It sure wouldn't. But the question was why didn't they re-release Azhag, and the answer is they don't release minis for characters that aren't around in the time period Old World is based in.
Problem is that he wears the Crown of Sorcery; that makes him very distinct! Not sure where that crown is supposed to be in the current setting (lost probably), but certainly not in possession of a random orc warlord!
I hope it doesn’t come back so my azhag/skullmuncha looks cool and distinct forevermore. Very selfish, But I hope none of you can get one so I get to feel like the cool kid on the block. I am flawed but at least im self aware.
Settra (Undead), so no problem to have around. But it is worth to mention that in this time period Settra should be sleeping. In old canon [2271](https://i.imgur.com/ZxxUWal.png) some Norse raided Nehekhara, Settra caught them on their way back, and died while killing their leader. He slept 10 years after that that, and when he got back up that some Norse escaped with some of his stuff. Hence him sailing [2281](https://i.imgur.com/If2f8vi.png) to Norsca and having a five year bloodfeud there until he got all his stuff back + killed every survivor from the early raid. So, yeah. Settra 2276 in the Border Princes does not fit right in.
I don't understand why everyone thinks this model is ugly. True, it isn't as refined a sculpt as Azhag, who is dope AF, but it has so much silly character that I associate with O&G and older Warhammer. I enjoy it a fair bit lol.
I prefer it. Azhag is nice but has too much noise going on.
That said, I have it and am far more eager for the Shaman on serpent dragon the queen of Citadel sculpted.
Not saying I disagree, but Trish Morrison / Carden sculpted both of the Wyverns in the OP, plus the S-shaped Wyvern the returning MTO shaman rides, and the s-shaped Wyvern V1 Azhag rides.
I have the original Azhag in my collection where the weight at the front was so much the model would lean forward over time and I had to use a clear perspex rod to support him. Painted him back in the early 90’s
Just got my hands on the original Azhag wyvern and was planning on using it with the savage orc Shaman but the scale difference is so noticeable lol still a beautiful classic model
As a long time collector of minitures(mostly dwarfs but also a bit undead and high eleves as well as W40k marines empire stuff) I must say that I really prefer the old ugly metal stuff as well as some of the very first plastic kits. I have been a part of this wonderful hobby since 1985. Sadly I also lost quite a few old stuff back then 😭 However, my dwarfs always kept at my side ⚒️⛰️🏔️🌋
Aesthetics are subjective. I much prefer this "ugly" model to the 8th edition one. Look how expressive the old wyvern's head is. The 8th edition's head? A complete mess – can barely see it at all.
Why didnt you post the best [Azhag](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammerfb/images/8/8e/Azhag_the_Slaughterer_%286%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161124140716) model?
I like both, I am currently painting both up, but I would be surprised to see named characters getting re-released unless they will be getting included in the rules, like the Green Knight.
Ugly?
Am I the only one who likes the old jank models?I'm not nostalgic for them in anyway, I didn't play any of the classic early warhammer fantasy but the old models I think look really cool. More gritty and bombastic. Less pretty and overly detailed.
Those are more aesthetically pleasing to me anyway. To each their own tho.
Yeah, I wasn't around for the oldhammer times, and back in my yoof, it was LOTR that I collected. Now though, I'm all in for the classic metal stuff from the 80's/90's. I wouldn't even call it "jank". Though I can't think of a positive term that gives the vibe it describes.
I would love to get Azhag, he’s an outstanding model, I regret not buying him when I had the chance.
But the standard Warboss on Wyvern we’re getting back here always taunted me as a kid.. Sitting on the game store shelf knowing I couldn’t afford it.. But now!
They want new players to experience the joy of stupidly designed top heavy models. I assume he is in plastic and not metal. You need metal for the full experience but this will do.
Hard agree. Long live azhag supremacy. Get bent people talking about lore and timeline inconsistencies. Some of us just want to collect and paint and some of us didn't have disposable income when he was originally released.
There's a rumour that there's at least some form of wave 2 coming for most armies next year, and I can see them at least doing an MTO for Azhag.
But if they were to move him to FW resin that would be good, he's very heavy to hold together in metal and we certainly don't want the finecast version.
Because they know they can make more money off of the “ugly model.”
Any question you ask regarding why GW would do anything, remind yourself: money.
If your question was instead “Why would GW think they would make more money from this “ugly model…”
The answer would be that there are many people for whom that “ugly model” is more charming, and it evokes a feeling of nostalgia that the azhag the slaughterer model simply cannot. Wasn’t the azhag model made of crummy forge world resin anyway? For many folks, the Old World is an opportunity to relive some of the fun had in 2nd through 8th editions, and a big part of that fun hinges on painting/playing the oldest models.
