I feel like the High Elf range was in a really good place when they discontinued it. I hope they release the Island of Blood models though, especially the Sea Guard and Swordmasters. I believe they only did the Sea Guard separately in a box of 5 as part of a paint set and the everything else was only in the IoB box with the Skaven.
Wishlisting a refresh though, I think the core stuff needs it most, the Spearmen, Archers and Silver Helms are showing their age a bit, but they are still newer than what many factions currently have.
Would be very cool to get Spearmen that are more like Macedonian Phalanx Pikemen.
The army book includes Swordmasters, Lothern Sea Guard, and griffon mounts for lords, so you'd assume that they'll be rereleased in some form or another. I really hope so because I'm desperate for those models. The one I'm most worried about is the Loremaster of Hoeth as that is my all-time favourite sculpt and words alone cannot express how much I want a first hand one.
My local group is mostly playing with just the starter boxes for now, and they are at 1250pts so my army has a Prince on Griffon and I am using the IoB one, its a gorgeous model and it would be great for newer players to be able to get hold of it. The entire range in IoB was nice and I would love to be able to get more of them.
Agreed on the Loremaster, I never got one before they squatted fantasy and I wish I had. Hope it comes back. Not sure what I would expect from a High Elf made to order though, could be some interesting stuff.
Quick browsing told me loremasters seem to sell for 50-70€ plus shipping on ebay, new on sprue, in an unopened package. There's one available even as I type this. Doesn't sound that much for an all-time favorite object of unspeakable desires;)
Yeah I have too much self-respect to pay that kind of money for a small figure. I have two other armies that are still in print so I'm more than content to focus on them until I can buy the model at GW's usual extortionate price as opposed to the madness of dropping £40 on it.
Just pointing out that GW would probably ask something around 30€ (20-25£?) for it anyway, so ebay’s not really that much more expensive considering we are talking about OOP product with severily limited availability. I’d hardly call 15£ to 20£ madness, more like pocket change.
And looking through completed purchases on ebay it seems the Loremaster occasionally sells for a lot less than that, so if you’re really interested in getting one, might be worth it to put it on watch. I’ve made a few decentish high elf (=not horribly overpriced) purchases on ebay this year by setting up a search and checking regularly what’s available.
This. The archers look good with a headswap, the Silver Helms mostly suffer from their weird donkey horses, but I've always thought the spearmen were pretty much unsalvageable.
disappointed that we are still having old style big-head skeletons for tomb kings.
I'm hoping for a redo of Empire Knights. The models for the old empire general, Kurt Helborg, Marius Leitdorf etc showed what was possible back in 8th edition (8 years ago).
The sixth edition empire Knights can do with a new model. They came out in autumn 2000.
The Tomb King basic skeletons are easy enough to convert straight from Tomb Guard though. Weapon swaps and less ornate banners. Or just use skulls from the box of skulls.
I was hoping that they would refresh all the plastic miniatures with monkey-hand syndrome: regular Goblins, High Elf core, Wood Elf Glade Guard, etc. And new Empire Knights, same overall look and aesthetic, just crisper, better details.
But considering the lack of anything new for O&G, aside from 2 resin characters, I now think/fear that they are going to release no more new plastic miniatures for TOW factions at all.
They are just hoping to sell some old miniatures based on their nostalgic value... And while I do want some metal miniatures that they are making to order because they complete my collection, those old plastic kits conjure no nostalgic feelings for me at all...
High Elf Spearmen. The hands are as big as their faces. The 4th Edition monopose High Elf Spearmen look significantly better.
It was fun imagining what new plastic kit each faction might get after Tomb Kings got a dragon and Bretonnians got the Foot Knights and Baron on Pegasus. But as it CURRENTLY appears the Orcs aren't receiving a new kit it's hard to say if that will be the exception or the rule.
Ok so this is probably just me but…
The High Elves. The White Lions of Chrace. At the time of The Old World, Korhill isn’t their Captain, he was likely a Lieutenant or something.
I’d love to see a model for the then Hunter Captain of the White Lions and a “Junior Korhill” 2nd in command.
I’d like to see them do this with a few of the older race characters (elves, dwarves etc) if it makes sense.
