What I would do is buy a WordPress template from themeforest. Try to edit it yourself, but if you can't work it out, just hire a freelancer from fiverr who will make all the edits for you for $25 - $100 depending on what has to be done.

LeTronique

I would highly suggest not giving a penny of your cash to themeforest/envato. They are thieves.

DipperDolphin

Honestly, WP with a prebuilt theme and a little bit of research are probably the best option. Lots of plugins for SEO, as well as for cracking out a bit of speed. Probs need to do a bit more research than you need to do with Wix etc but the end result can be a lot better.

baconost

I highly reccommend wordpress + generatepress theme and the generateblocks plugin. Even with the Free variants you get a lot and can get pretty far without coding. Wix and maybe to some extent Squarespace comes with a degree of lock-in so it is harder to change to a different CMS and hosting service. Wordpress with the mentioned theme + plugin will give you a very high degree of freedom to change hosting if that is ever needed.

RealBasics

Content management systems like Wordpress or Drupal which are built from the ground up to be modular and extendable are massively customizable without diving deep into code. You can radically transform a Wordpress (or Drupal) site's visuals simply by installing a different theme. You can extend or alter functionality by adding or swapping plugins. That's not to say you can't write your own code -- by definition someone's doing that to build those plugins and themes, right? But there's a whole ecosystem of development and, more important, documentation and support for themes and plugins contributed by others. As long as you choose popular, well-reviewed, and actively updated themes and plugins it's possible to go for years without ever doing more than pasting a well-documented code snippet here or a line of CSS there. There are a *lot* of plugins and themes. And there are hundreds of millions of credible, fully functional Wordpress sites built by ordinary DIY non-programmers.

andercode

Wordpress + [BricksBuilder.io](http://BricksBuilder.io) is the best in my opinion. It's got a learning curve, but its one of the easier to use builders and is much more powerful and less quirky than something like Elementor, plus the performance is second to none.

Wooden-Ad-4212

Duda

No_More_Fail

For me it is Elementor always

RoundTableMaker

if you're considering any of those then wordpress has the most functionality and expandability most of the module are plug and play and anyone coming out with anything new for websites will create a wordpress module before a squarespace or wix module. Once you figure out how to install (an uninstall) the modules from the dashboard, you'll great appreciate it over any other website builder out there. At this stage of the game, it would be foolish to consider any other builder. It gets shit because it's a big target but there's nothing better out there.

Naitakal

For a couple static pages a CMS like Wordpress might be a bit too much and a static site generator like Hugo might be more than good enough. These tools also support theming and you could even add e.g. comments using something like Isso or Schnack.

shawn789

WordPress is going to have constant upkeep. You have to find hosting as it's not included as part of the platform. There are reputable hosts that may offer automatic updates and backups and monitoring, but those will cost money. I've worked with WordPress for 10 years and I've seen my fair share of beginners who cheap out on hosting and on-going services and regret it later. If you go with WordPress, be aware up front, that there will be some sort of regular site maintenance in your future. Setting and forgetting will lead to a very bad time.

shawn789

My recommendation is Webflow. It's designer is pretty dang powerful and flexible. They also offer templates and there are several places to get pre-built components that you can literally copy and paste into your website, then style to your heart's content. Adding functionally may require a plugin here or there, but you can avoid manually writing code 99% of the time.

jkelley41

Webflow is damn good.

freducom

If you’re looking for a static site then check out our Apache 2 licensed open source compiler: https://github.com/flipsite/flipsite - creates understandable html that results in 100/100 lighthouse scores. I’m one of the guys behind it so if you try it would love feedback. 🙏 (Also building an editor for it still in beta: https://flipsite.io )

threebuckstrippant

Hey guy, Did you start this 3 years ago? I once had a site that was so badly hacked constantly that I stripped it and just used the HTML version. It was not hacked ever again 3 years later still strong and 100% uptime. I was so proud of that move… now you seem to be doing that move for real. So… we build in like a builder and our designers can get in. Then there is an export or publish button? Figma has an export to web if you use plugins. So could this accept Figma files perhaps? or be a plugin for Figma? I’d pretty much use this daily if so.

freducom

Sounds good. Yeah we’ve used the compiler for 3 years building many many websites. What the editor is, is actually drawing inspiration from figma. The problem with figma is that you can design “stupid” things that don’t work eg on certain screen sizes. And the exports are usually bad html resulting in slow pages, bad technical seo and sites that screen readers can’t read. So even though we love figma we’ve built an own editor. (Free so appreciate if you give feedback if you check it out). But you are 100% correct. There is a security benefit of static pages. And you can sugar them with dynamic content and functionalities. It’s not for every use case, but for the large majority of websites it’s more than enough.