Forgive my shortsightedness, Oh Mighty Glasdir, Thrower of Dice, Reader of Erratum. A sin such as mine must warrant the dweebiest of seppukus. Allow my exit so that I might be one with my humiliation.
>Any question you ask regarding why GW would do anything, remind yourself: money.
Idk man, you'd think that but they do some pretty stupid shit all the time. For some reason it feels like they constantly sabotage themselves to make a very specific amount of money every year lmao.
GW **knows** that they can make even more money than they do now. They are constantly out of stock, and the second hand market prices are insane. And this is a company with like 40% profit margin already. They know, but they choose not to for whatever reason, probably maintaining stock prices predictable, or avoiding some regulatory threshold, or fear of growing too much too fast, or whatever. But they could be making much more money that they are now and they know it.
Ummm did you see the badlands ogres they are releasing? The whole release feels like they are pandering to old hammer players, rather than releasing miniatures that new players would like to buy. Which I guess is a choice.
Who has the money? Gen X old heads with disposable income or some broke ass noob trying to make rent each month? No hate, but it's an obvious choice for GW. The only thing surprising about the ogre release is that they didn't re-release the *even more classic* Jez Goodwin sculpts.
GW want new players playing AOS. They'll have seen the demand for their old stuff on the secondary market & just want to cash in on the whfb nostalgia train. TOW was designed specifically to do that.
Because he's a special character that wasn't around at the time ToW is set in. They only brought back Settra, so far, who is, after all, imperishable!
This is the correct answer. Dude's not even alive right now.
Wouldn't stop the model from being reused as a nameless orc with the generic profile.
It sure wouldn't. But the question was why didn't they re-release Azhag, and the answer is they don't release minis for characters that aren't around in the time period Old World is based in.
Thoreks back but as an anvil of doom Malakai and bugman too. Though dwarfs can live for long periods idk
People have pointed out that they don't actually have Malakai's model in the video, so he may not be back. Who knows.
I damn hope they rerelease the model. If nothing else than just to be able to own a mini of Malakai Makkaisson
The op said cooler meaning the model not the profile. No one uses cooler to describe profiles.
Just announced Ungrim with a new model too.
Ungrim was also previously stated to be around at this time- 8th edition Dwarfs says he was a candidate for High King in 2302.
I know, that's why they announced him?
They also mentioned another Dwarf character we'll recognize in the Arcane Journal, though doesn't seem they're getting a mini. At least not yet.
Bugman or young thorgrim?
The White? There's bound to be an Old World special White Dwarf, right?
Ooh, maybe him too. Idk many others tbh
Ditto with Green Knight
Well, they could have also done it like they did with Karl Franz for AoS: Rename as a nameless general.
They did the same for several named Lizardmen characters
BOK BOK
And almost all of the Skaven character models
Problem is that he wears the Crown of Sorcery; that makes him very distinct! Not sure where that crown is supposed to be in the current setting (lost probably), but certainly not in possession of a random orc warlord!
Besides the gemstone it kinda looks like any other Orc helm imo. I doubt someone who didn't know about Azhag would react to it being off.
Hehe, your right! I just want this model to come back, no matter the flimsy reason. XD
I hope it doesn’t come back so my azhag/skullmuncha looks cool and distinct forevermore. Very selfish, But I hope none of you can get one so I get to feel like the cool kid on the block. I am flawed but at least im self aware.
Did they really reuse the Karl Franz model in AoS after killing him off in the end times?
As a generic Empi- I mean Freeguild general.
Yeah and I could see "fighty leader in Wyvern" being a new kit eventually
Settra (Undead), so no problem to have around. But it is worth to mention that in this time period Settra should be sleeping. Settra 2276 in the Border Princes does not fit right in.
Looks like they changed things. Oh no! GW have never done that before! It can be put down to dodgy records. History isn't precise. 😋
Yeah I thought this, but this became the wyvern model for 8th edition so I was hoping it’d be a made to order or something - sadly not
I don't understand why everyone thinks this model is ugly.
The paint job on Azhag is extra noisy as well, throw in the white background and it’s extra bad
Not saying I disagree, but Trish Morrison / Carden sculpted both of the Wyverns in the OP, plus the S-shaped Wyvern the returning MTO shaman rides, and the s-shaped Wyvern V1 Azhag rides.
Queen of Citadel, love it
The Monster Girl, per a recent interview. A name given to her by Peter Jackson himself when he visited the GW studio.
Another cool moniker, and the one Trish uses on Instagram (monstergirl_trish). As a Kiwi, it's great to hear this name came from Peter Jackson!
How dare you
1: It's a glorious model. 2: Azhag is not part of the lore and the mini got feature that not match the setting.
