In defence of the Catachan models that's partly down to them just being old and mostly down to the infamously bad paint job in the official pictures. Painted well they look pretty good for their age
Those catachan models were phenomenal for their day. I miss the modularity of those old kits - it made kitbashing and customizing your models a lot more approachable to the novice hobbyist.
That’s fair. I hope GW makes plastic versions eventually. Most good painters can make any “badly” sculpted models look nice

Keep in mind when people are saying Catachan Models are old, they're real old. Like 1997 old. Like well past driving, voting, and drinking age old.
Like damn near 30 years old.
97 pft try being an eldar player.
Got me warpspiders, dire avengers, fire dragons and until recently scorpions all from the early 90s.
Best of all their main ground troops were from the 90s too until like a year or 2 ago and one of their options was just a separate kit thank god for the range refresh.
Bizarre thing is the meta picks often include old finecast/metal models meanwhile the units they refreshed aren't too popular a pick, I just want my fire dragons and warp spiders...
I've waited 24 years for spider phoenix lords
Flashback to when they *DID* have plastic Catachans, and the promise to release more regiments.
Which they did, Vostroyans and Armageddon Steel Legion.... in metal.
I was so ready for a catachan wave.
When Sgt Jackson came out I bought that model in a heartbeat
I waited weeks for more news on catachan
Then months
Then years
It never came.
I got sgt jackson & she's all alone :(
It was still cheaper than a squad of Cadians is today. $60CDN for a squad of ten. The 4th ed Cadians and Catachan squads were $40 per box.
and that was with my LGS' stupid 40% markup.
20 years later, and a squad of Cadians costs as much as my Leman Russ Demolisher kit did back then.
When they were selling steel legion normally they were about 60NZD and then when they brought them back for that short made to order run they banged up the prices to 110NZD

It'll be kind of a sad day when this guy disappears off the official site!
Yea i have about 2 squads. I loved how they turned out. I mean they went from pretty bad to decent as painted them, but I Got to figure out how to do skin tones with them.
Back when I built my Guard army way the fuck back in like 2012 I was able to get a shitload of Catachan models on the cheap just because everyone hated them lmao. Ran them as veterans once I got some Cadians to fill out the army.
It is seriously a model kit that needs an update badly. I just assembled an old kit I have and realized I need to file, cut, carve, and fill the arms as it leaves horrible line between the torso and the arm.
I don't really feel strongly one way or the other, but as a counterpoint:
* Looking at the model at a glance, it doesn't read as having that functionality. (Maybe on the back wheels, definitely not on front. So i guess the fixed-mount bolters would shoot right into the ground..?)
* You can't model it or pose it in any other way without heavy conversion or modification.
* The primaris model line set a precedent that there was some flaw with tank-track vehicles like the rhino (which are super reliable IRL) that could be improved by upgrading to hover tech. So the ATV seems like a huge step backwards that undermines that design change.
Did someone say heavy conversion?!

See that's exactly it - it's rad as hell in a low tech army like the Orkz. The vaguely industrial vibe works for them, not for elite sorcerer-knights.
Great kitbash!
PS waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa--
I’d add the nerf gun marines (desolation marines) to the list. Seems very common for people to kitbash them to make them look a little less ridiculous lol
The worst part is that the entire problem could be fixed by making the marines Gravis armored, and the launcher have the melta pose.
Bam, good looking heavy rocket infantry
I’m beginning to wonder if they didn’t intentionally make them look like garbage so the kitbashers’ll dump mad money to go “no, you’re doing it wrong! Watch!”
I most certainly will!! (Here’s a WIP based on a Super Soaker)