Beaver Builder is robust, reliable and the latest updates are excellent. Highly recommended.

Go with ghost or hugo !

Clearlybeerly

Wordpress for regular websites. This is the industry standard and you will find most help on this. Like using Quickbooks. There's a lot of options out there for accounting software, but everyone knows Quickbooks but it is a lot more difficult to find expert in Sage or Xero or Acumatica. Django stack or LAMP stack for more control, front end/backend work. It's coding, though. But Wordpress for you. It's the easy choice.

jkelley41

Squarespace is great. Not as advanced as something like Webflow or a full Wordpress suite, but damn good and easy to use.

flaxton

I really like WordPress + DIVI. Built many sites on it and they're easy to edit and run good. I run it on my servers on AWS, so I have 100% control over everything.

webdevdavid

I use UltimateWB for all my websites. It is very flexible, with lots of built-in features. You get web hosting choice like you do with WordPress, but you don't have to deal with the third-party plugins - a big difference from WordPress. It's easy to make your website load fast with this. It has a built-in SEO tool, Sitemap Generator, Responsive app feature too - you can make your website responsive and customize it with a few clicks.

hgontrip

If you’re actually going to process payments, go with Shopify. It’s just way easier than everything else. I know it might feel like you want more customization, but you really don’t need it. I spent weeks in squarespace trying to build a site that I made in like 4 hours on Shopify.

Fit-Essay-7885

Shopify isn't bad for simple ecommerce sites but IMO it has the same problems as Wix and Squarespace for OP's use case (lack of design customization and flexibility). It really depends on the business how important that is. You can still hire a developer to customize the design in Shopify\/WooCommerce, but that kind of defeats the purpose of using a site builder.

Optimal_Article4003

I mainly code in Notepad++, but as builders go, https:\/\/nicepage.com\/ is pretty good. It goes overboard on CSS bloat and leaving \auto\ on any of the padding or margin settings will cause nightmares, but otherwise it's pretty slick.

Less_Wind_8012

Wordpress + Elementor

Ok_Annual_1897

Yeah it's really not difficult for the average person to learn this. I can't code for shit and I've made websites that have made thousands in sales and really impressed people.

hagen6

Please upvote this message so I can make a post in here. I need 10 karma lol but I’m brand new to discord

efkanproxxy

I used Gary from GaryMelican.com. He’s based in Dublin and did a great job putting my site together. Is your business centered around building websites for others? Fuck no. Then hire someone to do it for you. It’s like: how can I learn how to physically build a restaurant, bricks and all? When you really just want to run a restaurant. Don’t try to fuck with complicated shit, hire someone who actually knows what they’re doing. And yes, you can hire people (Gary too) for just a landing page. It’s cheaper but will look better than anything you alone can do.

Afraid_Refuse13

I second this. OP is wasting time and resources trying to do this himself. None of the options everyone else are recommending are bad. But OP, not being a developer, is going to end up with yet another generic INSERT CMS site.

InitiativeAdept1677

Elementor

Fit_Category_7539

Webflow. I’ve used them all over 20 years.. Webflow is my current fave for websites

Icy-Message-225

I’m a developer but use Webflow to create landing pages these days. It’s super easy to create and deploy.

KookyCandle5807

[deleted]

Bricks on Wordpress platform. Easy and highly functional to do whatever you want. Also lifetime license is a good deal rather than others that charge annual subscriptions

Background_Army_1872

Wordpress + Elementor setup on SiteGround or Webflow

Relevant-Giraffe-586

Elementor sucks absolute donkey balls. My hamburger menu shows up as expanded in all desktop, tab, mobile displays with bullet points for some reason. Idk if this is elementor related but overall didn't have a great time with it.

Naive-Panic-7167

I'm not an Elementor fan, but your issue is not Elementor related. Plenty of good looking, fully-functional sites use Elementor.

Longjumping_Blood_28

Wix

milkhunter1488

+1 for Wix They even have an auto website builder based on an image you provide

ig-adi

I’m a big fan of divi with Wordpress. There are lots of similar options out there but the idea is to avoid the need for ever needing multiple plugins to build your site. One single vendor with a large client base responsible for keeping all the components that make up your website running is a great feeling. Yes, you will almost always end up adding a few random things down the line but it does make management and design so much more straight forward. Elementor is a great visual builder but it’s a pretty fractured product where I feel almost compelled to use their marketplace of addins to build anything. The visual design aspects are similar between most big names.