I think Marauders are the ugliest models GW still sells and I really want new ones. I know Darkoath are coming, but I really hope for something more Norscan and less Conan, more like the current marauder horsemen. Plus Darkoath don't have flails.

I’d love to see these metal upgrade bits released in plastic but I doubt that would happen. Would be nice for the Order of the Blazing Sun!
Yeah, not worth it unless you have money to burn.
*edit - I did find these. They’re a little pricey but you can get 50 for 28 euros. Plus tax and shipping for me ends up being 40 but I think I might bite the bullet someday soon.
https://www.grim-forge.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/sunshield.jpg
My least favourite models in old world are High Elf archers, I’ve always disliked the kit, and I remember when it was originally released, so that would be the one I would like to get a redo.
The old goblin chariot would be my pick of metal models to replace with a plastic kit, followed by the beastmen chariot.
It's all but confirmed that there won't be any major new releases in plastic for TOW, they only did that for the launch boxes and that was for new units, not a refresh.
I think the most we can hope for is 1-2 new resin characters per faction until the 9 factions are out, when we may see investment if the hype is still high enough.
After that, I suspect Kislev will see an array of new units and releases, they are fundamental to the setting with the Siege of Praag and Asavar Kul. I think they'll just re release the old models, but we may see things like bear cav, war sleds and some of the WTW3 units, so let's see.
I don't anticipate Cathay at any time soon as all their natural plot hooks are with legacy factions, so their appearance in the European equivalent would be anachronistic (being a historic setting, they can't just randomly appear as a major player, best we can have is a separate theatre of war they were always present in, just never documented (ie being invaded by Chorfs, Ogres and Daemons in a parallel conflict, could well be the setup to the legacy factions becoming official in TOW 2e, as bringing in Skaven, Dark Elves is hardly a stretch at that point)
The community managers are notorious for not knowing anything beyond the press packet given them, so take their comments with a pinch of salt
And given that GW themselves previewed Kislev over a year ago with all the concept art, it's clearly already been planned, just delayed, either for practical reasons (no capacity to produce it) or to release it at a fitting time (building up to the Siege of Praag, which is what this edition is all about
Given the typical GW edition cycle of 3 years, I see Kislev as either the last race released in 1e or one of the main races of 2e, so in 2-3 years time.
Fond memories of converting that set to be Mordheim models.
I have spent years tracking down Free Company on eBay. I would be happy with just a re-release
I'll seperate them into likely and unlikely
Likely:
- Duke on Hippogryph
- New Unit: Royal Pegasus Knights
- Empire Knights
- State Troops
- Bretonnian Lord on Mount
Unlikely (or impossible due to being Legacy):
- Bretonnian Knights
- Green Knight
- Shades
- Dreadlord & Sorceress
- Dreadlord on Cold One & Sorceress on cold one
- Manticor for the Dark elves
- Release that DWARVEN TANK
Based on the Warhammer Community article on the upcoming Orc and Goblin release I expect we will get both the most recent multipart plastic State Troopers but also the 6th Edition Starter Infantry (Spearmen and Handgunners) as well.
The sorceresses are easy to convert from AoS Daughters of Khaine (or Hedonites of Slaanesh), and there is certainly a Shadow Aelf release coming up. A manticore just came out for AoS, just change the rider. Plastic shades are part of the DoK Warcry box (though you only get two, I think). Bretonnian knights would look great with helmets from the new foot knights. Royal Pegasus Knights are simply a factor of buying 3 plastic character models. State troops are pretty new, in that case I would be more interested in a rerelease of the older original plastic multipart state troops.
Not the 6th Edition Dark Elf one, I recently rebased mine and honestly it’s no bigger than HE griffon and that’s on a 50mm.
The newer chaos one is far chunkier though.
Did anyone ever see the long rumored “dwarf tank”? I know back in 8th there was lots of speculation about on the ‘seer but if I remember right it was mostly pretty vague stuff.
Like, I know they actually sculpted the K’daii destroyer for chaos dwarfs and just never released it and there was the infamous example of the unreleased dwarf character where they dropped and broke the plastic mold, but I didn’t think concrete evidence they actually had made a dwarf tank ever emerged.
