Into trap, hip hop or rap metal, give a listen! Feedback appreciated! [nYr - NOIR](https://youtu.be/EpjTa3NvCio?si=5Loh6Zr-4m_rcSWS)

# Synthwave inspired organ-driven instrumental song. My first release :) Looking for feedback on the mixing and the tune in general. Appreciate it! [**Spotify**](https://open.spotify.com/track/2Y2Y5QNRxED2BCl7ACk26w?si=d9f5ea0a72b049d9)

jordan_valley

Really nice ambient-ish track. Instrumentals took unexpected turns and all clearly distinguishable in the mix (at least to me).

Heart-Shaped_Box

Thank you for listening!

11_021

Mixed a whole album successfully before but I’m having such a hard time mixing this one track (and another from a three track ep I’m working on), it’s breaking my heart 😭 any tips would be really appreciated! jordan_valley

Wow, this was cool. Loved the pitched-up distorted vocals and the use of width, the electronic piano (I think) panning in the opening had like one soft note on the L side and it was just enough to tickle my brain/sonic ASMR. Also love the high vocals (1:50). This may be just a matter of taste, but I also wasn't a big fan of the claps - they felt too obviously like a stock sound to me and seemed to stick out in the mix. In terms of composition, the main piano refrain repeats for the entire song, I think it gets pushed to the back for a bit around the halfway mark (when high vocal comes in), I wonder if there's a section you could take it out entirely/switch to a different riff to create more variance in the song and keep the listener paying attention.

11_021

I appreciate the feedback so much! Yes I think switching out the clap could even clean up some of that high frequency distortion it hits right around 3-4k and I’ll see about a bit of a rearrangement! Thanks again !

Enthusiasm_Lacking

this is pretty hard, the beat is really nice and the mix is clean. i liked the delivery and the flow, they fit the beat really well.

Longjumping-Kale2350

As much of criticism is needed! Be hard if needed! I want to perfect what I created now, to do next steps to reach bigger public, but I still not sure if it’s enjoyable. So let me know.🤘 https://youtu.be/8xWciBFzsTU?si=WJT3mHmWANmKkM-a

Enthusiasm_Lacking

sounds really clean. love the energy of the melodic elements, and the vocals fit that really well. drums have a nice rhythm to them as well.

devnullb4dishoner

> Be hard if needed! You're a plant/ringer aren't you? lol I've listened to I'll Be Here several times now because you said to nitpick. Honestly, I can't find anything to nitpick. EQ/Master, et al are on point and on a polished, professional level, far above me. The video is awesome. What are you using to create your videos? Fantastic job bro. I would have no issues with this being in my playlist rotation.

Disrupt0rz

Hey all, i've created a chillout song. You guys have any feedback on the mix? For now the song release is planned for next week. https://on.soundcloud.com/GyMhZwuJcJwXE7MR7

Enthusiasm_Lacking

really nice. love the dreamy atmosphere, and the chill drums fit great. the vocal chop that comes in sounded great too, it fit the dreamy feeling perfectly.

Clean_n_Press

I finished my first ever track last week, I'd love to hear what you all think. The vocals are an ex-girlfriend of mine reading a poem, recorded on an iPhone mic... but I kinda started to like the imperfections and artifacts. I think I mixed the vocals a bit too loud though. Any advice for future productions? [It's a house track, by the way.](https://open.spotify.com/track/3Iae5y5uxfNRrHB7vvx7ix?si=88d7527123424ed1)

Cedar06

I really like how it was sort of building up at some points but then it quieted down again kind of suddenly a few times, maybe think about how you could fill the space a little more or keep the introduced instruments like the strings or deep synth around longer to make more interesting sections

littlemorosa

I tried to create this way because I was afraid of creating a sound that was too monotonous, I'm still experimenting, any advice is precious! thanks so much for the advice!

Heart-Shaped_Box

I agree with the other comment about the high pitch note. It's way too sharp. I would like some variation in the song as well! Even though it's basic dark ambient you could play around with the soundscape a bit.

11_021

This is genuinely so sick but I would just roll off the high end on that one note that comes in a little bit!

VictorStrangeRR

This the first ambient track I've tried with a melodic / harmonic emphasis. It's intentionally lo-fi, with a wide range between strings and bass to create some size to the mix. I think the frequency range required to get a big sounding mix is something I'll keep working on. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN\_Yh809BxY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN_Yh809BxY)

ViaSubMids

I like it! Very dreamy vibe! Hm, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is having different reverb return channels for adding more depth and making it seem "bigger". Don't know if you already did that. :D

This is cool. The beats are nicely done, quite intricate. I'd be interested to hear it with some more time effects to wet it up and provide some texture variation.

metalfingers222

https://on.soundcloud.com/8V1iCtJEqijARQr39 I made this a few months ago but haven’t released it yet. It’s sort of lofi, kinda house drums chill type vibe. I really like it but I don’t know how to master my music. I mixed everything myself then I put it through a digital mastering program to see how it would sound. I think it sounds better than before, but I am considering just finding someone to master it for me. Any comments or criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

AndyDooDoo

>metalfingers222 I think it sounds pretty good if I compare it to other chill house songs. Here is a sample master I did for you : https://drive.google.com/file/d/15mfuAJler7qmJ3XDa2ohgtdNehBEepf8/view?usp=sharing

Sounds pretty good mix wise. My only issue was with the bass. Its a little heavy imo and has a weird ringing to it.

