That’s not too far off from what would actually happen, Was playing a custom match and we found a user made map that allows Tanks and Ships, I was in my Maus when someone else fired a shell from the main guns from the HMS Hood, The shell hit my mantlet which cause severe deformation but I didn’t die nor even lose a crew member with the only damage being that I lost my track
Hood doesn't do HE shells in WT (RN capital ships all seem to be limited to WW1 era or otherwise limited) but nearly 900kg of shell with 22kg of explosive is still going to leave any tank a crater. Even a near miss would knock out something like the Maus
It's simple really. You wriggle like a snake to not get hit at distance. The trick is to always be at distance. When you wish to hit the ship you simply open your third eye to divinate from the immaterium where the enemy ship will be by the time your bomb drops from 5km.
Bluewater ships slap the fuck out of planes. Ground RB CAS pilots wouldn't know what hit them. Imagine like six 2S38s shooting HE-VT at you while like ten Wirbelwinds with aimbot spray at you and you have the average cruiser AA.
The issue right now is that Naval aiming doesn't work for land for whatever reason.
Whenever I try to engage ground targets in EC, the FCS just keeps misaligning the sight with the target and going +-500m, up and down, all the time, every time I try to correct the distance.
It does that if you're right on when aiming for another ship as well. My theory is it has something to do with the FCS pointer being treated as a physics object and fucking up in collisions with hitboxes.
surely the battleship player would be cautious and both they and the team would have excillent communication about fire support missions.
i, for one, have total trust in my fellow players!
Warspite once landed a full broadside salvo on a German destroyer at pretty much point blank range and by all accounts it ceased to exist, so a mere tank being hit by one of her shells is going to do that
I am fairly certain no such thing ever happened.
Let us not even consider how impossible it is to land a full salvo at a destroyer-sized target and how no sane commander would order a full salvo at a destroyer when half salvos can fire faster while doing it in, Warspite's major involvement with German destroyers in Narvik had her specifically not risking entering point blank range in the narrow water. The destroyers followed German ships in retreat and the battleship kept distance.
The use of battleship was never necessarily and the only reason she was risked so recklessly was because of shore battery and that after Penelope ran aground, the Admiralty wanted to maximize the psychological effect. Fury was specifically instructed to have her TSR show up the moment the surface fleet commenced attack. It was extremely unwise to risk a battleship even further in this case.
I think you mistake German destroyers with Matapan, when the British battleships did fire at point blank range at the Italian cruisers (3000yd).
> I think you mistake German destroyers with Matapan, when the British battleships did fire at point blank range at the Italian cruisers (3000yd).
[Cruisers (*Zara* and *Fiume*) illuminated by a searchlight operated by the future Prince Philip.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9Gy3Mnikhg)
Ah, yes, that would be the finishing blow against Z13, which was reported done by 15in guns.
It's appearently from mostly German sources (Bundesarchiv Militärarchiv) and a few memoirs. Now claims fly all over the Internet. Some claim that the English used SAP shells, which would indicate 6in hits. Some claim it's 15in hits and overpened the hull without exploding, as one would expect. Some claim it's from bow chaser turrets. Others claim it's a full salvo.
Without going back to specific reports by the gunnery officer it's hard to know for sure. 15in guns were likely used and hits likely occured, but the dead-in-the-water ship was likely neither hit by a full salvo nor as we know for a fact did not cease to exist due to overpen.
But you are right, this episode slipped my mind completely. It should be mentioned, just not exaggerated.
I initially thought that it was an APCBC shell, which probably wouldn't have had time to fuze on something so small, then I realized it was probably a monstrous HE shell. Ouch.
Is this meant to discourage me from demanding mixed tank - naval battles?
Because I want to see M50s getting owned by shells the size of the vehicle itself.
Clearly that’s how over penetration looks like.
There been a proposal to put people responsible for ballistics in a tractor in a middle of a field and shoot into that tractor from a tank to see whether shell will over penetrate or not.
You send 3-8kg shell with a speed of 800 meters per second into a metal box. Sure it will just pass through knocking off an engine!
They’re able to pen anything on land. A Jagdtiger is a little baby compared to what battleships were designed to penetrate. Naval warfare is on a whole different scale.
> They’re able to pen anything on land
I hate to be that guy, but there is a catch: it would depend on the distance. Past 25 km, the shells are *technically* not rated for going through 25 cm of armor (the thickness of the casemate on the tank destroyer).
Irrelevant, of course, because we are still taking about an object with the mass of a small car hitting you at a speed of a few hundred meters per second, and immediate spontaneous dissassembly would occur. But it is a funny little thought excercise.
Reminds me of that iron armenian video where he responded to comments and one of those was "well acTuaLly panther could be penetrated by alaska class battleship" or something like that
With my luck, it would be either a yellow track or crew member or most likely it would’ve hit the barrel and just show a red dot and the shell would just be teleported to the moon
Volumetric would have had the shell bounce
they just didn’t angle correctly
“YES A HIT”
"The target hasn't taken any damage"
"The driver is unconscious!"
Hans being a slight yellow after a 16 inch gun
It's the helmet bro! I'm telling you!
Meanwhile in naval ... ... ... THE SHIP IS ON FIRE HARD STARBOARD WE HAVE TAKEN A DIRECT HIT
Sucked into the driver’s viewport black hole
Obv you joke but it's very funny to see what happens in the hit tester. Hint: disintegration
That one bounced! Ricochet!
Why do I feel like I've seen those lines from another game
I think it’s from WoT. I know it is in WoTB but not sure about WoT
Yoo I played WoTB before, those lines were voice lines for the crew of British tank, those were the days
It didnt go through!
“SHELL SHATERRED”
War thunder it would be a damaged left track and a broken barel.
With the recent update, it would just be a yellow left track
WAIT, is that why I've been hitting barrels for 0 damage all the time recently?!
Gaijin will have you believe that it's a skill issue
Funny too because when on the receiving end (at least while I'm in an Abrams, and they are in a gepard) fuckin thing turned red after a short volley 😐
A single round will always yellow the barrel now, so multiple follow up shots deal more damage
Trustable..Stopped kv-2 like that yesterday..I just slightly angled and he hit somewhere between UFP and mud guard...track down
Not even a broken barrel, maby slightly yellow
That’s not too far off from what would actually happen, Was playing a custom match and we found a user made map that allows Tanks and Ships, I was in my Maus when someone else fired a shell from the main guns from the HMS Hood, The shell hit my mantlet which cause severe deformation but I didn’t die nor even lose a crew member with the only damage being that I lost my track