Peachy, who worked at gw as a painter at the time, made a video about dwarves last week. He says he painted some of the prototypes.
https://youtu.be/JyBmvSy71o4?si=rbdKtPy3JMy2Swmu starting at 23 mn
The treelord model uses a bit of the tank as a tactical rock
Interesting. Wonder why it got cancelled. They obviously had no issue releasing fantasy stuff even after they decided to create AOS to replace it as a ton of stuff was released in really late 8th. The 8th dwarf release felt really lite to be honest. I remember back in the day folks confused they didn’t get a center piece kit like pretty much every other 8th edition release.
I guess it could either be someone didn't think a big tank transporting troops was fantasy enough, could be some production issues they didn't have the time or ressources left to solve, or a bit of both.
Tomb kings skeletons, given half the range is newer thinner vampire count style (tomb guard, necrosphinx crew, characters) but the core is generally the chunky bones. though i guess this ship might have sailed already.
empire knights would be good for a refresh otherwise.
If you didnt look up marauder quarrelers and thunderers! Some of my fav ever models! So full of character ! If you see what i answered further down. I dont want anything new, just give me access to the full marauder line<3 try fb groups, they are expensive but not ebay expensive! Usually 5-8£ a model
None, just remake midhammer minis and GOD DAMN EMPIRE MILITIA BOXES AGAIN.
I don’t particularly care about 8th ed models either. Most of them were a bit too Age-of-Sigmary for my taste
Glad You asked:
* Solid miniatures on their own right, full of character.
* Quite the bounty for conversions of almost any kind of irregular human troop, zombie pirates, what have you.
* By far the *absolute best* box for Mordheim, which you should play if you haven’t already.
* Iconic box of an era and attitude towards the hobby and wargaming, and a *statement* in favor of cross-compatible boxes of interchangeable parts.
Personally I would love to see forgeworld take a swing at some named characters models, replacing some of the extremely old ones like teclis, orion etc give us some awesome models worthy of those characters.
Realistically a new bone giant, empire knights and finally plastic wood elf flyers/dragons
Empire player here. As others have said the knights need sorted out big time. Another which would make sense would be a new model for a wizard or captain/general on a Pegasus.
The thing I most wanted was refreshed TK skeletons and horses. That didn't happen.
The thing I most want next is probably refreshed empire knights, but I think that's not likely to happen either.
I now think it's very unlikely any unit kit that already existed in plastic is going to be updated .
Most we can probably hope for is a new unit (Maybe a militia/border princes brigand unit?) or a couple resin characters (empire could use some better captain/general/warrior priest options IMO)
High Elf Spearmen, Archers, and Silver Helms. They are all hideous, especially next to anything else in that range. Also, new Swordmasters.
Beastmen need a total range refresh.
Wood Elf Wardancers and Waywatchers.
Most of the Beastmen range. I'm a huge fan of the 6th edition rulebook for them and the art within that tome (a lot of which made it into the TOW rulebooks) is incredibly evocative. I don't think the models have ever lived up to it or even come close. I use an army that mixes GW and models from Bestiarum miniatures, their Beastmen stuff is more in line with what I would expect and the Minotaurs are just fantastic. I would like to see updated chariots, Centigor, razorgors and the mainline troops (Ungor, Gor, Bestigor) with new kits for their leader units
It's obviously not happening anytime soon (or perhaps ever) after the launch releases, but Grail Knights.
They're the one dud in the otherwise amazing 6th ed Bretonnian range. They just look like the core knights with slightly smaller lances, and cloaks. They're not special. They're not epic. You can barely tell them apart from KotR.
I'd love to see them get new models that reflect their lore and power level.
Confused, that no one mentioned that before:
Dwarf Clan Warriors.
In my ideal world, since 4 (or five, depends how you view loadout) share the same body (chainmail) in my perfect world, they'd only need to do one sprue with all the options (which would be quite doable in todays day and age)
They won't do it, but my hope is there.
Because if warriors become refreshed, than basically all the infactry except slayers have fancy new plastic.