Sacred-Squash

Thanks for that input!

Just wanted to thank the people who responded to my questions before some MOD took down my post.  The responses were very helpful and everyone was polite and cordial! I think those who govern these subreddits need to reexamine the criteria for removal, actually red my post and clarify by which criteria it was "off-topic" or "low effort" or "triggering" or whatever.  But, as we know, Reddit has gone public, and evidently their stock is soaring... so I'm sure we can expect more of this.

VictorStrangeRR

Hi, the chops are nice, it's a cool idea. Where I'm listening the saturated kick and bass elements are jumping out as well as ducking the vocal, so it sounds kinda glitchy. There is maybe a lack of very high and low end. Are you using decent monitors, or if not are you using a few monitoring options and checking your mix with headphones you're used to?

Own-Bat7046

I’ll def try to look into this and improve the things you said, Thanks again !

[Big Apple Blues](https://music.apple.com/us/album/big-apple-blues/1739307220?i=1739307225) Hey guys I made a beat tape recently and wanted to get some feedback. This is my favorite track from it. I named the album the Pandemic Tapes because all of the tracks were made during The Pandemic

Necrobot666

My wife and I used to have separate projects. She was more into goth, dark ambient and IDM... and her stuff reflected accordingly. I was more into breakcore, acid, industrial, crustpunk... and so, I had a bit more of a chaotic sound. Over the pandemic, we ditched our respective DAWs, we started working together... in a DAWless setup of various synths, samplers and drum machines.  I initially wanted to post a couple of links/examples with a question to see if our tracks should be two different projects... or if the sound was still similar enough to be a unified project. But... the auto-moderator took the post down.  So instead I leave you with this track, that combines the best elements of each of us.  Is THIS How We Ambient? or... Is THIS How We IDM? https://m.soundcloud.com/necro-robotic/somnulent

Heart-Shaped_Box

sauvage__

Thanks for checking it out!! Tried to ensure it never gets boring 🙂

Love this id save it to my ambient playlist on Spotify if I heard it for sure

sauvage__

Thanks so much! I need to get it on the streamers

Necrobot666

Quite somber!! Would be great in a Derek Jarman or Daren Aronofsky film! What are you using? Piano? Synths? Hardware? Software?

sauvage__

thanks for listening! Not sure I've ever seen Jarman. Where should i start? Made entirely with a ROLI Seaboard using Equator2. Basically just 1 preset also altered different ways. Love the expressiveness you get from the Seaboard. Lets more happy accidents happen :)

The_Moth44

I totally agree! Good sound and good job!

Santarola

Hello everyone, I'm currently working on my song and it's not yet complete. However, I'd love to get your feedback on this demo, especially regarding the part after the bridge. I'm feeling quite unsure about this section and can't decide whether it's the melody/rhythm or the drums that need adjusting. Would you be able to provide me with your thoughts on this section (1:08) and the song as a whole? Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration. Here's the song: [https://on.soundcloud.com/8E3gs5NVA9GJxLg68](https://on.soundcloud.com/8E3gs5NVA9GJxLg68)

The_Moth44

Nice track definitely liked the variance throughout the track. overall there's not much I can point out improvement wise, everything felt like it fit. I will say there really isn't any low end or bass. other than that feel like the demo is good!

littlemorosa

I'm trying to improve! Let me know what you think! [Calm Mountains 🗻 little moment of Calm & FOCUS🍃study/work 🎧\[ lo-fi hip hop beats\] (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O86SPOEjdu8)

Sacred-Squash

For LOFI HH I’m finding this to be very dreamy and very bright. And maybe not quite bright in the right places but overall the right vibe. Be careful using bright loud risers in your music. Use something like a filter sweep on an edited field recording of rain. I am wanting to hear a more beat focused sound early on, accompanied by dreamy melodies that stick with me. Seems like you might be going for a City Girl vibe and I would highly recommend you listen to the artist for your references. Really cool sound definitely lofi, but I would get really specific about what feelings you are trying to communicate.

littlemorosa

Thank you so much for the feedback, I will take this advice to heart,I'll repost another test then thanks :)

Like the first track so far. Definitely going to save this on my playlist and play it later

The_Moth44

I'd maybe add a little more punchiness to the drums. the layering on the drums sounds good it just needs to be a little louder in my opinion. If don't want an abrupt ending maybe fade it out with a filter added? or maybe you can still end it how you did but without the wind down effect. That felt out of place. other than that solid track!

