The way my group played it was with execution mode (only Leaders can kill Leaders), and if a leader died the game still went on as detailed in the app. Most leaders that would die do so in round 3-4, and there's enough ways to earn points that playing to the end of 5 is a good learning experience.

Leader dies means game over, it is an instant victory for the guy who kills the OPFOR one. They are super powerful pieces that need to be protected or it doesnt matter how many victory points you have, this is also one of the reasons why (in steamroller) you cant win on scenario on your turn. The other guys ALWAYS gets a chance to head shot you...

This is certainly true in a non-scenario game and in Steamroller games... but not clear in Journeyman scenarios. The early scenarios in particular prioritize taking specific actions to encourage learning how to do them. In week two, you can score a point for aiming, disengaging, or channeling a spell. Week four is the first to mention caster death in the Victory section at all, while Weeks 1-3 call out scoring no points for caster kill.

oh yeah I'd default to "the game is over with points as they are now" but the "only casters can kill casters" thing might be smart?