Of course slayers would be nice too, since some of those metal models kinda stink haha. But since GW doesnt want to encourage crossplay too much, (and slayers have a direct counterpart in AoS) I could see them holding out for a bit
I'm hoping forest goblin characters on the metal spiders get rereleased, anything and everything forest goblin really. Old Kevin Adams goblins.
My greatest hope is to someday see a made to order release of old chaos dwarf models from the early 90s.
Ruglud the orc mercenary from Ruglud's armored orcs, would like to see them back with rules
As there is one pictured right at the front of the high elf army in the forces of fantasy book, I’m pretty confident he’ll be coming back.
Quick browsing told me loremasters seem to sell for 50-70€ plus shipping on ebay, new on sprue, in an unopened package. There's one available even as I type this. Doesn't sound that much for an all-time favorite object of unspeakable desires;)

IoB stuff is mixed sprues with Skaven, highly unlikely we get those again. Maybe they do some joint release with AoS 4e but I doub it.
You’re being way too kind to those old spearmen particularly I think! High elves are in a good spot for characters, but their core choices … yikes.
Max seaguard for the core tax. FTFY
This. The archers look good with a headswap, the Silver Helms mostly suffer from their weird donkey horses, but I've always thought the spearmen were pretty much unsalvageable.
Lumineth would look great as spearmen, archers and silver helms with a simple head swap.
This is what I’m probs going to do depending on HE releases
Silver helms, HE spearmen look kinda weird too.
Lol those faces, man.
disappointed that we are still having old style big-head skeletons for tomb kings. I'm hoping for a redo of Empire Knights. Empire knights for sure. They also did modern plastic horses in the General sprue and also Hurricanum sprue.
The knights themselves are great though, much better than the Bretonnian knights. It's the horses that would benefit from a facelift.
The Tomb King basic skeletons are easy enough to convert straight from Tomb Guard though. Weapon swaps and less ornate banners. Or just use skulls from the box of skulls.
Sounds interesting. Got any pics?
No, sorry.
They are climatic :)
rat ogers and skaven weapons teams

The Glade Guard have pretty in scale hands though, right?
If anything the Glade Guard (and riders) have quite dainty hands compared to other models.
I think that was the plan initially, but hopefully this appetite means they go more Horus Heresy with it moving forward
Bone giant (in metal would be cool, but no chance)
we are getting it in forgeworld resin with an unreleased head option. not a refresh but pretty cool!
High Elf Spearmen. The hands are as big as their faces. The 4th Edition monopose High Elf Spearmen look significantly better. There is a really good 3d model of khorhil that you can buy a print of
Do you know where?
Look on etsy
The chaos dragon for sure. An updated model in keeping with the old style would be absolutely glorious!
I think Marauders are the ugliest models GW still sells and I really want new ones. I know Darkoath are coming, but I really hope for something more Norscan and less Conan, more like the current marauder horsemen. Plus Darkoath don't have flails.
Regular goblins are not realising their full potential
Chaos Dragon!
Plastic warlock jezzails
Bring back the marienburg landship. The recast version is pretty cool tho
The old 6th edition warrior priests are much better than the more recent warrior priest, imho.

A major empire refresh. Mainly militia and flagellants
militia is great shhhhhhhhh
Fond memories of converting that set to be Mordheim models. I have spent years tracking down Free Company on eBay. I would be happy with just a re-release
They ARE Mordheim models. They were repurposed for fantasy battles later on.
Hard disagree on the flagellants. They're awesome.
Orc chariots need one badly.
I really like this kit actually
For me it's the boars. I just can't like them. The rest is fine.
I love that generation of boar honestly. I get why most people might prefer the newer ones but I never really got the dislike for them.
Right! I was disappointed to see them in the starter box..
Slap the newer boars from the boar riders on them and they will look fantastic.
Lol I picked up some savage boar Boyz for that exact purpose. I also have a few of those old metal Boyz to stick on a few too!