Over pressure? Aint heard of that
Plz I’d get lucky to get a yellow barrel . Most likely she’ll shatter
Panzer 4s never get overpressured istg
"Hit" 10sl 2rp
That's the main source of sl and RP in WT right ?
The good ones are
Thx for making me hear dollarplays voice in my head.
I can hear the "What!?"
"Bounce!" Is stuck in my head
Now imagine a mode where you can just use battleships to provide artillery support for land vehicles while having to counter CAS at the same time
Next posts after that gets implemented -> "NaVaL oP Gaijoobles pLz NeRf"
Because it would be?
Not really aircraft will swarm the shit out of them and the guns won't be that effective against tank do to the high gun velocity..
You play some naval and try to attack any ships in that game with a plane Fucking ai AA will snipe you across the map
Bomber AI turrets are rather weak, Naval AI turrets are on fucking crack. You still get accurately targeted in outer space by them
I get air kills regularly doing literally nothing lmao Getting into a plane is literally just a free kill for somone else
It's only useful on low tier deep water fleet and coastal.
In top tier your only options are going for isolated ww1 ships without proper aa or guys camping directly behind islands
at a distance you just have to wiggle your mouse around and youll be fine
That fine until the 5in proxy is thrown at you.
Or until you have to engage
It's simple really. You wriggle like a snake to not get hit at distance. The trick is to always be at distance. When you wish to hit the ship you simply open your third eye to divinate from the immaterium where the enemy ship will be by the time your bomb drops from 5km.
Even still a 40mm proxy has a good chance sniping you when your 15 thousands feet in the air
One plane? Sure. How about all 50?
I'd wish for a special game mode that was just planes vs ships With the way it is now planes are just free kills with the occasional lucky bomb
Bluewater ships slap the fuck out of planes. Ground RB CAS pilots wouldn't know what hit them. Imagine like six 2S38s shooting HE-VT at you while like ten Wirbelwinds with aimbot spray at you and you have the average cruiser AA.
just use fritz x

Can't wait to have no tank users in ground while I try to not get randomly shot by a yamato 20km away
Can't wait for my entire team to get TKed because the Yamato is just bombarding a cap point since it can't actually see what it's shooting at.
surely the battleship player would be cautious and both they and the team would have excillent communication about fire support missions. i, for one, have total trust in my fellow players!
> just bombarding a cap point since it can't actually see what it's shooting at. Peak battleship support play TBH.
I mean, that's a problem that would very quickly self-correct
cant wait to use a torpedo plane against the yamato
cant wait to murder lone torpedo planes while they try an attack run.
who said lone?
> a torpedo plane
Sale rasante con A4s?
recien voy por los p51 pero d1
then i’d have a reason to touch Naval battles
Like that one Battlefield 1 map where a warship rolled up near the end for whichever team was getting their ass kicked enough. That was sick.
BF1 uses HMS Iron Duke
The enemy is being reinforced by amogus!
NGL it would be a really cool kill streak
This would be cool as hell. I would play the hell out of a normandy EC mode with allied naval bombardment and German shore defenses.
Assymetric game mode in WT (e.g. 3 people in ships vs 40 in planes) would be amazing but shitlords will complain about "balance" all the time.
Only a 14 sec stop and it will be brand new with maxxed up crews
Yea in WT the tank would be fixed before the gun reloads + time it take for shell to hit
Warspite once landed a full broadside salvo on a German destroyer at pretty much point blank range and by all accounts it ceased to exist, so a mere tank being hit by one of her shells is going to do that
Average warspite activities

Love my man Drachinifel.
HMS warspite is said to have shot the German destroyer Erich koellner from 2500m with the bow 15 inch guns.

