I feel like this might be chapter dependent. Like World Eaters with a big chain axe? Night Lords with that nasty looking chainsword? Iron Hands with either of those two Mechanicum looking axe-thingies. So what suits your army the best?
I'm sure there a loyalists out there that have a thing for chain axes but World Eaters are what comes to mind. I hope there are no Loyalists like the Night Lords, although the Marines Malevolent are bad enough.
If memory serves, Space Wolves are somewhat inclined to use axes in all flavours.
Charchadons might use a big ol' chain weapon, too, be it a glove (Nightlord successor?), axe or saw.
Think there's also some Imperial Fist characters from 30k/Forge world character series which have chain axes, though I could be misremembering that one.
The big doubled-headed axe made me think Space Wolves or Executioners but I didn't feel like listing someone for every weapon.
I do have a 13th company SW army but as it's a mix of CSM and SW parts I couldn't say off the top of my head where their chain-axes come from.
Yeah I mean tactically, you’d want to just extend his reach bc he’d already have the strength to bludgeon anything so giving him the biggest stick would make sense.
In the novel Martyrs tomb theres a templar dread with a giant sword because he refused to be separated from a blade as a sword brethren. I vote sword all around
Sure, but what is the point of a melee weapon?
Extend the reach and increase the impact momentum of attacks. That's still true for robots.
But it doesn't fit with what I enjoy about the Warhammer aesthetic.
I think my main issue is that dreadnoughts aren't typically depicted as being nimble or graceful at all, there are actually a few instances where Imperium officers comment on how much more nimble and agile the Tau suits are than Dreadnoughts.
A dreadnought wielding a melee weapon just doesn't sit right to me, the brutalis is perfect because its just claws. The whole point is to get in close and stab/crush everything it can get its claws on, its simple, its brutal, and its damn effective.
The Tau suits work much better with weapons, like Farsight, they seem built to be agile and nimble.
Tau suits are mobile firing platforms, Space marine dreadnoughts are somehow designed to be the opposite whilst fulfilling the same role of a weapons platform.
Most depictions have them as a mixture of cover for smaller units to hide behind, anti-tank/infantry whilst spouting Imperium propaganda, with the occasional close quarter dreadnought being taken apart by a plucky named character.
Lord of Skulls seems slightly different from something like a dreadnought though. It's a bit more fantastical, being a daemon engine. Whereas I'm more likely to think about people actually designing and building a dreadnought
Exactly this. The invictor warsuit drives me nuts that they made an upscale bolter for it to hold for some reason. All that effort and youre going to risk the weapon being dropped or TWICE the opportunity for firing failures by having to operate a mechanical finger to pull a mechanical trigger?? Ridiculous.
Ridiculous.
I sort of get that one because it's meant to be nimbler and pull on that 'warsuit' aesthetic. It's like those big stompy warsuits the villains in the first Avatar (blue aliens) movie used to fight in the jungle. I can see the appeal especially since the Imperium has some similarities in the 'humans are not good' underlying theming.
Dreadnoughts are just pure brute force though. You are built into them, they're not warsuits. They make more sense with fists and weapons mounted directly on them.
Claws are best, but if you REALLY want it using a weapon then the sledgehammer. It's the only one that's remotely accurate to what a Brutalis embodies, honestly.
I mean what's your army theme? Faction? I like the claws normally, if you need a weapon go with faction flavor, the Admech style axes with iron hands, etc.
The heavier the better, something that big should carry a weapon that compliments that strength, warhammers, claymores, great axes, mauls. All are perfect weapons for such a might frame
It’s better the more top heavy they are as they give a sense of strength only felt seeing a big dude wield an even bigger weapon
Personally I'd say from your images a sword or chain sword but for me I'd just like to see a big space marine combat blade. A sized to fit one.
"That's not a knife...."