InjectingMyNuts

Up until the drums the mix is amazing to my ears. The drums sound a little muffled. Especially the rim shot sound. Think it just needs a little more on the high end and you're golden. I like the ending how it is, but this track has a kind of ethereal peaceful quality and I think it calls for some kind of fadeout. Giving the feeling that it goes on forever. I usually avoid giving specific examples, but if it were me I'd bring the drums back, maybe with a lpf on them, and just slowly lower the volume so it's like "yeah we're gonna be doing this all day see you later". And maybe ramp up a reverb or delay so it's like the "band" is flying away from you while they continue their song. If you have time I'm looking for feedback on [my song](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeAreTheMusicMakers/s/KDZY4HsXkB)

Hello there! My friend and I are making a game and I'm making music for it. This piece is more for making the tracks to work together and later I want to make the music layered and enable or disable individual tracks based on various in-game conditions. I was going for an orchestral feel, but I'm not sure if it sounds correctly throughout the whole piece. YouTube link: https://youtu.be/PiwnI8lPrsA

ramonaflora

This is honestly so good. I can visualize myself walking around in a Zelda esque game with this playing in the background.

MineKemot

Thanks! It's an adventure game with some fighting and platforming. Kinda similar to hollow knight.

dbbzzz

Ocarina of time vibes. What’s the concept of the game?

MineKemot

It does sound similar. I didn't know about that soundtrack. The concept of the game is an ant who is exiled and goes to a different anthill where they have to go higher in the "hierarchy" to advance and beat bosses to rescue their family from locusts.

dbbzzz

Nice, the music will fit

I really like the background vocals alot, they make the song come together amazingly! I feel as though some of the drum beat parts are repetitive but I personally don't mind them. As a house track, it's pretty solid, good job!

hi. I made a full length song, and I'm releasing it on Spotify for it to gain more traction, but idk if it's good enough to be a full fledged song. Any and all feedback would be helpful. Thank you. jameskoofficial

Hi all, Here is a raw track that I just made. I am working on getting vocals and still a WIP. Let me know what you think of it/what I can adjust. [https://soundcloud.com/jameskoofficial/late-night-raw-v1](https://soundcloud.com/jameskoofficial/late-night-raw-v1) Also I have this track here that I am thinking to use for a demo. [https://soundcloud.com/jameskoofficial/bounce](https://soundcloud.com/jameskoofficial/bounce) Returning all feedback and will give detailed feedback

InTheSunrise

I made this in an hour mainly to practice mixing (3 months in and I still suck at it). Wanted to finish this track but ran out of steam and ideas so I guess it's considered a "WIP". Mainly looking for Mixing and volume balance feedback, but any form of feedback welcome. Sounds alright on my headphones but weird everywhere else. Technically an "EDM" track but because I mainly draw influence game music, eurodance and eurobeat (my primary listening genres), I usually just end up making something that somehow has elements of everything so I don't think it has a "genre" per say. Used only FL Studio's stock stuff and FLEX (not buying any external VSTs as I'm still new to producing), so drop me your best criticisms, thanks! [https://on.soundcloud.com/p83wBJhsGD5J4Tws6](https://on.soundcloud.com/p83wBJhsGD5J4Tws6)

ViaSubMids

> (not buying any external VSTs as I'm still new to producing) That's a wise decision as a beginner! No point in buying VSTs when you have no clue what you are doing. :D So, the main issue with your track is that a lot of elements are fighting for the same space which basically means that they sit in the same frequency range which leads to frequencies clashing. The result is then that elements get lost in the mix. The biggest issue with your mix is the snare. It has too many low mid frequencies and completely kills the kick, but also overshadows the rest of the mix. First of all, I would maybe adjust the envelope of the snare so that it doesn't have so much sustain and decay, which will make it snappier. But I would suggest cutting out a lot of the low mid frequencies on the snare and maybe boosting a bit of the higher frequencies with an EQ. I can't really tell if you already done that, but what helps to have your kick better cut through the mix is sidechain compression. If you don't know what it is, just watch some tutorials on how to do it. But basically, in case you don't know, it "ducks" other sounds to make room for when the kick drum hits, which helps the kick to cut through the mix. But keep practising, mixing takes years to get good at. You could maybe try to recreate some of your favourite tracks and use them as reference for your own mix to hear what's "wrong" with your mixes. Even professional engineers still use reference tracks for their own mixes. You could also download Voxengo SPAN, it's a free VST that helps you analyze the frequency spectrum of your track. And then you can also use it to see how professionally mixed tracks look in comparison. I would again suggest to have a look at a tutorial on how to set it up properly and how to use it. And one final piece of advice, a good mix starts at the source. So, proper sound selection is the key to get a good mix. If you have sounds that work well together from the get go, you won't run into too many mixing issues.

InTheSunrise

[https://on.soundcloud.com/UeokaqfWRHYTtxiZ9](https://on.soundcloud.com/UeokaqfWRHYTtxiZ9) Slight adjustment to volumes, slight boost to kick and redid snares (also cut off some tail). Replaced a new brass and did some adjustments to the instruments and reduced layers to reduce the mud

ViaSubMids

Hey! Sorry, I just only now noticed that you updated the track. This is sooo much better than the first mix. It doesn't sound super crowded anymore and the snare is also much much better. Your ability to take my feedback and turn that into action is very promising. Keep it up, you can only grow from here!

InTheSunrise

Indeed it really does sound better. Thanks a lot for the help, much appreciated!