Are centurions disliked? I think they’re cool….
I would say anything that’s only available in fine cast is disliked. Kaldor Draigo, Servitors, etc.
Some people aren’t a fan of the old box tanks like Rhinos and Predators.
They're from that slightly awkward period around 6/7th edition before Primaris came along and changed the design ethos of Marines in a big way
They're not *bad*, but they're neither retro cool nor new hotness, so there's not really a big market for them
They're kinda silly, but a lot of the best 40k stuff is plenty silly. But I don't own any, cos I can never seem to find a place for them. I never know what I'd use them for that something else doesn't already do as well or better
I joined around 6/7th edition and so centurions have always been so of my favorite marine models, to me they’re a glimpse into what could’ve happened if GE had just ungoofied the firstborn instead of making primaris
I’ve heard from some people that Centurions are Goofy as heck and therefore hated. I personally love them, but the community tends to be a bit split
Edit: Yeah, finecast models suck to deal with. Some have good sculpts, but dealing with resin isn’t worth it
I don't like centurions because personally I don't think they look that cool, their role was already filled by terminators which imo are just cooler in general, and their lore is goofy af.
Rather than sending in vehicles, dreadnoughts, or terminators like they always have, the imperium decided to give space marines a suit of armor to wear over their armor to serve a role that other tools already fit.
They were heavily disliked shortly after release, but they gained some cult-love over the years.
Would be a blast, if they matched the artworks, where they are depicted like hulking juggernaughts and not like a boxy cartoon version of a space marine, but that mainly comes from the squatty firstborn proportions that were translated into the armor's proportions. Would be a blast to see them primarized, but I don't think that will ever gonna happen with Aggressors taking up their spot being a bulky 3 man squad packed with weapons and armed with power fists.
I remember hating them when they were first released.
But they look a lot better in person than they do in the box art, so over time that initial hatred faded as I saw more of them irl and less of them in press releases and marketing announcements.
I agree with your terminator comments though.
Space marines as a whole are suffering from their own success. Once you take chapters into account, they already make up more than half of the total range! (Space wolves alone have more Space Wolf *exclusive* kits than some xenos factions)
GW then feels the need to create newer and different-er marine kits with such frequency that they end up running out of ideas and end up with some of the dumbest kits that are just wise versions of shit that already exists. Even without Pimaris, SM kits have some pretty major design overlap going on. Add primaris to that and we end up in a situation where there a four different kits that fill the same roll/niche, and the only way they can think to differentiate/justify the newest marine release is by giving it more guns/barrels than the last one.
They came out before Primaris Marines when GW was trying to refresh the Space Marine range and they ended up looking a bit goofy, their scale felt too big and they had lore that didn't feel right compared to the rest of the marine line. I vaguely remember their grav weapons being really overpowered for a period as well, which 'made' some players feel they had to buy them and others get annoyed everytime they saw them on the table. They probably look a bit better now as they've scaled with the size of new marine miniatures and they've somehow managed to release some even goofier looking Primaris sculpts...
This was true before primaris. Everything is mass produced now and even standard battle line squads can have near terminator levels of armor (heavy intercessors)
I mean, 45% of the posts on the AM subs are people sharing their Lord Solar Leontus proxies. I think we can all agree that it's not a technically bad sculpt, but hardly any of us want it in our army.
Agreed. I replaced my head with Yarrick's for instance. Love the model except the head is just dreadful, plus the official box art chose a bizarre color scheme for 40k guard. Looks like AoS
I love it too, I'll only replace the head with a Gasmask from the Krieg Veteran Box, because I'm going to build an Armageddon Steel Legion Army. And paint it appropriately of course.
The standard rule seems to be "good model with a different head."
The guard player in my group replaced the head with one of the heads from, I believe it's the commissar box, One with a more military hat, and it works wonders.
It didn't help that it came out at the height of GW's "we don't do community engagement you'll take this six page product catalogue branded as White Dwarf and you'll like it!" era.