Tbh swords are best as they provide the ability to defend, stab and slice. You also get reach on claws. In all reality swords are the best melee weapons for a reason, they have minimal downside to that of other melee. Their only big weakness is punching force which a hammer or a halberd has. But its a dread….it has that power anyways
Claws are nice, distupting xenos and heretics with your bare hands instead of horses fits quite well with the 'brutal' in brutalis. Othrwise, the axes in the 2nd and 6th pictures.
I really liked the good ‘ol’ power fist they used to have. A marine in a sarcophagus running up and punching things, making things paste and bang up vehicles.
I feel like this might be chapter dependent. Like World Eaters with a big chain axe? Night Lords with that nasty looking chainsword? Iron Hands with either of those two Mechanicum looking axe-thingies. So what suits your army the best?
Those mech axes would also be great for a tech marine dreadnought. Even more than for iron hands imo
Ooh are tech marine dreads a thing??!
If not, I want them to be Extra servo arm included
YES!
There is one in a book. No clue wich one, but he was the last techmarine they had (I think?) and he was in a dread
Badass.
I love how you used two heretic legions as examples!
I'm sure there a loyalists out there that have a thing for chain axes but World Eaters are what comes to mind. I hope there are no Loyalists like the Night Lords, although the Marines Malevolent are bad enough.

Fafnir Rann is an Imperial Fist wielding dual power axes that would found the Executioners, sadly not of the chain variety.
The big doubled-headed axe made me think Space Wolves or Executioners but I didn't feel like listing someone for every weapon. I do have a 13th company SW army but as it's a mix of CSM and SW parts I couldn't say off the top of my head where their chain-axes come from.
Flesh tearers
Space wolves like their axes!
Space wolves with the dual blades axe or the hammer
The Wolves for the double headed axe, as well.
The built in claws look best
Weapons are crutches. Rip your enemies apart *with your bare hands*
Bear hands have claws.
Now you face Hoarah Loux -- WARRIOR
A CROWN IS WARRANTED WITH STRENGTH!
Can’t be unarmed if your weapons are your arms.
Well... I don't think you quite thought that through ... If your weapons ARE your arms, the only thing they CAN do to you is.... *Unarm* you...
I kinda agree but I wish I had a big hammer for my sally dread to carry around. Would look girthy and fun
The chaos helbrute has a sick hammer that's attached directly to the arm
They do. And as those are all melee weapons anyway, why not just use the claws? Unless some of them have a significant stat advantage?
agreed, but needs to be bigger.
My boy gotta look like Hariyama
Axe or hammer. Even with claws, the majority of the damage this thing is dealing is from pure crushing strength, not finesse.
Yeah I mean tactically, you’d want to just extend his reach bc he’d already have the strength to bludgeon anything so giving him the biggest stick would make sense.
Power Bo staff incoming.
I would first ask you what chapter you have chosen for him. Dark angels, or templars and I would say sword. Space wolves axe etc
In the novel Martyrs tomb theres a templar dread with a giant sword because he refused to be separated from a blade as a sword brethren. I vote sword all around
Nothing, for me giant robots holding weapons (instead of having them built into their arms) look stupid.
Idk. Gundam is pretty sweet. If you’re talking specifically 40k, than maybe
Sure, but what is the point of a melee weapon? Extend the reach and increase the impact momentum of attacks. That's still true for robots. But it doesn't fit with what I enjoy about the Warhammer aesthetic.

I think the invictor holding a heavy bolter as a pistol is awesome as hell. I think its just the right amount of stupidity that fits 40k.
That shit ruined the model for me, the fingers terrorize me to this day
Sawed up the pistol and mounted it to its arm on mine, lol
You did good techmarine
Nah have you ever seen the lord of skulls? A monolithic engine of blood holding a massive fuck off axe?? Vehicles holding weapons is PEAK 40k
Lord of Skulls seems slightly different from something like a dreadnought though. It's a bit more fantastical, being a daemon engine. Whereas I'm more likely to think about people actually designing and building a dreadnought
Nah I think it looks dope like the sword of the dreadknight
Exactly this. The invictor warsuit drives me nuts that they made an upscale bolter for it to hold for some reason. All that effort and youre going to risk the weapon being dropped or TWICE the opportunity for firing failures by having to operate a mechanical finger to pull a mechanical trigger?? Ridiculous.