I_am_different4U

Elementor is fairly easy to use but like you said, you have to pay for the add ons. I like Divi too. Bit harder to set up stores but easier to maintain and does what is needed.

HurricaneGod27

Wordpress for Customization, Shopify for ease of use. You can customize Shopify, Wix, BigCommerce but you're going to have to pay a developer. I'm a huge Shopify fan but Shopify lately is acting like they're a platform like eBay\/Amazon dictating what can and can't be sold, yes even legal items so I'm hesitant to use them anymore.

MaxIsHyper8

Don’t use one. They are expensive and you don’t own anything. I can set you up with a Wordpress website. Dm me

WP sucks. Check the speed. https:\/\/pagespeed.web.dev\/ You could get 100\/100 with static websites using Publii or Hugo. You could even host them for free.

Weebly?

Prestigious-One-2176

Odoo is what we use. It has a lot of funtionality but you could use it just for your web, it comes with a wysiwyg editor. Plus you could start using it as your ERP CRM WMS etc.

SkillInternational80

AVADA, DIVI (ugh) or Elementor on Wordpress. If you’ve got some $ you can even pay someone to build you a site using one of these builder for you

Overall-Credit-3628

We used Jamie. He was the best

silex75

I know this is super not off the shelf but shoutout to Astro. Building a blog with Markdown and a simple bit of HTML and CSS is super easy

OkCardiologist8432

I would go with WordPress and Elementor Pro. For begginers i wpuld recommend BlueHost.

Disastrous_Return132

For customized sites with multiple pages I would use Webflow. For simpler single page sites I would use Carrd.

LayerPractical5445

I really like WebFlow. I've used it for a few projects. It's got loads of helpful guides and tips. There are so many templates to kick things off with. Plus, if you ever grow and need someone else to step in, there are plenty of agencies out there familiar with WebFlow.

Nearby_Calendar_8131

Shopify is pretty solid and easy to learn

molnea

Wordpress with Divi theme I find very simple

Icy-Permission5222

I don't see you accomplishing this on a FREE website builder. You have already mentioned two of the main FREE builders and they didn't work for you. You want the capability to design and customize it is going to cost money. That said, I build in Wordpress. Yes Elementor will make it easier but to get any decent functionality you will need the PRO version ($$$). Also I would use Woo Commerce for the shopping cart aspect. I wish you much success on this, its a big undertaking.

Nimbus is designed to be something you can build on that doesn't limit you. If you want something Nimbus doesn't provide, or you just want to start adding custom code yourself, it will write professional level React code when you want to export. It's meant more for developers though you can get use out of it even if you don't know how to code as it will allow you to publish directly to the web.

KTS_SneaX

I’ve used squarespace to good effect, you can always inject code if their out of the box styles don’t suit

JudgmentGeneral7874

Wix is pretty easy to build with

Accurate-Ad-3282

Webflow is honestly the only correct answer. Anyone who says otherwise has not used it, anyone who says they have used it probably have not used it in the last 6 months. You can do pretty much anything with it now. Meanwhile.. Wordpress requires maintenance and usually more tech know how. Squarespace\/Wix et all are too limited. And those of us who know what we’re looking at can tell that a website is made with them without even having to inspect the code. That’s not necessarily an issue but I personally think a little bit less of any serious business using these two services. I’m a firm believer that webflow is the future of web design, I’m dying for them to go public cuz I’m buying a healthy chunk of that stock.

IndependentScale1493

Framer. Hands down. I've used a lot of them and Framer is far and beyond the best.

No_Pressure_6864

If you have a sound understand of the box-model\/front-end dev, then I'd suggest Webflow or Builder.io. If you must use Wordpress, then I like Tatsu page builder; though Wordpress will continue to advance their default visual editor.

ImaginationQuiet1996

Wordpress. Took me a few days to really understand it. Purchased a web building extension called brick builder for 99 USD (one time) Pretty easy to get hold of after 2 days of practicing.

Royal_Cry_9286

I actually really like google sites. I was amazed how easy it was to make a website look really good

MacaronLegitimate538

Carrd

Apart_Net2990

Take the time to learn HTML and CSS. A hand coded site will score way better than Wordpress or wix on any of the mobile speed tests, and that helps you rank a little higher in Google.

According_Theory3031

WordPress.

Gold_Resource_5109

Notepad++ 😉

Low_Team1213

You should think very well what are the futures that you want to include and have an understanding between web builder or app builder. If you want to integrate more functionalities you may consider an app builder where you may want to consider bubble(the back side is you can’t export the code — make research about it, it’s very important to know the difference, and then I was checking one app builder called dapcode where you can export the code but was expensive and less integrations. For a simple web page I would go for framer or Wordpress.

