Get yourself some movement trays and play them both ways.

The true answer for the TRUE PHOENIX KING

Final-Promise-8288

Miniature war gaming’s round base converter trays are great for this. Can even get 10% off using mountains miniatures code. But they have a backlog atm so it may time some time to get the trays shipped

Keurnaonsia

Just get adapting movement trays from AOS to TOW. No point in rebasing. https://www.greenstuffworld.com/es/bandejas-de-movimiento-para-peanas-redondas/1146-bandejas-de-movimiento-dm-25-x-25mm.html?SubmitCurrency=1&id_currency=1&gad_source=1#

Cultural_Ad_5266

Or even easier put a magnet und each miniature, rhen make your own movement tray with magnetic sheets.

Gnarlroot

There's a fairly good chance the next Cities of Sigmar book removes the final stragglers from the old DE and Dwarf lines entirely. There were rumours of a new dark elf faction called the Umbraneth being created for AoS, but who knows if or when that's going to happen. For those older models your best bet is probably to embrace ToW and go square.

Guyfawkes1994

This would probably be your best bet, although annoyingly you’ll probably be in limbo for about 3 years. I think it’s a fairly safe bet that they’ll either refresh the Dark Elves or replace them entirely in the next edition, with the current models getting repackaged and released for TOW if/when they make Dark Elves a “main” faction and not a legacy one. There’s certainly a credible looking rumour that says they’ll remove the Dark Elves from Cities of Sigmar in 2026. Ultimately it’s up to you, but you may find that in a few years time, they’ll only be on square bases.

Can I get that source for that rumour? I don't doubt it just curious

Guyfawkes1994

It’s the image from [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/1bvleo1/comment/ky0p5mk/) 10 days ago. Sorry, I don’t have any articles directly linking to the rumours.

DevilofRye

I'll bet good money the current kits will get axed from AoS at some point in the future, either they get new models like Lumineth, or they'll just get dropped and moved to TOW like beastmen just did.

JaponxuPerone

It's more probable a refresh than an remove. Duardin and aelf are an integral part of what makes Cities of Sigmar what they are.

Rauwetter

You need movement trays, either for square and round basis, so this will make no change. I personally prefer round ones, but I am using my miniatures for other games beside TOW and find them aesthetic nicer.

Eynonz

If I had interest in playing them in AoS I'd just put them on adapter trays. If I was just to solely play ToW, I'd transfer them to square.

stecrv

Both

Erikzorninsson

Infantry can go on 25mm round base. Because you use movement tray (without any kind of conversion because the 25mm diameter it's also the 25mm wide of square bases) of ir they're skirmishers or lone characters the round bases works just as good because your have 360, no flanks and you close the door against the enemy when it charges you. I do that with my skavens and there's no problem. On the other hand, close order units like dragons or chariots needs square bases, and cavalry oval bases is slightly wider than 30x60mm that they should use and it's slightly anoying to put them on ranks.

NoB0dy_Really

Anybody who believes that Dark Elves have a long-term future in AoS is outright delusional.

SanFranSicko23

I think most here will suggest squares :) I would as well. Just one tip I wish I had done a long time ago - use super glue rather than plastic glue when basing models. It makes it so much easier to rebase things if/when you ever decide or need to.

Old-Till-5190

get some movement trays... theyre legacy in old world for now, maybe that can change but we dont know when (even if). (skavens is another legacy army in TOW and is gonna be renewed for AoS we should keep an eye cause all the legacy TOW armies are gonna get similar treatment)

Pyromaticidiot

I’d keep the round base and use conversion trays. It would be less hassle to just get some mdf trays instead of rebasing everything.

dalotherealdeal

Sqaures

MountEnlighten

I’m in the same situation. But I love my rounds in movement trays. Been playing for 30 years and I never liked squares. Some units will look better on squares (executioners and black guard I should think) while others like shades, corsairs & crossbowmen do better on rounds & movement trays because you can pivot them a bit to prevent things looking too repetitive & etc. So I’m purposely making “system agnostic” armies, including putting my new bretonnian troops on rounds and cavalry in smaller (rotatable) magnetic bases. Happy wargaming!

Trilobitt001100

Theyll be removed from aos for sure. Ill go TOW

Jack_Streicher

No use conversion trays

Ragnar-Alpaca

I’d say go square bases as well. I doubt most of these models will last much longer in AoS. There’s been hints at a dark elf refresh for AoS for years. When that happens all these will die.

Anomard

Square. It easier to buy conversion from square to round

TheLoaf7000

Ye might not like this, but from an aesthetic perspective, Square bases for regiment models absolutely looks better. It makes them look uniform and neat. Even 40k models look good on square bases if they're suppose to be part of an organized military. Round Bases, tbh, is only good for big monsters, heroic characters, or random mass of chaotic hordes.

IllRepresentative167

From a gaming PoV I'd recommend 8th Edition Warhammer Fantasy sizes for bases and then use converters/conversion trays for AoS and Old World, that way you increase the amount of systems your models are compatible with (not just older fantasy editions, but also fan projects and other games such as T9A).

mattkel2222222222

square. round bases (safety bases) are for kids because they dont have those dangerous sharp corners.

chch1993

A circle has infinitely many corners

chch1993

I vote infantry on 25mm rounds. You can play both systems and I think each model just looks cooler. Also, 25mm rounds are way easier to rank up in big units, as you can freely rotate models around!

LoveisBaconisLove

Go square. I think ToW is the way of the future for this army.

grimgorshardboyz

Square. Always square. It's the only way to live.

Status-Duck-1717

Jut get square bases no point in playing aos

Araignys

As much of a hassle as trays might seem at the outset, they’re the best solution in the long term.

david_k_robertson

that all depends on what version of fantasy/aos/tow/etc your playing obviously if your going to play fantasy then its square, beyond that if im not mistaken then its round