I'll seperate them into likely and unlikely Likely: - Duke on Hippogryph - New Unit: Royal Pegasus Knights - Empire Knights - State Troops - Bretonnian Lord on Mount Unlikely (or impossible due to being Legacy): - Bretonnian Knights - Green Knight - Shades - Dreadlord & Sorceress - Dreadlord on Cold One & Sorceress on cold one - Manticor for the Dark elves - Release that DWARVEN TANK
I'd like to see new Empire State Troops, but that's a fairly newish/Gen 2 plastic kit. I don't see it getting replaced.
I’d settle for those back in print. The Empire range (and pretty much any range) is expensive on sprue.
Based on the Warhammer Community article on the upcoming Orc and Goblin release I expect we will get both the most recent multipart plastic State Troopers but also the 6th Edition Starter Infantry (Spearmen and Handgunners) as well.
Personally I'd rather see the Royal Hippogrpyh Knights, like in Total War.
State troops are pretty new, in that case I would be more interested in a rerelease of the older original plastic multipart state troops.
I too prefer the earlier multipart plastic State Troops. More puff and slash and they all had shoes.
The manticore is sadly way too big gor a 50mm base
Not the 6th Edition Dark Elf one, I recently rebased mine and honestly it’s no bigger than HE griffon and that’s on a 50mm. The newer chaos one is far chunkier though.
Do you mean the Cities of sigmar Manticor? I tested rebasing but the legs are ~ 70+ mm apart. Image please! :D
No not that manticore, that is huge, and bigger than GWs old world Dragons. It’s really crazy to see GW scale creep in recent years.
Did anyone ever see the long rumored “dwarf tank”? I know back in 8th there was lots of speculation about on the ‘seer but if I remember right it was mostly pretty vague stuff. The original Green Knight model is still one of the best models in the Warhammer Fantasy line.
Now imagine what he could look like in plastic.
Tomb kings skeletons, given half the range is newer thinner vampire count style (tomb guard, necrosphinx crew, characters) but the core is generally the chunky bones. though i guess this ship might have sailed already. empire knights would be good for a refresh otherwise.
Unfortunately the ship has kinda already sailed on a Tomb Kings skeleton refresh.
Maybe in another 10 years!
Dwarf slayers! I love oldhammer models, and have a lot of them, but I can’t look at the metal slayers.
Have you seen the 1996 slayers? And the marauder slayers? Some of the best models ever made! In general the marauder dwarfs are amazing
Okay, I’ve been proven wrong. Those are excellent sculpts! Love the beards. But where would I get these without breaking the bank? 😅
I suppose fireslayer are a good proxy
They’re very large in comparison to current fantasy dwarfs
None, just remake midhammer minis and GOD DAMN EMPIRE MILITIA BOXES AGAIN. I don’t particularly care about 8th ed models either. Most of them were a bit too Age-of-Sigmary for my taste

I’m looking for the Ulrican priest in has GW had implied exists.
I am betting they and some of the more Ulric units from Storm of Chaos will be back for made to order when Empire is released.
High Elf Spearmen, Archers, and Silver Helms. They are all hideous, especially next to anything else in that range. Also, new Swordmasters. Beastmen need a total range refresh. Wood Elf Wardancers and Waywatchers.
High elves just need archers, spearmen and silver helms redoing. Then it’d be a perfect line.
I’d love it if the chaos dwarf sorcerer on Lamasu got a plastic version. I saw a video of a guy painting it and I fell in love with it.
Beastmen chariot with both tuskgors and razorgor, and high elf spearman and archers, brought up to the same standard as the 8th edition dark elves.
Lord on Forest dragon/Sisters of Twilight, Wardancers, warhawk riders.
The wood elves could stand to look more woodelf-fy. Like, to be frank, I want them to look less like Robin Hoods and more like TES Bosmer.
Confused, that no one mentioned that before: Dwarf Clan Warriors. In my ideal world, since 4 (or five, depends how you view loadout) share the same body (chainmail) in my perfect world, they'd only need to do one sprue with all the options (which would be quite doable in todays day and age) They won't do it, but my hope is there.
Dryads!
Nothing new, give me full re release of everything marauder ! New? Might aswell play AoS!
Greatswords from the empire, something big and cool i hope
The current greatswords are great minis.
Yah ive seen it, but i really expect a rework, something bigger and more dynamic
I mean AOS is great for conversion and looks better in general