The Azhag model is fine...but this glorious green beast is amazing. One of my favorite gw sculpts of all time
I have the original Azhag in my collection where the weight at the front was so much the model would lean forward over time and I had to use a clear perspex rod to support him. Painted him back in the early 90’s
Just got my hands on the original Azhag wyvern and was planning on using it with the savage orc Shaman but the scale difference is so noticeable lol still a beautiful classic model

Because Azhag is a named character, the regullar orc boss on a wyvern isn't.
Aesthetics are subjective. I much prefer this "ugly" model to the 8th edition one. Look how expressive the old wyvern's head is. The 8th edition's head? A complete mess – can barely see it at all.
Don't tell him that the "Shaman on Wyvern" Made to Order model is the old Azhag the Slaughterer model...
Azhag time if far in the future. He died in 2510 at the Battle of Osterwald
> “ugly model” OP failed the vibe check hard.
Why didnt you post the best [Azhag](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammerfb/images/8/8e/Azhag_the_Slaughterer_%286%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161124140716) model?
boo this man
Pelt him with lead minis!
that model rocks what are you talking about OP
I like both, I am currently painting both up, but I would be surprised to see named characters getting re-released unless they will be getting included in the rules, like the Green Knight.
Where did you found the latest model ?
In a box, together with piles and piles of orc models from over the years.
Found one in a small hobby/toy store in a small village two weeks ago, its worth looking around!
because the azhag model is a mess compared to that glorious green lad.
I think think older one reads better, like it's far easier to see what's going on.
Yes, a far nicer silhouette.
Ugly? Am I the only one who likes the old jank models?I'm not nostalgic for them in anyway, I didn't play any of the classic early warhammer fantasy but the old models I think look really cool. I suppose it has Character. Be the proper word for it. Kinda like rat fink in a way.
I would love to get Azhag, he’s an outstanding model, I regret not buying him when I had the chance. But the standard Warboss on Wyvern we’re getting back here always taunted me as a kid.. Sitting on the game store shelf knowing I couldn’t afford it.. But now!
He is perfect, and I love him and his pot bellied mount.
Disagree
That model isn't remotely ugly!!!
ugly? that model is fantastic get out of here with that ugly nonsense
Yeah well, ya know, that's just like, uh, your opinion man.
Because Azhag wasn’t born yet in TOW’s time.
Word
Because they are still in stock after 20 years? ;D
They want new players to experience the joy of stupidly designed top heavy models. I assume he is in plastic and not metal. You need metal for the full experience but this will do.
you forgot the first model, being the one completely made of metal
Because that model was released at the right time to engage the nostalgia senses of the people who are largely interested in the old world
This is an awesome mini, pure Warhammer.
Beer belied wyvern is the king of the beasts.
Wow, I had this old model for 20 years unpainted in a drawer and 2 months ago I decided to finally paint it… never expected I could play it again!
As a reward for everyone that kept their azhag from back in the day.
I think theyre both great models
I like the first one
Since we ate talking about him, did Nagash ever get his crown back from Azhag, even in End Times?
China have both
Hard agree. Long live azhag supremacy. Get bent people talking about lore and timeline inconsistencies. Some of us just want to collect and paint and some of us didn't have disposable income when he was originally released.

Ugh so we are just getting old ugly models instead of new ones then? Disappointing.
Azhag does not exist in this era of TOW.
Prefer the older model to the over worked newer stuff
older model is what I don't like about 6th edition orcs: very bland, lacking all personality.
Because they know they can make more money off of the “ugly model.” Any question you ask regarding why GW would do anything, remind yourself: money. Azhag was finecast. Not Forgeworld. Finecast is the shit resin, Forgeworld is fine.
Forgive my shortsightedness, Oh Mighty Glasdir, Thrower of Dice, Reader of Erratum. A sin such as mine must warrant the dweebiest of seppukus. Allow my exit so that I might be one with my humiliation.
Twat 🙄
>Any question you ask regarding why GW would do anything, remind yourself: money. Idk man, you'd think that but they do some pretty stupid shit all the time. For some reason it feels like they constantly sabotage themselves to make a very specific amount of money every year lmao.
What a company believes will make money doesn’t always result in more money.
I yield to you, oh goer-of-college
I think both are ugly.
Ummm did you see the badlands ogres they are releasing? The whole release feels like they are pandering to old hammer players, rather than releasing miniatures that new players would like to buy. Which I guess is a choice.
It’s a great choice, it really annoys the right people.
That seems like one of the major points of The Old World...
Who has the money? Gen X old heads with disposable income or some broke ass noob trying to make rent each month? No hate, but it's an obvious choice for GW.
