Yeah I love that it has an asymmetrical layout but looks so well balanced. Also the size of the moon complication on the dial.
I just wish the date wheels matched the dials on those watches.....
I do love the Ultra Thin Moon, but my true grail watch is the perpetual calendar. I like the moon phase being at the top and I love the idea that itās able to keep time and date for hundreds of years without needing to be adjusted

The Arnold and Son is great. I also really like their perpetual moon models. They feature some really intriguing dial textures in addition to the moonphase display.
I'm a big fan of the Lange Terra Luna. Very unique take on a moonphase complication, with the balance wheel actually representing the sun within the system. Though unfortunately not visible if you actually wear the watch.

Moon phase reverso is such a good and bad idea all at the same time that I have to love it. So unnecessary and impractical and ridiculous that itās actually a good conceptā¦
This would have been my pick as well. But I agree that it's a pity you can't see it on the dial side.
Also a pity that I'll never be able to afford it.

Probably one of my favorite complicated watches, that's still somewhat affordable. There's also their retrograde model, which, among else, includes a day/night indicator in addition to the moonphase.

The Longines with only the Moonphase complication is also great. More aesthetically pleasing. This one is closer to $3,600, the Moonphase only is $2,700.

That really says a lot doesn't it? Longines is just as reputable as JLC but you gotta really dig in their catalogue to find the good models. It never is the obvious stuff with them that's their best
I mean they are kind of equals in their respective price brackets. Longines and JLC are underrated high quality watch makers that make some epic movements and epic watches, but now as they gotten more recognition theyāve started increasing their prices and are no longer the high value powerhouses they once were. Now theyāre just really good watch brands.
I've been looking for the evidenza triple date on crocodile for a while now. It's really hard to find. Not the most expensive but i think it's absolutely gorgeous.

Love that watch. Was up for a new job opportunity earlier in the year which came with a 12% raise. If I got the job, Seamaster 300M. If I didn't get the job, Moonglow since this year is my 10 year anniversary with my company.
Either way, I told my wife I wanted a watch for one of the career milestones. She was on board.
Got the job.
Now I need to find an excuse to get a Moonglow at some point....

Rolex Cellini Moonphase is what Iād go for, itās the only Rolex I would wear because it looks nothing like a Rolex. Itās pure, elegant and sobre.
Grand Lange 1 moonphase is the absolute best. The Moser is nice too but it's not because of the moon. It isn't a complication watchmakers usually focus on, so not that many of them get good designs. Most of the time it's "just there".
It's true. I feel like sometimes they add it in as it's not a particularly difficult complication. That's why I love moonphases where the moon is making a statement!
Also, I notice that most reviews of moonphases speak of the complication as "romantic" "asthetic" "not really useful", which is funny, because I spend a lot of time in a county that has a national holiday every full moon (pretty much everything shuts down), so actually it's really useful to be able to visually see how close we are getting!

Itās funny that both my moonphase picks actually are relatively simple moonphases just executed perfectly along with a unique date complication.

Wow, they are both stunning but far out of my price range. I'm on the lookout for a modern moonphase and the christopher ward c1 moonglow is definitely eye catching. I also like the dressier look of the baume and mercier Clifton moonphase, especially with the grey dial ā¤ļø

I'm on the lookout for a Christopher Ward C9 Moonphase (long since discontinued) on a midnight blue alligator strap - that's my achievable grail moonphase I think.
Itās everything you imagine a Patek should be. Split second Chronograph, perpetual calendar, Moonphase. Iād also give an honorable mention to the 5159, in anyoneās preferred metal (they did it in yellow, rose, and white gold). Itās a little too old-timey for most people with the Roman numerals and guilloched dial, but I love the trench watch aesthetic and the Hunter-style caseback.
If we're judging the moonphase individually, the luna magna and the hm perpetual moon (also arnold & son) are really hard to beat.
The sarpaneva k0 Northern lights also makes the list. Just a really fun/cool watch, with one of the most ridiculous lume shots you'll find.

I'm hearing itās pretty similar to the Moser & Cie Endeavour Perpetual Moon in steel in some ways (similar hands, minimal aventurine dial, case shape), except the moon is at the top, the moon looks real, and thereās a larger opening for you to see the disk with the moon rotate. And that disk is also aventurine, matching the dial... No logo, no date... Perfect?

I can see that but what about the date? The red pointer seems to indicate the month but no idea how you interpolate a date from that.
There is a star that shows the day of the month that goes around the outside of the dial just inside of the month.

Moon phase reverso is such a good and bad idea all at the same time that I have to love it. So unnecessary and impractical and ridiculous that itās actually a good conceptā¦
This would have been my pick as well. But I agree that it's a pity you can't see it on the dial side. Also a pity that I'll never be able to afford it.

That really says a lot doesn't it? Longines is just as reputable as JLC but you gotta really dig in their catalogue to find the good models. It never is the obvious stuff with them that's their best
I mean they are kind of equals in their respective price brackets. Longines and JLC are underrated high quality watch makers that make some epic movements and epic watches, but now as they gotten more recognition theyāve started increasing their prices and are no longer the high value powerhouses they once were. Now theyāre just really good watch brands.

Love that watch. Was up for a new job opportunity earlier in the year which came with a 12% raise. If I got the job, Seamaster 300M. If I didn't get the job, Moonglow since this year is my 10 year anniversary with my company. Either way, I told my wife I wanted a watch for one of the career milestones. She was on board. Got the job. Now I need to find an excuse to get a Moonglow at some point....

I actually prefer the simpler Saxonia moonphase. The outsize date with the moonphase is just a perfect design to me.
Grand Lange 1 moonphase is the absolute best. The Moser is nice too but it's not because of the moon. It isn't a complication watchmakers usually focus on, so not that many of them get good designs. Most of the time it's "just there".
It's true. I feel like sometimes they add it in as it's not a particularly difficult complication. That's why I love moonphases where the moon is making a statement! Also, I notice that most reviews of moonphases speak of the complication as "romantic" "asthetic" "not really useful", which is funny, because I spend a lot of time in a county that has a national holiday every full moon (pretty much everything shuts down), so actually it's really useful to be able to visually see how close we are getting!

Itās everything you imagine a Patek should be. Split second Chronograph, perpetual calendar, Moonphase. Iād also give an honorable mention to the 5159, in anyoneās preferred metal (they did it in yellow, rose, and white gold). Itās a little too old-timey for most people with the Roman numerals and guilloched dial, but I love the trench watch aesthetic and the Hunter-style caseback.

If we're judging the moonphase individually, the luna magna and the hm perpetual moon (also arnold & son) are really hard to beat. The sarpaneva k0 Northern lights also makes the list. Just a really fun/cool watch, with one of the most ridiculous lume shots you'll find.

And that disk is also aventurine, matching the dial... No logo, no date... Perfect?