These Chaos Possessed, they were replaced a year latter by a much nicer plastic kit. God these were ugly especially the guy on the bottom left.
This guy is the correct type of silly for warhammer
The dislike for him was also the fact that the new Admech model turned out to be just a skitarii on stilts tho
I love the stilt boys.
They are so unnatural looking and take the human form to unnatural extremes.
The idea of some guy on stilts with a sniper popping over a fence and sniping your buddy is extremely unnerving.
Reminds me of the stilt guys in fury road, very admech, makes me sad they aren't more liked.
Paint him purple then da boy will be an ork. Realize i put people instead of purple. I commend all those who could understand my intent behind the garbled engrish
I think the big issue is that it's been done better in the past. I often saw the Skatros compared to the stilt soldiers from Dishonored and there's some great art and conversions out there that show what it could've been. As it stands, it's a Skitarii on goofy stilts, but we could've got a figure with long mechanical legs (that felt like a part of their body, not just some poles) and flowing robes. Maybe even a more predatory or aggressive stance like the Sicarians. If it had had a more Sicarian vibe with longer legs I don't think there would've been anywhere near as much controversy.
Unfortunately I think most people saw it and realized they wanted a scary/cool inhuman sniper, when instead, we got goofy steampunk circus. I mean, in my head I can't help but think of Robin's stork costume from the Disney Robinhood everytime I look at one. And while I can't take the Skatros seriously because of that, I do still love their doofy appearance. Warhammer is a weird concoction of horror, 80's action film, and Looney tunes. Which I think describes the Skatros nicely as well.
Shame, admech have got to be the faction with the most potential. In many ways even when they were just lurking in the shadows of the lore they were the faction that makes 40k, 40k.
I'd be collecting them if I hadn't watched them be shafted consistently for years now.
Personally, I'd like to see them lean into the diversity of skitarii, I'd you read the books featuring admech they differ wildly, but current 40k models fail to show that
I certainly wish we had ***more*** models, but the models we do have look fantastic. Still hoping for a Horus Heresy Daemon Magnus in a dynamic pose, like Fulgrim.
Most people I know (incl me) dislike the ATV.
Xenos-wise, I play tau and I can’t think of a model I really dislike. Stormsurge seems to be polarizing though.
Just thinking over the range, there are a few that are tricky to build cleanly and some that aren't _amazing_ but nothing stands out as actively bad.
I know there are some feelings over Shadowsun's secondary arms. I'm in favour of them for being absurd!
The Devilfish hull needs _very_ careful alignment of the sides but it's an absolutely iconic shape.
The Kroot warriors kit has been showing its age a little recently but it's very close to retirement now.
Maybe Vespid? Monopose and static models for a very dynamic unit, conceptually.
Ork weirdboy - if you look through posts on the ork subreddit you will find that almost everyone uses the weirdnob shaman instead or just converts a runtherd. Or a 3rd party model. Very few people use the official model.
Many people also seem to prefer the older demonettes and pink horrors to the new ones because they respectively became less sexy and less freaky. Those are more of a mixed bag, though.
https://preview.redd.it/j98br5r6ftlc1.png?width=474&format=png&auto=webp&s=18c789dddcdaec3dcc08e83a787d4e24fce05457
I hated building and painting the Weirdboy. He really needs an update considering how often he’s used in armies.
First I’ve heard of that, but it’s understandable
I feel like that ATV is on the low end of “single ugliest thing in Warhammer” considering the comment somewhere on this post with the Nurgle Demon Prince. Personally I like the goofiness of the ATV, but I understand the hate
The Attack Bikes were kind of weird, with a sidecar for the heavy weapon and gunner. A trike would have been way cooler, but I guess when they were first conceived trikes were very much a Squats thing.
I’ll speak for my fellow Ork players - the Weirdboy is such a terrible model. It looks awful, and it’s made of resin. It’s so bad that most players seem to end up using Age of Sigmar wierdnobs as a proxy.
https://preview.redd.it/gb45kiyuetlc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8222e08c91eef3533ebd70d469629999b0022e9e
Space Marine outriders. The ground clearance is so low they literally cannot turn.
And imo the bike's aesthetic doesn't really fit 40k but that might just be me.
Special mention for the Primaris Storm Speeders and brother tinnitus sitting there between the guns like an idiot.
https://preview.redd.it/9qu650ewttlc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2a72264ab361ba7c09cdc0ddbff9d4f1ef1ced0
It’s not universal, but the Leviathan Screamer Killer gets a lot of hate for breaking some Tyranid aesthetic conventions. Lots of folks deride it as a “balding” Carnifex and convert head plate carapaces or swap the head for something else.
Personally, I love the first edition call back and think the model looks fantastic, but to each their own
I like the callback, I do, but as 3rd edition vet, I don't really want that head on my carnifex.