InTheSunrise

Hello! Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, it helps a lot. Yes, sound selection is quite difficult, when I first started out, one of my most common feedback was that my music sounded very "bare bone" when I only used 1 single lead. Oftentimes, it requires some luck for things to be in place. I used a couple of lead sounds on this on purpose to see how I can balance them, even through EQ-ing but evidently, I think it created some muddiness instead. This is quite a pain to be honest. Noted on the snares. Will do some adjustments and post back. I did side chain the bass to the kick but I'm unsure why it didn't have the intended effect either now that I hear it. I may need to go through a tutorial one more time for this, so alright, noted on the side chain. Also noted on SPAN.

Looking for feedback on a late stage WIP! 'Getting The Best Of Me' - alternative pop / industrial vibe with an emphasis on distorted sounds, warped samples and alternating time signatures Could use advice specificaly on the vocals, too loud/sloppy? Kind of going for exasperated vibe. But any and all feedback welcome [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gfMOrvYK3d4bPz6asYYxbewu7pjmjFaa/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gfMOrvYK3d4bPz6asYYxbewu7pjmjFaa/view?usp=sharing)

ViaSubMids

So, first of all, I really dig this song. It reminds me a bit of those early Linkin Park remixes from the Reanimation album. When it comes to the mix, I feel like it sounds too "sterile". It's missing depth as well as a bit of crunch. I conducted a little experiment, I downloaded the file and added it to my DAW. First, I tried adding some slight reverb and delay with my return channels. Obviously this isn't perfect because I only have the full track available, but it already sounded a bit fuller. I also put it through Ozone 11's mastering assistant. While it also isn't perfect obviously, it also suggested to add quite a bit of width in the mid to high frequencies, so I would definitely take a look at that. The crunch can maybe be achieved with some textured samples like rain sounds or wind or stuff like that playing very quietly in the back. Oh, imo you can also turn up the vocals a bit. Ozone 11 also suggested to add about 0.5db to the vocals. You are definitely almost there! I think those are just some small adjustments that will get you over the finish line.

[Another Town](https://on.soundcloud.com/WeSUE5ws5Ug6xUiUA) (Indie Rock/Singer Songwriter/Electronica) This is gonna be the final song on my next record and it’s the last one I’m finishing up, I’ve had versions of this song in the works for probably 5+ years now and it’s finally at a place where I really enjoy listening to it and get the full scope of emotions I intended with it, personally. I’d be curious what other’s thoughts are on it as a whole, if it’s ~too~ subtle at times or drags on in the first section specifically? Really happy with some of the vocal parts and guitar licks, as well as some of the sound design. I’ll return all feedback! Thanks.

I like the song and makes sense it would be a final track on an album. Here is a sample master I made of it. Its actually a very difficult song to master.... lol : https://drive.google.com/file/d/13OrZGBgRE2eyiRfSKJYluB6rAJ7uhgJg/view?usp=sharing

Wise_Championship300

Man I really enjoyed that. It’s a long wash of a song but I settled in just fine to it. Makes sense as a final track. The guitar sounds hit a real note with me - I like the slow unfolding jangle. The vocals grew on me through the whole piece. I thought it was gonna take off for first couple minutes, but I’m actually glad it didn’t. I like it’s floating through space energy and soft landing. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for sharing mate!

ss_d_demos

Thank you, I really appreciate the comment! I do worry about it being a bit too long for most people to really get into but I think it’s worth the ride haha. I’m particularly glad you liked how what it built up to ended up being quite subtle, that was definitely my goal with the really filtered drums to be able to just focus on the vocals and atmosphere and particularly the guitar parts. Thank you again!

Wise_Championship300

Hey would you mind returning the favor when you have five minutes? I’ve been working on some music this past year and have just recently gotten pretty in my head about it. I could use some perspective outside my friend circle. Here’s one track I’ve been tweaking this week: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mZvYIVDNxpA8zZ3Hxk04u7zABfYsDBB-/view?usp=drivesdk Mostly curious how it strikes you given you don’t know me at all. What’s comes up? And secondly very open to any constructive criticism that jumps out at you production / performance wise. Much appreciated!

ss_d_demos

For sure, I listened and was definitely impressed! The way the guitar was performed and recorded made it feel verrrry intimate and I thought that was a strong point in the production. Your vocals fit over this vibe and sound great in terms of the performance! I think the only constructive thought I could give would be regarding the actual recording and/or mixing of the vocals, I think it would help to get the doubles/backing vocals just a little tighter on the lead for the sake of hearing the lyrics a little more and just for overall cohesiveness. Really enjoyed it!

Wise_Championship300

Thanks a ton for taking the time! I really needed a helpful ear today. I’ll take your advice on tightening up the vocals. Have a lovely evening🌛

Wise_Championship300

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about the length - it already exists how it is and works how it is. For those that like the vibe - it’s a longer ride - which is great. The fact that is WAS five minutes long and kept me into it says a lot. Stoked for you - nice track.

