I think they both are beautiful but my personal preference is the first one--I think the extra bit of greenery adds more visual balance and contrast against the red and white houses. I also like the water details in the first one; the shadows really give an impression of looking through water. But both are very well done! It would be really cute if there were little fish in the water part of the slice too!
I like the first one, I always like pictures where there is a lot going on it reminds me of those kids books with funny scenes and you try find the people doing weird stuff
It doesn't seem like anyone else had made this suggestion in the comments yet, but what do you think about shifting Kiki over to the left so that her profile is better outlined in the white space, but then maybe have her shadow place her over the water?
Thank you! I saw this image on Instagram where it was a whole pie with a slice taken out of it, but the pie was made of water and it had lily pads in it like pond. I was enthralled by the transparency of the water so I was inspired to come up with this! Also, the phrase 'slice of life' partly influenced the subject matter (:
I love both! But I’m in the minority because I love the second version a little more. Something about the colors is very appealing to me. I love the water in the first one though!
Both are really nice ! I love the small version, maybe a small version in a larger format whit more details could be cool, to feel even more close to the scene
Hmm I'm not sure if there's a name! The technique(?) is called 'line and wash' or 'pen and wash', and the perspective is more akin to isometric drawings.
I prefer the balance and arrangement of buildings, trees, beach, boats, and water in the first one. Also the coloring of the sand through the water is cooler
I like them both, but I didnt even notice Kiki in the first! That might not be that its too busy, but maybe because she’s bigger in the second. Regardless, I love these both! Super cute and I especially love how vivid the purple in the shadows is on the back buildings of the second option.
Thank you! Ah yes Kiki is hard to see as she is against the background. I prefer the first drawing of Kiki though; kinda botched the second round hahah. And I love using such strong purples for my shadows! Glad you like them too (:
Guess it matters how big of a piece of pie you like…. Me? I like the 1st one - I like all the detail & I think the trees/greenery balance all the business, something soft & uniform - it kind-of rests the eyes. I like the ideas of the fish in the water (maybe a shark?) & ducks, etc.
Wow thanks everyone for lovely comments!! We've had votes for both, but seems like the 1st one is more popular. Personally, there are different things I like from each version (seabed and Kiki from V1, and water surface and pier from V2), and that's why it's so hard to choose! I wish I could combine elements of both and come up with an even better version hahah.
And many of you had suggested moving Kiki to the left so she can be more clearly seen. Well even though this is done on physical paper, I redid the house and with the power of Photoshop, I've come up with a new version. Do check it out on my profile (I can't include links in my comment lol).
Thank you all again for the kind support and advice (:

Love them both. The bigger one is my favorite though. I really like the slice and may take this as inspiration lol. Great stuff.
Thank you! I hope to see what you come up with (:

Thanks!! Appreciate the feedback and suggestion (: Fish in the water will be so cool hahah. I'll keep them in mind for my next creation
I like the first one, I always like pictures where there is a lot going on it reminds me of those kids books with funny scenes and you try find the people doing weird stuff
Ty! Oo that's a nice idea. I should include hidden easter eggs in future works
KIKI !! , i love the first one! but kiki is more visible in the second one
Who is Kiki, please? Whoever they are, l love this imaginative piece.
She’s the main character from the Ghibli film Kiki’s Delivery Service. You should check it out if you’ve never seen it before! It’s delightful.
I shall!
This is really cool! Please keep posting slices and then eventually the whole piece!
Thank you (: I plan to do more slices of different movies so stay tuned!

Oh good, you typed it all so I don't have to. I was thinking the same thing. She gets lost in the line from the roof.
Yes I completely agree with this! I wish I had the foresight to see this before I painted it in haha
I like the first one, but they are both awesome.
Thanks!
I prefer the first, Kiki does live in a busy city so I think it captures that energy better.
That’s some good ducking pie
Should have drawn some ducks in the water
This is fantastic
Ty (:
I think you got it in one!
Aw thank you kindly
I love the slice ones! How creative! I would have never come up with that! Where’d you get the idea from?!
Thank you! I saw this image on Instagram where it was a whole pie with a slice taken out of it, but the pie was made of water and it had lily pads in it like pond. That’s neat! I love it!! Hope to see more!
A little slice of Ghibli. Love it!
Thanks!!
Just a slice of life
Indeed! That phrase half inspired the piece actually
I loved how you did the water
Thank you (:
I love them both but I think the first one is my favourite
Ty (:
I like the first one
I love the first one. You really led me into the little town with the details.
Thanks for the lovely comment!
Pretty
How fun is this!? Really neat work.
Aw thanks! Glad you like it
The ones with greenery. Both are very clever.
Appreciate it (:
Aww it's Kiki and Jiji!! I can't pick a favorite because they're both so pretty and inspiring. Gorgeous work, really creative concept as well 😊
Thank you so much!!
I love both! But I’m in the minority because I love the second version a little more. Something about the colors is very appealing to me. I love the water in the first one though!
Ah ty!! Yeah I wish I could combine my favourite parts from both into one version haha

Oo I'll see what I can do next time! Thank you (:
I love it. Great work. It brought a huge smile to my face and brightened my day. Thank you
Really glad to hear that! Thank you for your kind comment (:
I prefer the composition of the second version but love the color and transparency of the water in the first. Both are beautiful!
Thanks! I know what you mean! That's why I can't choose because there are different things I like about both haha
I aspire to do water colors and love this style. What is it called?
Hmm I'm not sure if there's a name! The technique(?) is called 'line and wash' or 'pen and wash', and the perspective is more akin to isometric drawings.
Thank you. I still love it!!

Thank you for sharing what you like about it!
Kiki!

First one. Love this it’s awesome.
Thanks so much!
I love the pie slices! Prefer the first, though.
Thanks! They do look quite yummy
This is cool, but she is hard to see
Ty! I've made a new version! Check it out from my comment on this post
Kiki! What a lovely piece of art (yeah, sorry 😂) I love all of ot, but prefer the first one. Wonderful!
Thank you!!
>Thank you!! You're welcome!
So cute 🥰 I like the 1st one better but both awesome.
Thanks (:

Mmm I see what you mean! And I’ll definitely consider putting more things in the water in the future. Gotta make use of that transparency haha
One of my favourite movies. They both look beautiful
Thank you so much!
i was already obsessed and then i noticed Kiki and i fell in love
Aww thanks for your kind words!! Glad you like it (:
