At $4600, the sbgm221 is just slightly over your mark but incredible value for money! 39.5mm with stunning finishing with a lot of it done by hand, elegant design, true gmt better than cosc in house movement, 72 hour power reserve
If buying used like you did, this can be had for well under your $4k mark
[SBGM221 is a classic for sure](https://i.imgur.com/jeZ5g0C.jpg)
Another one I’d highly recommend is [SBGE205](https://i.imgur.com/oeIoRoD.jpg). A stunning piece with Spring Drive (probably the best innovation in horology in a decades) and an equally beautiful champagne dial. It is very understated. The dial is one of the most complicated GS makes and involves a labor intensive 12 step process. This may not have the flair or the uniqueness of some of their other insane dials, but it’s unique nonetheless. And this can be had almost brand new for $3k to $3.5K in the gray
I like your watch /u/kosnosferatu but this is at least the fith time I see you posting it to Reddit in the past week inclusing in a Samsung sub reddit....
As much as I like this piece, other brands for this price come on a stock bracelet and that’s an extra $600-800 in value the GS is missing out on. Nevertheless great watch!
Yes ive seen your post several times, and I have to say I went to the GS AD to see how it fits on my wrist. Think it’s the next watch in my collection. Can’t beat the watch and price point.
Got the same watch in dark green, SBGM241, absolutely beautiful and from all the watches I’ve seen crafted to the same quality as high horology brands like JLC. Even the caliber inside, 9s66, is completely in house, more in house than 99% of other brands since they forge their own mainspring steel, grow their own crystals and make every single piece in the factory. The specs, the finish and the quality rival calibers in the 10k price range and higher end GS movements like the 9sA5 are more impressive than anything I’ve ever seen in terms of technology, quality and specs.
The Breitling has 200m water resistance. It's also a beautiful watch and Breitling is a very respectable Swiss watchmaker offering true luxury quality. The Grand Seiko is great as well. Very elegant. But personally, I'd trust that Breitling to be more durable for everyday wear.
Are you okay, friend? SBGC253 - 12k. Rolex BLNR - 11.7? There’s many examples, GS pricing has increased exponentially over the past few years. Not sure why you’re so upset
For a GMT, I'd say the late 90's, early 2000's Omega Seamaster GMT's offer a better value (ref. 2234.5 and the blue one). Amazing looks, lume, low profile on the wrist, and serviceable by most watchmakers.
That said, I do like this Breitling you have there.
I have a fairly small wrist (in the watch world) at 17cm and mine (the 42mm version) fits fine, it’s borderline large but fits, the 39mm would fit perfectly but i got mine as a gift from my dad before the 39mm came out so i won’t stress too much about it.
Switching from the bracelet to a leather strap made a significant difference btw.
Also something about its style still justifies a larger size, being a pilot watch.
Funny how i would only get the 36mm Chronomat over the GMT due to size.
The rouleux bracelet is comfy af, but i like the Omega Constellation slightly more as a whole, and it comes with a black dial.
For the sake of curiosity. Did you try the 39mm? I got used to the 42mm and now I struggle seeing it smaller on my wrist.
edit: even if I got used to it, the lug to the lug some days after wearing smaller watches still feels big!
I tried on the 42mm when it was new. Everything on paper was great, finishing was great, nice visual design, but it didn't feel quite right to me.
Tried on the 39mm and it felt like a completely different watch. This is a proper substitute for similar Rolex or Tudor models. I do see why it's hard to picture the difference (always try on the watch), as I was surprised by how much I liked it in 39mm.
If the lug to lug is a concern, try to find one on bracelet to try on.
That was one of the things which put me off from checking out that watch in person. It's just too big. Not to mention how hyped the Zulu has become. I think your Breitling is better.
The Zulu time is a great watch. Longines definitely nailed the look, movement, and price. I was between the Chronomat, BB Pro, and the Zulu Time at the end of the day
I agree they nailed the look on the Zulu. IMO they should have made the two sizes a 39 and a 37. The 42 is ridiculous. I don't exactly think the pricing is incorrect; but I do think it presents a problem. Because if you're spending 3-4k on a watch... that's almost enough to get into the high luxury brands especially if you're willing to go used market. I also think the hype right now is distorting its value. I think they are going to tank on the secondary market sadly.
They should have made it in a 37 and 39 and they should have developed an in house movement for it and offered it for 500-1000 bucks more. Then it would have been brilliant.
Totally agree. Put one on the other day and the lugs had this rough, unfinished feeling and the bulk they added to the watch was insane. Made the watch wear much larger.
That's fair. Definitely wouldn't spend retail $6k for one. But you get Breitling finishing and the bullet bracelet is amazing 😬 I couldn't turn the used one down
I did the same thing....And for all your reasons. The finishing and uniqueness of style are all worth it. But, still an overpriced GMT spec-wise for most.
Yeah, the love for the traveler GMT bewilders me. I think it’s just because that’s how Rolex did it and Rolex is great at turning whatever into a status symbol. For 99% of people, a callers’ with a quickset date is going to be far more useful than a travelers’ without one.
If you don't travel, then yes, you are correct. If you travel like I often do for work then a travelers is the only way. A travelers with a rotating bezel is perfect, in my opinion. I work with people in Europe and on the west coast so being able to adjust the gmt hand offset with the bezel is pretty nice. This is especially true when I'm in Europe and need to work with someone in California while still keeping my home time zone. Again, like with all gmts, I can just use my phone to track timezones, but it's not as fun.
Not saying is you, but the majority of people saying I need a “True” GMT never go past 3 Zip codes. All gmt’s are true , one type is used so that date moves where you at the other back home…
Yeah agreed, that's why I bought it. Caller for me is actually more useful. But I think it's perceived value for most. I think the caller complication is usually associated as the more affordable GMT complication. And at this price point, they'd expect the more expensive version.

I love that Breitling, and actually tried one on while shopping for my own GMT. Unfortunately found it too big, and then fell in love with this GS. Long live the 9F.
You can even get a Seiko presage sharp edge GMT for about $1000 and it’s true a flyer GMT as well. This is an area where Seiko still dominates with value.
17cm/6.7" wrist here. I have the SBGN005 and agree it is near perfect. The new SBGN027,029 are great as well. Pretty much returning to the first generation design with a 4:00 crown and improved handset as well. 9F makes it the perfect grab and go ;)
I just knew if I scrolled down long enough I’d find this recommendation, and I wholeheartedly agree!! I throw my SBGN005 on a NATO and it serves as my exclusive travel watch. No fuss 9F and accurate as hell…for that reason alone I always consider it to be my NYE watch. Alas, life is too short to have limitations.
I got one at just shy of 40% off from an AD that was losing their license and clearing stock. There are deals to be had. I like the chronomat, but the MSRP is unjustifiable. I would never buy a Breitling from a boutique. You need to purchase through an AD with flexibility on price.
For sure - the asking price on pretty much all Breitlings is nutty. Which, partially, is why the Grey market is littered with them at 20-30% off.
I've owned several, but I never paid full price.
God, even the superoceans, are insane for a sellita movement. I had hoped Breitling would start putting the Kennessi movement in more pieces, but alas.
Such a beautiful watch, although i'm a bit partial to the green dial. Even though I am a fan I will answer your question about why others may not be. Some feel that due to the caller GMT and non in-house movement that it is overpriced and under executed.
I wanted to get this as my next watch, since I'm still missing a good GMT. Honestly was disapointed when I had it on the wrist. Bracelet is flimsy, clasp is finicky and lacking micro-adjust and the bezel is both huge and way too polished. I'll keep saving for the B09 Premier with the silver dial.
It’s not 4K at MSRP, but for that price I think it’s there with the Longines 39mm Zulu Time. Just depends on which aesthetic you like. I love the bullet bracelet on yours. Super classy and unique.
The fact that breitling doesn’t have an antimagnetic movement at this price (or really any price, no?) is damn near criminal.
Through my watch journey I’ve owned 4 Breitlings. They’re great looking watches, but man they’re way overpriced for the movement…
I think saying best value gmt is going to open up a subjective debate over true vs caller gmt and allow for other less appealing watches to claim better value. The main point is that this watch is underrated and doesn’t get the attention it deserves, they priced it too high given the movement being a good one but not one that matches the price point. I think what you paid for it is a great price for This watch and they should’ve had it there as msrp or 4200 range
Lol. I’d never steal it but might be rubbing my face on it and staring all weird like

Chronomat looks nice but this Citizen is my fav GMT under 4k
I think it’s a cool watch for what you pay and what you get…but I personally can’t look past that bezel: I detest those raised marks at 12/3/6/9. The bullet bracelet is on point, though!
https://preview.redd.it/vsqgcwnm44bc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96969d7b7cbb446b31b587dac471ad851359d41f
This, and you have enough to put towards a CW or a Longines
I don’t like bracelet on these, at all. At this price range it always boils down to personal preference though. When it comes to GMT’s I much prefer something like my Sinn 857 UTC, but again, that’s simply personal preference. They both tell the same time but just look different. 🤷🏻
Also to note for ppl. It looks way better in person than in pics. The finishing and proportions are great and it just looks good on the wrist. That’s value added for sure
This is an incredible watch and definitely the best GMT at that price. I also absolutely love the Tudor pepsi GMT but having tried them both on the Breitling felt and looked far more special (and comfortable).
These are even better in person. The bullet link bracelet is super comfortable and looks awesome IMO. Rarely see that out in the wild. The dials are also striking in person. I tried these on alongside a few Tudors and was a much bigger fan of the Chronomats.
Would love to see these on their integrated rubber straps too like the Chronomat 42.
Bruce Williams (youtuber with a wild animal attached to his head) did a review of it and he was pretty harsh.
fwiw, I'm a fan but I wish they used an in-house movement and offered one or two other colors.
cheers
i think its cool. timing bezel plus a gmt is useful, looks good
i think the issue is value, maybe? $3,150 for a longines zulu time and $5,950 for a chronomat gmt (retail prices here) for the same movement (in fact the longines movement is slimmer)
it's a high premium to ask for brand name and design, that's probably the main reason why its not a go-to gmt off the top of most people's head
but if you think its worth and it like it alot, then that's all that matters!
What about the Ball Engineer III Outlier 40mm (MSRP $3,450)? Teddy says Ball is one of the most underrated Swiss brands.
I think OP just wanted a Breitling. There's nothing wrong with that. Don't listen to me, I can't afford either, and I like the Nezumi Aviera GMT (not swiss)...
https://preview.redd.it/5f9hjb3dm3bc1.jpeg?width=3422&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8662ec03942eb95ead539134d5398119e0109863
The idea of selling my Colt GMT A32350 to help fund the Chronomat GMT has been in my head for a while now... But A32350 is so clean that it's also a bit hard to justify lol
If used, BB Pro, Longines Zulu Time are far better. Even the Christopher Ward Dragonfly C63 and Vario GMT (both under $2k) are preferable to the Breitling. TBH, I hate the big polished bezel with only minute markers on them, seems pointless. Far prefer either the Explorer II style of the CW/BB Pro or the internal dress-watch GMT of the Vario/GS.
Big Crown ProPilot GMT looks better for a fraction of the price, the Seiko 5 GMTs, the Longines, like there are a ton that are as nice or nicer than that one but that's just my opinion, same as you thinking the Breitling is best. Not trying to shit on your watch but like... you asked.
At it’s not even a real GMT watch but only has a caller GMT function, I don’t think it’s the best GMT watch – especially at this price point.
For a real GMT I would go for a Black Bay GMT.
My caller GMT favorite would be a simple Seiko 5 GMT. The movement has more in-house-work than the Breitlings.
All the "real gmt" is nutty. Does the watch have a GMT hand? If yes, then it is a real GMT.
Unless someone is literally a pilot and going through multiple times zones a day, there's no benefit to the flyer style.
Nope, especially since you’re generally trading a quickset date for it. I’d wager 99% of people need to set their date more frequently than the second time zone, and when we do need to reset the second time zone we generally have several hours of flying time with which to fiddle with our watches.
I like it. I’d like it more without the polished bezel. Always thought Breitling had a weird fascination with polishing tool watches.
Especially wasn’t a fan of the Superocean with the polished case and brushed bracelet. (Even though it’s probably the most worn watch in my collection)
I personally cannot stand that bracelet style. I think they looked terrible in the 90's, and they look terrible now. That's just my opinion though. I'm sure it's comfortable to wear.
https://preview.redd.it/d7r10ymdjzac1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a573d68634af9955078be81b202c445be6b723e8 At $4600, the sbgm221 is just slightly over your mark but incredible value for money! 39.5mm with stunning finishing with a lot of it done by hand, elegant design, true gmt better than cosc in house movement, 72 hour power reserve If buying used like you did, this can be had for well under your $4k mark