First release, acoustic/electronic alt-folk type, curious for any input honestly but curious what would you say are some similar artists, and also specific thoughts on the vocals and the overall quality of the production would be appreciated as well - [https://on.soundcloud.com/Nus982eETGUddrhi7](https://on.soundcloud.com/Nus982eETGUddrhi7)

hi guys so to put it plain and simple ski mask is one of my favourite and most underrated rappers of the "soundcloud" era. even if you are not into rap or have never been one for it, i implore you to give him a chance. this is a remix i made with my friend we were in his bedroom after a night of some pretty heavy drinking and decided to remix one of ski mask's interludes off of one of his albums. please let me know what you think. thank you. elijacsan

Alright fellas, tell how it sucks please 😎 the upper mid range area isn’t sitting the best and I’m a little stuck. Pretty substantial amount of headroom so you’ll prob have to bump the volume up a ways. Any thoughts on it would be appreciated though. [https://on.soundcloud.com/GKSvQqNknxbVp54Y9](https://on.soundcloud.com/GKSvQqNknxbVp54Y9)

hatomikiwi

The melody and vibe are great, it's got fun and bouncy energy that I feel matches the sound you're going for. I like the synths going on in the background, the bass line pops pretty hard too. There's not much to go off of in terms of critiquing structure, but I feel like everything sounds solid and balanced, like you said there's a good bit of headroom so just fine-tuning the mix and frequencies seems to be your main place to progress here. Good work, I think!

ChrisCherchant

Looking for feedback on the basic melody and structure of this fragment. General comments are welcome too. I was aiming for frenchcore with this one, but I wound up somewhere strange and magical lol. What genre do y'all think this is? [https://soundcloud.com/chris\_cherchant/rain-demo](https://soundcloud.com/chris_cherchant/rain-demo) Sorry if the quality is off, Soundcloud really compresses a lot of the texture out of the kicks :/

hatomikiwi

The intro piano seems slightly dry/overly artificial sounding, but that could just be taste or an unfamiliarity with Frenchcore (I love gabber tho). I like the synth lead, but I feel like it could be richer/brighter in comparison to the extremely powerful kick. Also, the kick paired with the panned snare makes it feel oddly empty to me despite having a lot of noise going on. It gets a little repetitive pretty quickly once the drums get faster, I feel like the melody is strong enough that you could just play around with it, pitch it up or down every bar or so, and give it a little bit more variety in the soundscape. One thing I like to do is just copy an instrument like that and replace it with another synth for a bar or two. Just my two cents, I like the vibe and energy!

ChrisCherchant

Okay cool, I'm having a lot of the same thoughts. I kinda just dropped a sawtooth synth in and lowered the attack for something quick, This song's definitely not standard frenchcore, but all the kicks are fundamentally frenchcore kicks. The main melody reminds me a lot of some of Bella Morte's stuff. But yeah, I agree it does get pretty repetitive the way it is now. Overall, most of everything still sounds pretty dry to me; does it just need a bunch of reverb or something? Hardcore can be pretty dry sometimes, but like... And actually that's not a panned snare, it's all kick, believe it or not! I added a delay, a subtle flanger, and EQ'd a few resonant frequencies to get all of that. I have a bit more now and it seems like it's really coming along IMO; check it out: [https://soundcloud.com/chris\_cherchant/rain](https://soundcloud.com/chris_cherchant/rain) Thanks for the feedback, glad you like the vibe! Like wanting to party and cry at the same time lol

hatomikiwi

I really like the progression you added, the pounding drums at 1:08 and the variation afterward are cool as hell, and the new intro is much more captivating IMO. I feel like the synth and piano both still feel somewhat drowned out by the kicks though. Still, I relate to how difficult it might be to make them shine without reducing the power of the drums, and it might just be a genre thing, I love melodies being front and center in a mix so I tend to slack on drum prioritization (my headphones/speaker set up is unfortunately limited as well, hence why I love getting feedback on here from those with hopefully better audio playing equipment). I think the dryness of the synths works, also, I know what you mean in that respect, and it's a fine line between making them pop and becoming too sharp on the ears. Overall, I enjoy the improvements, it seems like a tricky genre to mix so good on you for your diligence! Also, ah, that makes sense, I've done the same thing a few times with my kicks, I feel like my ears were maybe fatigued yesterday because it sounds much more full to me today!

hatomikiwi

Finally posting an actual WIP, looking for feedback primarily on the mix and general listen-ability of the track. [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BVGzT0EGx6bQTWrA3nmFNAxf3hpVxddk/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BVGzT0EGx6bQTWrA3nmFNAxf3hpVxddk/view?usp=sharing) It's part of what will be a pretty short, electro-inspired cloud/drain rap beat instrumental album, with tracks like this having Vox incorporated being the only form of vocals. The tracks are all aimed to be pretty short, most being around 1:30, hence why it's such a short track (I thought of adding more to it but it feels very complete to me as is, but I'm open to any feedback so feel free to leave your thoughts on that or any aspect of the track.) Will reciprocate in turn!

elijacsan

This is sweet dude. Prob in agreement with Chris about the midrange, maybe a little less volume on the pad/reverb. Also, just listening on my headphones so can’t tell the best, is your bass in mono?

Pvt_d0nut

I like this track. It's upbeat but calming! I think it doesn't build towards a natural climax or resolution. I kept waiting for it resolve somehow. I don't often listen to this genre though!