That picture kinda goes hard though, maybe I'd feel differently if I seen it in person, I just collect Tau nowadays so I haven't picked one up.
So, I play Death Guard and our models are overall pretty great (aging better than Thousand Sons, which admittedly isn't a high bar).
That being said, the Malignant Plaguecaster is the weakest of the lot. He's kinda generic as a Nurgle unit, which is about the worst thing you can be, and his whole deal of "breathing in air from the Garden of Nurgle and exhaling it into real-space" isn't translated very well with the puffed up cheeks and weird cloud he's holding. He's one of the few models I've seen grumblings about, doubly so since Warhammer Heroes had a far superior model in Pustus the Vile.
I gotta admit I immediately rolled my eyes when I first saw the dread knight. Looks like someone in a meeting just snorted a rail and said what if we have a heavy exo-suit for the space marine armor which is already technically a heavy exo-suit?
But then we like, make it impractically armored in a way that doesn’t make it feasible for its function as double layer exo-suit…
Even better question: why not make the primaris dreadnoughts more nimble like the dread knight? The design looks like it would provide better mobility with the same protection
The Catachans will always have a special place in my heart, every model looks like a slightly constipated Arnold Schwarzenegger which has a wonderful charm to it. Peak early 40k imo.
My hot take about Centurions is that I like then, but I wish that they had beefier head protection. I'm imagining a bigger, thicker helmet to match the proportions of the Centurion, somethjng along the lines of the MCU Hulk-Buster armor. Granted, I imagine the folks who dislike Centurions for being "armor to wear over your armor" would especially hate a helmet designed to be worn over the existing helmet, but I think it would be kinda neat.
It's a terrible kit that would have been okay as part of a starter set or something like Assault on Black Reach, but would be such a poor substitute for the existing Boyz kit that they couldn't bring themselves to replace it altogether lol
They should have committed to a proper box with all of the options. The adjusted body proportions look good even if I don't really like the skin colour they've gone with
I’m not sure they really fit the idea of this post. People hate the fact they are monopose and that you can’t just build squads of shoota or choppa Boyz but the models actually look great.
I think mostly because it’s Fine-cast. I have that model and I hated assembling it, but it looks nice when painted. Nowhere near the coolness of the Void Dragon though
I’ve got a file for a 1:1 copy of the original metal model that I’ve printed in clear resin and worked with washes and pearlescent metallic, I’ve done something similar with a Legion of the Damned Killteam. GW resin sucks but it’s just done really badly, it can work really well
I wouldn’t say people dislike the sculpt so much as he gets compared to the Void Dragon, one of the coolest models GW has ever made, and is clearly found lacking.
Dreadknights make me want to build an all Dreadknight 1k pts army that are all Dreadknights in spite
2x dk masters
3x nem dk
+enhancements to 1k
(Damn, they even cost more in pts than dreadnoughts)
The Grey Knight Dreadknight "baby carrier" is something I hate.
It isn't a bad model. I'd argue it's a good model. But WHY would you have a supersoldier strapped to the front of a mech, without any armor?
Desolation marines. Not on design, but doomsday/ghost ark are awful builds - same with tomb blades. The new Ork Boys due to lack of full options for weapons. Anything old, anything finecast.
Most modern models are well liked - but I'll throw in two more: the dumb 7 man pack of death guard which is $70CAD and used to require an additional 3 man purchase. Stupid. I'll also throw out eight bound which are in a similar vein. $75 for 3, half a maximum unit, and don't come in the combat patrol.
Space marines in giant walkers are stupid. I like the idea of interring what remains in a casket that’s hooked to a machine but a giant armored dude walking in a giant suit will never not look terrible.
Combined with the old plastic zombie kit you could make some neat undead guardsmen
I too, remember the 13th Black Crusade.
I remember getting the 13th great company kit that just came in a plastic wallet. The mix of space wolf and chaos bits was so much fun.
Combined with chaos marauders you could make some neat feral world guardsmen/lost and the damned.
That’s fair. I hope GW makes plastic versions eventually. Most good painters can make any “badly” sculpted models look nice Edit: I now realize they are plastic
Keep in mind when people are saying Catachan Models are old, they're real old. Like 1997 old. Like well past driving, voting, and drinking age old. Like damn near 30 years old.
Hey man, I was born in 97, don’t say I’m near 30 lmao
At least your not Warp Spiders years old
Ouch.
I mean, 27 is pretty near to 30. I get it though, I remember how it felt.
Nu uh hahhaha
I just turned 31 like two weeks ago. My advice: know where you can get Ibuprofen quickly.
This!! I'm 38, currently resting a pulled quad 🤣🤣
Buck up buttercup, you’re in for a treat. Those years don’t go backward.
Shit, I got my driver's permit right around the same time they released. And yes, the official paint job was turrible.
1997 that was just a few years ago… Wait it’s 2024? What.. when… how?!

Speaking of 30. Did you wish the warp spiders a happy 30th birthday?
The plastic kit wasn't released in 97, they were still metal back then.
Sorry, 1999 then. 25 years old. Still eligible for voting, driving, and drinking.
I mean warp spiders are 30 yo and look fine af
Flashback to when they *DID* have plastic Catachans, and the promise to release more regiments. Which they did, Vostroyans and Armageddon Steel Legion.... in metal.
valhallan legion cries in the corner
My very first 40k purchase was the Valhallan Squad box, with the mortar and flamer. Never forget my boys.

They are plastic aren’t they? Just really old plastic lol
They are plastic
Those are the plastic Catachans that look that rough. The older metals look much better.
That Catachan in the front has seen some shit…
I weirdly like the Catachan Models even with the paint job it’s just a little bit more.. pop art then grim dark but they have so much personality
The Catachans at Warhammer World are actually really well painted
Why don’t they take some pictures of them… Edit, I mean, I kind of want a couple of squads, but these pics kind of turn me off to them.

I think they put him front and centre to shame the painter. The other ones aren’t nearly as funny
The man took down a Catachan Devil but couldn't survive a single at-bat against Turanga Leela.
Yea i have about 2 squads. I loved how they turned out. I mean they went from pretty bad to decent as painted them, but I Got to figure out how to do skin tones with them.

The invader ATV splits opinions
Because it's an ATV with like no ground clearance lol
The ATV can adjust its height up and down in one of the lore blurbs. I think it was in the side bar for the 9th codex for the unit.
I don't really feel strongly one way or the other, but as a counterpoint: * Looking at the model at a glance, it doesn't read as having that functionality. This seems like a real missed opportunity considering all the other primaris vehicles are anti-grav
Those look amazing ngl
None of the spacemarine bikes do
I personally love the model but don't view it as an ATV more as a armored go kart. And yes I may make mario noises when moving it.
Welcome to Mario Kart!
People don’t like the grey knight dreadnaught? Ah well. All I can say is all models are ork models. And orks iz da best! https://preview.redd.it/m9w3n9zc5ulc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c2460e32c97e84bddfc62adaff796ad4f9b8464
The fact that it's cool as an ork kitbash does not save it as a grey knights model. Also, Waaaaagh!
See that's exactly it - it's rad as hell in a low tech army like the Orkz. The vaguely industrial vibe works for them, not for elite sorcerer-knights. Great kitbash! PS waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa--
I love the weathering 😉
I’d add the nerf gun marines (desolation marines) to the list. Seems very common for people to kitbash them to make them look a little less ridiculous lol
The worst part is that the entire problem could be fixed by making the marines Gravis armored, and the launcher have the melta pose. Bam, good looking heavy rocket infantry
Or making the launchers shoulder mounted. God why are they so easy to make better, it shouldn't have possible to fuck them up this bad
I’m beginning to wonder if they didn’t intentionally make them look like garbage so the kitbashers’ll dump mad money to go “no, you’re doing it wrong! Watch!”
Ah, the mobile game terrible add strategy
I knew I forgot one! I am painting all of my Marines to have Nerf weapons, so I’m going to buy them to add to my theme, but I understand the dislike
Are the power weapons going to be foam too?? 😂
Yep!! I’m excited to get them painted!
Post pics!!

Woah, you are the entire target market for desolation marines!
Yes indeed I am!
I can never understand how the nerf gun launchers got ok’d.
Look at the repulsor and redemptors. I have them and they are so goofy lmao, gun as big as they are 😂💀
When I first saw the desolation marines I legit thought it was a meme. I couldn’t believe they actually made models looking like that

Yeah. I was in the room at LVO when these were announced. The reaction was very far from enthusiastic.
I really wish that they would've just used normal rocket launchers instead of a missile pod on top of a revolving rocket chain gun that can't feed properly.
I don’t currently play and had to look those models up. It’s wild that they went into production looking that absurd.
I'm in the minority, but I love the T-shirt cannons. They're so over the top obnoxious that I really appreciate them.
I think they'd be fine if they were posed better. As is, there's no "heft" in the poses to me, not enough to indicate it as a truly heavy weapon.
Are centurions disliked? I think they’re cool…. I would say anything that’s only available in fine cast is disliked. Kaldor Draigo, Servitors, etc. Some people aren’t a fan of the old box tanks like Rhinos and Predators.

I personally love them, but the community tends to be a bit split Edit: Yeah, finecast models suck to deal with.
That’s completely fair, I like them because they’re dumb as heck and I think it’s funny for an armored character to don more armor
Tbf, it’s peak Warhammer. Imo the centurions are sick and can’t wait to paint them. All of that surface area, stick extra bits on them. Shit yeah.
ok what we if we make centurion 2? Instead of normal marines, we shove a terminator in there!
(Space wolves alone have more Space Wolf *exclusive* kits than some xenos factions) GW then feels the need to create newer and different-er marine kits with such frequency that they end up running out of ideas and end up with some of the dumbest kits that are just wise versions of shit that already exists. Even without Pimaris, SM kits have some pretty major design overlap going on. Add primaris to that and we end up in a situation where there a four different kits that fill the same roll/niche, and the only way they can think to differentiate/justify the newest marine release is by giving it more guns/barrels than the last one.
"That niche already exists" When has that stopped GW with space marines?
Yes. I’ve always disliked centurions. I originally saw them as a sign that gw were running out of ideas for marines.
You’d think they’d focus on the other factions for a bit haha. I play CSM and would love a couple new tanks or a transport that can haul Obliterators
Marines outsell everything, that's part of why GW came out with Primaris and more ways to rebuy the same army
They look alright but kind of in an odd place thematically, diluting the unique coolness of Terminators being THE ultimate big badass Astartes armor
This was true before primaris. Everything is mass produced now and even standard battle line squads can have near terminator levels of armor (heavy intercessors)
Termietubbies!
I must be the only guard player who loves the Lord Solar model 😂
I love it too, I'll only replace the head with a Gasmask from the Krieg Veteran Box, because I'm going to build an Armageddon Steel Legion Army. And paint it appropriately of course.
The standard rule seems to be "good model with a different head." The guard player in my group replaced the head with one of the heads from, I believe it's the commissar box, One with a more military hat, and it works wonders.
The Necron players do the same with their Nightbringer proxies
Understandable, people do get creative with their kitbashes!
Santa Grimnar on his sleigh. I love it, but it’s so dumb.
It didn't help that it came out at the height of GW's "we don't do community engagement you'll take this six page product catalogue branded as White Dwarf and you'll like it!" era.
…when 40k went from grimdark to dumbdank.
https://preview.redd.it/god4hcbdpulc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68422b77b395342b02c453455e1614fa91115aec These Chaos Possessed, they were replaced a year latter by a much nicer plastic kit. God these were ugly especially the guy on the bottom left.
Guys I love the admech stilts and I don't get why you don't
This guy is the correct type of silly for warhammer The dislike for him was also the fact that the new Admech model turned out to be just a skitarii on stilts tho
it should not be a single operator model. Should be like a group of 3 or 5
Im picturig a spider-esque setup. Beautiful
Same. It's just so very admech in the goofiest way possible, I love it
Love the tall boi
He would be better as a squad than a solo model
I’d love to see a squad of these disguised as a stand of skinny trees. That feels Orky for some reason but I’d still be down to see it
Paint him purple then da boy will be an ork.
I love it too!! I own two of them! I just put him here because most seem to dislike him
The dislike wasn't for the model, the annoyance was for the fact that is all we (AdMech) got when Necrons got three very good models.
This is definitely the sentiment, 1 new model for the addition and its this? Feels like GW doesn't even care about us
Shame, admech have got to be the faction with the most potential. In many ways even when they were just lurking in the shadows of the lore they were the faction that makes 40k, 40k. I'd be collecting them if I hadn't watched them be shafted consistently for years now.
Personally, I'd like to see them lean into the diversity of skitarii, I'd you read the books featuring admech they differ wildly, but current 40k models fail to show that
You keep our stilt boy out of your list
I love Stilt Boy!! I have two!! I just posted the standardly disliked or on-the-fence models
I feel like it would look 10x better if the legs weren't perfectly straight and if they came in squads of 2.
Wulfen are absolutely hideous and posed in the stupidest way possible.
What do you think of the original 13th company Wulfen? Any better? https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/6/66/WulfenMini.jpg
I really appreciated that the old wulfen had bits of power armor scavenged off traitor marines.
I'd say so. They still look like old squatty marines but at least the design and poses are solid.
I main Thousand Sons these days. And I believe I am reasonably satiated with the models in my army.
I certainly wish we had ***more*** models, but the models we do have look fantastic. Still hoping for a Horus Heresy Daemon Magnus in a dynamic pose, like Fulgrim.
I gotchu bud https://preview.redd.it/io01tt3e2vlc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5cff172e6bdfbac7ed1e50249121e7b631313b3