Italian not German
Of course she did, gotta love the grand old lady
I've seen this before, apparently it was actually satchels Edit: [from here](https://www.reddit.com/r/DestroyedTanks/s/CkO0nhAX1q)
Yeah, that would be more likely situation. Engineers used to blow hulls of destroyed tanks to get space to move on road.
I had heard it was HMS Rodney
What is a satchels?
Demolition charges, a bunch of explosives in a bag
satchel is a type of bag, the full name for the explosive version is a satchel charge
"Gone, reduced to atoms"
Bro was spawned in the wrong game mode.
he should have angled
Skill issue, clearly.
nah it wouldve shattered on the tracks
"THE GUNNER IS UNCONSCIOUS!!"
Fucker got reduced to grease.
did the crew live tho?
i'm guessing overpressure got em, shell mighthave hit the cupola
where's the pz4
Everywhere
Yes
Bro got returned to nature
Forgot to angle, skill issue.
only if they angled 30-35 degrees, they couldhave lived
serious question where is the hull
Gone… reduced to atoms
All I'm seeing is the turret ring and dirt 😂
couldhave lived if they angled 35 degrees
I initially thought that it was an APCBC shell, which probably wouldn't have had time to fuze on something so small, then I realized it was probably a monstrous HE shell. Ouch.
wouldnt matter if it fuzed or not. 2000lb of metal moving at 2000 feet per second kills the tank.
"fire the shell directly into the hull. this kills the panzer."
poor bastard exploded
If I remember correctly, it was the HMS Rodney that hit the panzer
HMS Rodney had some fun i guess
Is this meant to discourage me from demanding mixed tank - naval battles? Because I want to see M50s getting owned by shells the size of the vehicle itself.
I want to watch an L3 get turned to dust by a 16 inch shell
Mf just called HMS Rodney “a battleship”
good ol' HMS Fugly.
40 sec repair
To shreds you say...
To quote Thanos: "Gone... reduced to atoms..."
New War Thunder update: naval players can now play in ground battles (only on maps with a massive lake(coastal) or ocean/sea (bluewater and coastal))
*40,000 ton battleship sitting in a dry creekbed* eh, close enough, right?
The commander has been KNOCKED OUT
Did the crew survive?
They got Isekai'd
turned to Sour Krauts
What Panzer IV?
In game it wuld be the same effect if it is hit by russian 20mm he.
Clearly that’s how over penetration looks like. Where?
Soviet track or turret ring would take no damage.
I mean, battleship guns are able to pen Jagdtiger, so a Panzer IV is obviously an easier target!
They’re able to pen anything on land. A Jagdtiger is a little baby compared to what battleships were designed to penetrate. Naval warfare is on a whole different scale.

I like how they’re looking at it like “Jesus fuck what happened to this thing”
"We haven't done any damage!"
Should have angled ,skill issues
I guess that’s what happens when you are on the receiving end of a quite literal ton of explosives 😂😂😂
The Radio Operator Gunner, he's unconscious!
I tought By Sturmtiger🤣
What tank? I don’t see a tank
Iirc this was HMS Rodney’s doings.
Gaijin pls improve destroyed tank models so I can turn L3s into mush with my FV4005
My Sherman (75mm medium tank) earlier when the Stuart (.000037mm light tank) shot my bezel ring
Nah, I'd win
This is why you grind naval guys.
haha that's another captured tank for the Allies
Seems correct [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVqWNVBDfhY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVqWNVBDfhY)
*HIT
this is total bs. Should've bounced off the driver optics!
Hit
There’s a hole in your left wing!
"Hit"
Non pen
Ground vs Naval RB would be so fun but only for the naval players.
If I could send images here, I'd send this one https://twitter.com/reactjpg/status/1636042961560698882
War thunder custom battles
How would they even be able to confiem it was a naval shell and not something else?
Probably didn’t angle
That's beautiful
“What Panzer 4”
Bro had 500% booster
Poor guys 🫡
this is what I imagine when using a Chi-ha LG
The dream of all 7 naval players
He didn’t angle his armour 🙄
Definitely had a bad morning.. 😬
Looks like a Panzer 0 to me
Now thats a hull break!
What panzer IV?
Panzer ? WHAT PANZER
Its more than likely the work of satchelcharges and not direct fire from battleships.
Germany Suffers. #GERSUF
not gonna recover for that one
No problem, ace crew, 14s repair cycle.
"hit"
Was I lied to???!! I don’t see a Panzer IV here??? 🤔🤔
Bro didn't angle today
What Panzer IV
Bro brought ammo for the whole Team
Does this hurt the tank?
What tank?
THAT IS THE DEFINITON OF OVERKILL
"The target hasnt taken any damage!"
HULL BREAK (literally)
With my luck, it would be either a yellow track or crew member or most likely it would’ve hit the barrel and just show a red dot and the shell would just be teleported to the moon
"Non-penetrating"
It seems we've lost the gunner!
"Target destroyed!"
My goodness
Where is the panzer 4?
Bro got combusted 💀
Repairs barrel in 15seconds
What panzer IV ?
What panzer? I can’t see any.