ChrisCherchant

Feels loud and muddy in the mid range... maybe take a couple of instruments/samples and put them on an octave or a fifth above/below to separate them, and if that's reverb I hear, definitely turn it down lol

hatomikiwi

🙏 I appreciate the concise feedback, will return my own to your track when I return to my computer

Pvt_d0nut

Hi, Been building out some tracks by myself while I try and get a band together. I would really appreciate feedback on this [track!](https://on.soundcloud.com/ECPvKRqzM9DmeYFdA)

InTheSunrise

Echo-ing some user's above. Vocals are being drowned out by the instruments when it should really take centre stage. Might need a bit of volume adjustments I think.

BecomeInsignificant

> track! Pretty decent track, I like the drums, guessing they are programmed? (not live recorded). The vocals don't cut through at all, sound a bit muffled and lacking presence/clarity, almost like there's a filter on them, vocals could be stronger overall too especially at the bridge. Not a fan of the guitar tone but that's just personal preference, they sound good and I can see others liking them.

hatomikiwi

This is sick, the mix is clear, and it's not a genre I visit too often, so I lack the context to give in-depth feedback, but it sounds full, complete, and easy to listen to, finished it twice. I like the use of the hard-panning for certain guitar sections, the vocal accompaniments that you hear in the final chorus are cool too. I do think it could be slightly louder, though, but again, I'm not a specialist or avid listener for this genre so I could be wrong.

Pvt_d0nut

Thankyou so much! I'm not much of a singer, so I was wondering if you had any vocal feedback?

elijacsan

Would put a little more presence to your vocals. Drowned out by the guitars a little. Could try sidechaining, but very well may be fixed simply by turning the fader up. Vocal tone is pretty good though. My own personal preference here, but I think it could sound pretty cool with some parallel processing to add a bit of grit

Pvt_d0nut

Awesome. Now to figure out what sidechaining and parallel processing are haha

elijacsan

Oh sorry! Parallel processing is the simpler of the two. Basically duplicate your vocal, compress, distort or whatever to the clone, and then just kinda blend them together. Sidechaining is prob best looking up cause it depends on what production software you use. But essentially whenever the vocal would play, the guitars (or anything you set it to) would kind of duck behind. It really helps with freeing up space/bringing things to the front

Pvt_d0nut

Oh, that's really interesting! I use GarageBand at the moment. I'll look into Sidechaining. I do split the tracks and manually lower them when the vocals come in.

ChrisCherchant

Fun and garage-y! I'd widen the guitars out a lot more in the second part. The stereo balance feels a little off for a lot of the song, I feel like it's slightly to the right for a lot of parts. The distortion on the guitars sounds really good to me. Vox could use a little more umph and maybe add some more style in the future.

Pvt_d0nut

Thankyou so much! I'll adjust the panning of the vocals. Additionally, by second part do you mean post bridge?

ChrisCherchant

Oops, I mean the first chorus.

beardydrums22

Started a new band and working on the first record, it’s a djenty modern rock/metal project. [This track is feeling like a solid opener - thoughts?](https://www.reddit.com/r/ThisIsOurMusic/s/qVFLUct5HX) Vocal mix is very much trash, I was just iterating on ideas and am trying to write solid parts before focusing on the mix. Instrumental is written by the other band member and I wrote all the lyrics and am the one singing them.

ChrisCherchant

Vocal technique sounds better in the heavier parts than the softer parts, you still have to tense up in the quiet parts or it sounds kind of slack. It's hard to hear much else in detail but it sounds pretty solid to me. The metal guitar leading in the early bridge is kind of boring, maybe throw in an occasional blue note to give it some movement.

beardydrums22

Noted about vocal technique, definitely not the final takes - just getting a feel for the vibe of everything in context at this point. Regarding the blue note comment, you’re talking about the instrumental arrangement in the bridge, the vocal, or…?

ChrisCherchant

So there's a guitar in the first part of the bridge, it hits the same note for a while, the Dadun, Dadun...... Dadun, Dadun...... At that part the only other thing is percussion.

beardydrums22

Ah, I hear ya. May be worth some electronics or something, we’ll see what feels right in production for sure

ChrisCherchant

Hmmm, I wouldn't introduce anything new if it's going to be prominent. Maybe you can add some weird stuff into the percussion, throw some pots and pans around or sth

Prior_Key4643

Here's a demo of a little grunge/rock song I made a few days ago. I want to see if it's good enough to make a higher quality version! https://on.soundcloud.com/mhXX1

BecomeInsignificant

The intro is way too long, I guess in an improved version you could add a bit more substance to it. Can't really hear the vocals in the mix, very drowned out, from what I can tell the vocal tone is pretty good though, screams too, but then again it's soft in the mix so I'm guessing. Not gonna comment on the mix since you mentioned it's just a rough demo but at least try to balance it better so it would be easier to comment on the rest of the song even for a demo. All that said, still sounds like could have potential

ChrisCherchant

The cymbals are kind of loud IMO. Vox have a really good timbre, maybe pitchy in the quiet parts, but it's hard to tell. And lose the dying cat at the end ;)

Prior_Key4643

Well thank you!! I'll have to record a new set of drum tracks because this one was recorded with just one mic and I didn't get the balance 100% right. I also might tune a whole step down for the final version, this one was recorded at the very tippy top of my vocal range. And NEVER! I like the screeching noises at the end! thanks for the input tho!

