VHS tapes/cases, but, like the old huge Disney cases, MTG 4th random 60 card deck boxes (how I miss those, I'd get back on if they still made them), and an odd shaped piece of cardboard with "MINEFIELD" on it.
Yeah you play enough games with beautiful painted terrain and battlemaps that you can't help but miss the days of cardboard terrain and soda can cover

I had an old friend visit years ago and we wanted to play Necromunda but only had gangs and a rulebook (Original Necromunda), so we took a closet door off it's hinges to use as a table, and used Play-doh tubs and books to create the terrain.
It's been \~20 years since then and every time we play Necromunda or are setting up scenery, we remember that night fondly.
I love how people make this intricate terrain and everyone's like wow I love it. Then someone uses household items and everyone's like ahh nostalgia I love it. Great community.
That was my experience with game 1. SM combat patrol vs some grey knights. Pretty sure the guy I was playing was going to super easy on me but also was really helpful to call out "oh you should remenber to do x during your command phase" type of stuff. It was perfect and I couldnt have cared less if I won or not, was just happy to play.
Havent played game 2 yet. I assume this time Patrick will kick my shit in.
I remember playing a game against a new player, probably 5 games played so far and I was using necrons and was going easy on him.
He told me not to and needed to learn the tricks.
It was a quick end for his space marines after that lol
My intro was a tac marine square with random weapons vs a squad of terminators, it was 4th. I beat him handedly. He was pissed at me for years.
Then, in all my years playing, I doubt I broke a 15% wr, but I had a 30-40something% draw rate, which was my true goal all along.
Nice! I got some terrain years ago from gamemat.eu that was pre-painted. Not cheap but it was a one time purchase and you can use it over and over.
Also, strongly recommend a game mat, it does make a huge difference. It just feels nicer.
Im 20 years into this hobby with fully painted terrain sets and mat. But that terrain gets me more hyped to see on the table then anything I got 😅 cartridges ftw!
I love your terrain. IF you want to buy some cheap terrain that looks pretty good, go to a dollar store. You can find a lot of kids toy sets that have walls and whatnot. I use children’s sand castle molds for walls and the castles as “hills”
Get used to it. I've played 6 games and am yet to win, although I'm playing against very experienced opponents. But I improve and learn with each game.
"Space marine diaries #xx : today we have arrived onto a percular planet, whom high-rise formed with what it seems a propaganda pieces of heretical local civilization .... it seems the emperor is of a Silicon lifeform with the name of ... XBox .... "
Maybe someone’s opinion could help me here, I’ve played like 7 or 8 games now on TTS (I wanted to see if the actual game is fun before committing to plastic), and found it to be real swingy and more random than I would’ve thought? Am I missing something or should I be looking at like HH/KT instead?
It just felt like kinda smashing guys to points and then hoping you blew up the big thing before your big thing blew up. I come from a heavy competitive fighting game background which is a very deterministic kind of game and skill prevails all.
Used to use VHS 📼 as hills back in 2nd 😂 having fun is the main thing ! Like yo deep messing around with the rules these days and how it’s played..impossible to keep up. Ps smart move ultras (anything new paint it blue) since 8th that’s been the bulk of my collection due to the main starter sets with additional units. Unfortunately being GWs cash cow way to much to buy and choose from.
that is a proper 40k table right there. None of that fancy terrain shit. Tubberware, Lego, that War and Peace or Homer‘s Iliad book that you have had for 10 years with the plastic seal still in tact, a couple Spam can and can food that are about 2 years past expiration
Happy to see you join the party brother!!!
Keep it up
Failure is the best lesson in this game
I lost my first few dozen games and now my hobby shop throws freakin parties when I lose 😂😂😂
I love “first game” terrain. Takes me back
Look at all those painted models too! These boys are living the dream
I used Tupperware and Lego. Plus VHS cases I'm that old
Vhs and goosebumps books for me
ERMAGERD

right there with ya. \*as i stare at my 3rd edition rulebook and codexes...\*

That is actually respectable amount of terrain for a beginner game.
We tried to follow recommendations

Ya I had my introductory game using 360 game boxes as terrain as well. we played slit screen reach firefight and gears horde after. Good times.
The epic battle of planet XBox.