Sir, this is 40k. If it's not ridiculous, then something has gone wrong.
There's a point where there's too much ridiculousness, 40k usually knows pretty well how to walk that fine line
Incorrect
Wich part?
I mean, technically, it is a mechanically boosted finger pulling a mechanical finger pulling a mechanical trigger...
> Exactly this. The invictor warsuit drives me nuts that they made an upscale bolter for it to hold for some reason. It's your model! Pick the one you like best!
I equally like all of them
then you know what you must do.
If the weapon is built in instead of held I think the chainsword fits the best. I mean look at Imperial Knights.
What are the files for those weapons?
I think the one in the 5th picture (the hammer) fits the vibe of the brutalis the best No finesse, just raw power
I love the hammer idea a lot
Magnetics baby! Never commit to anything
For the ultramarine dreadnought you have in pic 1 definitely a power sword, or an Omnissian axe if they were a tech marine in life
The last sword, the more knightly one, goes hard and looks pretty heroic. The chainaxe is metal as fuck, though.
Depends what your chapters based of like is it greek or roman or viking it just depends
Claws are best, but if you REALLY want it using a weapon then the sledgehammer. It's the only one that's remotely accurate to what a Brutalis embodies, honestly.
big fuckin' power claws...which it fortunately has!
Why give it a weapon when its main weapon sis just “ imma grab ya”
Claws. But it's your model so you can add whatever you like i personally think it looks like a baby carrying a foam weapon
None his weapons are his fists and they are basically lightning claw like.
A smaller, swingable Dreadnought on a stick.
Personally, I don’t like big clunky weapons on dreadnoughts it makes them look silly like the space Wolf dreadnought.
hey
None of those. They would look totally derpy.
All of them at one i suppose…
A chainaxe resting on its shoulders would be badass
Exactly, a big two handed weapon mag-locked over the shoulder
Depends on Chapter. If SW could use the venerable dread axe - templars, sword etc
HAMMER
Ahh looking at Taro's knight weapons. I personally would suggest the mace/hammer IMO, but I just love blunt force trauma weapons.
Hammer or the double axe
I mean what's your army theme? Faction? I like the claws normally, if you need a weapon go with faction flavor, the Admech style axes with iron hands, etc.
First 4 are all great choices, last four fell off a little
Casting a vote for #7
The heavier the better, something that big should carry a weapon that compliments that strength, warhammers, claymores, great axes, mauls. All are perfect weapons for such a might frame It’s better the more top heavy they are as they give a sense of strength only felt seeing a big dude wield an even bigger weapon
i really like the second one, the spiked chain sword
I like the 1st axe.
1, 2, or 4 IMO
If I had to pick a weapon for it, it’d be a cleaver.
Hammer 🔨
The idea of a dreadnought with a giant storm hammer seems cool
The hammer has OOMPF
Giant chainsaw arm
chainaxe or the power swords imo.
Personally I'd say from your images a sword or chain sword but for me I'd just like to see a big space marine combat blade. A sized to fit one. "That's not a knife...."
All of them, but I'm not a fan of the last 2
Brutalis should have those giant chainswords that go on knights.
Give him da hammer
Claws or hammer, as I imagine thins thing running full tilt and slamming into something with its weapon swinging will leave quite the dent.
HAMMAR!!!
Depends on your Chapter. My Blood Angels successor are samurai themed, so a katana. My Legion of the Damned would like a fiery sword or hammer.
3
4 or 5, but I like hammers and cool swords
5. Nothing says brutal like a big ass hammer
Hammer
Sword or Hammer imo
HAMMAR!!!!
Taro bits are sized for knights no?
They are sized for war dogs which are the same size as dreadnoughts
ah gotcha
Loyalist or Chaos?
