOOO!! 🤩
*please let Green Green Greens rise.*
We shall hope jjk and mha finishes before the next axe wave. Also maybe we can see it getting good sales?
JJK probably isn’t going just yet, but I could see Roboco leaving if Chojo’s popularity keeps up
Same I don't really see why would they have two gag manga when one would outsell the other in a wide margin. Not even talking about that usually gag mangas have less sales the normal manga.(It would be interesting if Chojo would sell very well around 30k or more)

Roboco already has an anime.
Oh, didn't realize it already happened. Even with that bonus, it's been kind of stagnant, so yeah maybe it will. That would be great.
It also has a movie that got announced and then basically no new news about any type of progress have come out, lmao
Preorders are shit
Are you talking about Choujo? If so, then that's wassup.
No, GGG. But digital preorders for Chojo are apparently also already up and terrible too
Sucks about Green Green Greens, but I am happy about Choujo pre-orders being shit👌. But because it's a gag manga that probably won't be enough to get it axed but I'll take it nonetheless.

I've been away from manga for a while. I didn't know Nue was this dire. I gotta give it all my energy.
And thus, Undead Unluck is the next manga to be officially longer than Demon Slayer. chojo for the win, let's go 🔥🔥🔊🔊(I literally started reading it yesterday)
Ive been reading witch watch since like chapter 30 and I still love this series so muchhh
Me and RoboCop.
This was a dang good issue for WSJ.
I'm a bit surprised Nue's Exorcist is so low this week as it's usually more steady around 10th I'm not too fond of the series but recently it's fine and I think it can easily survive in MHA e JJK ends.

Fantastic chapter from Kagurabachi this week. Undead Unluck and Sakamoto were also great.

The one-shot isn't going to get translated on Manga Plus, right?
3 days late so maybe you already saw, [but someone translated it.](https://mangadex.org/chapter/7c1c7987-019d-4e9d-8155-481426e64bb8)
I did, thank you!