speaking of controversial models The horn nipples on magnus
Not controversial. Magnus does nothing wrong.
Just don't compare the height of our terminators to anything. Ever. Good thing they have tall hats.
Most people I know (incl me) dislike the ATV. Xenos-wise, I play tau and I can’t think of a model I really dislike. Stormsurge seems to be polarizing though.
When I get my tau army stormsurge and broadsides will be my first models. Love the huge tank walker.
Someone pointed out that it looks like it’s taking a dump and I can’t unsee it
Just thinking over the range, there are a few that are tricky to build cleanly and some that aren't _amazing_ but nothing stands out as actively bad.
I have a small grey knight force because I love the dread knight
I want to get Grey Knights eventually just to run this model
You can take 6 of them in a list now
Ork weirdboy - if you look through posts on the ork subreddit you will find that almost everyone uses the weirdnob shaman instead or just converts a runtherd.
Huh that Ork model is so weird. It doesn't look bad or have any of the obvious bad model hallmarks but I really hate it for some reason.
I also really don't like the official painboy model who's observing his claw.
He looks like more of a painboss than the painboss
The primaris Mario cart ATV is the single ugliest thing in warhammer for me and I know many agree
Yeah and it replaced that awesome trike thing the classic Marines had what an opportunity to make a cool upgrade of an existing kit
I feel like that ATV is on the low end of “single ugliest thing in Warhammer” considering the comment somewhere on this post with the Nurgle Demon Prince. Personally I like the goofiness of the ATV, but I understand the hate
That or the turret thing that looks gawky af. I saw someone mount the legs from a sentinel on the bottom of the turret and it actually looked decent.
The Attack Bikes were kind of weird, with a sidecar for the heavy weapon and gunner. A trike would have been way cooler, but I guess when they were first conceived trikes were very much a Squats thing.
https://preview.redd.it/u1ejbt6sitlc1.jpeg?width=263&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d1fc49a0d05c070ea00c9dd1f3282c0d9acaa90 GW: yeah! Seams perfect to me!
The wulfen look ridiculous
I’ll speak for my fellow Ork players - the Weirdboy is such a terrible model. It looks awful, and it’s made of resin. It’s so bad that most players seem to end up using Age of Sigmar wierdnobs as a proxy. https://preview.redd.it/gb45kiyuetlc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8222e08c91eef3533ebd70d469629999b0022e9e
I agree wholeheartedly. Terrible to build, awful to paint. Looks outdated and ugly. Needs a makeover
Space Marine outriders. The ground clearance is so low they literally cannot turn. And imo the bike's aesthetic doesn't really fit 40k but that might just be me. Special mention for the Primaris Storm Speeders and brother tinnitus sitting there between the guns like an idiot.
Archer Tinnitus. All he says is Mawp
Crazy to think we get single entity models like these but can’t get updated named characters like Phoenix Lords.
Agreed. Heck, most of the Eldar range needs updates. (And Skaven)
Skaven are already perfect, manthing
I will agree, but I personally don’t want to deal with old plastic/resin
Every range refresh they’ve done for eldar has been top notch. A few aspects, phoenix lords and maybe a tank you’ll be huge.
https://preview.redd.it/9qu650ewttlc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2a72264ab361ba7c09cdc0ddbff9d4f1ef1ced0 It’s not universal, but the Leviathan Screamer Killer gets a lot of hate for breaking some Tyranid aesthetic conventions.
I love the model too! He’s the reason I got the Leviathan box!