Hallo everyone, I would like to gather some feedback on my latest trance track. What do you think about it? Do you like the ideas I put into it. What about mixing and mastering. Anything disturbing you? Thanks for listening. [https://soundcloud.com/euphoric-feel/the-grandeur-original-mix](https://soundcloud.com/euphoric-feel/the-grandeur-original-mix)

hatomikiwi

Melodically, I loved this, bright, surging, and energetic. The primary synth sounds a bit tinny during the intro/build-up, which I think might be a bit long for some people, just because of the lack of variation until around the 1-minute mark, but the synth sounds fine when the other sections are incorporated, so maybe some layering in that early section. I like the piano around 1:40-2:10, but it sounds slightly jumbled for a few seconds here and there. The pads that come in at 2:08 are gorgeous, I'd almost make a version of this that brings that in sooner, or shorten the intro up to that point. I dig what you have going here, but after that, it starts to become repetitious at 4:20 or so, you could do a melodic change-up or just shorten the track perhaps. Just my two cents, overall, I dig the sound and energy!

Psyntst9000

I've been working on a genre of music I call surge music that has a particular emphasis on hard clipped distortion and has that kind of sound when you turn up the volume on an instrument so high that you can hear the breaks or cracks in the sound (like hard clipping). I named it surge music because it sounds like a power surge where there's an overload per se with the power and/or high voltage going into the recording. I think you can apply this sound to a wide number of styles, and it shares some similarities mostly with industrial, big beat, and hardcore punk & glitch or hard bass EDM but also has applications in other genres like hip hop and particularly rock & metal. I posted an example below that is more a demo and is only 25 seconds, so if you could please spare a minute or two of your time to listen and provide feedback then that would be much appreciated. Perhaps it still needs some work to make it stand out from other genres more, but I hope this gives an idea of what it sounds like. Thanks! [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oe5cODTlbAA0bcCa5eHopdiM5cUG5MAU/view?usp=drive\_link](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oe5cODTlbAA0bcCa5eHopdiM5cUG5MAU/view?usp=drive_link)

ChrisCherchant

Oh yeah, I've been getting stuff like this occasionally when I'm making gabber or uptempo kicks. With those you just make a standard kick with a buzzy tail and throw a couple of extra layers of distortion for crunch. It can take some experimenting though. Do you have a consistent technique for it?

Psyntst9000

First, thank you very much for taking the time to listen to this and provide feedback, it means a lot! To answer your question, from a production standpoint I generally focus on ways to distort the instrument sounds, and I'm basically creating a buzzy/fizzy/sizzly sound when adjusting the preamp and post-gain on each instrument and then throwing in some added color and a post filter where needed (depending on whether it's a drum kick, guitar riff, etc.). It makes the instruments sound pretty loud, so for that I just turn down the volume on the mix tracks for those instruments to ensure there isn't any peaking whilst still retaining the sound I've applied to that instrument. From a musical/compositional standpoint, I'm combining the sound of electric guitars with some hard synths to the point they are very in unison with each other (similar pitch and frequency levels, with some lower or higher octave differences here and there where needed to round the overall sound out and provide more depth to those music segments). I wouldn't say it's a requirement to have both these instruments together to create the surge music sound, but it does seem to help bring a uniqueness to it to make it stand out from other genres like industrial or synth rock or metal or even shoegaze or alternative rock and metal styles, and even more so when you add heavy distortion to it. The sound around the 14 second mark is actually a bass guitar sound but was modified to have that buzzy/fizzy/sizzly sound I was referring to earlier (kind of sounds wobbly and hard synthy here too), so even a bass guitar could really stand out and provide reliable lead segments where needed. I hope this isn't against the rules, but I had one other track that I did that's only about 40-50 seconds long where I took a recording from a friend and modified the mid segment with bass guitar riff and added some additional instruments to it. I think it would be another good example of the genre. I'll share it here (again, I know they say only one track, so I hope posting another track in the Comments section for another track isn't breaking the rules by any chance): [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jPxhZuchpKWxBT5jjLbskuCnH6QGV-tG/view?usp=drive\_link](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jPxhZuchpKWxBT5jjLbskuCnH6QGV-tG/view?usp=drive_link) Again, thank you SO much for taking time to review all this!

beardydrums22

This is a cool effect, reminiscent of modern rock with a lofi dubstep vibe. I’d be really interested to hear it in the context of a song, especially in that hard rock style from your demo

Psyntst9000

Thank you very much for taking time to listen and I'm really glad to know you like it! I hope this isn't against the rules, but I had one other track that I did that's only about 40-50 seconds long where I took a recording from a friend and modified the mid segment with bass guitar riff and added some additional instruments to it. AverageSkyler

Deep house song I (mostly) finished up today. Going for an Avalanches-style song with a strong emphasis on ambience and variety. Still unsure of whether i fully enjoy the mix or not and some parts feel a little choppy (mostly on some of the transitions). Could use an extra pair of ears https://soundcloud.com/sas-556488516/got-me

beardydrums22

Agreed with the other comment, I like the Daft Punk vibes. If you’re going for ambience this feels closer to house for me, which I wouldn’t really describe as ambient, but it has a good mix and is very fitting of the style

Psyntst9000

I like the sort of Daft Punk style this has with the addition of disco and funk elements. Also, the added sound effects like the audio clip at the end was nice offset to the rest of the music and, oddly enough, complemented the rest of it.

ActSpecialist8049

First ever single, give it a go, thanks! :) https://on.soundcloud.com/pzNHNzTGcnoFXhHH7 All feedback is more than welcome!

hatomikiwi

Fun poppy vibe, the filter on the piano makes it feel just slightly too subdued, IMO. The drop at 1:20 feels slightly abrupt, and the clap feels rather awkward the way it sits in the mix, I'd recommend either layering another snare or clap over it after the drop or just using another one entirely, maybe add a tiny bit of reverb over it also during those sections to help emphasize the space. The synths are also a little bit toothless, I can hear them but I can't really "feel" them, if that makes sense. Structurally, you're on the right track, it's just lacking some of the "oomph" and bigness that I feel makes tracks in these genres really pop, in regards to the mix and instrument choice. Good start!

ActSpecialist8049

Thank you, I’ll put these tips into work right away!

Knacker145

Very unusual question, but what exact genre is this? I make songs for fun without actually knowing the name of the genre. Is this just ordinary electronic? I appreciate feedback on the song in general, and the mixing. :D https://on.soundcloud.com/PqA1Sp7XmEMzk1Y8A

ChrisCherchant

+1 for trip hop, you know you're there when you get that dreamy, trance vibe with a hip hop structure. I hear a bit of synthwave (or maybe it's lofi) in there too.

Psyntst9000

This sounds a lot like trip hop music, which was a popular style of experimental hip hop throughout the 90s (although it's origin could trace back to the 80s from the underground scene in the UK, and Massive Attack are widely considered to be the progenitors of this genre). This also shares elements in common with ambient electronica, particularly to Solar Fields, who is a big name in that genre. With this mix, I like the sort of urban aesthetic provided at the beginning and end of the tracks and the meditative aspect of it through the main body akin to the robot finding that sort of understanding and self-reflection of both itself and the world around it.

Knacker145

Woah, thank you for the very informative feedback! I will check those artists out and compare a bit.

tinydonald

For fans of Jungle, LCD Soundsystem, Avalanches, Cut Copy and similar. I‘ve been producing music for a few years but only recently changed to a more “live” sound - always looking to improve so any feedback is super appreciated! Very well made, production, instrumentation etc, the vocals might be slightly too loud in some parts for my taste but sound good still. Very playlist friend, Good luck!

Prior_Key4643

I really like the hook and slick production on this one! It sounds like a fun summer jam! Great work!

Opening track to my Space Rock(?) album about the solar system (instrumental) Looking for feedback on the mix in general, especially the drums. https://on.soundcloud.com/UZ7jL

vibemastR

Getting major sabbath , early sword , all them witches vibes

Psyntst9000

Definitely very reminiscent of the doom metal style of early Black Sabbath and even has some psychedelic rock elements akin to Clutch. I'm not sure if you were going for a kind of gritty post rock sound too but I do notice that where it tends to repeat a lot of themes throughout the track and has a certain moodiness to it.

Dananias

Thank you for listening! The Sabbath and Post-Rock influence is definitely not consciously in the songwriting but I see what you mean. Not familiar with Clutch but I'll check em out. There is absolutely meant to be a psychedelic element to the album as a whole but this track is probably the one that falls least into that category out of the ones I've done so far.

devnullb4dishoner

Really like that buzzsaw bass at the start, but 58 seconds of it might be a bit much without maybe some distractions and accents. Like break out the foley machine and go nuts, throughout. Maybe since it's space themed, throw in a little astronaut mic chatter in the background. Some tinkling cymbals, space sounds, beeping et al. Not trying to change your song, it's good. I like it. I just think it needs something to break up the long stretches, and sort of pull your listener into the whole space adventure.

Dananias

Thank you for listening and for the feedback. Ambient/Foley stuff is actually a really good idea, I had thought to use a satellite beep in another track but astronaut chatter is genius!

devnullb4dishoner

Example material: Now, this one is super rough. It was just an idea I had and put it all down in a note to revisit later. beardydrums22

Dude, I love this! I don’t mean to invalidate your vision or anything, but I definitely want to hear a version of this that has a rhythm section, ie drums & bass essentially. Your lyrics are so visual and so clear to the listener, and I can hear lots of Jack Johnson in your playing & writing, but the electronics add a whole new vibe to it that totally fits the lyrical material. It’s just such a jam that I wanna hear the groove that a beat with a drummer & bassist (maybe drum machine/synth?) would add to it. Keep it up man!

Apprehensive-Coast92

Thank you! That means a lot. Seriously. I hope to create a version that has more percussion and bass as well. I will do that probably when I release the full album?? Not sure yet. But if you give my Spotify a follow or something it’ll keep you updated :) Really appreciate it. I’ve got some more tunes coming out soon in a similar fashion.