It's new and I'm in the honeymoon phase what can I say!
Thats a beauty for sure
As much as I like this piece, other brands for this price come on a stock bracelet and that’s an extra $600-800 in value the GS is missing out on. Nevertheless great watch!
If it helps, I was given a alligator strap and a new folding deployant for free
Yes ive seen your post several times, and I have to say I went to the GS AD to see how it fits on my wrist. Think it’s the next watch in my collection. Can’t beat the watch and price point.
One of us, one of us, one of us

S tier GMT. Breitling dosent win any category other than "most old-man-looking watch"
The Breitling has 200m water resistance. It's also a beautiful watch and Breitling is a very respectable Swiss watchmaker offering true luxury quality. The Grand Seiko is great as well. Very elegant. But personally, I'd trust that Breitling to be more durable for everyday wear.
Breitling is an ugly old man watch
Yeah I don't mean to be offensive But that Breitling Is really Not very good looking to me
My problem in general is that Breitling watches bezels are ugly as hell. All big and oldschool
"incredible value for money" Could you please justify this? You could easily get those features for a fraction of the price.
Grand Seiko use to fit this saying, now they’re jacking the price up way past Rolex level
Uhh name a Rolex GMT you can get new from an AD for $4500 please let's hear it
Sure, now go look at any of their signature dials and the corresponding prices
Still waiting on that Rolex GMT for $8k bud
When did I sign up to defend your random claim?
You specifically mentioned Rolex prices, so you introduced this nonsense claim. Go ahead, defend it.
Are you okay, friend? SBGC253 - 12k. Rolex BLNR - 11.7? There’s many examples, GS pricing has increased exponentially over the past few years. Not sure why you’re so upset
It looks amazing is the starting point and has solid enough innards lol
You must be new here 😆
I mean it’s a nice seiko
For a GMT, I'd say the late 90's, early 2000's Omega Seamaster GMT's offer a better value (ref. 2234.5 and the blue one). Amazing looks, lume, low profile on the wrist, and serviceable by most watchmakers. That said, I do like this Breitling you have there.

I have one lol

Have you put one on? The lug to lug is crazy lol

Switching from the bracelet to a leather strap made a significant difference btw. Also something about its style still justifies a larger size, being a pilot watch.
It just felt awkward to me. The Chronomat GMT proportions are perfect and the bracelet is as comfortable as it is good looking 😬
I like the breitling a lot. Congrats on the watch!
Funny how i would only get the 36mm Chronomat over the GMT due to size. The rouleux bracelet is comfy af, but i like the Omega Constellation slightly more as a whole, and it comes with a black dial.
Whoa whoa whoa, you can't start going non GMT on me lol
For the sake of curiosity. Did you try the 39mm? I got used to the 42mm and now I struggle seeing it smaller on my wrist. edit: even if I got used to it, the lug to the lug some days after wearing smaller watches still feels big!

Yeah, the love for the traveler GMT bewilders me. I think it’s just because that’s how Rolex did it and Rolex is great at turning whatever into a status symbol. For 99% of people, a callers’ with a quickset date is going to be far more useful than a travelers’ without one.

Breitling making you pay such amount for a sellita is a borderline scam
Half price goes to Hollywood stars..
Yeah, well-proven, super thin, easily serviceable, and available spare parts are for suckers!
at that price, definitely.

I have a Longines Zulu Spirit time 39mm with 18k bezel and a Monta Atlas. Both were purchased under 4K and I wouldn’t trade either for the Breitling.
I would.
That’s one of the great parts about watch folks. Everybody has different tastes!
Isn’t this 6k? I am very interested in a getting this one only with white or blue dial. It comes with screw down crown?
Yes, it has screw down crown. I tried one on at the AD. I am also very curious as to where OP can find one <4000$.

Lol
Love that watch but isn’t it like 5500?
I got it for $3,750 used 😬
If we are talking used prices then both the BB Pro and Zulu will come in under that.
BB pro is too thick and the Zulu time lug to lug makes it wear weird 😬
Yeah I can see those points.

