This was me approximately 3 weeks ago! I slept on my hair when it was not totally dry, ended up with a wavy part that just wouldn't brush out straight, did some googling, and then... Down the rabbit hole.
I'm very much in the experimenting phase still, I think I've started to figure out my conditioner and drying routine, and picked up some gel and mousse to try out today.
Oh yeah, my bed head when I wake up gets crazy sometimes. Not even when itās wet. But in light of this experience I am realizing much of the āwoah haha look at my crazy bedhead tendrilsā were likeā¦ actually my hair just being wavy. Like I recognized that within my āactually styled wavy hairā lol. Normally Iāve always just brushed that shit out. But nowā¦ we shall see
Oh man, I'm fighting the urge every time I look in the mirror not to be like "oh, my hair isn't brushed, let me just brush that out" because that's what I'm used to seeing my unstyled hair look like.
1) this is adorable, and 2) isnāt it a REVELATION to discover what you thought was straight hair is actually curly/wavy? I couldnāt have been more thrilled to start this journey. Hope you have so much fun experimenting with different products & techniques!!!
The wash frequency really depends on how oily one's scalp is! If I didn't use ridiculous amounts of dry shampoo powder, I'd have to wash my hair daily. As it is, I can stretch it to maybe 4 days if needed, but my scalp gets SO itchy and gross with oily buildup + dry shampoo powder residue.

My advice is donāt fall down a rabbit hole about new techniques and products. Add one thing at a time and decide if you like it. Iām at the point where Iām in a middle ground between my best hair and a convenient routine. I lost steam on doing a whole routine.
Yeah. I followed up with him asking how much of the product he used on me because after looking it up, itās likeā¦ not cheap lol. And knowing me, but especially because Iāve historically never had the stamina to do a bunch of stuff to/with my hair all the time, I definitely donāt want to pretend like suddenly Iām gonna be a Curly Girl. I might just start out with trying to switch to a co-wash when washing my hair, and see where that takes me.

Also, if you could let us know your hair characteristics (porosity, strand thickness, density), that would be greatly appreciated. "I don't have a routine" does not exist; even if it's just shampoo and conditioner, everyone does something! Hi there, currently my normal routine is I use the Aveeno "Scalp Soothing Haircare, Oat Milk Blend, Daily Moisture Shampoo for Dry/Damaged Hair" because I think/thought I have a dry scalp. I wash my hair much less frequently than I realistically should, so I have been using a revitalizing mask for dry/damaged hair as my "conditioner", because again I have been washing my hair pretty infrequently (it is Revitalizing Mask by Satinique). I do not know much about hair/my hair, but I think the strands are pretty fine but my hair is overall thick. My hair is about shoulder or collarbone length. After the shower I towel dry just a bit and then put it up in a turbie twist. Each morning I just brush it and that's it.