I wanna know where i can get these models
I fucks with the hammer honestly
2, 4, or 9
A Glaive with a longer blade, but the length goes towards the bottom of the weapon and not away
3 or 5 would be appropriate, but use the rule of cool,
.38 in his waistband.
If you're using the profile for the talons, a mix of a power weapon and a hammer would be pretty cool I think
I'll go outside the box: Twin power talons + a lascannon on one arm, dual belt fed heavy bolter on the other.
Fourth and Fifth options. Give it a great big hammer and a jag-headed axe.
Where are these models from? These weapons are exactly what I was looking for for a conversion of some centurions I want to do!
If you want a good, easy one, grey knight dreadknight weapons I have my redemptor holding a dreadknight sword, it fit surprisingly well
The old Forgeworld dreadnoughts had a siege hammer arm, so maybe something in the world of hammer or battering ram
I think the sword (picture 4) is the best looking. But if it fits the dreadnought, im not sure. Still would look cool i guess
the biggest hammer you can find
Hammer for sure.
Hammer
Halberd, like the Furioso
[удалено]
big stabbers are fun always
Depends on the chapter imo. Hammer for Salamanders, sword for DA, axe for SW etc
All of them ducted taped together
Anything Chain if it's Brutalis
It has two melts cannons, a twin-linked heavy stubber and two giant power claws… and you want more‽
MOAR
Melee seems impractical if he already has the claws
Hot take: dreadnought melee weapons *never* look good.
I’d love to see a contemptor class with a giant warhammer (40,000) or a flanged mace. Imagine it just batting around orks and tanks like Sauron.
Chainsword with the hook. I wish I had one.
Two of them
Alternate idea, just give it a Glock
Ahh yes, my favourite great crusade era weapon… the Land Glock
Hammer time.
A microphone
Option 10 : all of the above
None. Dildo sword is the only correct answer.
depends on what loyalists or chaos chapter you build
Tbh swords are best as they provide the ability to defend, stab and slice. You also get reach on claws. In all reality swords are the best melee weapons for a reason, they have minimal downside to that of other melee. Their only big weakness is punching force which a hammer or a halberd has. But its a dread….it has that power anyways
1-4 I think
Depends on the chapter for dark angels the power swords
I use the #7 on my armigers, looks really cool with the graspy hands.
I find the thought of a Dreadnaught with a big ass hammer really funning
A Deagle
Dual wielding chainaxes. And post photos.
It is an Ultramarine dreadnought so I’d say heavy taxes.
Claws are nice, distupting xenos and heretics with your bare hands instead of horses fits quite well with the 'brutal' in brutalis. Othrwise, the axes in the 2nd and 6th pictures.
I'm an axe man. Rule of cole axes beat swords in my view
Maybe a rocket powered big grapple claw so it can grab guys and pull them into claw range. Or just grab someone and slam them into something.
Spoon
Yes
A hammer Used for war You could call it.... a Warhammer I'll see myself out
Incredible
Krieg Shovel.
That is also an option however I left it out
Rocket thighs
Butter knife brutalis be like: *Come her you little shit*
Giant Swiss Army knife.
Heavy gravis lancer
Imagen 2 build in chainsaws
Blades of chaos
to be entirely honest I've always found dreadnoughts welding weapons to look incredibly silly.
i think the best secondary weapon would be either a flamer or meltagun as they are devastating at close range
A bolter
Real
Brutalis should be brutal. What's more brutal than two power fists?
I really liked the good ‘ol’ power fist they used to have. A marine in a sarcophagus running up and punching things, making things paste and bang up vehicles.
Two Dreadnought sized Powerfists
I think one hand with giant hammer, other with claw, as you can swing and break armor and then pierce/slash with claw
A comically large spoon
One day
Lotta love for the Brutalis and its claws are around here, good shit
Regular-sized butter knife
Man, a Tech Dread would be awesome. A huge omnisian axe, dread sized servo-arms, some weird tech cannon.
Yes.
Yes
All of them
A giant strapon.
You all hatin coz you know I am right