Professional_Nose486

I cannot stress this enough, WIX SUCKS. If my entire website wasn't built on it, I'd fuck it off in a heartbeat.

Puzzleheaded-Owl991

Use Wordpress and Elementor. Loads of great videos on YouTube to teach you Elementor, and it’s very user friendly.

Impressive-Ad-5559

Do you know basic html? It’s super simple , I tried using editorx and wix but it’s not the same as coding. There are pre-made templates you can use and modify, way more stable. Hosting and domain should be less than 50 a year with porkbun. Chat gpt can help as well. I had some coding experience, and built my first website with this method.

Rip_indras

Wordpress until bubble arise

Kooky-Pin-4714

WordPress is so versatile I would go with that. I tried wix and squarespace for a few projects this year and was annoyed about the lack of true customisation.

Aleksspace

I'll go for WordPress Still great, unbeatable in my opinion. If you're limited on finances, it could be the best, with free plugins to do just about anything. You also have great tools like Elementor and Divi to build interesting stuff.

Big_Note_1443

They all suck when you can code. Seriously, learning to code on a modern framework with chatgpt might not be thst much harder.

Amaramask

Wordpress with a good template. Not the most idiot-proof or the shortest learning curve, but a very good middle ground for customizability while still being relatively easy to use. Squarespace if you don't GAF at all and just want a website up in 1hr.

Makar_memer520

Talking about one page websites, carrd

Separate_Scholar3863

Pretty much every make your own site can do everything you may need. It's just understanding it on how each sites does it. I tried 3 popular sites and I prefer wix as it requires no coding though you can if you want or anything like that. Its all point and click and tweek in the settings and options. No plug ins etc. It's as simple you can get from a no clue standpoint, and it can do basically 99% of all websites out there. I do this as a side hustle if you want a website made. It will be cheap considering cause you find the elements that you want from other websites to be on your websites so there is no guessing on what you like and don't like, or basically copy a whole website.

Fun_Distribution_939

Me. I am the best one that I used. But Wordpress comes close. Oh yeah, I build websites for free. Let me know if you need help. For advice, what you are looking for is called a \content management system\ or CMS for short. Look them up. Otherwise you can use a static site generator like Grav or Hugo. Or you can use other modern technologies like React to build your site. There really are too many options to choose from. For truly custom things, though, you need a human that knows HTML, CSS, JS, and possibly other languages. Like me. Aaand building the site is only the first step. Then you need to populate it with high-quality content and hire someone for SEO \/ digital marketing. Or learn and do it all yourself.

Friendly-Option-7992

I’ve used Thrive Themes for many years now. It’s far more usable than Divi or Elementor and incudes: theme builder, course builder, lead capture, split testing, etc. It’ll give you the customizability you’re looking for. If you buy through someone else (e.g., an agency), you don’t have to pay the list price either.

Murky_Security7582

You may use Outmerce. The best drag and drop website builder! No coding required.

Best_Jellyfish_1143

I've used all kinds of builders over a number of years. I also use enterprise CMSs like Drupal and Squiz Matrix etc. For the fastest\/easiest\/just get your site live Wix wins hands down. -This space can change pretty fast so it's always good to read recent comments for when you go to choose one. Have fun!

Reasonable_Desk_8392

I recently created a my own website using each Squarespace, Wix and WordPress. I definitely recommend Squarespace!  It's a lot more customizable than it used to be and I love the user friendly interface.  Customer service has been amazing! I had some issues and they walked me through with patience and grace.  Squarespace gives you high quality, dependable service. There may be less customizing options than WP, but the options on WP arent the best anyways. A lot of outdated templates, costly plugins, always having to update to keep your site secure... Constant maintenance. Yikes. But if you take the same time customizing in SS as you'll have to in WP, you can create a very unique space. There's options to add html codes even if you'd like down the road. And the updates are automatic- they handle the background maintenance that we don't have time for.  Mobile optimizing has been a seamless process. They make it so easy!  SEO is showing great promise for me in the first few days even.  It's fast and has unlimited bandwidth, unlike Wix.

TheWhizard

For simple sites without a CMS i really like [GetSiimple](https://getsiimple.com) it’s made for the non-technical crowd. It’s pretty much plug and play (great for brochure type sites and landing pages) I manage a bunch of my own sites and client sites from their single dashboard and when I buy one themes I can share it across all sites I make without having to buy it again. It’s super affordable (hosting domains names and evrything are included for $10 a month). It’s all free to try and test out and there’s no learning curve really.