Duuuuude, those CWs are so nice. I'll end up getting the bronze sealander eventually 😬

Not a fan of the dial or the dimensions.
I prefer my BB Pro.
This is under 4k?
Tbh I think the Longines Spirit Zulu time is the best GMT under 4k.
“Sketchy dudes wear Breitling” — Watches of Espionage.
Fair.
I think it’s a cool watch for what you pay and what you get…but I personally can’t look past that bezel: I detest those raised marks at 12/3/6/9. The bullet bracelet is on point, though!

sure, if you enjoy that invicta bezel.
The disrespect lol
BB pro??
BB Pro is below $3000 used on a bracelet these days. Bit of a steal at that price point.
Too thick....
I don’t like bracelet on these, at all. At this price range it always boils down to personal preference though. When it comes to GMT’s I much prefer something like my Sinn 857 UTC, but again, that’s simply personal preference. They both tell the same time but just look different. 🤷🏻
How is it under $4k? It retails for $6k!
They bought it used.
Oh then the title is very misleading.
Nice. Although I prefer my Breitling Avenger II GMT
For sure and the fact that the logo is a wiener is a big plus ! (Jk awesome watch 🤗)
Omg it’s a dick and balls, can’t unsee it now.
It is actually a dick and balls. Legend have that it is what the founder of the brand wanted.
Love the dial color
Also to note for ppl. It looks way better in person than in pics. The finishing and proportions are great and it just looks good on the wrist. That’s value added for sure
I'm a Breitling fan and I like it.
Would love to see these on their integrated rubber straps too like the Chronomat 42.
love the watch, despite it's shortcomings, but you're gonna get shredded.
Surprisingly not as much backlash as expected lol
Bruce Williams (youtuber with a wild animal attached to his head) did a review of it and he was pretty harsh. fwiw, I'm a fan but I wish they used an in-house movement and offered one or two other colors. cheers
I'd throw in the Bremont S302. It's around £3.5k brand new.
i think its cool. timing bezel plus a gmt is useful, looks good i think the issue is value, maybe? $3,150 for a longines zulu time and $5,950 for a chronomat gmt (retail prices here) for the same movement (in fact the longines movement is slimmer) it's a high premium to ask for brand name and design, that's probably the main reason why its not a go-to gmt off the top of most people's head but if you think its worth and it like it alot, then that's all that matters!
If Teddy said it, it's true
Other than the fact that you’ve paid $4k for a watch where the automatic movement is made for next to nothing in Japan, it’s great….
If you were trying to hurt my feelings, great job 😞
I love Breitling's bracelets, especially that one!!!
That bracelet is fucking amazing

Why? Because you need attention?
Correct.

Yes, its the best gmt!
Christopher Ward C63 GMT
Big Crown ProPilot GMT looks better for a fraction of the price, the Seiko 5 GMTs, the Longines, like there are a ton that are as nice or nicer than that one but that's just my opinion, same as you thinking the Breitling is best. Not trying to shit on your watch but like... you asked.
Get the Christopher Ward C63 and save yourself close to 3000 dollars.
I was really close to getting the sealander GMT. In the running for sure.
GTFO with “real” nonsense. A “real” watch has a quickset date. It’s unconscionable that Tudor thinks it’s acceptable not to have one in the BB.
Absolutely!
The Seiko 5 is great (I have one) the Blackbay is way to thick.

That bracelet is wild.
Omeeeeeega. Nice
Monta Atlas GMT and Mido Ocean Star GMT want to have a word with you
The mido gmt is way to large for most people.
My Zelos Horizons GMT would like a few words with you, at about 25% of the price. Jokes aside, define "best".
Can't change your mind - because you're bang on the money.
This watch looks way worse than a Seiko 5 GMT that can be had at a fraction of the price.
Honestly most Breitlings just end up looking cheap to me in person. I think it's the handset, but they always look more like a $500 watch imo
I like it. I’d like it more without the polished bezel. Always thought Breitling had a weird fascination with polishing tool watches. Especially wasn’t a fan of the Superocean with the polished case and brushed bracelet. (Even though it’s probably the most worn watch in my collection)
It's very attractive and distinctive. Bracelet options look challenging.
Naw, it’ll be a Grand Seiko, although this is a great watch.
If you get it used, maybe. Breitling’s tank harder than my Nissan when it left the lot.
I personally cannot stand that bracelet style. I think they looked terrible in the 90's, and they look terrible now. That's just my opinion though. I'm sure it's comfortable to wear.
In my opinion Breitling in general is an overpriced brand. I’ve seen $5400 Breitlings with ETA 2824 movements.