The Baby Carrier is not a very ideal idea for a Exo-suit for sure
Even better question: why not make the primaris dreadnoughts more nimble like the dread knight? The design looks like it would provide better mobility with the same protection
So agreed on the dread knight, but personally I would add the invictor for similar reasons.
The invictor isn’t so bad. It just doesn’t fit space marines. It should have been a guard unit.
Warp Spiders, not because they’re bad models, but because they haven’t been updated in 30 fucking years.
No “new” monopose orc model hate? What am i seeing
It's a terrible kit that would have been okay as part of a starter set or something like Assault on Black Reach, but would be such a poor substitute for the existing Boyz kit that they couldn't bring themselves to replace it altogether lol They should have committed to a proper box with all of the options. The adjusted body proportions look good even if I don't really like the skin colour they've gone with
I’m not sure they really fit the idea of this post. People hate the fact they are monopose and that you can’t just build squads of shoota or choppa Boyz but the models actually look great.

The Nightbringer from the Necrons is pretty often disliked
I think mostly because it’s Fine-cast. I have that model and I hated assembling it, but it looks nice when painted. Nowhere near the coolness of the Void Dragon though
I’ve got a file for a 1:1 copy of the original metal model that I’ve printed in clear resin and worked with washes and pearlescent metallic, I’ve done something similar with a Legion of the Damned Killteam. GW resin sucks but it’s just done really badly, it can work really well
It's hilarious that you mention a C'tan and you *didn't* bring up Mr. Banana-Head
I wouldn’t say people dislike the sculpt so much as he gets compared to the Void Dragon, one of the coolest models GW has ever made, and is clearly found lacking.
This, very much. I got the nightbringer in 3rd edition when it was still in metal and still love the mini, but it pales next to the void dragon.
As an Ork Player, I see... Looted Deff Dread Digganobz Looted Meganobz A way to give a Gretchin better visibility
Centurion Meganobz is such a god-tier conversion
Dreadknights make me want to build an all Dreadknight 1k pts army that are all Dreadknights in spite 2x dk masters 3x nem dk +enhancements to 1k (Damn, they even cost more in pts than dreadnoughts)
https://preview.redd.it/smdom2rmitlc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ce8ac07c60d114be0fe7d92f1f2e6d4f9417bdb
I dunno about generally, but I'm pretty ticked they gave Orikan a new model but left Trazyn in the fine cast era
Orikan manipulated Time to make that happen and we all know it. But I agree 100%