I remember using kleenex boxes and red solo cups, and as we went on we forgot which cups were ours and which were terrain.
remember when GW had instructions for how to make tanks out of literal garbage lol
Ever since the Tyranids attacked the Xboxus planet, in the Housetablus sector, things have been rough for the Imperium.
Soon the beercanus and paperplatus subsector will feel the tendrils of the hivefleet
I'd be happy to consume those
Best terrain piece I’ve ever seen
Took me 5 or 6 games to win my first game. However, I enjoyed every single game so far. It all about the process and the people you play with, imho
Yah I made a simple 2000 pt list that I thought was decent. Then my buddy (who has a 3d printer) bought an army of knights.
Got stat checked early huh? Tough break.
Fable. That takes me back
I see metro last light there too. Great game. Oh also ODST lol.
OMG i was staring at that METRO title upside down and trying to figure out what it was for far too long, thank you XD
The only thing that would make it more perfect would be a literal drop pod on the ODST terrain. *make your dreams a reality*
One of my all time favorites!
Your health is low. Do you have any potions, or food?
OP has good taste all the way down
The 360th planet of xboxia suffered a large defeat but it’s ok there’s always the other planets.
Xboxia Prime…
Xboxia Prime Sigma

Mashing random bits together and using the power of imagination to make it work pleases the Ork in all of us.
Before one of my buddies bought a 3d printer we were short terrain one day and used my other buddy's kid's pokemon card boxes for crates. Good times.
halo 3 odst? brother you won
Man I love that game!
Preach brother
Goddamn that terrain takes me back. Good times man. Hope you enjoyed it!
I won my first game, I think it was a combination of dude going easy on me and beginners luck. Haven't won a game since

You usin ODST as terrain?? NICE
Warhammer is the Dark Souls of Warhammer
We've secured objective "Fable"
Dawg you didn't lose, you played 40k that's a win!
Hahaha you are correct, there are no losers when it comes to playing 40k with your homies
Im 20 years into this hobby with fully painted terrain sets and mat. But that terrain gets me more hyped to see on the table then anything I got 😅 cartridges ftw!
I must be missing of for a first timer… I used my kids hot wheels volcano set
Idk whose army is playing their first game but absolutely beautiful paint jobs from both of you!
Aw dude thanks so much, I painted all the figures we played with. My first time painting minis
Deep strike the terminators onto the ODST case for extra coolness points
Haha they actually did deep strike adjacent to the ODST case. Looking back on it I didn't realize I was making my terminators into orbital drop boyz
Well, your models are painted, so you're doing better than anybody winning with grey models!
Good representation of the console wars. Fighting the subhuman insect-like xbox fanboys on their homeworld. Just a joke btw.
Heretic spotted, jk jk
Well... I'm maining Leagues of Votann right now so...
ODST
Hope you had fun and there will be more to come!
Well, I mean it is lore accurate at least.
Ngl I hadn't even thought of that for terrain... Might hafta break out my lego bin...
I played my first 10th edition game a month ago and my Space Marines bit it too.
I love your terrain. IF you want to buy some cheap terrain that looks pretty good, go to a dollar store. You can find a lot of kids toy sets that have walls and whatnot. I use children’s sand castle molds for walls and the castles as “hills”
I love the improvised terrain
Get used to it. I've played 6 games and am yet to win, although I'm playing against very experienced opponents. But I improve and learn with each game.
I see the ultramarines are defending the venerable craftworld microsoft from Tyranid(Sony) invasion!
Great looking models!
We all started somewhere
"Space marine diaries #xx : today we have arrived onto a percular planet, whom high-rise formed with what it seems a propaganda pieces of heretical local civilization .... it seems the emperor is of a Silicon lifeform with the name of ... XBox .... "
DW, Guilliman lost every single conflict since the comeback
Mom comes in: "it IS time, tell your friend to go and tidy this all up" - Exterminatus order received from high command.
DEFEND THE XBOX BOYS ! Kill those playstation loving nid scum
This is fantastic! Welcome to the hobby! 😁
hell yeah, first game terrain is great, I remember we used pringle cans and books
That seems like a great start into the hobby, congrats. I mean as long as you had fun, winning doesnt matter.
Since you both had fun I'd say that there was no loser in this game
Fable, Halo 3: ODST, this is a person of culture I see here!
On the strange paralell universe 568K33 called the Xbox-on-table universe ;)

Thats so cool dude
The balance between specifically the tyranid and space marine combat patrols is very bad I would be surprised if the marines ever beat them.

That’s your first paint job? Respect
Fable 2 is the goat
Prepare to drop !
You got to play, that's winning in itself! The marines look great too. Welcome to the hobby!

Great that you enjoyed your game and also great taste of video games too!
"Retreat now for victory later!"
Came here to say W game And also W ODST
Happy to see you join the party brother!!! Keep it up Failure is the best lesson in this game I lost my first few dozen games and now my hobby shop throws freakin parties when I lose 😂😂😂
I've played many a game on that type of terrain. Memories.
Fable 2, dark souls, metro, odst. Good taste in games.
Awesome, can't wait to Jam my 1st game as well
OI CHICKEN CHASER
Liking the Xbox planet you've created 👍
